I have just done a cache that I never wanted to do, after wazza9's description when he done it 12 years ago. My GPS was closer in another direction, but wazza9 said it's this way, so I started and then said NO, but continued on my bum, when I got there, I said a Letterbox would not fit there. Out I got safely on my bum again. Then looked at the hint and said I am going back to where GPS had me, wazza9 had me was 14 mts and I only had 4 mts. I quickly made the find, signed the log book and took trackable, only sorry I didn't bring some out to leave. As I had no intention of doing this "dangerous cache". A big thanks to The Rats. Must tell myself to trust my instincts.
Out here to do a stage of an AL and an EarthCache. It is so dry that I suggested Nana have a go at it. I took her to where I started my attack on this cache and she said from my previous description she would never do it. Well today she sat down and went to GZ and told me there was nothing there. Upon returning she said her coordinates were 14m away. We checked and found the cache. A shame the challenge to get it has gone but still a good cache.Visited trackables.
What a great spot, and loved the idea of the postcards. Thanks for bringing us out here. Dropped a TB off to continue its journey.
2nd bite of the cherry at this one. Successful today. Kids loved it. Waterfall was pumping. Great spot. Tftc Postman Rat
Have been to the lovely Madden's Falls many times but only today looked for the geocache. Such a beautiful area Thank you
We have looked at this listing a number of times when we drive between Sydney and Canberra.Today, we had a little extra time and being a beautiful sunny day, we decided we would make the detour here. There were just two cars parked at the top, and so we made a really relaxed and pleasant walk down to GZ. Although it is still early spring, today is very warm, and tomorrow will be hot! After stopping to enjoy the waterfall, we continued on to GZ to a very likely and spectacular location. A bit of searching, and we soon found the lovely old Hide in its large container. Thanks The Rats!An absolutely beautiful spot for this Hide. Domsky
I had been meaning to come out to this cache for years I just never really come this way, today I attended a nearby geo event so set sights on this cache afterwards.
Parked up at the gate and wasnt long to get down to the viewing platform,it sure is a top spot also few people down here bathing off from the heat today
At GZ I made a pretty straightforward find before heading back up for a visit of the apple orchard.
An enjoyable visit here today
Thanks for the cache

(2 of 5 today)Decided to head south today, with two specific targets in mind - one a Letterbox and the other a bushwalk. Got both as well as three others more in the Park&Grab category. A good balance.Decided to drive down via Heathcote and back via Appin.Got all five I went for.###END OF CUT AND PASTE SECTION###Just catching up with a few unlogged finds from earlier this year. My apologies - it is in no way a reflection on the caches not logged. It's not you, it's me!###END OF ABJECT GROVELLING SECTION###I've had my eye on this southern cache for a while. So today's the day. turned off the highway and got a park at the trailhead - they were all taken when I returned.Walked to the lookout for, well a look... out. Then with no muggles in sight, headed off to GZ. Took a slightly circuitous route but soon enough the metres to go were getting right down. Given it is a **The Rats** cache I was concerned with how close to the edge it would be, but thankfully I made a quick find a comfortable distance from any big drops.Completed signing duties and replaced. Now for one more cache I've managed to orphan over the years along with a newer placement.Gets a favourite for the top location.SLTNLNTFTC
Awesome little spot, and beautiful Falls nearby! Fairly quick find after wandering around for a little. Tftc
Nice size camo, wondered around abit until a possible location caught my eye and wasn't long before CIH
Whilst on my way to attack an AL that turned out to be inaccessible, and to pick up a part of another AL which unfortunately turned out to be sequential so couldn’t claim it, I decided to head out here first. I used to include this area in part of my regular running routine, but only ever came into Maddens Falls once. At that time, it seemed to be a much further target, and also was a very different structure at the glass lookout. Even the apple orchard has progressed amazingly! But now there are elevated boardwalks, and a new viewing area. Unfortunately again it was necessary to leave the boardwalk and head off into the bush.
The falls were quite impressive today, and I did hang for a while at the lookout. I just wish that dog would stop barking!
The cache was located quickly, but had to go by geosenses and the hint rather than GPS, and it was nice to find this type of hide, haven’t seen one for quite some time now.
Performed the duties and replaced, then headed back to the path to be greeted by an older couple, the obvious reason for the canine cacophony.
Thanks for bringing me back to this area.

I visited this one today in the hope of retrieving a TB to find another cache but was disappointed as I couldn't see it in the cache.
Saturday morning walk to Maddens Falls. Jumped the track and scrambled down to GZ for a nice size cache. Thanks
Utilising a socially distanced AL for lockdown exercise, realised one of the WPs would bring me close enough to finally check the Rat’s mail. For a hide almost two years older than when I started caching, today’s smiley also helped tick off this month’s Peak Challenge with its favourite points. Just for good measure, here’s another and the forwarding mail is on its way.
Found it, about a month ago, by accident which prompted our official leap into logging our finds! TFTC!
A nice big cache next to a beautiful spot. We picked a letter to send at a later time. Thanks for the cache.
What a beautiful walk and stunning spot. A favourite for sure. Tribute to a cacheing legend as well. Tftc tnln
Sunday funday adventures with BarberBlackSheep brought us out to this part of the world. I had been here years ago when it was quieter and today is was just full of people. I loved the little rock hopping adventure to find this cache, enjoyed all the old school postcards inside as well! Took the Mt Buffalo postcard as it's one of my favourite spots in Australia, did a lot of fun abseiling out there!

Found this with Adventure-f0x after going on a really nice day adventure and stopping in to check this waterfall off my list
Good little walk off the track to get to this and easy enough to find
This is my second every letterbox cache so thank you for that

Finally found this cache today, after its been on the map staring at me for a while. Considering I live about 5 minutes away from it, I should have ticked it off the list sooner! I have visited this spot since I was a little kid. Upon arrival, all you could hear was the waterfall absolutely pumping! It has rained quite a lot here in Darkes Forest, hence the volume of water coming through. We walked over to gz (mrwhiskers76 in tow), with a bit of a pace as the weather looked like it was going to turn.. again. After a bit of a search, I had the cache in hand and the log signed. Will be sending off the post card once I get back into town (Helensburgh), tomorrow. Just have to think of one of the many, many caching stories I’ve got to tell, to write on the card. Thank you for this great cache! All was in order.
I first found this cache on the 10/11/2011 and it was a very special cache early on in my caching days. I’m revisiting this area today as I haven’t been here for at least a year now. The waterfall was pumping in the rain with plenty of people still making the walk to waterfall to catch a sight of it. I quickly uncovered the cache in a different location and a different container from memory! I picked up the tb to move on and dropped another one in!
Thank you for a wonderful cache, kiddies friends and I, had a wonderful adventure on a cool afternoon
This was our first cache since upgrading to a premium membership. What a great find and such a nice spot
A great cache at a lovely spot after an easy walk. Good to get out of the house for a walk after first day of home schooling. I loved looking through the postcards and finding a very appropriate one for our family. Will post it when we get home, not sure when that will be as our flight to Ireland now cancelled tomorrow with covid19 restrictions TFTC
Great discovery, next to our new job at the Appleshack, just nextdoor !
Wonderful place, great view, we will send the card one day ! cheers

Only realised there was a Letterbox after walking across from Weddeburn to close to here. Far too tired to grab it then so made the trek back here today. This is of course a lovely spot and well worth the visit.
There are not many Letterboxes to collect so I enjoyed having another to add to the tally. Thanks The Rats and the postcard is on the way.

We needed to find a Letterbox Hybrid cache placed in 2008 as a qualifier for a Jasmer year challenge of Letterbox Hybrids, and so we made a point of coming to search for this one today being a rare 2008 Letterbox cache. We parked up and enjoyed the walk along the path towards Ground Zero where the cache was soon located. We chose a postcard and will take it home with us and then post it to the CO. We signed the log book and then replaced as found. Thanks so much for the cache at this great location, even though the Falls were just a trickle today. Greetings from Zimbabwe
Found during the 2019 Gong Mega signed the cache DSD thanks for the cache and the adventure. Included is a random photo of my geocaching during the Mega.
The start of our drive back to the airport and we called at this one for a number of reasions The Rats caches are always good and its a regular letterbox whats not to like.
It was a short walk from the parking to the cache, we had a little problem with muggles along the way but we got past that and before long we were searching for the cache and it was a very good one to.
That done we took in the views of the waterfall before we headed back to the car.
While over from Tassie to attend the Gong OzGeo Muster 2019 myself and Goose of GooseandEgg we managed to polish off few series and grab some other random caches in our five days on the big island.
We flew out on Thursday night and arrived back in the apple isle late on Tuesday night, thanks for all the caches.
We normally try and get some old caches or D/T's we are missing but this time it was more about a couple of series and catching up with a few fellow cachers.

After all final mega event finished on Tuesday morning it was time to start working our way north to Sydney, no huge hurry but stainless steel rat and I have been caught in NSW holiday traffic before so like to get a but closer to the airport and do some caches there. We didn't get a long way as this cache was on our radar so making our first detour we parked near Darkes Cider and started the short walk.
We encountered a couple of young families who want ed the whole track and seemed oblivious we were even behind them. A loud cough from SSR soon moved them aside and we continued on unhindered.
Wow, what beautiful falls. We took a minute to enjoy them but decided we should head off and find the cache before the 'slow train' arrived. Following a rocky ledge for a while before bouncing over some boulders to a small trail was most enjoyable and it wasn't long and we at GZ and finding another great cache.
I picked a postcard to send as a memory from a QLD family holiday we really enjoyed.
Back to the falls for another look before heading north.
Thanks for another enjoyable cache The Rats, we found a mice handful of yours this trip. Favourite point for this cache from me.

After popping up to the Oz Geomuster site this morning to attend the pathtag swap, myself and DSD had some spare time before we had to be back down in Wollongong for the Flash Mob at the lighthouse.
This letterbox has been on my to-do list for a while now, and this mega event was the perfect chance! An easy drive to the parking coordinates and then only a short walk to GZ down a well defined and kept track. All of this yet I was absolutely stunned that we were the first people to come visit this cache during the mega! And it was already Sunday! I am now logging this a week later and only 1 other person has logged it!
That bemuses me! This was an absolutely stunning location and a high quality letterbox that is only a short walk and right near the mega site! Only 120 finds in 11 years as well, I don't understand it!
Thanks to The Rats for this cache, a favourite point from me, people are missing out!

Found with Zelda, the geodog, though not sure if they are allowed here. Anyway, kept her on the lead as GZ had some steep cliffs. The trek in was easy with a new boardwalk to the lookout. The base of tree was a fair way down, but soon spotted something that would hide a cache, and it was CIH. No stamp or postcards, but I used my own stamp to add to the new sheet. Nice walk in to the falls nearby. TFTC and bringing me an area I was previously unaware of so close to home.
Out today with Brewmaker to find this letterbox cache. We parked the car nearby and then it was a nice walk though the bush to the waterfall. After stopping for a photo, we continued on towards the cache. Read the hint, and I thought I knew where to look, but no cache was there. Then Brew realised what the clue actually referred to, making the task more difficult. But with a bit of dexterity, Brew found the cache. Unfortunately no letterbox related items at the moment, so we signed the replacement log and then returned it all as found. No rats seen today (only a geodog!) Then it was back to the car. TFTC
#2441 met up earlier with teamMerlin, Splitty Miller JJCC, alnic39 & TARDIS 0061 to make an attempt on a number of caches that we needed for various challenges we make ourselves. We were nearby to do The Pinnacles but stiill some time for low tide.
So I suggested this one I have been here twice before but in rain & drizzle got to the spots so I could see the cache but couldn't do the last little bit with the wet rocks. I had been there when it was the original hide & when it was the temporary container. So with not a cloud in the sky thought I would get rid of 2 previous failed attempts at this one. The others thought a Letterbox why not we parkjed near the start of the walking track and headed off got to the spot that I had been before but the hiding sppot at the base of tree was empty. So when we got some reception teamMerlin sent a message saying we couldn't find the cache.
We then went over and found The Pinnacles on the way back we stopped at Helensburgh teamMerlin hadn't got a reply. We decided that if we could rummage together a temporary cache we would place and advise the CO what we had done & see what he wanted us to do. So found a regular Decor container, notepad (signed the log), pencil, silica gel & ziplock bag. So headed in again teamMerlin was the only one to go to GZ and placed it a bit further in the base of the tree and placed the rocks around it.
Later I sent a message advising what we had done & got an Ok to log the cache
Thanks to the Rats for placing the cache it us a bit off the main drag so without it I wouldn't have known the waterfall was there nor the place across from the parking spot
The following TBs visited for the distance - phlphotos 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 & 2018 NSW geocoin, phlphotos travelling 2011, 2012, 2016, 2017 & 2018 NSW Geocoin, phlphotos Mary Hyde's compass, phlphotos Spindoc Bob Memorial Geocoin, phlphotos, phlphotos Area 51 Tag, phlphotos backpacker canister cover, phlphotos Cache In Trash Out Geocoin, phlphotos Cache In Trash Out Tag, phlphotos CITO Micro Geocoin, phlphotos Col Miner geocoin, phlphotos Four Elements Geocoin, phlphotos Optical Illusion Geocoin, phlphotos Trackable Building Brick, phlphotos Travel Bug Dog Tag, phlphotos Oz GeoMuster 2018 geocoin, phlphotos Oz GeoMuster 2018 geocoin, & dirty Black Juke

Meeting up with phlphotos, alnic39, TARDIS 0061 and JJCC at Darkes Forest earlier in the day, we attempted this letterbox cache only to find no container at GZ. phlphotos had been within 2m of GZ on two separate occasions with adverse conditions, so had seen the container on each visit. On exiting back to the car we messaged the CO and headed off to do our target cache The Pinnacles.
After finding that particular cache we assembled back at the cars and rummaged around and found a replacement cache...so off back up the hill we went and headed back to GZ. After signing the log we hid the replacement cache in the spot phlphotos had previously seen the cache. Thanks for the letterbox cache The Rats.
The following TBs came through for the mileage : Bob geoMinion, Dave geoMinion, Evil geoMinion, Jerry geoMinion, Larry geoMinion, Mary Hyde's Treasure, Stuart geoMinion, teamMerlin's 7 Deadly Ducks Tag (Lust), Vanlith The Youngling, Hidden Creatures Geocoin TB, Selindian explores the World, Cumbyrocks GeoGem.

Found GZ but it looks like it has been muggled. Nothing in the hiding hole.
I confirmed this tonight when I took a look at the gallery photos
For a positive, I got some cider, apples. potato, eggs and honey from the Orchard, saw a new waterfall and stopped into Sublime point lookout on the way home for some coastal views on a beautiful day.

28/3/17. 12:27 PM. Cache #4895.
3rd of 10 finds today (& 3 DNFs) - Maddens Plains, Darkes Forest, Helensburgh, Woronora Dam, South Turramurra.
I may not have been able to find "Twenty Kilometre Radius Challenge", my main target for the day (yes, I know it was archived), but this adventure made up for it. Best cache of the day!
Came here after "Wollongong Suburbs - Darkes Forest". The walk towards GZ from DF Road, on dirt and boardwalk, wasn't all that special, but the terrain at the end, once I got to the waterfall lookout was pretty special. Very up and down. Found the cache from above was quite easy enough thanks to the hint but even then, getting around and down to it was another challenge. Good fun!
After signing, replacing and returning back up the track, I went across the road to try the ciders and brought some home with me. Yummy! Still on my way home, I got the 4 caches in the "Blaumilchkanal" series along the way, with AUS-004 my next target. Giving this one a fave point; TFTC.

My very first cache. Lots of recent heavy rain so it was difficult to get to, but found it eventually
Sits in a pretty precarious location, so be careful.

Thank you for the cache. Log signed and cache replaced. *OCW Throsbyonchurch*.
I would say no problems with finding this cache and signing log.... But got the adrenalin going ..... Thank you for the hide.
Hello Mr & Mrs Rat and all the little Rats (mice)
I Found it . -- 1:20 PM -- SL TNLN TFTH. Thanks for bringing us here. The cache in average condition, found in open and was damp / slightly wet inside. **Terrain rating 3** in my opinion.
*** NO trackables found in this cache ***
It's been too hot for caching this summer so we've hardly been out. I have been spending some of the time analysing various caches and deciphering what is required to get to GZ, especially those requiring a two-foot trot of any length.
Having a cache craving and knowing the weather is supposed to be undesirable over the weekend I decided to put my wheels in motion and head out to sugarland.
The order of the day was to kill two birds with the one stone, so the focus was on Helensburgh. I needed to find a temple Waymark, grab a couple of photos from Helensburgh cemetery, find a couple of caches in a cache series to complete a series, and find my second ever Letterbox cache.
With Sprout One off to school, Hubz, Sprout Two and I made for our target. With mission complete, it was time to head home.
I think this cache hide is a bit unsafe. Hubz "insisted" on going to GZ against my better protesting. He ended up stuck there because the rock was a bit too high and a bit too narrow. I had to go to his rescue. He had to do the belly crawl to safety. I managed to trip down the step twice at the lookout and trip up the step . I am giving this cache a favourite because of the surrounding location, lovely waterfall and the fact you've placed a Letterbox cache here.

Stumbled across this while bushbashing to the bottom of the falls. Great cache!

Found on a beautiful Autumn day, while geowife & others went horse riding at the nearby riding ranch.
This was a tricky access for my dicky knees but well worth the effort. For the location & the fact I was able to reach it, this cache earns a favourite from me.

Included here are some photos of GZ, the cache itself, & a couple from the creek feeding the waterfall. Easy access to some nice swimming spots

Right near my house... You might pop in for an apple on your way out and say hi! Our new cider range is pretty good.
Beaut spot. Shallow cool pools at base of falls can be accessed down here with care, and another slightly easier route further along.
The apple orchard opposite the carpark brews their own great ciders ... Visit the shop on the way out.
I found this on Australia Day

Today, I was on a geo-mission with SpecimenX ( Geo-sister). I really enjoyed the cache the location, the weather and the company. TFTC.
Up from Canberra visiting family in The Shire
Plans were hatched with the geobro, goldfinger777, to set off in the morning and target the Scout Jamboree series as well as a few other randoms along the way.
We had a great day out in this lovely area collecting the caches with no DNFs [^]
This one was on the to do list on the way home from completing the Scout series. I love letterbox caches!
Parked at the entrance of the trail and then off we went for the wander. At the lookout, we admired this fantastic little spot before making our way down to GZ. One there I realised I needed to be so descended down to make the nice easy find! Sturdy Letterbox! Performed the stamping duties before returning the cache and off we went for the wander back to the car.
Thanks for the hide, The Rats

Without geocaching, I'd never have heard of Darkes Forest. Or that it is such a stunning area - I had a great wander around the creek and waterfall on this beautiful Sunday morning. Or that there is such a stunning cache here!
Took postcard from Grand Canyon. It will be returning to The Rats from USA via surface-mail (sorry )
But a Favourite Point has been express-delivered.
Thanks for the letterbox.

Cool cache. Awesome spot, got close to gz and knew where it was going to be. T2.5 for you maybe mate, i was packing it!
After paegle boy's 1000 finds event nearby I thought I'd clear out this area a bit before heading home to watch the MotoGP. I ended up with 10 finds plus the event, and my favourite rider won the GP, so it wasn't a bad day all up! Anyway, I expected this to be a serious bush bash but there turned out to be a very nice path almost all the way to GZ. I took a photo from the viewing platform then started the rock-hopping to GZ. Poking around, following the arrow, looking at hint-matching objects.. then I tried another angle and realised what was involved. Ah-hah! Soon had the cache in hand, log signed, pathtag left in lieu of a stamp. The return scramble was somehow more difficult and I ended up crawling on hands and knees to terra firma. Anyway, this is a beautiful area and a very fun cache, so TFTC!

After 1k event - went for a cache run with Paegleboy,
6th today.
Big spider was guarding the cache, so just be careful.
Stamp nearly out of ink I think?
Took a post-card, i'll send it through soon.

TFTC The Rats,
Cache is now back in its original spot. PLEASE DO NOT MOVE THE CACHE
Thanks to steeba for assisting with this.

The cache has temporarily been disabled until I can return it to its original location. To the cacher who moved it, my message to you is simple - play by the rules or don't play at all.
I decided that this was the best cache close by to enable another souvenir for the month and on approach to GZ I heard someone scratching around below the cliffs. It was nice to meet up with you pipersand.
A bit of a look around and decided to text a recent finder for another hunt as it was quite dangerous and very slippery around GZ. The extra hint was a great help in that I should not be looking so close to the edge. Bingo! caught sight of it straight away and called back to pipersand to join me for the opening ceremony.
It seems obvious to me that the placement was different from previous hints and photos and I kind of agree that it is in a much safer place. (approx 20m away from the edge).
Grabbed a postcard and the Travel Bug and will carry out their respective duties.
Thanks The Rats

After seeing that this cache was found yesterday I headed down this morning optimistic that I could indeed find it. Concentrating my efforts along the edge I was left scratching my head and gave into the temptation of phoning a previous finder who confirmed that I was in the right place and offered to come and help with the search. While waiting I headed down to the bottom of the cliff line to poke around and was surprised to be greeted from above by a fellow cacher "Pipes down under" who proved to be a much better lateral thinker than me and soon gave me the heads up that the cache was on higher ground. Yes it was well away from the edge that I had been obsessed with in a much more sedate location. Nice to meet you and thanks very much for your help "Pipes Down Under" and thanks to "The Rats" for bringing me to this special place.
Found it.. I see waterfall and I have ready stamp on log book here and I take one card and will do write to send mail you you soon and I drop my coin here [Time to Find: 25 min]
The waterfall was pumping after the recent rain and we headed off in the direction of gz and spent quite a bit of time checking and rechecking climbing up and down and even met another group of cachers who were having the same troubles as us. I don't like to give up but at least the apple cider from the apple shop across the road sweetened up the afternoon. On rechecking the logs and photos at home I am pretty convinced we were in the right spot which has me quite perplexed!!
Just posted my card off to The Rats detailing a cache I visited some time ago with two experienced geocaches and had a great time in spite of the torrid weather.
I loved this letter box cache and its location. Beautiful falls, great rock formations and this place feels "special". There is a small dam further up from the falls which is worth a look too.
Took me around 15 minutes to locate the cache, partly because things didn't seem to line up from the description, with around a 5 meter EPE at the time. Anyway soon had the CIH. Took a post card, Left a small peg with lady bird and a couple of craft items, SL. TFTC The Rats.
The cards in the mail and oh yes I have to give this one a favorite.

It was nearly a DNF. After a lengthy search we finally found it!! It was a nice cache day with Cogfrog. TFTC
Found the cache in a great location with a beautiful view, it was fun to jump down the rocks and it was a unique container.
TFTC!

Thanks for the great cache and beautiful spot. We were visiting the orchard nearby for Mother's Day and came here with Segway2012 to make the find. Tftc
