Going for a hike I got the perfect weather, slightly cloudy and perfect temperature. I made the wallowa and the stringybark hike and enjoyed so much nature. I got the chance to see, and more hear, a lot of birds, some rabbits and, very special for me, wild kangaroos. Only by reading some old logs I found out that this is an old cache. Thank you very much for maintaining it.Cache in good condition.TFTCHbste

I wanted to do some bird watching in Kaiser Stuhl Conservation Park and pick up a few caches along the way. On the bird front, scarlet robins, eastern spinebills, western whistlers, little ravens, white fronted tree creepers, yellow faced honeyeaters and new holland honey eaters featured. On the cache front, eight caches were sought (including this one) and eight were found (including this one). On the way home, being in the area, a platter and glass of shiraz was had at Grant Burge Wines. Glorious weather for the Kings Birthday. FP for cache age, location and original log (which was good to read through). TFTC

Visited just after dawn - very chilly, about 6 degrees (2 degrees down in the valley). Bumped into a party of a dozen or so kangaroos while walking to the cache. Nice quick find and the cache was in excellent condition- just as you'd expect for an ammo can. TFTC.

Up early and headed north from Adelaide to near Tanunda, where we travelled up to the oldie cache , Barossa High.. Parked the car under shade, and walked the remainder of the way to GZ. Arrived at GZ and in no time found the cache with the original Log Bokk still going. Great to see this old cache still going. TFTC alex

GC197 Barossa HighA group of us are down from Darwin and Brisbane for the leap year mega event. This is my last full day in Adelaide so we decided to tackle all those grapes we had solved and pick up various other caches in the area. To save space in the logs we have signed as BOLD7. Was meant to be BDLD7 but something got lost in translation. However 2 more have joined our team. So BOLD9 today it is.I have had a great time caching down here and will need to return with the family to explore the area (& caches) some more. Thanks for keeping this oldie going. TFTC alex

The Leap Day Mega was a great excuse to come down from Queensland and weve had a busy time exploring Adelaide and surrounds cache by cache. Meeting up with friends old and new, we sometimes cached with them and sometimes alone but always had a great time. Although I have been to Adelaide before, this trip has shown me so many new and interesting places as Ive chased LGAs, oldies, challenges, interesting D/T combinations, rarer cache types and favourites. Thanks to all COs for placing and maintaining these caches for everyone to enjoy.

01-Mar-24
We attempted to drive to GZ as the gate was open, but about 50m in it wasn't looking good for the 2WD vehicle, and the car was abandoned. The walk to GZ was pleasant, and we quickly found the cache. It's nice to see these oldies still in circulation. I wonder if the remote location helps them survive for so long. Cheers for the cache and the ongoing maintenance - cache logged as the BOLD9 to save space.

Oh My, not sure what day number this is cache wise nor what caches I did yesterday, we have been caching for a while and the days and the caches seem to run into each other now. We started early today and had the Grapes geoart in mind, along with some special caches as we passed. It will be nice to hopefully have another art completed without any holes. To save space on log sheets we signed as BOLD 9. I like this area and the caches were different in parts. Some nice puzzles to solve and some good placements. We thought we were going to be short on one cache but we ended up finding the bison on the ground. A quick tie up and all good to go. Thanks for the caches and the hides, sorry for the generic logs.

01-Mar-24
RoamingHowie, OzHockeyChick, Geoturtle37 and myself set off today to find some high scoring favourites with the Barossa Trail as our main target for the day.We managed to complete the Barossa Trail and still had a couple of caches we wanted to do so here we are. We were lucky that it wasn't yet dark but not far from it. This one had a nice amount of favourites and was old so various reasons for having it on our list. Thanks for bringing us here with this cache.

01-Mar-24
I am so pleased that we still had some daylight when we finished the Barossa Trail as this area was next on our list. It is spectacular up here. Thank you for bringing us to this location and for maintaining the cache for so long. A definite favourite.

How very exciting the big trip has finally arrived! Down from Brisbane with a host of other geo friends with plans aplenty, enough to almost see us needing to extend or make a return visit. Our geonick for the trip is BOLD9 which is guaranteed to save the log paper for the 9 individual members of the team. As we make our way around sadly there wont be time for the usual individual logs and therefore just the old generic log will have to do. With little extra notes here and there if needed. Thank you for your cache which has added to my wonderful caching holiday.

Im currently on the great novo Leap Day road trip of 2024 which starts in the north east of VIC and heads to Mildura via Echuca and Swan Hill, then on into SA through the Riverland and Barossa before heading to Adelaide for [The Leap Day event](https://coord.info/GL1BKDZBZ), and then the Adelaide Hills and greater ADL area for some cache cherry-picking before heading south to Millicent via the Fleurieu Peninsula. This is probably the biggest geocaching road trip I have undertaken to date with around 200 finds planned!Continuing westward to Nuriootpa for some of the Barossa puzzles now after completing my finds of the gratuitous Bike series out in the desert, before ultimately making my way into ADL for the evening in readiness for what is going to be a big day on Thursday for leap day. I had to stop by up here to find this here stash before moving on too far. I was able to drive all the way up to the parking and, in fact, the gate to the reserve was even open but not only did it not feel right to drive in, I needed the walk anyway as I haven't done a "hike" in weeks and tomorrow morning I have a big morning stroll planned in the ADL hills so it was nice to use the legs to get to a cache for once. At GZ the typical stash hide was made where I enjoyed flipping back thru the logbook before adding my own siggie to the sacred collection. I also dipped our [novo Jasmer coin](https://coord.info/TB7AXHF) to make it three finds now of this particular hidden month. There's something special about these retro hides. TFTC, alex.#1840

The last of our target caches and LGAs before caching in and around Adelaide before the Mega.

Great to get another of the oldest 20 still active in Australia. This makes number 10 from that list for me. And so good to find an original log in such an old cache. Found in our group of six Queenslanders unsupervised in Radelaide mega'ing while travelling in the Venga Bus which struggled up the steep dirt road. All logs signed or stamped as SQUIRM. Thanks for the cache alex

Today was another JAMS (JJ52, allister w, mogni, sir_spectre) day along with Mrs travellinbees and GTA5 with a few targeted caches out north and any others that we happened to be driving past. A fun day out in the sunshine driving on some great tracks on a perfect day for caching. This old cache was one of our targets for the day and we enjoyed the drive up the hill with some pretty cool views. Parked at the end of the road and headed off to GZ for a quick find. Thanks for the cache alex and a favourite for this oldie. Smile

19-Nov-23
one of the Target caches of the day, 2001 cache and also a " non chosen " cache size. Took the 400 meter walk from the gate to the cache, no snakes seen expect the one on the road driving here. Quick find.Today was a JAMS ( JJ52, Allister W, Mogni, Mitchell&hound plus Sir_spectre ) day out. Mitchell&hound is off on a 732 day holiday so she didn't join us. We picked up the travellinbees and GTA5 and they followed us in their own car. Today's targets were a 2001 cache and a cache on this date ( the 19th ) of a " not chosen " size 6 out of 31 days to go and also a high terrain cache using a 6.2 meter in a creek with water following in it and a few pirate project caches. I think we replaced 1/4 of the log sheets to day since there were wet or full plus replaced a few broken containers.

After a beauty of a thunderstorm last night was dreading the dirt road to this oldie. It was, should’ve chased it yesterday arvo!! But with a day of wineing planned it was this morning or nothing.

As this was one of my target caches that were ‘must gets’ on this Sth Aust voyage, set the now dirty hire car on its way.

Great views on the way to the cache and well worth the drive. Thanx Alex et all for keeping this oldie active.

Slowly made our way up the hill along the winding road in the car and parked at the gate and walked the last few hundred meters to the cache.
Spot on coordinates made for a quick find at GZ and I was stoked to find an original log book still in place.
Spent a couple of minutes reading through some old logs before adding our names to the log and heading on our way.

Today was planned around heading out to Nuriootpa to grab some supplies to take back home to WA.
I put together a list of some highly recommended caches that took us through Gawler & Bethany before heading back to the city.
Although we weren’t able to grab everything on the list we were very amazed at the quality of the caches we found.

Came to Adelaide with the intent of grabbing this one and at 1pm I had cache in hand. So glad I didn’t have to trespass to get this one as it is on a nice well marked trail. Grabbing this one for jasmer grid. Worthy of an FP because it’s an awesome type of cache in an awesome spot. Thanks! TFTC

Old caches were on the agenda for this trip and have now done a few of Alex’s caches - just a tad late logging. Bingo bango! Third day in SA and out on trusty treadles aka my mtb to explore the trails and surroundings. I’ve learnt theRE are plenty of quality SA caches - plenty to pique the curiosity and anticipation of another surprise or fun cache. Happy and relieved to record no DNF’s today and on average most were located ‘relatively’ quickly. TFTC AND THE FUN and the effort to contribute to this fun game! What a great feeling to glance through the old logbook. And a fave for longevity. Thanks alex

Another of the very very old caches that were on our list to do this trip

The log book was amazing and the cache was in very good condition. This is a true geocaching experience

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Early in 2021 I received an invite from GoosenEgg and Stainless Steel Rat to join them on a caching trip to the Mega in South Australia. As planning got underway some caches with high Favorite points, very old caches, and the On Your Bike Series were listed as "must-dos"

The trip ended up being 10 days of solid and very enjoyable caching with quite a few highlights. The find count for the trip was around the 950 mark when all GCA, Adventure Lab, and GC caches are included. The high point for finds was a day of 335 finds in the one day, which would have been more, but a sudden storm put the end to caching for the day. No one was interested in getting out of the car to find a cache in a downpour in the dark Smile

We were lucky enough to find Gawler Fort Knox, Dustin's Cache, and my favorite for the trip Barossa High (From 21st of January 2001 with the original log book still in place) all in the one day.

Unfortunately, the caching around the mega was beset by bad weather and the day we had put aside for Mount Gambier was scrapped due to a covid case in Mount Gambier on the previous day, so we avoided the area. We all enjoyed the Fishing series and just managed to get the remaining of these before the light failed for the day.

In the end I managed to completed my D/T grid for the first (and possibly the second time) which was my aim for the year, although some of the D/T combinations were not really achievable in Tasmania without a 3 day overnight bush walk.

Old caches were on our hitlist for this trip and this COs name popped up a few times. This was the last cache of the day and certainly a highlight. It was a treat to flip through the old logbook and for the hide to be such a great container.
I've handed out a few favourite points today and here goes another one.....
Thanks alex

The Millicent Mega trip had been a long time in the making, for the Tassie trio of stainless steel rat, budgietas and gooseandegg, due to a couple of false starts thanks to COVID19. More and more caches were added to the extensive list as planning was being finalized. We focused on old caches, large caches, certain D/Ts, virtual caches, the On your Bike series and a few other special ones on our journey. Our route saw us caching in Adelaide for a few days before heading north via Gawler to the Barossa in preparation for the On your Bike series, whilst basing ourselves at a gorgeous cottage in Waikerie. We continued on to Renmark for a night before the long trek south to Millicent.
Some of the many highlights along the way were Gawler Fort Knox, Dustin’s Cache, Barossa High and Riverland (the oldest surviving geocache in South Australia).
At the Mega we caught up with a few of our caching friends, made some new ones, and of course missed many who could not make it this time. The weather was not the best in Millicent, and a COVID19 situation in Mt Gambier altered our plans but we had plenty of caches to keep us busy between showers, including tree climbs, plenty of adventure labs, and the entertaining Finding a Fish series - giving the new pole a good workout for the first time.
Thanks to all the CO’s who have placed and maintained all these caches that made our adventure so memorable.

If we hadn't just found two amazing caches today i would say this was the highlight and on any normal day it would be, i have a soft spot for old caches and this is old and it a great location and has the original logbook in it etc etc etc, thanks to the CO and local community for keeping this cache alive.

Today we drove to the North and then Northeast of Adelaide to collect some interesting caches we had highlighted from out must do list while still in Tassie, after that it will be the On Your Bike series.

Even with the numbers being down it was great to attend a Mega and at least get to meet some fellow cachers after so long and catch up with a few people, we flew over from Tassie on Thursday and after spending a few days in Adelaide we headed Northeast to clean up some series and then head South to Millicent for the start of the Mega long weekend.

This trip has changed so many times since it was first booked and I'm glad we got to do it at long last, to start with it was just myself and GooseandEgg nipping over for the Mega and then it was a few more days with the addition of 1 toolman, then with lockdown it was back to two of us but then another Tassie cacher in the shape of BudgieTas stepped up to the plate and we were back on for an over a week trip to grab a few caches before the Mega and then finish off with Millicent before flying home on the Tuesday.

Thanks for the cache.

This cache has been on my target list for quite some time, as I am slowly trying to find the first 10 caches in SA, only 1 to go now.
I parked down the track and made my way up here. Found the cache easily enough and was amazed to see the Original log book, had a read through and some interesting history here that’s for sure.

Today I decided to head to Kaiserstuhl Conservation Reserve for a walk around and collect a few caches. Besides finding a few caches on my way there and back home a nice walk around the reserve and roughly 9km walked up and down hills. Although the area isn’t recommended in Summer the weather held off and a nice day out with 33 finds in total.

Thanks for the cache

Time for a Wednesday wander with other members of the befuddled group of puzzle solvers. Today's target was the Kaiserstuhl Conservation Park for a nice walk. Razz We certainly under guesstimated how big this park was and didn't get ot the caches we wanted so we will have to come back. Surprised

A nice quick find as we walked up the trail to the park entrance. Smile There was a big news conference as the government had recently purchased all the land nearby to enlarge the park. [^]
Our target cache was now in a direct line over the newly purchased land but we wanted to get some of the others in the park first. Wink

We then detoured through a few geocaches around Gawler like the Meat Trail series, before I met with jesswrigley, and we took a drive through the wine country through Lyndoch finding a few oldie geocaches, and enjoying some wine tasting. We ended up calling through Tanunda for a bakery lunch, before closing out our day with some small walks/hiking in Kaiserstuhl Conservation Park, finding one of South Australia's oldest caches *Barossa High* as well as a few other older caches. A nice day to be out and about before we start seeing serious COVID-19 travel restrictions take effect.

I hadn't realised how old this one was until we started walking to it. Wow, one of the oldest geocaches in South Australia - a 01/2001 hidden oldie! Once we got to GZ, the cache didn't take long to find, and it was also really cool to see the original logbook still in here! We flicked through to some of the earlier logs and read their adventures. A really cool area, and we enjoyed walking around the conservation park (although we didn't realise that you could drive a lot closer to even make this cache a driveby!). The geocache container (a nice ammo can) and logbook were in good shape. I took the TB to move on on its travels. Thanks Alex for the geocache placement, and ongoing maintenance efforts! Awesome!

I have been wanting to do this cache for months but never found myself in the area with enough time on my hands. But today I planned my day around this cache. An oldie and also fills a cell in my month placed matrix.

After parking at the gate, I took a short hike up to the cache. Thankfully it was a quick find today.

Thanks for the cache Alex.

A 2001 isn't to be driven past, so we came in. Nice area, busy too with a few other cars here. If there's anything better than an oldie it's an oldie that's an ammo can. Very nice. Took the PT left a TB.

Trip log... GreyHams log says it best, in all its glorious detail... so it really is, 'What he said!'

With GreyHams we set out for another chapter of our caching challenge... To find all the counties in NSW. We flew into Adelaide early Friday morning with a return plane from Melbourne Monday night. Taking advantage of some super cheap car hire driving one way from Adelaide to Melbourne. Of course, as a four day road trip it leads into collecting as many counties as was possible as we pass through SA and Victoria as well, with a few side trips for those that were close enough.

The counties a high priority but many caches of interest, the oldies are always great, about 16 2001 caches found plus many others just as old. Web Cams, virtuals, great DT which would see us complete our fifth loop of the DT grid, large caches and lots of regular sizes too. The trip list also included a cache type of each we were missing for each state as well.

Simply, if we stopped for a cache that had made it onto the list, it was not just any random cache, it was selected for a quality of some type we were seeking.

One of the harder things about caching after flying somewhere is that all the TOTT are left behind...usually! So it just had to be done and we took an esky with us on the plane for all those fabulous cold drinks along the way.

The thing I love the most is that we also took a ladder with us on the plane too!

We had targeted the 'on your bike' wherigo series, so many puzzles, so many hours of them so the ladder was important if we wanted to find all the high DT, up the tree caches... which we did! Later in Ballarat we went 'above and beyond' with the ladder once again. A truly essential item to have, we may now need to invest in that inflatable Kayak for future adventures too!

Perhaps it must be said that our route was the least direct way we could have traveled via the Hay Plains and Griffith, but covered a lot of road, counties and locations leading to yet another great trip. Although a number of park and grabs, made closer by our reliable and tough SUV, we also managed a lot of walks, hills, bush, and just a great variety as we explored the different areas.

We crossed the Murray river many times, a lovely healthy looking river system. After our recent trip from Adelaide to Sydney, via Broken Hill and Bourke the dry rivers out there are a very sad sight compared with the Murray.

With so much achieved that we had set out for it was a very successful trip but also an enjoyable one with many memories made and a new batch of stories too! Thanks to all the CO's for there caches that lead us in our travels.

Yes, it was high up here. No issues finding the ammo can

Aquilus1 and myself are on a mission.... to collect all of the counties in NSW! but how to get to those 'hard to reach' ones from where we are in Canberra? It would be an awfully long round trip. The answer was supplied in the super cheap car rental deals available if you drive one-way from Adelaide to either Sydney or Melbourne... I guess too many cars do it the other way and the cars need to get back somehow. Flying to ADL on points meant fuel was by far the biggest transport cost we paid for.

This trip is actually trip number two.... to drive from ADL to MEL, via Hay & Griffith! Yeah, thats logical! It was fun explaining where we were going to people, we got a lot of strange looks. The first trip was ADL to SYD, via Bourke. The bonus of course is we have also cleaned up a lot of SA & VIC counties as well.

OK, so primary goal is counties but we of course had 5 or 6 goals. Oldies was definitely a priority, I think we picked up 16 hides from 2001 on the trip along with lots of 2002-2006's. D/T of course is never overlooked and we did well there, I think we will almost complete our fifth loop from this trip. Webcams, Virtuals and Wherigo's were all targetted and finally getting all cache types in each state.

Day 1 was us arriving in ADL at sparrows, with a ladder and esky that we checked in and driving as far as Barmera. We cleaned up the 'On Your Bike' series where the ladder really fulfilled its purpose (I never want to see another online jigsaw again!) and even stopped to grab the LBH on the way out.... after 9:30pm, and after I attacked the dirt road with my body and left a lot of skin on it. Note to self: dont lunge at dirt roads! Luckily the hotel in town was open and we obtained fine lodgings. The floor creaked when I looked at it, or breathed, or changed my mind, but the bed was the finest.

Day 2 was driving to Hay, apparently on their biggest day of the year! No motel had rooms but luckily the new hotel that was supposed to open next week was forced into opening on the very day we arrived.... I like fresh sheets but how about a bed that has never been slept in! The crossed the Murray about 5 times and it was always impressive. We saw the country side change hugely from Rivers, Mallee and the Hay plain.

Day 3 was going from Hay, around Griffith and actually turning south towards Melbourne.... it felt like a long way! We cleaned up a bunch of the counties, in fact all of them, west of and including Naranderra. My map on Project-GC is going to look so green! We got as far as the outskirts of Bendigo, stopping at the first Motel we saw.... it was better than it looked!

Day 4 was getting to the airport, which we did with heaps of time to spare. Checkin closed a huge 18 minutes after our arrival. Damn, we could have grabbed another cache in that time. Ladder back in its box and checked in. I love the fact we took our own ladder!

Now safely back at home I am already suffering from caffeine withdrawal, but thats the price you pay for living on Coke for 4 days.

Sorry for the long generic log, but it was a fun trip and I wanted to share. Smile

In order to enjoy the scenic views and to find a grandgrandfather geocache, we went up here. Really worth to do it! The place is fantastic and the box still contains the first logbook - amazing! - Thanks for keeping this old Geocache alive and for hiding it at this nice place!
