Had a good hunt for this but to no avail. Felt pretty exposed here and when the boys in blue went past twice I decided to call it quits.

30-May-09
found it after moving what seemed like a whole quary TFTC

30-May-09
Yep had a hard time finding the cache until we shifted search to a more expose location. Very busy area on a Saturday Morning and the three of us hanging around waiting for a break in the traffic must have seemed suspicious.

23-May-09
Had to visit GZ twice due to many muggles. But found it easy and had to give the cache a short ride after the fire station came to live. But cache is back after a 10 minute tour to another cache.

07-May-09
Quiet area today, easy pick up. (#480,5/13)

21-Apr-09

30-Mar-09
Cache found easily, just had to be aware of muggles driving straight down the road. Now, who knows what a Farrier is?? well, kids? Thanks maranddeb

21-Mar-09
A quick find once all the passing cars had gone. There were no cars when I arrived but the minute I wanted to find the cache there was a steady stream of them.

17-Mar-09
Another hero from Amberley! We were the second visitors today.

17-Mar-09
Thanks! We left a guardian angel TB for the firemen nearby.

17-Mar-09
Just to advise that when we were second to call at the cache we picked up TB Guardian Angel, just couldn't log it till the drop-off log had been completed. At least a fireman (25yrs) collected it Smile.

11-Jan-09
This was an unexpected Amberly hero. I looked him up but didn't come up with much info. Owen Herbert Turner: Killed in action in Boer War in 1902. He was a father and family got a pension. Lucky bugers! Nice portrait on the other side of monument. Cache is in a pretty exposed spot. TY.

09-Jan-09
Not hard to find the cache, but retrieval was more the problem. Had to wait for the right time. Interesting piece of history. TFTC

09-Jan-09
My 125th cache and it's the last cache for the day... And what a long day it's been! Was quite well hidden for such a public spot Smile This is my last in my caching spree for a small while I'd be guessing since hubby goes back to work next week... 26 in 12 days Smile

Quick find, cache a bit exposed, tried to hide a bit better, unfortunately the cache is bigger than the rock.

07-Dec-08
Nice One!!!!!!!! Seemed to have picked up a few of your caches on our way home from the big smoke. Always enjoy these historical caches. Would like to see this memorial in the same area as the "other" memorial, so that more people would become aware of the price this young man paid. Thanks for the visit.

24-Nov-08
Fire Brigade drill going on made it fun. Git it sorted though. Thanks.

17-Nov-08
It is most unusual to find a monument of this particular war in New Zealand as we didn’t know that there were any soldiers from New Zealand that participated in the Boer war. Good to see the country honouring our heroes. Easy find TFTC TNLNSL (346)

13-Nov-08
Our first South Island cache! Arrived this morning from Auckland and headed up the road to Hanmer Springs in a VERY conpicuous Wicked campervan painted all over with Jellybeans!
People were so busy looking at the van that they sisn't see what we were up to when retrieving the cache.
TFTC

11-Oct-08
A quick tourist camera maneuver and the task was completed in a couple of seconds Big Grin TFTC!

01-Oct-08
Two of us walked the street for the cache and others went in car, they jumped out and got as we were walking with gps. Watchful muggle at nearby house window. Interesting history. TFTC

21-Sep-08
One of those times where the GPS is good that it looks like a mobile phone lol with a bored husband walking in circles Smile Nice to get this one done !!! thanks for the cache

21-Sep-08
Last time here was too many muggles so had to leave. has been bugging me and is good to get cache done Smile

14-Sep-08
No joy - very exposed spot and far too much traffic on such a nice afternoon. I couldn't even begin to look for it. Never mind, I'll just have to come back on a wet day...or maybe at night?

06-Sep-08
An easy find, great place for a cache, found with dad on fathers day, heading home after our train trip through the weka pass.
TFTC, cheers.

31-Aug-08
I found this cache a few weeks ago but just forgot to log it so here it is. Thanks for the cache. Bo

19-Aug-08
What a very public spot. I think the people in the nearby house were out this time. This was our 2nd try, the first was hampered by someone sitting by the window watching.
Cache is nice & dry
I picked up the Travel Slug geocoin
TFTC

17-Aug-08
I was expecting the more well known hero to be here, but no, it was another altogether. No one in the house luckily and not much happening on a Sunday morning, so a quick find. TNLN Thanks.

17-Aug-08
Found it! TFTC! Left CG.

I was there at 7am on a sunday, in the rain. Obviously nobody around, however after I had the cache out and filled in the logbook and a muggle across the road (in their house) noticed me, and kept their eye on me, so they saw me put it back. Hope nothing comes of that.

16-Aug-08
Eventually found this one but only after I decided to let the GPS do the work instead of relying on my brain. Took blue stone, left souvenir clippers. I also replaced the pen Smile Nana_Mac

02-Aug-08
Our second ever find! Found it today, right after finding "Look Right Upham". Quite a busy corner, lots of inquisitive muggles, including those walking their dogs. We're off on a trip in the foreseeable future - if the travel coin is still there hopefully we can take it along to a different country Surprised)

19-Jul-08
A quick drop in on the way to Hanmer for the weekend. Even harder to be subtle with one older, and three younger boys hunting. As others have said - thankfully it's an easy find. +Coin. Thanks.

13-Jul-08
Wow, this is a very busy corner even on a Sunday afternoon. Never saw any of those helpful cats that could have acted as an excuse as I searched Sad but I managed to find the cache pretty quickly and the nearby seat provided a nice spot to fill in the log. T4TC.

Had to hunt very subtly, lucky it was an easy find.
TFTC

22-Jun-08
Quick find, but the owner of the nearby house was out gardening so had to be quick.

02-Jun-08
A quick find. The local cats were a good subterfuge. Been here many times but never really noticed the memorial before. TFTC

02-Jun-08
Easy find, but a bit busy, so we used the same cat as subterfuge. It must have been very puzzled about this human behaviour! Took the TB and will place it nearer to Chch. TFTC.

02-Jun-08
We parked and then a guard cat that was guarding the gate jumped on top of our car. Then when we were getting the cache it was jumping on me and purring a lot as I was stroking it. What a weird cat.TFTC TNLN thanks

31-May-08
No sign of any guard cats - could have done with one as several muggles drove past. So we did the taking photos thing instead. Cache was open and a bit jammed full with stuff. We left the TB as we suspected it was on a special mission, and didn't know where it needed to be, and re-organised the other stuff a little.
- toy car, rock
+ mini puzzle

25-Apr-08
Quick easy find today (unlike when I was being watched by the neighbouring house at my last attempt). Timely visit being ANZAC day and all. Cheers Gav [2146]

25-Apr-08
A very quick find. TFTC.

25-Apr-08
+ 2 TBs

Another piece of history we didn't know existed. Quich find.
TFTC

24-Apr-08
Very busy corner. Must've walked past the stone a few times before we managed to "see" it ... duh ... Cool Did this one on the way to rellies place. Grand-daughter took a wee ball and left a wee car.

20-Apr-08
Proved to be a quick find. People from all over NZ have always gone to battle.

29-Mar-08
I'm sure we must have looked very suspicious to all the traffic going past. We'd like to say it was a quick find, but it wasn't! B had decided it clearly couldn't be there anymore, at which point J did her typical thing, and found it. Phew! TNLN, TFTC.

25-Mar-08
A bit hard to be stealthy in a open place like this lucky for me it was very quite when I was their Smile

25-Mar-08
found it found it. placed a travel bug. (TB 522135)

24-Mar-08
Very exposed spot, but managed to find it in spite of muggles. TFTC

23-Mar-08
Strange how they place monuments where few actually walk past and pause. This one encourages you not to stop. So geocachers look weird indeed. Thanks for the encouragement to stop and pause.

22-Mar-08
A quick find but not that stealthy in the middle of the road with a bright orange note book. An added challenge, thanks.

21-Mar-08
Found enroute to the Moneydork's Easter Event. TFTC. Nice easy find.

21-Mar-08
3.20pm. We seem to be following the organist today. Smile
Quick find, thanks for bringing us here.
+ domino
- nil

Cheers M+S [:o)] (1016)

09-Mar-08
Found with Wilson#41.
Bit of an unexpected place to find a monument... Smile

09-Mar-08
Another easy find with Kwaka40 after scouring GZ.. A lot of traffic going past, also had a family appear just as we were trying to hide the cache... wondered if they were up to the same thing, but they looked at the monument and drove off after we left.
Number 18 of 35 for me this weekend!
TNLN

2048. We felt rather exposed searching for this cache as it took a while with the GPS trying to send us in the wrong direction. Just as we spotted a likely place a lady appeared out of a nearby house to ask if we were all right. We assured her that we were fine and just on a bit of a treasure hunt. She seemed to be happy with that and went back indoors, leaving us to pick up and log the cache.

We took the lovely mini coin with us.

Thanks
Iris & Rodney

29-Feb-08
Geocoin code found now logging into cache.

23-Feb-08
First cache on a day of 12 finds between Christchurch and Takaka. The cache location was soon quite obvious, but nearby muggles made it rather difficult. I hope they didn't think I was "loitering with intent". No time for swaps, thanks and cheers from Grandalf(1075)

22-Feb-08
Easy to find then a quick dash to the car to write up the log between traffic passing by. Exchanged geocoins. Unfortunately the code I wote down appears to be incorrect so the next person may have to snatch it from a previous cache.

17-Feb-08
GPSr had me wandering about a bit, is it or isn't it? I was thinking. Bit of stealth needed here.
No trades, TFTC.

16-Feb-08
DNF. Looked for a few minutes before heading to the car because of the rain.

11-Feb-08
Nice wee corner of town Smile Good to see a decent sized cache in a place that most would only place a micro, good show [^] TFTC

+ Geocoin (Picked up in Cheviot 40min ago)
+ Pen (Since the cache was missing a writing implement)

10-Feb-08
Yeh! - My FTF. Getting an FTF can be hard when keen cachers are out midweek during the day when I'm at work. Hmmm might have to change to night shift. TFTC

- yellow whistle
+ painted rock
