Here for a while looking, and looking some more. But nothing.Tha is anyway. Lovely little walk.
Probably just me but with the amount of blackberry in GZ I could only get within about 2m of the cache. Found the bucket okay though. I guess the GZ has changed a lot since 2007
Well this cache had us searching and searching. Lots of prickes and cuts from the cutty grass. Just about to give up when Albert shouts out he's found it. Close to the big bucket but in a bush and not flax. One smiley face for us .TFTC
Last time here, over 12 years ago, I headed along the track by car and parked at a fallen tree, before heading on the last part of the way on foot. This time we parked at the nicely developed and planted parking area, then enjoyed a loop walk. Especially enjoyed was turning that blue face into a yellow one. Recent talk about near the white bucket helped the find, though the logbook was a tad damp.
Having a few days off work after some time away overseas, and a chance to hang out with mrs c. A blue-bird day weather forecast for Central Plateau meant that a trip up to Ohakune and the mount was on the cards. A modest couple of caches was on the list, and hope to avenge a 12 year old DNF! Yep, managed that one at George's Reserve.

Nice walk around here. Buzzybb soon located the cache. Fav point for a nice spot & walk.
A nice walk and lake that I didn’t even know was here. We even decided to continue on round the track and do a loop of the lake being such a nice walk. Didn’t take long to find cache thanks to spot on co ords and log from previous finder. Tftc
In the area for the weekend saw this cache but had a dnf but we decided to go for a walk and see if we could find the cache. Co ordinates were spot on. Hint not much help. Look fir a big white bucket. Cache is very close by. Cache all good log was dry. Thank you for bringing us to the area, never knew it was here. Cache hasn't been found for a while. It's our lucky day
Thanks makra for the cache. It’s #1591 for us. We found your cache on 2 January 2022. Had to approach the king way round but was an easy find from behind.
March has been such a busy month, but not so much with getting out and about to indulge in finding some caches for myself. So what better way to remedy this than have a few days away in an area not previously cached out?
Cue a weekend of touring around the Tongariro National Park in good company. Exactly what I needed, and a weekend that would see me find over a hundred caches, including getting my 4000th.
It was a 2 hour drive after work today to get to Ohakune, which was to be our base for 2 nights. I didn't worry about caching much on the way up until after I have unpacked my car at the campground, when I decided to grab a few before the light failed me.
This would be my last cache for the evening, and I hoped for a pleasant walk before heading back to the campsite. In spite of it being a Friday evening, the whole area was very quiet with only a couple of other cars in the parking area. I was able to walk around to GZ easily enough, but after staring at the bush layout I decided to go back and try a different approach which proved to be the right decision as the cache was then a reasonably quick find, and I was able to sign and replace the log without issue.
Thanks for setting up and maintaining this cache.

Spent a while searching the wrong flex, further into bush than I realised. Got it in the end, great location!
Find number 7276. The Gee in my caching name is for my middle name "George". Nice walk around the lake to GZ. Took me a little time before I found the cache. Not being a great fan of caches in flax as they can be difficult to find. I was pleased to see that this was hidden between the rock and a hard place. Thank you for bringing me here.
Once we went as suggested and went into the G Z from behind where there there is a small grassy clearing it was easily located. What a lovely clear lake!
We walked along this track enjoying the sunshine and unpopulated area...no overseas tourist which is lovely for us but not so good for the local businesses sadly.
I went on a very unexpected trip travelling to central North Inland on some unusual roads and staying at a small 'township" on of the way . we left early, travelled through Whanganui where we had morning tea, and the up the parapara s , to Rangitau where we were staying and then went out on day trips locating a few more caches
thank you for this cache .

On my way to Hamilton for the weekend, made a little detour and a walk to GZ. Thanks makra for the cache.
#8154. I am driving north to Auckland and have decided to take 2 days to get there to allow time to stop and pick up a few geocaches on the way. This was one of them. I am glad I made the effort to find this one. It had just started to drizzle as I parked the car but decided to go for the walk anyway. It was not promising at first with some cut over trees near the start. But once into the native bush I really enjoyed walking along the forest trail with glimpses of the lake. Once near GZ the lake was tranquil and good to see a couple of dabchicks swimming out there. Quite a few bush birds were seen and heard. The cache itself only took a few minutes to find and yes worth heading in through the grass and coming around behind so you don't have to scramble through the flax. Soon spied the container tucked in behind some solid cover. Signed and replaced everything as found. Thanks makra for hiding it here. Favourite for showing me this interesting reserve and lake.
Beautiful location, been past many times but never realized it was here, left a little bug that's looking to make it's way overseas
Fun walk, can't see much of the lake. Daughter was happy to find a painted rock as there were no others around the lake. Left a little turtle in its place. Tftc
Found you a few weeks ago while staying with friends. We enjoyed exploring the town. Picked up the geocaches to take to Nepal with me next week
Not sure why so blind before... Rocked on up & made an easy find this time. TFTC! Dropped in 2 TBs
oops, edit to add in the TBs!

Cold wet day, ugh. Notebook is quite ratty, so couldn't write as the paper was too damp
Staying in Ohakune for weekend doing a spot of geocaching with two of the kids beautiful morning for it . Quick find here

(re-)found while on an afternoon walk with 5 adults and 7 children (ages 2 - .
Three families are staying in Ohakune for an Easter get-away.
Last time (July 2015) we drove around the lake. This time there is a locked gate at the entrance and some forestry activity is happening on the road.
Once we cleared the felled trees and debris (approx 200m), the beautiful bush kicked back in and we could enjoy the surroundings.
Someone has placed ~100 painted rocks around the lake road and our kids had great fun finding them as we walked. We said that they were only allowed to keep one each, so they would pick one up and carry it till they discovered the next one and decide if they wanted to swap it.
Thanks for keeping this cache active at this area

Pretty much dry but log a little damp. Has been years since I have been here. TFTC
I decided to park on Lakes Road and jump on my bike to grab this one. It was a short bike ride to this cache. It was a quick find then back on my bike back the way I came. No muggle worries this afternoon.

Another day that I am able to combine work and caching with. Had to travel To Raetahi so why not collect some caches in my travels.
With the Squirrel on board and route plotted we were in with a fairly long road trip.
Great to tick a few out of the way caches with one in particular that had taken us a few years to complete.
Even managed a couple of virtuals which was good.
Many thanks to the caches owners for these caches. SLTFTC

With Gap (of Fap and Gap)... Heading southward so that Gap can complete an installation job. Naturally, we have some caching to do...
We were pleasantly surprised to find a vehicle track around the lake. Despite the pot holes and the mud, we made it to ground zone with out an incident. This was a quick, damp find... After a scan of the lake, we were back on our circuitous route around the lake. We were out of there in next to no time... Thanks George! TFTC.

Easy find! Book a tad damp still but able to write on it rough track down there but its worth it!
Easy find, not good on a wet day, shoes and socks were soaked after but what a nice hidden gem this place is. Road to get here is a bit rough, got through ok in my subaru station wagon.
Sveppi and I have come to The Mountain again, this time for an overnight hike to Mangaehuehu hut. On the way back this morning I thought we might claim a cache. I've had my eye on this one for a while, being older, and a regular.
This is a strange reserve, looks in need of a bit of Love. Definitely wouldn't have know it was there without the geocache.
Sveppi wanted to walk (stragely enough, since we've been walking for the last 2 days!) so I parked at the junction and we used our legs from there. Cache was located easily, and as I saw the container I thought it would be wet inside. And I was right. Container not watertight, ziplocks full of holes. Log quite damp and hard to write in, but we managed. Thanks for showing us the area anyways!

Stopped here on the way home after an overnight trip to Mangaehuehu Hut. Would never had found the reserve if it wasn't for geocaching. Not what we expected but nice to explore anyway. Cache is wet and could do with some TLC. Thanks for the placement.
I had parked my snail shell at the Ohakune Club a couple of days ago and today the mission was to pick up a few caches on the southern side of the mountains.
Still heading west. Not quite round and round the mulberry bush but round and the lake. ARGH! I hate flax but thankfully I found it quickly. No wasps today.
Cheers for the cache.

Bumpy track out to cache.lucky to have AWD. Wasps nest right at gz so didn't even look.bummer.
This one continues to stump me, there's quite a bit of rubbish around and I feel guilty of didn't bring a bag to pick it up. I'm not so keen to keep on trampling the bush
Found with Lilywite as we did a short bike ride to stretch our legs after yesterday's trip on the Bridge to Nowhere. TFTC
. Filling in time waiting for my partner to do the Goat Run from Whakapa to Turow. Came out for this one and thought a walk would do me good. Lovely area and I walked from the road. No one else around so all was quiet at GZ. Moved to the back as suggested and spotted the cache - glad to be able to keep my dry feet but it did take a bit of careful foot placement. . TFTC
doing a clean up of caches this way that I have been wanting to do for a little while, as we needed to pick up kaleb a day trip was the perfect time, started out at 7.30am and got home about 8pm one thing us geocachers understand is that is it is never a quick trip when there is caching involved, thanks for the placement sorry about the copy and paste logs but it was getting hard to remember some of them. thanks for the placement we have enjoyed stopping at every single one.
On my way to stay in Ohakune prior to completing the Tongariro Crossing...stopped in and grabbed this cache - nice quick find and a lovely lake area. TFTC
I was staying in Ohakune for a few days and took a quick drive out to Raetihi, then part way down SH4, finding a few caches in between nasty showers that kept sweeping through, stopped for this cache on my way back into Ohakune, which was found no problem. TFTC!
found without any difficulty. one would need gumboots if its been wet but other than that a great cache.
We broke down the tree blocking the access in! Felt very intrepid as a result and more determined to find the cache. Wet feet and hands slashed by cutty grass but we found it. TFTC all the same!
There were three trees across the track, so we couldn't drive. We had to climb over or go under and then walk the track. I thought it was weird that the track was actually a road. TFTC
Went for a walk together with Godispojken and my muggle husband. And it was good that we had decided to walk, and not drive or bike, because there were no less than three tree trunks lying across the track early on. But that was good, because that meant noone else was there apart from us. This lake is truly beautiful, and it would be great to come back in the summer for a swim. The cache was easily retreived. TFTC
Lovely cycle ride on the ratamarie track. Couple of false starts to find the reserve and then had to walk the last 300m as a tree was down over the track. Pleased to have a wuick find at gz as it was well past lunchtime by the time we got here. TFTC
With rustynz and gorby on a caching adventure
See I did not log this one, but catching up! Thanks for the hide, at last can turn this frown into a smiley. We came when the tree was blocking the way, and then it was a dive into the flax. Thanks for the hide makra.

February 2012 with rebel98 we had to log a DNF. When we got to Ohakune this was a quick diversion in the hope of a find. When we turned into the park entrance a large tree had fallen over the road, preventing us from driving forward. Undeterred we parked the car out on the Main road, and walked in, climbing over the tree trunk. The GPS says 300+ metres, but that is a straight line.
A lovely walk along the road, and eventually we get to GZ. This time with rebel98 and Gorby, its a quick find, and our frown has been turned into a smiley. Thanks for the hide
The Information Centre has informed DOC of the tree blocking the way, not sure how long it will take for them to remove!

#1502 Found Geocache
After a fine walk and not swimming in the pool. The cache searched and found. After completing log, logbook and cache placed back on the same place I found it. Best CO makra thank you very much for this well done and maintained cache.

This one has been on the "to do" list for quite a while. Thanks makra for inviting us to this lake. We were glad that we were driving a 4WD though. Pleased to find the container quite quickly and then complete the circuit of the lake.
Found with TregearP on our way to National Park.
An interesting detour and apologies to the couple we sprung changing into their togs to take a dip on a 24 degree and still afternoon.
A stunning beautiful spot, but given the embarrassment already caused we only stayed long enough to have a quick look at the area, bagged the cache and were on our way.
All in good order. TNLNSL, TFTC.

Disturbed a couple of skinny dippers but at least they weren't too interested in what we were doing.
Found as we were heading north to tackle GW50#5, great weather - quick find. TFTC

On our way to the moutain so MissT could play in the snow - which turned out to be more like ice at the top of the road, anyways, on the way we had to do some caching and this was the first for the day. A nice drive to GZ where a short search had the cache found - TNLNSL. Then it was time for some piccies beside the lake then on into Ohakune for some more caching as we made our way up the mountain road. Thanks for bringing us to this nice spot and the placement makra.
After an amazing weekend snowboarding on Mt Ruapehu with friends I left our accommodation after a great breakfast to head back to Auckland. Enjoyed the drive around the lake. TFTC
Took my parents out for their first Geocaching experience. Quick find, nice cache, thanks
Found while on a family trip to the snow (EtherLady's first time in the flurries!).
This was an enjoyable drive through the bush to GZ. Pity I didn't have more time available to explore the surroundings.

Found. My wife and I took the grand kids on a search today. First timers, was fun. Just doing all the local ones for a start to get used to things.
Our first Cache. And its right across the road from our house, walked past it with out ever knowing until today. Very cool and ended up spending the day finding Caches and it led us all the way to Huka Falls, Taupo. Kids loved it.
Love geocaching takes you to locations you would never find otherwise. This is one of them. Beautiful spot! Tftc
Must have missed logging this delightful lake. In the area on our annual get together/wine fest.
Bit of a challenge dealing with the vegetation and some mushy ground after some major rainfall. Thanks for bringing us to this delightful lake. Wouldn't have thought to come here otherwise.
What a lovely hidden lake! Track was a bit mushy but the Boogie-O Beemer was quite happy with the drive. Quick find-and-sign in slightly damp ground conditions with Mapper Ted. Thanks for showing us this delightful spot!
Thank you for a nice rest (nice location) at a roadtrip form Wanganui to Ohakune.
Thank you for that cache.

We were in the area for the Auckland Anniversary weekend with some friends. They have been here many times but mainly in the winter for skiing so they were surprised when I said 'lets explore the lake' as they never knew it was here - geocaching comes through again and shows us spots we never knew were there.
The cache was found shortly after jumping out of the cars although it was easier for the smaller people in the group to get through the mini bush whack.
Thanks so much for bringing us here.

Another amazing spot that I had to myself tonight. Fortunately a quick find as I hate flax!
Found on a bike ride around from Ohakune to Raetihi. Wonderful cycling country, spectacular scenery, good company, a great day. TFTC
Took a bit of searching but got it. No one about on a beautiful sunny afternoon. TFTC
Drove right around to cache site, I drove past an old couple who were walking the circuit, so when I parked up there was a guy parked up in his van right next to the water, singing at the top of his voice with his guitar, I don't think he even heard me pull up not far from him, I jumped out of the car quickly before the old couple showed up, dived into the bushes, then they showed up and started yakking to the singer, I could see them but they couldn't see me! I waited for the couple to leave and the singer to start singing again then I could do my search without them hearing me! Found it soon after, thanks for bringing me here, never knew this little lake existed, so peaceful.
Found after second attempt. Wasn't sure if we had the right cache as photos show a systema container but after checking logs found the cache had been changed to a big white pill container. Contents & log book was a little damp so we gave it a air & dry out in the sun while kids played. Wrapped it all back up with an xtra plastic bag & put it back where we found it, well hidden.
Beautiful spot but be aware that the lake is Tapu as we were never aloud to swim here!

Headed south with C&D, for a full weekend of caching, with the first cache being found at 6.00pm Friday night and finishing with an Event in Hamilton at 1.30pm on Sunday afternoon. Both of us had certain caches we were targeting for the Geo Licence series, as well as finding anything else we driving past, or near. All up we found 165 caches, travelled just over 1700kms and had around 5 hours sleep.
All in all it was an EPIC adventure, exploring in and around the Whanganui to Dannevirke area. We found some great caches along the way and saw some great sights. Thanks to everyone for placing all the caches.
Was pleasantly surprised we could drive to this one, had been prepared for a walk in. C&D wasn't watching here he was driving once we replaced the cache (to busy reloading the GPS up for the next cache) and tried to drive forward and into the lake. Lucky one of us was looking.

Heading south for a bit of a caching trip in the company of HKCB both of us endeavoring to know off a chunk of the requirements for the Geocaching License Series (different stages, different requirements for each of us), so what better excuse for a road trip.
Between 6.30pm Friday and 1,30pm Sunday I collected approx 140 caches (HKCB=155) and many of these needing to be a great distance from home, so little sleep, so much caching
Some figures for the trip were
1/. approx 1700 kms
2/. Caches mentioned above.
3/. some very memorable caches in Wanganui
4/. lots of laughter and lies
5/. 4 hours sleep
We were surprised to find that we could drive around this lake, as we were prepared for a long walk
