Vielen Dank Woolfienz fr diesen Tradi!______________________________I had planned a day in Akaroa and the surrounding area today. Although it was nice and sunny in the afternoon, the boat tour to the Hector's dolphins was cancelled. What a shame, I still had this tour in my head from 2011 and still rave about it today. Maybe it just wasn't meant to be, so I'll just keep the best memories of that tour. Nevertheless, I took a nice walk through Akaroa, then travelled along Summit Road with various stops and walks and enjoyed the fantastic view with lots of sunshine.Of course, a day like this isn't perfect without geocaches. So I combined a visit to the lighthouse in Akaroa with a walk past the Traditional "Pionniers Francais ... Canterbury" and searched for, found and logged the cache. Many thanks to Woolfienz for this Tradi-Cache!
We tried to drive to the cemetery, but it looked way too steep so we took the scenic route and walked up from the shore. A lovely walk to a very pretty place with some interesting gravestones. Thanks Woolfienz
A Geo day is not complete without a visit to the cemetery..A very interesting cemetery that wasn't forgotten like the French one was...SnipsandCo and l enjoyed our visit here and some of the amusing headstones.
An absolutely stunning day to explore and learn the history of Akaroa. Thanks for bringing us here
We were docked in Akaroa New Zealand for the day on our ship - Holland America's Volendam. We started by going to the lighthouse for a cache and then headed up into the hills into the Garden of Tane. What a beautiful place and trails! We then kept going up and did other caches in a few cemeteries and at two monuments. We then went back down and did a few caches and a LAB in Town. We wound up with 9 caches on the day in our 9-mile hike/walk combo.Thank you to GH6710 for 4 of our caches and to the other 5 COs for their efforts and for the other 5 caches.Thank you also to the Lab creator for that Adventure.#####################This Cache: Quick Find, after the hill climb. What a great Cemetery! Gets a BIG FAV from us.
This morning we are free and decide to take a walk in the area. We also visit a number of caches. Tftc
Thanks for the cache. I was slightly bewildered by footpaths heading away in what seemed to be the wrong direction, but a little perseverance and the cache was soo to hand.It also interested me that there was such a difference between the religions.
thanks for sharing with me your story.I enjoyed the photos in your cache! how brave these people were.
I very much love getting to visit the South Island. Until recently it wasn't something I got to do very often, but in the last year I've managed a series of mini-trips for geocaching, and here we are at the start of 2024 with another one. Just like my first SI trip in 2023, I've come to Christchurch to target a few specific caches to help with my Jasmer Grid, and qualification for a few challenges I'm currently working on.Having arrived an picked up my rental car, I wanted to head over to Akaroa, a place I've only ever visited once before on my first trip to NZ back in '88. It was winter back then, and left an impression in me of being stunningly beautiful. What would it be like in Summer? The answer to that is simply "more stunning". From the moment you crest a hill to see the harbour laid out in front of you, to strolling around the charming townships themselves, I'm so glad I came here today. That feeling is helped with also managing to eliminate 1 of my last 3 remaining NZ Jasmer Grid dates. So having done that, I came back into the township of Akaroa to have a wander around, grab some lunch, and a few casual caches such as this one.A very quick find at GZ, made easier by having no-one else around to have to worry about. No issues to report with this cache, and I soon added my name to the log before replacing it all back as found. Thanks for setting this one up.
Quick find before a bunch of school kids turned up. Didn't have pen onboard as we went on a electric motorbike ride unprepared for cache, so took photo of log book
Interesting history, thank you for sharing and bringing me to this spot. Cache found after a stroll through the grounds. TFTC
Interesting cemetry on the side of the hill. Log located quickly and signed and returned. Tftc
