Unfortunatly this cache now doesnt live up to its name due to the big shake.. So because the surounding area is still a little unstable I will archive it. Goodby Rock Solid. Cheers Bo
I am planning on replacing this cache but cant until the area is safe to go back into, This area is still currently closed.. Cheers Bo
Checked on the cache today. The cache had gone but after a good scout around I found the broken cache and all the bits and pieces further down the hill so I will have to temporarily disable this one until the area is safe and stable again. Cheers Bo
Cool wind but quite sheltered up here. Great spot to leave Puupää&Justiina geocoin.
So it is right up there! Neat spot. Took a while to find - lots of rocks to look under. Thanks.
A cow and her calf were watching us very carefully so we gave them a wide berth and hoped for the best. TFTC
(278) Ok so I skipped a few I thought they were close by.. Wow once you see where they are, start to think a better approach might be in order.. So I also thought this one would be closer.. I went up a little early so coming down was tricky to say the least.. I think a Van might have pulled over to see what was unfolding.. Well I managed to get the feet back on the ground.. and went another few hundred metres to find the cache.. Lets just say the trip back to the car was SO much quicker and easier.. Still a awesome spot.. TFTC, SL.
I couldn't get this one the other day as there wasn't a carpark available nearby. Today it was a brilliant warm sunny 20deg day and my mission was back on. Nice view from up here. TFTC.
Tough one today. Looked and looked and searched and searched. Lovely area and views today. TFTC
#1236 (4/6 on a 30 degree nor west day on which I did some non-Troodle friendly caches while she was at the Ellerslie Flower Show). Headed up here from Volcano Rim. Enjoyed the scarmbling and found the cache without too much trouble. Headed to Castle Rock to pick up the track that joins up with the Bridle Path, to get back to the car near gondola base station. TFTC.
Well that was a real climb! Morning rain left all the grass and rocks slippery so that added a new dimension to the challenge. TFTC.
Thanks Bo and Bronnie for a challenging find. Took nearly 10 minutes of hunting around to find this one on one of my favourite rocky outcrops that I have circumnavigated many times during wonderful runs on the Port Hills. Thanks for a great cache.
Great climb!! Loved clambering around the rocks and got a great view of the sun setting. Very cold wind up here though. Lovely spot, TFTC. TNLN.
Crisp clear cold day. Path still iced over when we arrived at midday! Beautiful views to the snow covered alps. Quite a tricky find but well worth the effort. TFTC TNLN
Picked up while walking the crater rim walkway from Godley Head. Hard to retrieve as muggles kept arriving from all directions. Will move coin on

Having parked at Castle Rock we enjoyed the short walk to th cache. The dead branches are more like small sticks and yes you do have to climb up the rocks to get to it. +geocoin
Actually HelloMrs found it. I was struggling by this time and the heat was getting to me. Those glasses of wine from the night before were catching up on me. I don't think this cache was what my surgeon had in mind when he said I was allowed to do plenty of walking.
A stiff climb for this old girl. Amazing what you will do when a cache is in your sights. The last bit was really difficult but determining it must be up there having exhausted those places low down there was nothing for it but to climb. Thankfully rewarded. The dry grass was getting very dry and slippery returning to the car which seemed a great deal further away than expected. Some rock climbing muggles were intrigued with our beeping Gps as we passed them a few metres before the cache site. TNLN TFTC
Another challenging cache location. I left the kids at the bottom and found the cache as there is not too much room for 3 people up there. Once found, I dragged them up and let them get the cache.
Forth cache for the day, took glass egg, placed plastic mouse.

Easy find after reading the logs and choosing the best route up. Young Claw was with us but his legs ceased to function half way up so he can't log this one! Loved the feeling of being on top of the world. TFTC, swapped a glass egg for a broach with my initial on it!
Don't think I did too bad for a girl that does not like heights. Great views.
Well that was a bit more of a scramble than most. Tried twice before but never quite followed what the gps actually indicated. TFTH... TNLN
A fun wee clamber up there after an afternoon of following MTB tracks most places, and with some great views of the otherside of the Port Hills. Took a while to find, the arrow kept pointing away from the cache but got it in the end. TNLN Thanks.
Awesome area! It took us a very long time to find as we were looking in the wrong area initially before moving to the correct spot - then found very easily! TNLN - TFTC!
A beautiful afternoon outing. No wind and very sunny which is such a change after the last week of rain. Made a progressive search up the hill until the cache was in hand. TNLN
Kids found it! I'm too old to shin up the rocks! 11,9 and 6 year old got there before me. Thanks for the cache. Took and left! (Very windy!)
I'd been meaning to walk up to this one for a while - but... well... since I was driving past...
Parked at Castle Rock, and walked down. Managed to take the long way round, and like most, seeked it low, before seeking high. Very scenic. TNLN, Thanks.

Managed to find this after an afternoons climbing. It took a bit of searching.
A solid placement. Not however, where Bobo and I began our search... found it though, thanks.
Went for a walk today and checked the cache after all the rain, Yip still nice and dry,, I have picked up coin# CR5MXK and will place it into another cache to keep it moving along, Cheers Bo
A great evening for a run from Sugar Loaf sometimes with a following wind. A clear evening for a fantastic panorama of Canterbury while we got our breath back. Left a very colourful dolls hairgrip thing and liberated the spider. Shame I left it on a nearby rock!!
Well, I hope that rock is solid in it's placement! Very windy up here today but I was glad the cache was in a sheltered spot. + one of Geo_Leprechaun's Pot of Gold geocoins. TN. T4TC.
A brisk climb in a howling Southerly wind and a reasonably quick find. Pleased to knock it off the list, tftc.

Took a little hunting to find the cache - but it wasn't going to hide for long! Lovely view from here. Cheers Gav [1704]
Great on a very windy day among the rocks. Fantastic to finish 2007 like this. Thanks. Although spent too long at the wrong altitude!
1852. We visited this cache in the late afternoon and enjoyed the time up here. Time on these hills is always refreshing and on a pleasant day like this one you are rewarded with great views.
We have left two beautiful geocoins - Spirit of the Holidays and a Swedish Geocoin.
Thanks
Iris & Rodney

I had a go at this last night, but the thing eluded me. I went home and had a look at the clue then biked all the way up from home late this afternoon and had another look. I must have just about touched last night I know I felt under that rock. I was going to drop in a real cool TB, but there was a muggle climbing just the other side of where I was so I changed my mind
Cheers and thanks for a great cache

Yes, aproaching from the East is best. It's a longer and more exposed scramble from the West and you'll need to use a rope if you approach from the South The cache wasn't too hard too find.

I have moved the Rock Solid cache over the road a little as it probably was not on public land, but I didnt relise this, as I quiet often walk up this track that follows the pipe line ,and it is such a nice walk,, so sorry about that folks,,Happy caching.
Well, I did say I'd wait until the weekend. So it was 3:30pm Saturday afternoon when I reached the cache (in its new location). It's a great spot, although some may find it a bit of a scramble to get there - best to approach from the east. And watch any kids near the edge. Wonderful views as advised. -TB Chevy car +steel keyring. Thanks and cheers from Grandalf(987)

I might just put this cache on hold , and I will check out the access over the weekend, cheers
I know where it is, but I'm not running for it until the weekend - someone elses turn.
Went up there via the Summit road tonight, it has a very "not public" look to it so I didnt cross the gate. Do you have any updates on this map? http://www.ccc.govt.nz/Parks/NaturalAreas/port_hills_map.asp I hope so, it would be great if this area is open to the public.
