With absolutely no plan beyond coffee, I threw a couple of alternatives to SSR, and the three cashes near the waterworks we still hadn't found stood out as the most appealing to both of us.We moaned and groaned as we walked up the hill, wondering if we could have snuck up here in a vehicle but deciding we needed the exercise. Turning off behind the water tanks, it didn't take to long to get to GZ and WOW, how cook is this place? I'd not studied the listing so was unaware of the cache name origin or what the location showcased. It took us a long time to find the well concealed cache, despite checking out that exact spot earlier (and many other). It was only a log that SSR read out that made me check it again and there it was! A cool cache, a fantastic location, perfect! Definitely deserves a favourite point. Thanks Xorg and PixelwarriorVisit the [Geocaching Tasmania Facebook group](https://www.facebook.com/groups/318455407771/)Member of the [Tas_Community](http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?A=25086739) maintenance group.

What a little hidden gem this cave is, after looking at the cave for a bit we searched high and low for the cache but it was many minutes before the goose spotted this well hidden cache, I think i moved the rock that was providing cover for the container but i didn't spot it as it blended in so well.Again we had no idea what we were doing today so it was only after getting coffee that goose said waterworks and we headed off to clean up three old unfound caches.Found on 28/09/2024 at 12:02:00 thanks to Xorg and Pixelwarrior for placing this cache for me to find. The best caches I have found so far are:-Sentimental [Moorgreen P3:1, Penny Pincher](http://coord.info/GC32Z5B) By [Sven&Cup](http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?A=6596795)Traditional [Hanging Around in Toorak](http://coord.info/GC62KAP) By [bobthebuilder_123](http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?A=586681)Multi [Gawler Fort Knox](https://coord.info/GC5T0W1) By [**JEM**](http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?A=11449141)Unknown [Men In Black Holes](http://coord.info/GC1DVB0) By [SG-3](http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?A=918045) Letterbox [Rolf's Letterbox](http://coord.info/GC5NCYM) By [membsec](http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?A=5318842)Earthcache [Totem Pole](https://coord.info/GC862H8) By [The Hancock Clan](http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?A=263428)Visit the [Geocaching Tasmania Facebook group](https://www.facebook.com/groups/318455407771/)Member of the [Tas_Community](http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?A=25086739) maintenance group.

Wow, this is an amazing spot. Yet another incredible place discovered through caching. Im surprised that there are only four favourites for this cache, heres one more. Thanks for the cache Xorg and Pixelwarrior!

30-Jul-24
Amazing spot!! Thank you. Was happy to hear dencoxclan say, Got it! Will need to look up more info about this incredible cave. Thanks for bringing us here! Great exercise too. Beautiful day - and what a view!

15-Jul-23
Looked but did not find
Impressive camouflage

04-Jul-23
Wow, what a cool spot! Would never of known of this cave without this cache. I'm surprised there aren't more favourite points for such a great location. We'll certainly give one! TFTC!
Cheers,
The Hancock Clan

03-Jul-23
TFTC - this is a great spot, not sure why this cache has remained on my to-do list for so long!
Thanks for bringing me here - yet another "if not for geocaching" spot that I'd otherwise probably would never have seen.
Didn't take too long to find the cache, but I did need to widen my search as the GPS signal started bouncing around, expectedly.
Just used geo-nouse and the likely hide was soon spotted.
Pretty quiet here at the Waterworks reserve today - a cool calm, partly sunny winter day.
Somewhat predictably, there's no evidence in the logbook of the previous finder wakeupsleepy.
Thanks Xorg and Pixelwarrior, for this caching experience.
Cheers, EPs.

The water works are lovely

02-Jul-22
Cache #5 of 6 today on a nice walk around the Waterworks Reserve on this beautiful sunny day. Great little cave with beautiful eroded sandstone layers. Thank you for showing us this great location!

23-Dec-21
After the slog up to this one i was amazed by the cave. There was a small fireplace and some makeshift seats Cool
The cache was found nearby in a well cammoed material bag, so well cammoed i didn't spot it, i actually felt it. It is doing a fantastic job in keeping the cache dry! So much so the container looks like it's brand new Wink
The log within is also in A1 condition. Signed it at 11:40 on Thursday the 23rd of December 2021.

Loved the Sixpence which is still in great condition aswell.
TFTC Xorg and Pixelwarrior Cool

22-Aug-21
Very nice lil cave! Would love to have a few wines at that fire pit whilst admiring the mountain!!

01-Jan-21
Happy new year 2021

26-Oct-20
Beautiful area bit dnf.
Will be back another day to have more of a look.

12-Apr-20
Fantastic spot, TFTC! Second find for the afternoon.

23-Mar-20
Another fantastic location.

09-Feb-20
Tftc. A fairly measely collection of things in the cache - rocks, bandaids etc but a great spot.

27-Oct-19
Tftc. Love the coin

23-Sep-19
Cool

26-May-19
out and about with only one Rafa this time with a set agenda for today this was the second on the list, a wonderful place with a movie like experience backdrop, an easy find with the clues a hike to get to GZ. TFTC TNLN log dry.

Popped into the cave to wait for a passing shower that came just as I was writing on the log.

28-Jun-18
Nice little spot. Shame about the graffiti. Many thanks.

28-Jun-18
Nifty spot. Tftc!

04-Feb-18
TFTC! Was so sure that I found this cache before and was looking where I thought I found it last time but maybe forgot to log?? 99.9% positive I found this before!! Had that feeling that had been muggled. Then after 5 minutes.... bammm! Nope hadn’t found it before but have NOW!

20-Jun-17
In the area for a couple of hours today whilst the GeoGSP was off on a playdate. A very mild day considering it is the day before the shortest day of the year, so it was good to be out and about. I love this kind of cache, takes you slightly off track to a spot that I wouldn't have otherwise known about, let alone visit. Absolutely cracking view of the mountain from this cave. Cache was a nice easy find. Thanks for the cache Xorg and Pixelwarrior.

16-Mar-17
While family and friends were orienteering in Waterworks Reserve today I set out to find two caches. After finding [Eclipsing Keen Cachers](https://coord.info/GC120DQ) I moved on to this one. Looks like someone might camp here occasionally. Cache hidden well and in good condition. Took TB. TFTC

20-Oct-16
Left Oregon Cave TB at last. Sorry for hogging!

06-Oct-16
Yay, we found it this time Smile TFTC

Cache checked, all in situ and AOK.

28-Aug-16
Looked long and hard but to no avail

27-Aug-16
Searched and searched, no luck for us. We did find a small trinket or two (plastic horse, tiny soldier) on the floor of the cave, and a pencil in the leaf litter outside; could the cachet have been tampered with?

Fantastic spot, will visit again for sure Smile

05-May-16
With the weather clearing a little we decided to tackle the higher terrain caches around the Waterworks area. Having decided that a near=by cache needed to be approached from below we continued along the track and then spotted the likely home for the cache. Another rock scramble/climb followed and then - could not find the cache! Further searching fortunately unearthed it (we really do not want DNFs today).
TFTC

01-Jan-16
Lovely spot and such a tricky cache. Tftc

30-Mar-15
Found this cache fairly quickly this time on my second attempt. Nice spot, worth the visit Smile

Cache all AOK and in position. The blurb was missing however ... as previous visitor BurnieBandit found. A good reminder to all geocachers to replace cache as found with all items inside! Big Grin

09-Mar-15
read through the previous logs and searched the area for a while with no luck.
However i did find a small piece of paper with the usual "congratulations you've found a geocache....." blurb on it amongst the leaf litter about 10m from GZ?? is it possible that this cache isn't so healthy anymore?

26-Dec-14
Found with Tassietigers, went up the wrong trail at first and required a bit of bundabashing through the bush to locate, the cache was well hidden and took me quite a lot of time to track down. Definitely saw it and moved on more than once before realising what I had seen

21-Dec-14
After quite a search, found the cache. Tip: take the trail from the playground. No sign of TB. TFTC

19-Oct-14
That’s one more find for me! Thanks so much for hiding this geocache.

10-Oct-14
Wow.. love this cave! Cache camo is great too. Thanks for the walk and TFTC

10-Oct-14
Wow, a very spacious cave for the discerning bushranger. Found after a bit of a scout about. TFTC

14-Sep-14
Found it we knew where the cave was, needed to search for about 5 minutes before we had the cache in hand. Thanks for the cache

23-Aug-14
The search here took us almost as long as the walk up as we poked & prodded anything within a 15m radius. Up on top too. The find turned out to have been spotted early in our search but ignored. There was evidence of fairly recent "human habitation" in the cave (plastic bags with don't know what in them as we're not game to touch, more fire lighting etc). The excellent camo was sitting within 5m of our GZ when eventually re-examined more closely.

27-Jul-14
Fairly quick find at 10:10 once I ignored GPS and used Geo senses instead. Awesome cave. TFTC

09-Jun-14
Cache zombified. Took the easier route... other way must be horrendous! Quick find at an amazing cave. Worth the journey. Cache and contents in good order. Tftc.

28-Apr-14
At first I thought cache had been muggled as prior hiding place was disrupted. It was found again quickly only a few feet from prior location at GZ

20-Apr-14
Tried again....still no luck. Going to need a hint I think. Great view with mist rolling in as we were leaving.

25-Oct-13
Finally found it! Excellent camo indeed but once I ignored GPS and followed geosense it was really obvious. iPhone GPS put me just to the left of cave but is still ~10m out! Visited with Oregon Caves TB but not leaving it here as it may be a while moving on given how rarely this one gets found. Gets a favourite from me cos it took three visits and technology abandonment to find!

23-Jun-13
Second time and still no luck. First time just geokids and we thought we could crack it with the team looking.

17-Mar-13
It was a pleasant walk up to this cave after the Greatest Shave GCA event. It took a short while to find this cache, as the GPS kept jumping around. I looked at the hide twice before realising that the hide matched the rock colour perfectly and I initially thought it was just another rock.

19-Nov-12
Found today, spent a fair bit of time looking, searched the same spot 3 times before finding it, nice camo! TNLN TFTC!

12-Oct-12
Great little cave, has had a good bit of recent use. Freshly cut firewood and evidence of recent occupation. TFTC.

05-Oct-12
Nice cave. Cache Guarded by scorpion, luckily had the courage to dispatch him.

26-Aug-12
Found while doing another nearby cache in an area not visited before. TFTC.

11-Mar-12
It took a little time to locate this one as the GPS was pointing to a slightly different spot. Sue spotted the cache a couple of metres to the north.
We took a marble and left a bird card.

This was an interesting area not visited before and the birds were also singing and plentiful. Thanks X&P

05-Feb-12
After my embarrassing experience with your other nearby cache I found this one relatively easily. All I had to do is fight off the mosquitoes around the cache, luckily the ones in the cave were entangled in spider webs.
Thanks for bringing me to another interesting spot.
TFTC

05-Jun-11
A great place to visit - another spot that I did not know about. Obviously well known by others though since there was a fire smoldering in the fireplace. Took a while to find the cache - impressed by the effectiveness of the simple cammo. TNLN. Really pleased to have been directed to the spot for the cache. Many thanks Xorg and Pixelwarrior.

26-May-11
Although I found the cave the GPS had me going around in circles, nice location for a rest.

26-Jan-11
Didn't find it the first time. Cave is interesting, with large chunks of sandstone that look like they just want to fall off. GPS had a few problems under the trees, but a proper search located it quickly on the second visit. Easy walk too, worth a short amble.

08-Dec-10
The cave was interesting - certainly a heavily used "hang out" for some people who, when they visit, must make themselves quite comfortable. GPS was bouncing around a little, but after a little searching the cache was in hand. TFTC

17-Mar-10
Continuing up and across the hill from a couple of other caches, I spotted the cave.
The cache search took me at least 10 minutes - the hide was great, but I spotted it as soon as I saw it - I had just been searching the wrong area.
TNLN
Thanks!

07-Feb-10
Wow - this was a hard one to find - not for the difficulty at all - more for the cammo - I was looking straight at it but couldn't see it! VERY IMPRESSED. The buzzie things kept me there looking....Great Hide.

07-Feb-10
After a long look we finally found this one. Not where we expected to find it. Good work CatWomanAU.

09-Jan-10
Nice camo left pencil as other broken

01-Nov-09
Nice camouflage

13-Oct-09
Hi to you both! Hadn't seen a sixpence in a long time until 1124hrs today when I found two, the one in the cache and the cave. This was my first of four finds for the day and my 204th find. Had some fun searching this one out as the TomTom doesn't like tall timber; guess that's what happens on the 13th of any month. Great cache, worth the visit. Went to find "Waterfall and?" but the weather prevented the effort - 13th again what? Thanks and cheers OldSaint

18-Sep-09
Beautiful day and recently inspired again after an absence from geocahing. Set myself a two cache amble through the bush. This cache the second for my day and I approached it from below and departed heading southish from above cave. Interesting location and very cunningly hidden. Took me a little while longer than I would have expected. TFTC.

10-Mar-09
I took the sixpence challenge and walked down the hill from the road above Smile
Surprisingly I fluked finding just the right trails to bring me right to the cave's door Big Grin
An interesting rock formation.
It's probably been used as a shelter for thousands of years.
I don't think the latest generation of users appreciate it though Sad
TFTC.

08-Feb-09
Our first cache of the day, to introduce our aunts and coiusings to the joy of geo- caching. Found quickly. TFTC!

Took Nothing Left Spottler TB

24-Jan-09
Found it. Sneaky hide! Hey, if you visit, there is a good path to this cache if you approach from the right direction. Worth a hunt for, save yourself some damage from some rather nasty gorse bushes in the vicinity.

23-Jan-09
I Love Caves! and this one does not disappoint!
Inventive Hide Even thought it tells you about it in the description. It also keeps the cache in Good condition.
We were escorted by the Cache Owners (Dont think that they told us where it is)
I cant wait to come down again and find some more of your caches!
Thanks Granny And Poppy (Xorg and Pixlewarrior) for the Great cache (and exercise)

14-Jan-09
Cool spot - I've been to this cave a couple of times whilst orienteering but never knew it had a name. Bit of a sneaky hide, noticed an out of place rock and looked behind it and saw noting cache-like. Turned around and did a double take.... that was a deceptive camo!
Thanks X&P for another interesting spot.

23-Oct-08
This was just the spot that I was loking for to have lunch.
There were a lot of animal tracks in the cave

THFC X&P

19-Oct-08
We approached from the wrong direction. It's always easier to see which way we should have come when we get there... We had a much easier walk back.
Interesting spot.
TNLN
Thanks for bring us here X&P.

01-Sep-08
What a walk, tried to be smart ended up going the long way, in the rain. Noticed when we got there we were only 50 odd meters from where we found another. Cave was great and an exciting place to find. Cache was a little bit of a challenge. TFTC

30-Aug-08
Continued to this cache after climbing Bill's Hill. Took me a while to find it - a bit of a sneaky hide! TNLN.

24-Aug-08
Nice easy find once R12 and I hung around ( inconspicuously !?! ) and waited for the muggle and his 2 little kids to leave. Love the camo. Very nice. TNLNSL.

09-Aug-08
With no map, not much time and only the clue scribbled on a ratty piece of paper I made a beeline with the gpsr arrow from the start of the pipeline track to the cave, I have always said its not a good bushwalk if there is no blood.... what a cool cave for a camp spot for a night

26-Jul-08
What a great little find this was! Took me a while to locate the cache, but learning to rely on instinct rather than exact GZ now...

TFTC, and a cool little cave.

12-Jul-08
Found on our second attempt. Our GPSr is all over the place in this area so it was a bit further from where we were looking last time. TNLN. TFTC X&P.

Today we replaced the old plastic bag which the cache container was wrapped in, with a small canvas bag which is EXACTLY the same colour as the sandstone. So now it will be more difficult to spot Twisted

06-Jul-08
We spent quite a bit of time searching for the cache but to no avail. This is obviously an area of high muggle activity so we wonder if the cache is still there. We will watch this cache and have another look if someone else finds it.

01-Jun-08
We wouldn't have found the cave without the cache. What a nice overhang. Thanks for the cache.
TNLN

04-May-08
Neat cave which looks like it is a popular spot. No one there today though so the cache was easy to find and log.
Great spot Thanks X & P

14-Apr-08
Found this one when I was Mrs Cheesy Pig. I have struck out on my own and am now logging the caches I found in my previous persona (but not the ones found only by Mr Cheesy Pig of course)! Let me know if you would like me to find it and log it again but under my new name.

14-Apr-08
We parked at the bottom of a hill ready for a big day of caching in the Waterworks...and what a great cache this one was!

We found it quickly, (Mr CP loved the sixpence, Mrs CP loved the "I am wrinkly" badge Big Grin ), and had a quick look around the area...but there were more caches to be found, so we took the tiny Tasmania badge and left an American flag magnet.

Thanks for an enjoyable cache X&P Smile

06-Apr-08
I think that now x&p must be the mountain gods or gods of the mountain as this is yet another fantastic spot.
We never read the cache page description and got a complete surprise in reaching the cave... I only wished that we had some sausages and billy with us as that would of finished the day of perfectly.
Well done X&P..TFTC.. cheers

04-Mar-08
Found with Senor el golco on a long walk in a lovely area.
What a great cave and with such with wonderful views!
Retrieved Horse Geeks TB and moved it on.
TNLN Thanks for this cache Xorg and Pixelwarrior.

23-Feb-08
What a great spot. I didn't know about this place and was very surprised to find it. I loved the lizard tracks that were all over the sandy ledge at the back. There were quite a few possible hiding spots for a small cache so it took us a little while but we got there eventually. TNLNSLAL (took nothing, left nothing, signed log, ate lunch!). TFBMH (thanks for bringing me here).

23-Feb-08
The drums! The drums! What do they all mean! It was kinda odd sitting up here eating our lunch, and hearing the sounds of drums close-by... I suggested to the others that they sounded like taiko drums (I know someone involved in this locally, who I believe has started up with it again after being OS; I'll have to ask her tomorrow if she was in the area!) If only they guided me better to the cache than my GPS did!

Finally found it, and after arriving home managed to remove (with the help of my good wife) the 8mm thorn embedded in my arm after a loose-rock slip up!

What a great spot... any idea where the name originated?

TFTC XaP!

Actually Pixelwarrior is heavily involved with that noisy Taiko lot and was partially responsible for what you heard SG3 - she was wondering if any of the cars around belonged to geocachers - Hope you didn't get caught in that downpour which caused us drummers to scramble and pack up in super fast time!!

23-Feb-08
After the stroll from "Pipe Graveyard" things got a little steeper. This is a spot I'd never been to before and it was quite amazing, thanks, I'll add it to my list of caves on the mountain. Enjoyed the atmosphere, and no, X&P, we'd finished our lunch and left before the deluge - a case of "drummed out", no doubt. TNLNSL.

17-Feb-08
Arrived home from six weeks in South America to find several geocoins patiently waiting for us to place them in caches (they came for a Canadian Sparks/Girl Guides unit)- so thought that we had better get to some of the numerous new caches that have appeared in the Hobart area during our absence. Chose this cache as it is newish and hopefully someone will move the coin on soon. Great spot. T bubbles, L Alexis's Horse Geeks geocoin and a frog photo magnet! Thanks for showing us this spot.

22-Jan-08
Picked a track and headed up...nice easy climb.Great spot...even a barbie in place. The first inhabitants never had it so good.Love these type of caches....cache well hidden and all ok.TFTEC X&P...Cheers.

15-Jan-08
After saving the Gold Cache extravaganza for some time, we decided to make a start today and were pleased to discover one of the intermediate caches roughly in the direction of this new cache, so off we went...

After giving the boys an extended lecture about looking out for snakes, we were seaching a bit more carefully than normal and after 10 minutes off playing GPSr ping pong around the rocks, the boys were getting restless so we broke out the hint. I was a bit disappointed that the hint was so general, but relieved that after finally looking *properly* in that spot we found the cache.

We liked finding the cache (and the BBQ!), and the nice touch in the lid of the container. Left bubble mix and glitter glue, took car and elephant. TFTC!

14-Jan-08
A very easy walk to a cave with its very own fireplace/bbq. Smile
A nice cool night and it was so still that voices could be heard from some distance away.
Thought they may have been caching and I had the camera ready to do “Spotto!†but they walked right past.

Great place for a cache Xorg and Pixelwarrior and thanks for putting new caches out for us slightly obsessed geocachers to find Red Face Welcome from red tag!

14-Jan-08
Attempted this one after the usual Haunting in the company of red tag. We decided that due to the lateness of the evening and the impending closure of the gates, that we should do a sweeping attack from the left flank, taking out any .......
That we should walk down from the top along the (mostly) bitumen road and across the front of the big structures to GZ.
Once we arrived, we started hearing voices and after 2 or 3 minutes, muggles appeared on the lower road. They were total oblivious to presence up at the cave.
We went searching and red tag found the cache after a little while.
Signed the log, took and left nothing. This is a great area, thanks for bringing me back Xorg and the Pixelwarrior.
Swampy

14-Jan-08
Another great cache. Nice walk and very good spot, first time we'd heard of it too! Took roughish, overgrown track straight up hill from a picnic spot to the cave. Thanks X & P.

14-Jan-08
Saw this one listed yesterday and was hoping for a FTF, seems I will have to be quicker off the mark in the future!
I never knew it was here, thanks to Xorg and Pixelwarrior for showing us all!
I came from the bottom and actually think it would be easier coming in from the top!
took nothing, left nothing.
tftc

13-Jan-08
Another FTF! I'm takin' 'em while I can get 'em because I sure don't get 'em very often. What a gem! Another fantastic location - how come we've never come across that cave before? Not even at that event when some of us traversed what I thought was every hill in the area! Thanks for the fabulous cache, X and P, coords were spot on too!!! Hooray for caching!!! (Came from above, and even that didn't take very long).
