With so much work happening in this area due to the new rail line and bridge about to be built this cache is being archived. I may resurrect it some time in the future.

After spending a lot of time in the Bayside area recently, Burge and I decided it was time to head back around Melbourne's West to pick up some of the newer caches in the area (and some of the older ones we haven't had a chance to get to!). We were targeting traditionals and this was DNF number 1 for the evening on a night that produced nearly as many DNF's as it did finds!

When we got to GZ around 22:05 we thought this woudn't be a difficult one but we were wrong! We had a bit of a search around but there were voices on the other side of the fence and we didn't want to make too much noise. We decided to give up after about 10 minutes and will return another day to give it another go.

30-Sep-12
Quick find after finishing the CCT-8 waypoints. I'll be back in the area to go for the cache location. TFTC

Left swap but did not take the puss in boots

23-Aug-12
FTF in its new location. ...I know ....I hear ya' .
I picked this one up on my way home from work. The new location is much more accessible.
It's an interesting old industrial area around here and bridge is a beauty on its own.
I've ridden under it many times on the deadly treadly!

Was sad not to add a smilie to this one. Rode up to the spot, read the hint, saw the tree and the pile of rocks. Grabbed biro, moved rocks - no cache. Felt in base of tree, no cache. So sadly this becomes a DNF and certainly needs to be checked out.

20-Jul-12
Great spot but no joy on finding it. I think I found the spot where it might have been. May pay to check the cache. Thanks all the same.

Out'n'about with covert.
Awesome to be able see this spectacular structure up close. Almost inviting to move in closer towards it.Razz Cache was quickly pickup and returned with extra camo..... found somewhat exposed.

Thx for the hide vp4

Took a day out with Kellyhuants to go a grab a few caches. This area seems to be an area we have both not cached in.

Parked as close as we thought we were able to near GZ and started wandering down the path only to quickly discover we were on the wrong side!! Fortunately, there was another bridge nearby so we doubled back and were soon on the right side and going the right way...

On approach to GZ we noticed the enormous temple and statue looming in the distance (the Heavenly Queen Temple, as google now tells me - which is something I'd never heard about before but which obviously has it fair share of followers!). Passed a few photographers taking very serious photos of odd bits of infrastructure before finally getting to GZ and immediately spotting a rather exposed cache, but still safe it seems.

On our walk back we also noticed the aforementioned dog tiles along the path which added a bit of whimsy and mystery to the walk along the maribyrnong... Thanks for giving us an excuse for this bit of an adventure and seeing some things we'd never have spotted otherwise!

TFTC.

Nice spot, enjoyed the bridge and the temple. TFTC!

31/03/2012 16:29 After two earlier caches and a geocoin collection I wanted to get this one for the TB listed but sadly saw no TB here at all. Drove close to GZ via an old train line! Luckily the tracks had been removed. Parked near a Chinese garden and building. Walked down toward GZ via a track and came out on a proper bike track. GZ was rather exposed so the find was simple and I noted that the cache wasn't even hidden but the remains of the paint make it safe-ish from passing muggles. Signed the log and checked the box for any TB but saw nothing. Hopefully it is in someone's hands and they merely forgot to log it. TFTC vp4 TNLN SL

Got to my friend vinnie s place a little early today, so went for a stroll to get some caches local to him! The area around my place is running dry Smile this was nice and straight forward. Quick trip over the pedestrian bridge from his house on a nice warm evening.

After finding the last of RodHelena's caches today, I looked for other quick traditionals in the general vicinity and came up with this one. Unfortunately time ran short and I had to make this one the last find for today before a scheduled appointment. Easy find but I had to take a second to shake all the creeping crawlies and bugs off the container - they've certainly made this spot home. TFTC vp4. Smile

Nice spot. Easy find with Vicki.

Found it! Nice and easy and muggle free!

04-Dec-11
Suscoe journeyed her on a lovely morning, nice bit of sun and not many walkers.
Arrived at GZ and a quick find was made.
Appreciated the structure.
Also admired the statue nearby and the muggle builders working on the larnge building. it seems like this has been a long process.
On the way back we noticed a series of mini plaques on the bridge foundations, telling the story of what appeared to be a much loved dog.
We wondered what the whole story may have been?
Anyway a big thank you to vp4 for yet another interesting cache.

01-Nov-11
We were cycling along the river trail when we spotted the cache on the GPS. Found it quickly enough without even reading the description. We couldn't even log the find with the mobile phone because of our proximity to Flemington on Melbourne Cup day. The mobile network must be congested. Anyway, it was a pleasant find on a generally lovely day. Thanks for the cache.

02-Oct-11
2/10/11 1:59 PM Find #481 - I was nearby waiting for RACV to help me back into my car. Lesson learnt, don't be a doofus and close the boot while the key is in there. So a bit of a walk and here I am, cache in hand. I found the cache a bit exposed and not containing the Devils Haircut TB which I'm hoping one of the previous finders from 20/9 has picked up and not logged. This time around the cache was exposed but I've added more camo which hopefully has secured it. There's a good view of the bridge from here. TFTC.

Beautiful walk with Team Oresum along the river. Cache was easy to find, took nothing but left a picture magnet.

TFTC! Cities of Gold and I enjoyed a lovely walk at lunchtime to a spot I've passed thousands of times without realizing there was more treasure than seeing the awesome golden statue up close. Left a picture magnet.

23-Aug-11
Met up with trailrunning and tagged along for his usual monday night caching run. Had a pretty good start with a find every 5 mins. It was quite a walk to GZ, driving past the shipping containers and a newly built temple. Cache was not hidden very well so we had to give it more of a camo to avoid it from being muggled easily. TFTC:)

22-Aug-11
It's a warm Monday night and a great night for caching. jsmyong55 and I met up at around 5:30 at Swinburne for run on the other side of the Westgate Bridge. We had a good run at the start with about 6 finds in half an hour, but slowed from there for various reasons. All in all a good few hours. We drove as far as we could without driving on the railway lines and trotted off to where the cache was located. We got the approach all wrong and finally got there. The cache was poorly re-hidden so when we replaced it back we made sure it could not be seen. As we were walking out we were approached by two bounding dogs, who seemed to have lost their owners, but through the darkness we could just make them out. Our return to the car was more direct. thanks vp4.

Nice walk to cache, good view of big temple near by being built. Good old bridge and soon located the cache. SL TFTC

31-Jul-11
Could see the cache but couldn't sign the log due to muggles fishing. Great bike path. After going ahead to find some other caches we were able to circle back and sign off the log sheet late in the day. TFTC

TFTC, good to get out and explore the area!

23-Jul-11
Its a lovely ride along here. And the golden lady looks better from this side, rather than the train. Thanks vp4

09-Jul-11
Excellent work! Takes you to a lovely spot most people wouldn't know existed. Found myself on the wrong side of the river so scrambled up and actually walked across the coathanger after carefully looking for trains - bad boy!!

It will be interesting to see where your cache ends up after a big flood - perhaps you should put a "ring this number/message in a bottle scenario" in case the cache floats away in future. TFTC Smile

What a lovely walk! Cool cache, took a bouncy ball, left a goldfish.

25-Jun-11
Thanks for the cache

12-Jun-11
I found the road in to this cache that got me within metres of GZ. However, I did have to ford a body of water for around 30 metres. Luckily it was not too deep. I don't know whether that section is always under water or just after rain. (Maps and satellites don't show it, so I presume it's just temporary).

I grabbed the cache in between the odd cyclist and walker. Interesting temple and huge statue nearby. Thanks for bringing me here and for the cache.

03-Jun-11
A pleasant walk through a relatively newly developed park. The walking trail was quite busy and the huge statue was completely unexpected. Wouldn't want to wander through this park in snake season! Straight forward find. T4PlacingThisC

Great walk out along the river.
Found the cache easily as it wasn't well covered.
Had a close encounter with a redback spider living in the lid clips.
SL, TNLN, and stashed it back, covering it well.
The temple is a great sight, would be interested in seeing it finished.
Had Monkey Tripper TB with me.

Having regularly taken the train from Ballarat to Melbourne, we always pass by the area and never have actually had the chance to visit this location. Today in the area for a days caching was the perfect opportunity to take the time to visit the location. Perfect views from the bridge not to far from here across to Flemington racecourse and back towards the city.
TNLN SL Thanks vp4 for the cache

One of 36 finds for the night while out caching with my good friend Blacklegend (Marshy). We tried this cache a while ago but couldnt get to GZ as we had approached from the opposite side. This time we parked near the walk bridge and made our way over then along the track to GZ where we soon had the cache in hand. Some more unfinished business completed for the night. Thanks for the hide.

09-Mar-11
One of 33 for another day/night caching run with my good caching mate Marty (Quasar3671). Last one for the night portion of the run. We tried this one some months back but could not work out how to get to GZ. Got it this time, approach from the other side... The asian temple/building is bizarre just sitting there in a very underdeveloped area. TFTC.

#5 Cool spot. Long live the queen...and her gold

03-Jan-11
Now this was an interesting part of Melbourne! Or was I in China for a little while there?? Amazing!! I think the coat hanger might be eclipsed by the gold statue and impressive building. T4TC Most memorable of the day over this side of town!

30-Nov-10
Not a good start for this one, as after a pleasant stroll in the sun, we realised we were on the wrong side of the river! Duh!

Met a local who was full of information about the history of the area.and who gave us a little insight into the Buddhist temple and statue.

Returned to the correct side of the river for a quick find.

This was the first of 11 finds for the day with Team BAPHA on a wet and rainy bike ride along the maribyrnong river and on to williamstown. An easy find near a new temple on the river with an impressive stature looking out towards the bay. Cute coathanger bridge, too. TFTC!

Team BAPHA found this on an excellent day of geocaching, setting a new team record of 11 caches found in one day. This one is nice, but way too easy!

It was a nice afternoon for a walk, I crossed over at the old stock bridge and headed south. I wasn't the only one who thought it was nice for a walk, or a jog, or a bike ride, after signing the log it took me over 20 minutes to get a quiet moment to put the cache back! TNLN, TFTC.

Tried from the south but road was very mucky so went to the north & rugged up for a little walk across the bridge. in the rain.

Sad to see my 2008 bronze Kiwi Coin is not in the cache- it has been taken but not logged. Guess- as in all other walks of life- not all cachers, or muggles maybe, have scruples......

01-Aug-10
After trying to take the cacherolla where it shouldn't go (again) We opted totry from another direction.
Parking a short distance away and rugging up against the cold, We walked the path and soon found the cache.
42below was disappointed to find that her geocoin had really vanished. Lets hope it turns up somewhere.
Some great views from here.

A relatively easy cache at night, although I did look at the hint. Nice one, and an awesome bridge.

Alas, no coin! Sad

21-Jun-10
The wife and I place a very nice Kiwi Copper Geocoin in this cache at the end of April.
The cache has been visited many times since then and no one has mentioned it or logged this coin.
So has someone nicked it.. and wants to keep it or what..
It sux that people steal coins.
It is getting so hard to find and move around nice coins around these days..
Cos peolpe steal anything thats not nailed down..
So has this hobbie gone to the dogs too. Like everthing else in this world.

Another find while enjoying a bike ride with the family. There are 2 other interesting new landmarks to view from this spot.

12-Jun-10
It was a particularly cold walk around from where the car was parked and out here today this area seemed pretty lonely. The only sparkle was the giant golden statue that overlooks the cache site - and it looks a little out of place here too. I can't say I share the same love of the bridge as the cache owner and when travelling on the train I still tend to take it a little for granted. I do prefer the bridge a little way further up the river that carries the motor traffic (kind of art deco). The cache looked a little lonely and empty too so I added an Aussie fridge magnet to warm it up a little. TFTC.

By happy chance I found myself plodding along the River to exploit my photography hobby when I recalled a Cache hidden near the impressive Railway Bridge that crosses not far from the old Saleyards. Fortunately, the co-ordinates were in the Plodder's GPSr and in the late afternoon I came upon this Cache hidden by 'vp4'. I was more than surprised at the transformation taking place along the River from Flemington Racecourse toward Yarraville. It was not a pretty place in my childhood all those many years ago. I do recall Trains coming along the line that runs parallel with the River - I must be old! Terrific to see the Buddhist Temple and Statue under construction not far from the Cache too. An enjoyable Cache to walk to and find, with excellent views of the Railway Bridge and the sweep of the River. It was an education see these parts after many absent years. Thank you to 'vp4' for the Cache. TNLN. TQP

Found @ 2225.

Found with ggkof whilst out caching on a Tuesday night. After a very bumpy and muddy drive to the temple, we made our way across the waste ground to GZ. By the time we got back to the car, we were several inches taller due to the mud on the soles of our shoes!

1915:. While A+ street orienteered from the nearby park her friend Alison and I strolled the Maribyrnong river bank. I regaled her with highlights of my recent geocaching experience Smile Found the stock bridge mural as in the photo gallery and marvelled at the giant gold Buddha and new temple where there had been waste ground when we lived here 5 years ago. Alison spotted the hide and after discreetly retrieving and recaching the container we wandered back for our bbq. Finished up at 2130 'twas such a pleasant evening. Thanks vp4.

nice bridge to take a look at, travelled over it many times going to uni, but you dont recognise it when your on the train. When trying to get to the cache there were a couple of people doing some paintings of the burnt out car in the spill way. Being in footscray it gave me a laugh. left mini dice

30-Jan-10
Took us two tries to grab hold of this cache and log it this afternoon.
Two cars were parked right next door to the cache and were set in for fishing for the evening.
Decided we'd try to find another local one I hadn't found yet, and have dinner and return later on in the evening.
Once we'd returned the cache was in hand and returned to its hiding spot within 5 minutes.
Thanks vp4 for this cache.

We had a great time walking the path along the river, with several caches to attract interest. The temple will also be impressive when complete. Thanks.
