TwoEms wondered what treasures we might have missed in the Australian Children's Literature Collection. The Bunyip of Berkeleys Creek, Possum Magic and The Eleventh Hour are just a few Aussie picture books from our early childhood that we still have on our bookshelves todaybut how many have we forgotten and are buried in that literary trove. We know that we read many paperbacksjunior fictionas we grew up, but all the titles seem to have escaped us. We wandered towards the hide and found an impressive skeleton nearbyeverything fades, but we try to remember and hold on to it all. We dropped off, Of Course, Of Course TB, but did not find any other bugs waiting for a ride. Thank you for the cache at Riddells Creek.
Driving past o my last day in Victoria after attending the Great Victorian Cache Crawl I stopped to make the find of a cache in good condition. No travelbugs in residence. Thank you Riddell for placing and maintaining this cache.
I just couldnt come to Riddells Creek without checking out Dromkeen again. I have fond memories of visiting this place a few times when it was a museum/gallery for Australian Childrens literature and the art in the books. Thanks for providing the cache here Riddell.
Up early for the Sunbury crawl event. Left the Riddells and CybergranV to get themselves organised It was still dark - think this is the closest I have got to night caching in quite some time. Thanks for the stay - it was lovely to see you in a Riddell territory Regards kbucky??Great to see any oldie so well maintained
Quick stop as I wander the streets after dark. Cache found in good dry condition, thanks for the adventure.
Found an excellent TB motel here. Went to Dromkeen once, was great. Took nothing returned CO's pen
On the approach to Riddells Creek for the Friday night Prequel, I stopped off and located this cache. Thanks for the cache, Riddell.
Found on a Friday afternoon before attending the 2024 Cache Crawl Prequel Dinner at the Russells Creek Hotel. TFTC
Spending the day with micaparamedic but he'd already found this. A quick find, thanks although pulling off the road here was a bit thrilling.
Out and about today in an area we have not cached in before. What a lovely township! We really enjoyed discovering some clever hides, and loved the location and size of this one.Sorry to hear that the childrens literature collection was moved on. But I was todays years old when I learnt there is such a thing as the Dromkeen Medal, awarded to those who have advanced childrens literature. The things you learn through geocaching!Unfortunately no TBs staying at the moment, and we didnt have any to drop off. I hope to bring some with me next time Im in the area. Thanks Riddell for placing and keeping this one going. Cache on
This was a fun and easy find My brother found it and the rule of the hunt was that who ever found it they have to give a dare to some one else the person that he dared was my uncleThank you for a fun cache!
Was a bit blind but finally put eyes on this easy cacheAnother month for my ausmer doneThanks for the adventure
Nice easy parking off the main road. *The generic bit*We took our new geo-vehicle on an overnight trip and did some caching on the way home. Although the weather was a bit cold and miserable to start with, once the sun cam out it was a pleasant day for a drive. We found a good assortment of caches, completed a few adventure labs and learnt a thing or two along the way. Thanks to all the COs for placing and maintaining the caches.
*Found on the 9 Mar 2024 @ 12:09PM.**Cache find # 15547.* I had now said goodbye to all of my caching partners for the day but I decided to find a few more in the area before heading for home to beat the heat, this one was next on the list.I was able to park close by and then took a short stroll over to GZ where the cache was found quickly and as I has a TB with me, I then placed it in the motel for someone else to pick up and move It along.**Thanks to Riddell for keeping the game going by placing this cache.**
With the weather threatening rain again and my Christmas food stupor not having quite dissipated I decided that I didnt need to do the caches in the area which required a longer walk in the bush. So this was my next stop, a good cache and a quick find, perfect for my mood today.I lucked out with the weather for this trip. I arrived just after the last of the heavy rain and although some clouds threatened it remained dry for the rest of the day, albeit quite muggy. The same could not be said for the ground which was soaking wet with water flowing everywhere, gravel and soil washed over tracks and roads, and everything else washed clean and fresh.Dromkeen Travelbug Motel is find number 3,280 for me. A great regular traditional cache I enjoyed finding as part of a caching outing to the Riddells Creek, Gisborne and Sunbury area. Unless otherwise mentioned above, I found the coordinates to be accurate, the cache in good condition and the log dry and with plenty of room to sign. I am logging this one on Wednesday 27 Dec 2023 but I actually found it yesterday. Thanks for placing this cache for the rest of us to enjoy Riddell.Found with Geooh GO
Pulled over right on dusk to grab this one. Don't think I was spotted but if i was, people probably just thought I had to run to the outback dunny. TFTC
Found in the evening just before sunset, plenty of traffic, but hopefully no one saw me sneak to this cache.
Left 2 trackables so it's no longer an empty trackable hotel, swapped some swag, signed log and replaced.

Nice quick easy find will Will log on a blank calendar day. Someone has now come up with a bright idea to go and do the Ballarat Geo tour see how we go on how many caches on our way there️
While we never had the chance to visit the homestead due to time constraints we did stop here for a brief period to locate this cache/travel bug motel as I wanted to offload a TB that had been in our possession for a couple of weeks. Funnily enough I picked this one from a cemetery in Carlsruhe a couple of weeks ago, took it home (~200km away)then went to Waratah Bay near the Prom at a later date, back home again and eventually traveled back here where I left it today so it ended up not that far from where I picked it up!

Thanks for the cache, love a good ammo can.
Stopping by before heading home. Got Lancefield and Romsey. Picking up some finals here.

Our third find for the day after having Easter lunch at the Riddles Creek hotel. Forgot to bring the Travel bugs in our possession to drop off. We did pick up the Batmobile to pass on. TFTC
Having made plans to go caching as our usual tradition on Good Friday; Ghihash and I change our plans on Thursday night from the Mega to Riddles Creek due to bad weather and time restraints.
We took Ghihash’s car thinking we won’t need the clearance for the day. We started with the caches in Carsruhe before heading to Riddles creek.
Took nothing left nothing

Having just one day off this week I asked k9team if she wanted to go to the mega, however realising that was a 3 hour drive there and a 3 hour drive back with unfavourable weather we decided to go caching in Riddells Creek. On the way I saw I still hadn't done the caches in Carlsruhe so we spent some there before heading to Riddells Creek for lunch and an arfternoon of caching.
Seeing the travel bug hotel we were keen tee If there were any occupants inside. Just the one today and not having any travel bugs to add we left it behind.
Thanks Riddell for the cache

After picking up my kids from Treetops camp up the road I stopped here to find the cache and start a new Travel Bug off on an adventure. Good luck little Red Batmobile. TFTC
Not a big fan of TB hotels, but will visit for the smiley...
No TBs in residence today...

Spontaneity at DRomkeen - what a shame its not open at this hour! Just happen to be passing by. On a mighty mission of locating 20 geocaches in each LGA so this has entailed a circuitous detour to the NE where home base is from marvellous Melbs - via the Macedon LGA which is rather nice. TFTC and the FUN!
Found with Joolay on a drive to Ruthrrglen. Lovely history here and cool TB hotel. Dropped a tb I picked up this morning in Ballarat. Thanks for another caching adventure Riddell
Great size cache. Been a lovely drive here
Leaving Ballarat today. It’s been a lovely few days.
Thanks for getting me out and about Riddell

On our way to the Mega and staying with family we stopped to grab this cache a nice quick find and than of to the pup for lunch, thanks for placing this cache
Tftc, a nice and quick one. Alas, left later than intended, so unable to get other nearby caches before work.
Continuing on our travels towards home and the weather is getting chillier and wetter. After staying at a rather strange caravan park nearby (mainly to watch the footy last night) we are caching in a few unfamiliar towns along the way.
Thanks, we enjoyed finding your cache Riddell. Unfortunately we didn’t have any TB’s to swap.

On my way to work this morning and if there is a cache on my way, I'm going for it. I noticed this was a TB hotel so I was excited to see what was in there . Unfortunately no TBs to move on today only plush rabbits and a mouse.
Cache is in great condition and all put back ready for its next visitor.
Thank you

Thank you
Found it! There’s not much coverage but I put it back as best as I could. I signed the logbook and took a seashell, I put in a few rabbit things.
Thank you!
Thank you!
Loved visiting Dromkeen as a kid so this was a nice trip down memory lane while visiting my mum. Sad to hear it's closed now, what a loss. TFTC, we put heaps of swaps in as it was a bit bare
Out doing a few caches today around Riddles Creek. This was a great cache and love the big amo boxes. TFTC
I visited beautiful Dromkeen Homestead yesterday, but neglected to check if there was a cache was close by. Fortunately we did a trip to Hanging Rock today and passed by this cache on the way back to the Treetops Scout Camp where we are currently staying. The cache was found quickly and easily. I love a military cache.
Belated return from Wangaratta, and we are still finding a few. Yes it's very sad that Dromkeen is no longer what it was.
The Motel was devoid of guests, so we brought a swag of visiting trackables and left one to attract some more visitors for swapping.
Took an old 'Cats' membership tag to bring it home to Geelong.

On my way home from Geelong for the geo event this weekend. I nice quick find along the way thanks
All the years I lived in Gisborne, mum still lives there, never seen Dromkeen. Driven past it, know it's there hidden behind the trees, but never ventured in. I see it is a gallery and cafe now, must bring mum over for a look. Thank you for bringing me here and highlighting local interest sites. The cache was quickly found, unfortunately a local hairy Mc Scary huntsman has decided to inhabit the hotel. Eeeek... DEFINITELY not a Travel Bug I'd pick up!
Yarra after several DNF today spirits lifted with this find.

With our gameboard now extended to include regional Vic, RoamingHowie and I decided to go explore the Sunbury & Riddells Creek area.
No tbs here today. Must be quarantining in another motel.
Thanks for bringing us here today by placing this cache, Riddell

Now that travel restrictions have been lifted it is time to venture out into the countryside again. Out and about targeting some caches and adventure labs that have been on the list for a while.
The travel bug hotel is a little like a COVID quarantine hotel at the moment and is missing any actual tourists. While searching for the hide a stranger appeared from nowhere in the middle of the bushes just walking along. I’m sure no weirder than some of the bushes I have appeared from while caching in the past.
Thanks Riddell for the cache.

Found it
After a mammoth geocaching outing on Saturday, we decided to spend the days on 'drive-bys. We saw a new new bonus Adventure lab drop in Sunbury/Riddles Creek area and thought that it fitted the bill. But there was a long drive from the SE Suburbs to get to there. We decided to make a dash for it, and if we missed it, we had it on good authority from the Riddles that the area was very interesting to explore.
Once we had grabbed the bonus cache, we then set off to enjoy the other pleasures of Riddles Creek and snaffled a few other geocaches along the way. This geocache was one of those that we grabbed before having a lovely lunch around the lake in Riddles Creek.

Found as Nicnax with PapaGrouch. We took a different route home from Ballarat and it took us past this cache so we made a quick stop to find it. Nice to get another regular sized cache to add to my tally, there aren't nearly as many of these as there are small and micro. TFTC
Camping nearby and spotted this cache and it turned out to be quite big
Prob with calling a geocache a TB hotel is it attracts cachers who like to horde trackables. And don’t drop anything back in.
I dropped a trackable this morning! Plz only take it if you can replace it. Or help it on its mission

First cache for 2021 with Lazdaz 01/01/2021. Therefore has to be a favourite. TFTC.
After a long drive to clear my head and a nearby first to find I thought I would pick up a couple of caches in the area before heading home. This seemed like a good one to grab before it got dark.
I decided not to grab any TB's as I have a very bad habit of grabbing them and hanging on to them for way too long even though I have the best of intention when I grab them.
Thank you Riddell for the hide

Disabled for the duration of the Covid-19 crisis.
Although exercise is ok, beaches, parks etc are gradually being closed, and we are being asked to stay home.
The possibility to transmit the virus by surface contact exists, so why take chances?
At the end of the day, geocaching is a game, and we are dealing with a serious Public Health issue.
We need to get our priorities in order.
I believe the responsible thing is to disable all my caches, until the crisis passes.
Thanks.

Saw my first trackable in this cache. I have no idea how they work but it was so cool!
Thought I would drop by before the new year and see what was on offer. LNTN... Happy New Year
How fitting to actually catch up with Riddell in Riddells Creek when we just happened to be here - but it was great to also find some of the Team Riddell caches while here. We will have to come back to see the Sand Sculptures at the nearby Dromkeen. TFTC Riddell
At GZ I found a suspicious pile of sticks. All was in good condition and as per the description. Not too much rubbish here as we have heard. TFTC.
Found with CybergranV and her Muggle Hubby on our way home from the Geelong Christmas events.
This was to be our very last cache for the weekend as it was straight home from here struggling to get me to work on time.
We made it. [^]
TFTC Riddell, It was in good nic even though the surrounds could use a good spruce up.

On our way home from the beaut few days spent in Geelong, Anglesea and Lara, with Muggle Hubby and dalerious, this was our last stop and final cache for our trip.
I loved the history of Dromkeen and wondered whatever happened to that incredible collection???
Intending to drop a couple of travel bugs in here, I changed my mind when I saw how much litter was around the area, and worried that they may not survive.
Sorry mate, all we left behind were our signatures and thanks for the cache.
