Our first day travelling to Dunedin for the Mega. Stopped here with a howling wind to explore and see the earth cache. Answers submitted.! Loved this place! Fave point from me
A warm but gloomy morning at the rock today - at least the wind is calm! Scrambled over and around the rock, answers sent, cheers.
Four Swedish ladies driving around in NZ looking for caches. This was real nice and intresting. Tigertassen send answer for all four of us. Thank you.
We are four ladies from Sweden on visit in New Zealand. We log as TULP (tigertassen, ursus67, lnganfans and pidjas). Today we took a walking tour in the city of Christchurch. We walked quite some time and the weather was a bit cool so we stayed for a warm coffee. A big thank you to CO for the cache.
We are four ladies from Sweden who are visiting Australia and New Zeeland We are logged as TULP This was one of the caches we found Thanks from Sweden
Hlsningar frn Sverige, sdra Lappland Then it was time for a little adventure. The trip goes to Sydney in Australia and then on to Christchurch and Dunedin in New Zealand .On the trip are, Tigertassen, myself, ursus67, Lnganfans and Pidjas go, which means that we log under the common name "Tulp". The idea is that before we go home we should have visited a Megaevent, Geo Toroa. Greetings from Sweden, southern Lapland
Thanks! We enjoyed doing this along with the adventure lab. It was a beautiful day at the beach today.
We came back to Christchuch before to leave NZ for good. We qtill discover new places as Cave Rock in Sumner. Obviously, I did the earthcache there, we crossed the rock by the cave and we climbed at the top. The view is great.
On our twenty-secound day in New Zealand we stay in Christchurch. This beautiful cache was on our way.TFTCHennesAt the end comes the poem of the day.New ZealandBy James K. Found this while visiting the beach here today and watching the surfers do their thing with the continuous surf that never seems to stop. Thank you very much for maintaining this Cash. It was a pleasure to walk through the cave during low tide and climb up on top. Found this with glory to glory to Georgia and we are visiting from Virginia USA. Adding favorite point.
I was visiting Sumner with my sister to get some fish and chips on monday.we decided to eat them whilst sitting next to the beach. So we sat near to the Cave rock to get the information needed.it is a stunning place and I loved every minute there.thanks for placing this cache here so I could see this great beach.
What an amazing rock and cave on the middle of the beach. Thanks for the cache./herrFamaxe from Sweden
Buzzing with activity today, so cool to be able to scale the rock for the view. Thanks for placing here.
Getting this cache was fun. I was on a picnic with muggles and we climbed the rock on a beautiful day. There was a wonderful view of the beach and some lifeguards up there with us. I'm very happy to have another Earth Cache to add to my collection.
I'm visiting New Zealand for a tour around the country . I have already visited many places on the North Island and on the South Island. Now I'm staying in Christchurch for some days. While enjoying the sightseeing I also visit some caches. This is one of them. Thank you for showing me the place and thank you for the cache . Greetings from Switzerland .
26-days-holiday to Singapore, New Zealand & AustraliaDay 11: ChristchurchDue to the earth slip between Haast and Queenstown, we headed to Christchurch the previous day which in return led to a full additional day there. In the morning, we had a small city tour by bus & a spot-check to the Botanical Garden. In the afternoon, I did a nice long geocaching tour round town on my own. Here at Cave Rock we had some time during our bus tour which was used of course to explore the rock and its surroundings. The view from atop was great. Thanks for guiding me here and the additional gained piece of knowledge.
Great place. Stopped off for a pizza before finishing this one and the AL.
Love the story behind this and enjoyed exploring the rock a couple days ago. Not too busy around 2 in the avo. TFTC
Awesome spot here. Arrived at low tide and went for a stroll through the cave just as it was getting dark. I love learning new things. Thus was an amazing experience
What a nice place, it really deserves an earthcache.

Went out this evening for a wee stroll and to visit Cave Rock for this Earthcache as it is a great addition towards the March Spelling Challenge, giving me a fourth type.
We saw a gorgeous ginger and white tabby cat coming down from up on the rock- obviously a local as he looked quite at home and some children arrived as we were leaving looking for him as they had met him there on a previous visit
I would rather have posted a photo of the cat instead of myself but the pic I took of him doesn't show Cave Rock.
Thanks for placing this cache

Visited midweek, while completing the nearby Adventure Lab. A beautiful summers day, responses sent to CO; TFTC
We visited this impressive Earthcache on a fine afternoon and enjoyed collecting the required information. We have submitted our answers as specified on the cache page.

Nice day to be at the beach! Couple more caches till 400!
Flew down from palmy for Christmas and swapped houses with a friend. Don’t have many caches left to find at home base so We’ll try to clean up some of the caches here and hopefully pass 400 finds!
I wrote in the log and concealed the cache carefully back as found, TFTCSL, Thanks TheWonderStuff for this EarthCache cache!

Last day of holiday so kiiling time by sightseeing places I have not yet been. Beautiful day to amble around. Glad I was not asked to climb the rock.
Lovely day for it. A few drops of rain never hurt anyone...
Very nice earthcache, thank you

Neat rock formation I never knew was here after driving past a few times. Tftc
Interesting cache not sure about the measurements using meters but gave them my best shot.
Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I now live full-time in our caravan & travel the country visiting places we want to visit … we are now parked up in Auckland but had to ‘pop’ down to Christchurch for a friends birthday party … decided to check out this Earthcache while here … took the obligatory photos … answers have been sent to Cache Owner & we are logging this in anticipation of receiving the ‘all clear’ … pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally … TFTC ... Found with angelic_kiwi today who sent in the answers. Photo attached. Great place to explore. tftc
Had a nice day at Sumner today, was interesting learning more about the rock. Thanks
Lovely day to come for a walk here. Brings back lots of happy memories as used to come here and eat an ice cream up on top of rock when courting. Always a great place to visit. Thanks for this great Earthcache TheWonderStuff.
We were just exploring today and came across Sumner and this earthcache. Stopped for a while and completed the tasks and then went for a walk through the cave and then along the beach. This is the best sea cave I have ever been in, so thank you for bringing us here. TFTEC
Been here many times as a child, today enjoying as I sip an iced mocha. Answers will be emailed tonight. TFTC.
After taking in the sights of Lyttelton and the gondola, we headed over to Sumner, with the thought we might have a swim. Looked a little breezy so took a stroll up the rock and gathered the required information before saving it on cgeo as a personal note and then deleting which seems to be quite standard for this holiday. Thanks
Number 10479 for me. Catching up on some logs from a recent trip around the South Island with GSEL. Called by here on a day of collecting Adventure labs, solved puzzles and GeoTour caches, plus a range of other interesting caches, of which this was one.
A couple of photos attached, and the requested info sent to the CO.
Many thanks for taking the time to set up this Earthcache and teach me something about the area I would not have known about otherwise.

Cave Rock is an unique park of Christchurch & Sumner history. Enjoyed learning about the tram line that ran out there & why the wall was built tftc
I was looking at the challenge GC2FC8R, and saw that I was actually really close to finishing it this month... how convenient. I then looked around and saw that this was suitable to help complete it.
I had been here before for one stage of the nearby AdLab, on top of the rock, but I clearly didn't go exploring as I had no idea the cave went through. Anyway, awesome day to come back here, quite a few others enjoying the sunshine too. Thanks TWS! #2951

As the weather was nice, we decided to come down here for a few caches and games on the beach, we even took a towel, in case we would put feet in the water. It was much windier than at home, and we just walked around, going to the Adventure lab locations and finding a few caches along the way. We started this one a long time ago, but never completed it, today was a great day to explore the cave. Thanks for providing information about its story, both geological and mythological!
Thanks for an interesting earthcache. Enjoyed our visit here today as we travel around the coast here on our trip to Akaroa. Answers sent
What a spectacular place this was to visit, I could have spent a lot more time here but I was under a bit of time pressure to get back to town. I was here several months ago for my graduation and went on a day trip out to Lyttleton and back to the city via Summer, I really liked this little suburb especially driving over the bridge a little further up the coast - so distracting! I was unsure what I would find when I arrived here but I was impressed by the size of it and being able to walk through it. The tide was coming in so I wasn't able to explore much out the front of it but went through it. I realised later that I could have also gone on top of it.
I wrote down the answers and worked out a real 'scientific' way of measuring the height and then lost my notebook with the answers for several months. Finding it recently, I messaged the CO with the answers and then forgot to log it. Photo attached, thanks for bringing me here.

My plan was to go to Blenheim to do some cache maintenance and Taybeedragon offered the use of her car, and since it's queen's birthday weekend, a trip to Chch as well. The plan was mainly lab caches, but the acciddental discovery of a TMGT cache shifted the focus of the whole trip.
Having cached out the labs and geotour caches in Lyttleton, we drove around the coat to pick up the labs here. Stopped to do the earthcache, but it was at night, so hopefully the answers are okay. Possibly it was too dark to see and we did not interpret things correrctly. Climbing up the rock at night was interersting (to get the lab cache up there, and again to get the height of the rock). Coming back down again was decidedly dodgy. Visibility close to zip as it's rainy and couldy and not starry and moony. Anyway this is a fascenating cave, and I think we have only scratched its earthcache potential. It gets a favourite from me - hopefully my in-the-dark answers are good enough!

Stopped off here on our way from Lyttleton to Zara. Its getting dark so visibility was restricted. Did get to the top before it got too dark. What a great place to visit and we got here at low tide so got to walk through and around. Cheers. I love earth caches and what they teach me. Fav from me.
The Seagnoid is down for some cache maintenance but lots of xtra time to wander. I need some caches for my technology Souvineer, with Christchurch our agreed destination for a couple of days. Arrived late Friday night with Toby and Zara. So lets go exploring!

Found a long time ago. I am publishing log as CO hasn't got back to me yet. Thanks for a nice find.
A blustery and rainy day today but a nice restaurant nearby for a warm lunch after exploring the rock
I write "WRITE NOTE" because it is a time when we can't go on a long adventure, so I travel in the memories of my visits to New Zeusemad. Of this adventure in New Zealand, I only stretch Travel Bug. Writing "FOUND IT" is probably not right anymore, it wasn't today, but I was here before. And unfortunately I won't get here again.

Down from Northland for a one week trip to Christchurch to pick up some solved puzzles, challenges, unusual cache types, Jasmer grid fillers, as well as a few others in passing.
Time for a few around the Sumner area this morning. An interesting rock here and good views from the top, of the beach sand artist at work. Answers sent to CO. TFTC

It is a long time since we have been here so it was nice to be able to do this earthcache. The answers were all sent to the CO. A lovely day for a spot of geocaching.
I'm from Whangarei and I'm on holiday in the South Island for 2 weeks with my mum and two of my kids. We flew to Queenstown, visited Milford Sound, Te Anau, Wanaka and Mt Cook. We then travelled up to Fox Glacier and headed up to Greymouth. Yesterday we visited Puakaiki and took the Tranzalpine train to Christchurch. We're spending a day here then catching the scenic train to Picton and going across on the Interisland ferry. Then we'll have a day in Wellington visiting Te Papa before flying home.
I'm collecting as many caches this holiday as the family can bear so the focus is on special types - earthcaches, labs, letterboxes, virtuals, solved puzzles with the odd multi and some trads thrown in.
We came out to Sumner today to see where my Mum had her first few years of life. We had delicious French toast at the cafe by the playground then wandered along here for a look. A great cave indeed. We then went into town and saw the Cardboard Cathedral, the Firefighters memorial, the real Cathedral, the Town Hall and some damaged building remains. Thanks for your earthcache in this nice area

**Found on our February - March tour around the South Island. Logging back home in Auckland in Lockdown isolation**
We started and ended the day at the Woolston Club, an ideal base for caching around Sumner, Lyttleton and Ferrymead. We came as far as Sumner Beach this morning especially to visit Cave Rock. We had a much closer look than on previous visits to the area. Thanks for another interesting earthcache.

Our last day in NZ and we decided to take the bus to Sumner, which we got recommended. It was a nice but very windy day and we hang around and watched the surfers, kiters, all the people with their dogs and the seagulls. We climbed the „cave rock“ and tried to estimate the size, all the answers have been sent.
Thanks to the owner for showing us the nice spot, tomorrow we have to go back to the german winter!

It was our second day in Christchurch and we decided to spend some time at the beach in Sumner, which is where we planned to stay in first place before our plans had to be changed. It flet somewhat strange to go barefeet on the beach in shorts and without shoes only 3 days after leaving Europe in winter But we liked it and enjoyed it very much!
And of course we explored the cave rock on the beach as well. We hope we got all the answers right. Our answers were sent to the owner via Message Center.
Thank you for the Earthcache - it was our first EC in NZ.

Found this cache today while walking on the beach around Sumner. Thanks for the information in the description and the cache.
We explored the cave after lunch nearby. Surprising how many people were there on a week day.
During our vacation in New Zealand we did some geocaching. We saw a lots of amazing places and say thank you to everyone who shared his geocache with us.

Earthcache weekend? Cloudy and warm? Perfect for getting out!
No earthcache nearby so I went up to sunmer to get this one. Surprisingly I've passing by the beach so many time but haven't get down to have a look.
I arrived at a low tide so I got to walk thru the cave from one side to another, how amazing!

I'm in Christchurch with my wife who is undergoing surgery in Christchurch Hospital and what better way to take my mind on what's happening to her than to go geocaching. On Sunday I ended up doing 100 caches in a day with the help of the Thompsons Track and a few others. So the next few days the numbers are somewhat less. However this weekend is earthcache weekend and GCHQ are offering a souvenir. Mrs Kiwimykl (aka NZDi is on the mend and is allowed out of the ward today so I have to be present to escort her. That meant a trip out to Sumner to get this cache. I got/guessed the information and sent it to the CO, took the requisite photo and raced back to the hospital.

It is a pretty horrible weekend with the weather but that does not stop me from grabbing a smiley. My brother is down for the weekend so had the occasion to explore a part of town I had never been to before.
As with every earthcache I learn a little about the world we live in. this time I learnt about how this type of earth feature is created and a little of the history surrounding it.

Found with Trifolia Argentea on an afternoon trip to the beach. In times gone by (when i lived in Christchurch), this rock was the where my friends and I usually set up when we went to Sumner beach. Nice to see it again! TFTC.

Daughter Beethoven bagatelle and flat friends and I spent time at rock Christmas night. After playing at Margaret mayhe park they decided to spend a prayerful quiet time at the rock. It was an enjoyable time for reflection. So at the time had a quick look around. Hopefully got measurements etc right in my message to CO.
**This was 1 of 10 caches that was found by me on the 2nd of 19 days in New Zealand.**
**Which also was the 55th of 75 days that my travels thru southeast Asia and Oceania would last.**
I arrived here during thew low tide. So it was easy to walk around the rock observing and measuring.
*During 19 days I traveled from Christchurch to Auckland in an SUV, that i also slept in during most of the nights. 5.956 km of driving did it take to visit the 351 caches that I have marked as found in c:geo.*
*Earthcaches was my main focus during the stay. And I manage to visit 106 of them. So New Zealand is right now the only country where earthcaches are my most found cache type .*
Answers to earthcaches and virtuals did I send in via Message Center close after the visit, or when this log is written in March 2019.

I almost forgot about the International Earthcache Weekend this year! Only remembered because saw a Facebook post where someone asked about the possible reasons they didn't seem to have gotten the souvenir after logging an EC.
Well, good that there was an easy and quite close unlogged earthcache in store for me!
Had been around here before but mostly for work so hadn't stopped and done the earthcache yet.
We took a celebratory bottle of One Pale Ale and our dog and came to estimate the Rock! I think it went down pretty good as the number I visually estimated from below for the height matched exactly the one shown by GPS once we got on top of the rock!
Cool cave too, tide was semi-out so we were able to go through it. Nice evening and nice end of the week!

I had been here once before, but I didn't realize there was an earthcache here. Since there's a souvenir for finding an earthcache this weekend, I figured it was a good time to come back. We had breakfast at the nearby restaurant and then came over to the rock to get the answers for the cache. The first two pictures are from today, but the one of me on the rock is from the last time we came (Probably at least a year ago).
Thanks for the cache!!
Thanks for the cache!!
Nice day out with the visiting Periodic Scotts. Mixed success with caching today, so it was great to find this one - no way we could miss it!
Beautiful evening to get this earth cache. Thank you for bringing us to this site and all informative information
