Loved the story behind the placing of this cache. Had a brief search before reading the previous logs. The owner needs to come and sort this cache out (confirm, replace or archive). As an aside, the westerly wind whipped waves were spectacular as they crashed up and over the dam's lip.
Looks like a lot of the former cliff has come down or been brought down. Couldnt find it as had the two previous logs. Might be worth a maintenance check (along with Aviemore View) waitaki999?
We didn't found the cache. There was working on the path in the laste days. maybe the cache ist now hidden behind some more stones.

I suspect the accident happened on the 1st of April in one of the local pubs. Stunning scenery. TFTC
Papa spent a bit of time at this place and others like it further up the valley. Salamat!
Jumped out of the car, nose to GPS following the arrow... thank goodness they have a fence there to stop flying geocachers... Great hide spot! Signed the old pages and left a nice new replacement logbook. Picked up rubbish from the immediate area- there's a bin handy.
Remember the story well- it even got documented in the NZ Herald: http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=9004988

3/36 finds while in Sailors Cutting for a few days, I remember this as I was staying in Sailors when it happened, can't believe they were ok SL TFTC
Back at the car and ready to leave when I checked for nearby caches and found this one. TFTC!
Find #946. Another quick find as we continued to head to Timaru to stay for the night, shame it was already past 4pm! And the weather was starting to pack, as shown by the online rain radar on my iPhone, so the last glimmers of sunlight were replaced by cloud and rain around about the time we completed this cache.
We could not seem to find the cache to save ourselves! Made even more impossible by the numerous tourists stopping to also take a look, it then dawned on us 5 minutes later that there was a pathway below the road level. Duh.
A short walk later than the cache was in hand, thanks for the interesting read! SL TFTC.

That would be a sight to have seen. This cache almost had us fooled before we relised what we had been over-looking. TFTC.
I remember that story! A relatively quick find - certainly much easier in one direction.
This was a very interesting spot as we arrived near GZ there were muggles everywhere, decided to have a quick look at the GPSr and realised where the cache was hidden, not quite where we first thought. The workers at the dam were abseiling and doing something, but we weren't quite sure what they were doing. Got down to GZ and found the cache quickly without any issues as it was a easier find than what I thought it would be. Another great little spot for a cache, thanks for bringing me here. Did a view geoaching the day during our way to Mt. Cook.

Very cool story and great place 4 hide. Cache was a little exposed, I think we secured it and covered it well as long as there's no rock slide! Thanks..

we searched above the cache first because the distance was only 5 meters until we found out that we had to search below. it was a bit difficult to hide it again
During our 4 weeks holiday in the southern island of NZ we did not only find an exiting countryside and wildlife. The many caches brought us sometimes to places we didn´t expect or planned to go to.
Thank you very much for this. Greetings from Germany.

I remember reading about that event when it happened. As I recall the dog wandered off in disgust!

We took a detour today beacause of the high water level.
It was great to see the damms they are working hard now.
Great story about the jetski, but I doubt whether they would have made it with the amount of water in the lake today.

Love this area, hard to believe such an accident could have happened.although there's not much height above the water and the top of the dam.
Firstly searched in wrong level. Then got to the right and found the cache. TNLN. Thanks and greetings from Latvia!
Must have been so frightening for those involved. Glad no one was hurt. We initially started our search at the wrong level, then spotted where we needed to be. Good hide. SL. TFTC.
Funny story We stopped here to take a short break, checked our GPS, and nearest cache was 4m So we could not miss it. The container is a bit dirty, but inside it is OK.
Found this on our holiday trip through NZ.

1745hrs A bit of a diversion as was on the way to the 'Haka' to fish. Hope the rocks don't fall or else all will come clear. 'The Italian Job was here.......! Our blog www.motorhominginxs.blogspot.com
Could not see any debris but a great story, whichever version you believe. Great hide. TFTC
Would like to see the pictures! Must be a great flight, maybe not so much fun for the people involved.
Thanks for the cache!
When I heard the story a few years back it was told that the man was with his mistress on a secret rendevous, which after the incident was a lot less secret. Either way, still funny!

3117. No matter how many times we study the information regarding hydro power we are constantly amazed at the enormous engineering feats that bring the power to our homes.

Great hide!. Nice and peaceful this morning, early enough for there to be little traffic and noise. Really enjoyed the walk in, it is quite amazing to walk this close to the water.

Found 17/2/09.You can see how it could happen and it would be no joke at the time.TFTC
Easy to see how an accident could happen if the sun was at the wrong angle,or water spilling.
