I started working on this cache during the week. I read in other logs that people had found the book on the shelves, but with the refurbishment works going on at the moment I had to apply online for membership then request to have the book brought up from storage. This morning I rocked up to the National Library again, only to find that, while the Library opens at 10am on Sundays, the Main Reading Room doesn't open until 1.30pm.So I went back for a third time, twenty-five minutes before closing time. I waited at the service desk for five minutes and no one came to attend. I went back to the foyer and asked, and they said that there were other sections. So I went for a walk and finally found another service desk. When I told the attendant that I had a book on hold, she told me that the Library would close in fifteen minutes and that I could not take the book with me. I said that I only needed to look up one word! She gave me the book, I looked up the word, and I gave her back the book.I sat in my car to do the maths. When I made the adjustment to number as indicated in the Description, the maths wouldn't work. I hadn't even checked what edition of the book I'd looked at. So I just used the numbers as they were, and headed off. What I found at GZ quite put me off. I had a cursory look around, then went to meet DARKSIDEDAN for an evening of geocaching. We came back here afterwards, as he seemed to recall the location, and I soon had the cache in hand. Thanks for filling another spot on my Jasmer/Ausmer grid, Tankengine

Having made a failed attempt at this 5 years ago, when the library wanted nothing to do with book readers, I returned this morning with MummyPenny. We killed time over coffee and then launched ouselves into the reading rooms right on opening time. The helpful staff showed us how to lookup a publication's location and after a bit of struggling with the 100+ possibilities, we had the book in hand. We noted several possibilities including a seductively attractive one. Out in the wild, we visited a couple of promising locales but none felt right. The 3rd spot felt very right and after an protracted search, we found the nicely customised container. An enjoyable adventure and very happy to put this one away after so many years. Worth a fave for all of that. Thanks Tankengine.

Such a beautiful building in which to spend time, despite the difficulties of unfamiliarity.Several attempts at actually finding the cache and eventually we succeeded with Baktrak's persistence.Good one Tankengine

Had a few false starts on our way to finding this. First, we had decided to look in the library after a Questacon visit, but i only checked for caches as we were leaving! Aargh, too late. Back the next day, but only about 15min to closing time, we had to act fast. Found what i thought was both the 5th and 6th edition in our rush to solve. I gave 6th ed. to my son while i looked at the 5th edition only to wonder how to do anything with so much japanese. Ran out of time before i could help my son and had to leave the library empty-handed. It was only later that night looking at a photo i took of both books, realised i had the japanese to english, rather than the other way around. AARGH2!Finally, the next day, I had the answer and then off to search. Family was tired, so it was a solo effort as evening crept in. Searched for quite a while but could find nothing. AARGH3! Finally, on our last day in Canberra, we stopped before the drive home, and with all geofam members searching, my eagle eyed daughter finally made the find. WOOHOO!That was quite the effort, especially at gz, but a great cache idea. Tftc Tankengine!

Wow what an insane cache adventure!!Me and my buddy NP started in the library locating the first challenge. We then got stumped on how to continue until eventually settling on something. Then travelled to our coordinates and messed up twice and both times considered quitting. However we persevered and successfully located this rewarding find. Tftc, definitely worth a fav point and thanks NP for the fun!!

we must confess:we did not understand how the library worksthe great big brick of a building looks from the exterior like there would be plenty of space to wander the bookshelveswe headed upstairs and hit a dead-enddownstairs, we found only a small array of paperbackssowe downloaded the appsigned up for an accountreserved the book onlineearned ourselves a library cardand waited out the forty-five minutes for the hefty tome to plonk down to ground levelwe appreciate in hindsight that not all these steps were mandatorybut now we are card-carrying members of the national libraryready to peruse the nations greatest literature at our whimshame we live eight hours drive away

A bit of a journey on this one to get the coordinates but at GZ the challenge continued until we finally located the cache. It was a full day today. With rain predicted for the day earlier in the week we had booked into the War Memorial. It was a really worthwhile visit and unlike our normal choice, we chose to take a guided tour. Our guide was a lovely man who was most knowledgeable, and had a store of great anecdotes. After finishing we headed outside to work on Ad Labs and some caches, trads, multis and puzzles. Then it was off to Old Parliament House where we "maintained the Rage" and then cached until heading off to a Winter Solstice Event.Thank you for your efforts in creating and maintaining the cache Tankengine.**SKI Pair****

Target cache since this is currently 17th most fav cache inn the ACT ( equal 17th with 2 other caches ). Who doesn't like a libary cache. fav point. Today was all about Capital Hill and the area to the lake. About 10 km walked today ( at least ). Adventure labs, virtuals, earthcaches, multis, wherigo and trads plus the odd puzzle were targeted on the walk. some we just didn't have the time for. We walked for over 8 hours. Some interesting history was sighted along the way. quick find.Found with Mogni. Myself and mogni are headed off to canberra on the " I missed the Capital GeoBash Mega " holiday, since last minute family problems came in to play and we had to adjust our plans by a few weeks. On the way over we targeted multi's, wherigo's and puzzles to make sure we had 25 in each or at least close to that total ( or more ) as possible, getting as many new New South Wales LGA's as possible, the 17th most favourite point NSW cache and every cache size in New South Wales. In the ACT it was getting 2 of the 5 oldest letterboxes, oldest wherigo in Australia, 2nd oldest earthcache ( with a side trip to get the oldest earthcache of course ), and ACT oldest cache too. I also hosted a CITO and planned on getting every different cache type i could and eevry different cache size as well. I also needed 9 more virtuals this trip to get my virtual count over 100. Finally canberra was far enough away from from house to complete the well aged well travelled cacher 0 to 1000 kms with a cache every 10 km's ( i only need 7 more caches to complete )Leaving the ACT it was going via Victoria to get there last active web cam cache and slowly getting a total of 20 finds in each LGA i passed through if i had enough time plus also hosting a CITO in Victoria as well. A busy 11 days. Trust me by the end of the holiday you would have thought the 6 meter ladder weighed more than 13 kg's to amount of times it was used or carried up hills or over creeks. If your cache was found with a broken container/lid it was replaced or if the log was full it was replaced or a extra log if the container was big enough ( except for nano's, do your own maintenance on nano's.

Day 7 of mogni and sir_spectre visit the ACT. Today we tackled the many, many city caches. We parked at Parliament House and started walking and walking and walking. It was another beautiful day and lots of people out and about enjoying it.We really only stopped so we could attend a local event and saw few a familiar faces. As per normal if a cache needed a bit of love, it got it. Thanks to Tankengine from mogni RazzRed FaceBig Grin

What a very cool place to spend some time. We visited here thinking we'll just do what was required for the cache. However we soon found ourselves sidetracked looking at all the many and varied books and artworks around. After we eventually had the info we needed we made our way to GZ and found the cache after a short search. We thoroughly enjoyed this cache so giving it a favourite point.TFTC

Last day in Canberra before heading home & we targeted this one. 10am we were able to get into the main reading room, however we were unable to find the book in the time we had available to us. So we never made it to the final cache. We will have to come back to re-attempt this one.

Canberra Geobash Road Trip 2024. Day Eight: More caches of interest around Canberra, focussing on Virtuals and AdLabs due to the inclement weather today. This grabbed our attention due to the many favourite points. We found a parking spot, and as we made our way towards the entrance, we noticed a whole other carpark - with heaps of spots. Doh! Anyhoo, once inside, and phones put on silent, we headed for the reference section to begin our search. After a while, I decided to bite the bullet and ask a staff member for assistance - just as RoamingHowie found the exact book in question. We sat and found the info we needed, and soon had plausible coords in hand.At gz, it was RH again who came up with the goods, and did the signing duties as I enjoyed the crackling dried foliage underfoot - rather therapeutic! Thanks for bringing us here by placing this cache, Tankengine ?? Another fav point heading your way.~????????~

Day #8 Geobashing It was our last day in Canberra, so OzHockeyChick and I made a must do list all over Canberra for our last day. We werent going to let the weather stop us.This was a fun adventure in the library. We did the research needed and parked the final for later in the day. We didnt realise what we were in for and thought perhaps we had made a mistake once we arrived at GZ. Luckily I spotted it not too soon after we started searching. Phew! A great cache, worthy of a favourite point.A big thanks goes to Tankengine for taking the time to add Library Lookup to the geocaching map for us all to find and enjoy.----------------------------------------------------------Looking for caches to find when visiting Victoria? Exciting times over the next couple of weeks as we takeoff for the Capital GeoBash in Canberra! Its going to be a flood of Sandgropers over east, with a host of West Aussies making the trek east for the event. Im travelling with fellow Cockburn Crew members Leg5 and Barnzy12, starting in Sydney and hitting the road to Canberra, before returning back to Sydney. Honourary mention to our fellow member, Cravo10, who couldnt make it after recently introducing a new geocacher to the world the week prior. Once in Canberra, the agenda is set, well team up with a host of Western Australians to conquer caches. Collectively, were hoping to make it the biggest ever weekend for cache finding. Following the event, the journey continues back to Sydney, with a mission to clean up caches and new Local Government Areas (LGAs), ensuring no cache is left unturned in this epic geocaching adventure. Something tells me that well need a holiday after this, well, holiday. Very tricky cache. We will have to admit to doing a PAF here. All logs have been signed as WAC to save space, abbreviation for Western Australia Crew. Cheers Tankengine! Big GrinJoin us in Augusta, in Western Australias South West, for WA Goes Big 2024 (GCAGV8Y) on Friday 20 to Sunday 22 September. Log your will attend now!

We enjoyed caching in territory we havent been before. Weve filled our boots with some rare DTs and DTTs and generally had a great time. Thanks to the COs for a great day and event. I just jumped on the bandwagon for this one but after a fun hunt it was found in good condition

Found while attending the Mega event in Canberra over Easter. The trip bit.Easter geocaching festival of twenty twenty four. This time it is the turn of Oz Mega GeoBash MEGA event in the nation's capital. It is time for a road trip across country to Canberra in the Sporty Pajero Sports. Freddo and Gridge98 traveling from Adelaide via a strange inland route that takes in scenic rural locations, dusty roads, punctured tyres, overheating batteries, various tools of the trade, special campgrounds, and lots scope for many many geocaching finds. Along the way we saw running emus, jumping kangaroos, wandering deer, dead foxes, herds of wooly sheep and stray steers.Arriving in Canberra we met our colleagues e.gregory1, featherwaite, team waldron, courtney rose, davidwazza, signing as ABP, plus a huge group of other like minded excited mega geocachers attending event after event, and more events.Day one. Somebody moved the goal posts. So many caches to find. So many caches to log. We find them, sign them and replace them. This particular geocache was found using one of the following GPS enabled devices, Garmin GPSr, Montana 680t, Oregon 650 or Dakota 20 and an Apple iPhone 11 using the marvelous Cachly app. Waypoints and paperless geocaching were downloaded via GSAK 9. Log prepared, checked and submitted using GSAK publish logs macro.Warning, this hobby can be addictive. It can lead to exercise, meeting new people and finding interesting places you might not have known existed otherwise. Beware: you may have fun. Apologies for the generic part of the cache log. Last cache for today. Visited the library, did some research, got myself to GZ and after a bit of shady searching found the hide. Lovely spot for a cache and some very impressive structures nearby GZ (outside of the library of course!). Thanks Tankengine for the puzzle and excellently chosen final location. It was a great being brought to it and introduced to its vastly majestic expanse. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------In the spirit of reconciliation we would like to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of country on which we geocache throughout Australia and their long lasting, and ongoing connections to land, sea and community. I don't remember when I made the visit to the library, but I do know it was years ago now and I have had this one on the solved list since then. SurprisedSo, on a mission to clear up some of the solved puzzles and pick up AL bonus caches I have left for my work trips down here, I arrived here around 5:30pm and got stuck into the hunt. I scoured the area for a good 20 minutes or so and while I was hunting a cache, the mozzies were very successfully hunting me and I was dancing around GZ more than I had liked. SadWith a failed attempt under my belt, I moved out of GZ to avoid being carried away by the blood sucking biters, and called a fellow QLD'er as my PAF. Oh, that one he replied. With an idea on the area I needed to focus, back in I went. It still took me another 5 minutes or so to spot the container which is well hidden and not at all easy to find. I guess a D5 needs to be challenging though, so fair call. WinkVery happy to have this one as a smiley, albeit with mozzie bitten legs to take on my cruise next week. Red FaceCheers Tankengine.

We couldnt find the book, unfortunately. Well probably attempt to find it again some other time, though!

Yay! Finally got this cache
GZ is a lovely place I visited few days after I arrived to Australia in 2010, so it was nice to go back.
Solving the puzzle took much longer than needed as I was searching on the wrong dictionary I almost learnt Japanese
Favourite point for all the stories this cache gave my caching career

Happy to say Baristayan gets all the credit for this amazing mystery cache! She had multiple outings to the NLA to solve the coordinates, nailing down what was required yesterday.

Then we headed off to GZ on a very, very chilly Friday after work arriving at this incredible tree planted 96 years ago! It’s like its own world in there. After craning our necks unsuccessfully for a while, another hint was obtained from the CO and Baristayan soon spotted the cache which was promptly signed and ticked off.

Brilliant! Wonderful idea Tankengine, thank you!

We stopped by the published co-ords yesterday but we couldn't access the book at that time. Returned this afternoon, and the staff were very helpful indeed.
Worked out the final co-ords, but bugger, a negative! Obviously the wrong page number, Had a think about what was required and tried something else. Excellent, no negatives or double figures. StreetWakerNZ double checked my arithmetic (I may have been a maths teacher in another life, but that doesn't mean I can always add correctly Red Face) but it was all A-OK.
GZ was pretty horrific. What a vicious tree. Relieved when SW uttered the magic words "found it".
Of course, a fav point for the journey here. TFTC.

With the , a previous finder. As she didn’t recall too much of this one so we worked our way through the recently reopened library. GZ took 5 minutes and I was not going to be a pin cushion

Thanks Tankengine for a great journey.

Find number 6930

The Booos are traveling down to Victoria and enjoying the sights and finding some caches

The simple part was the research we did the needed math. Then made our way to GZ and it was pouring with rain again.

We returned today and stood walking around looking to far up and where about to give up when we spotted the container.

Thanks for placing this cache

#997 Turtle and I had collected the required info for this one earlier in the day and after putting the info together for a viable GZ didn’t actually reach GZ until after dark. Our adventure today has been a long one and we are now nearing the end of todays finds. This was our 3rd last find for the night and I’ll be honest, I think we both knew how lucky Turtle was to spot the cache given the amount of light we had available, sometimes you just need that perfect angle. Log soon signed and we were on our way to the final couple for tonight. Whilst Japanese was an option in High School, I opted to go with Italian, mind you, if you asked me how much I know today, you’d probably find I remember more Japanese after todays library trip . Thanks Tankengine for the mystery and hide

#2849 Collected some important information relative to putting together a GZ. We were late on the scene and after collecting a number of other caches and some multi info we didn’t reach GZ until dark. With the vastness of the potential search area we were lucky enough to spot the cache from a suitable angle in a surprisingly short time. Thanks Tankengine. Japanese was never subject I learnt but knew enough to get by today. Cheers.

Success today after a fail last night. This was a cache I was very keen to get - solved the coordinates in January 2010 when Covid was still gestating in a bat in China. Have been back since once but not in this part of town. Fien for a conference and this was a quick walk from the hotel. Looked last night and reached out to the CO who confirmed I was in the right area. A quick walk this morning and despite extinction rebellion and the police loitering across the road a quick find this morning - just needed to look harder.
TFTC Tankengine - another favourite added

It took some time before I saw the cache.

Found with Geogeneve with a quick stop in at the Library for a coffee. I'd suggest not wearing thongs to pick up the cache. It was a bit spikey!

Always fun to get to the bottom of another tankengine cache, and this one was no different. After visiting the library we stopped for a coffee just long enough to solve the puzzle and put our wet weather gear on. Just_Jess! spotted the cache quickly, though we were thrown off by the film canister description and lots of possible hiding places nearby. Still plenty of muggles passing by, even in the pouring rain. TFTC Smile

Out today for a big bike ride. My goal was to complete the Canberra Centennial Trail - Section 7B multi cache. Big ride and actually left at 2 o'clock because we had cousins over so I could only leave when they leave. Well that was a bit of a mistake as this section of the track wasn't exactly easy and ended up taking me about 7 hours. In the end I had to get picked up because it was too dark for me to continue. Got some good caches today while heading down the CCT trail, as well as one that filled a hole in my D/T matrix which is always nice. Great day and thanks to all the cache owners for placing and maintaining their caches so others can find them. TFTC!

Solved this a while back on a visit to the library and then had GZ after some flipping. Arrived at GZ on the bike and OMG I sat like 20m from this cache like a month ago. Cache soon found. Lovely tree. TFTC Tankengine!!

Started to rain in the middle of a cache day so I thought today would be the perfect day to visit the library for this.

Book quickly discovered and information quickly acquired. Decided to get drive through maccas, but as we began driving the rain settled so we thought we’d head to GZ to make the find.

Quick find at final location, although I didn’t need to look up as high as I expected.

Out caching with GLISS! and managed to quickly spot the find. Also managed to fall in a hole despite the 1.5 terrain rating lol. Mad skills. Thanks for the great puzzle - a fav from me! Thanks for the cache.

This has been on my solved list for a few years. I searched for it a couple of years ago without luck. Today it was quickly spotted by Nibletricecakes. Thanks for the puzzle Tankengine.

#2164

I actually DNFd this one many years ago. Recently I came across some notes I had with the GZ of this cache, and figured it's probably about time to return to search once again. Much to my surprise I found the cache almost instantly at GZ! And now (after only 12 years) I have finally filled in my D/T grid!

With the assistance of like-minded puzzlers I have had this tricky one solved for quite some time now, certainly well before the lockdown began (lucky!). Today when our initial plans to cache along the lake were scuppered by the sheer volume of Ken Behrens out and about we turned our sights elsewhere, and realised that this needed to be found.

Being a weekend we had easy parking near GZ, but I had totally the wrong idea about the hide at first and wasted a few minutes excluding that possibility, while the younger GeoTeen quietly worked out the more likely option and went ahead and quickly found the sneaky container.

Cache and log are in excellent condition. Thanks, Tankengine.

This cache has been on my list for a long time, ever since my partner moved up to Canberra 2.5 years ago and I began visiting. I've now moved here, and decided to make the find today. It was freezing today, with a feels like temperature in the negatives for most of the day, so perfect for a library cache! I looked up what I needed on the computers, and wandered around until I found the spot. I didn't see it there at first, and decided to check a second spot, as well as explore the library. I loved the prints of the plants, of species preserved in Joseph Banks's Florilegium and created from watercolours painted by Sydney Parkinson. The linework was truly beautiful. I also loved the seed pod sculptures on the library floor, I think of bunya pines?

After a self guided tour of the library, I came back to the spot I needed. This time I found the book straight away, and sat down to do my reading. I had a few ideas of what the word I needed was. I found the correct pages, and worked out a few options for GZ. Admittedly I did have to do the maths twice, as I forgot to update the number for the change in editions. One of my word options didn't work out with the calculations of GZ, so I knew I had to be the other one. I cross referenced with some photos that previous finders had taken, and knew I had it. After collecting some numbers for nearby multis, I made my way over to GZ. After needlessly sticking my fingers into some holes, I though about the clue again, and then made the find. Was a bit spikey, but you just have to move slowly.

Thanks for the amazing cache Tankengine! I loved the idea behind it, a fantastic library cache!

"Food was cold, the burrito was so poorly wrapped that it looks like it was just scrunched up in a ball and it fell apart whilst trying to eat it. There were no serviettes to clean up the mess created by the explosion the bad wrapping created. There was too much garlic sauce that made it even messier to clean up. I felt that the burrito artist had very little idea what an actual burrito looks like and how it's meant to function in the whole fast-food convenience world. The one saving grace was that it actually tasted like a burrito. I will not be ordering from this store again for quite some time."

Do you think you're living an ordinary life? You are so mistaken it's difficult to even explain. The mere fact that you exist makes you extraordinary. The odds of you existing are less than winning the lottery, but here you are. Are you going to let this extraordinary opportunity pass?

At that moment he had a thought that he'd never imagine he'd consider. "I could just cheat," he thought, "and that would solve the problem." He tried to move on from the thought but it was persistent. It didn't want to go away and, if he was honest with himself, he didn't want it to.

She patiently waited for his number to be called. She had no desire to be there, but her mom had insisted that she go. She's resisted at first, but over time she realized it was simply easier to appease her and go. Mom tended to be that way. She would keep insisting until you wore down and did what she wanted. So, here she sat, patiently waiting for her number to be called.

This weekend from 17-21/06/2021, I joined georode and gridge98 in visiting our nation's capital, Canberra for geocaching adventures. We prioritised the higher difficulty-terrain combinations, as well as the more special/unique cache types.
On Thursday, I largely spent the day solo and visited Black Hill lookout, the Botanic Gardens, Australian National University and nearby Canberra Central, and then gridge98 and I walked around the front of Parliament area in Parkes.
Friday was spent completing a few hikes in Goorooyarroo Nature Reserve and Kowen Escarpment Nature Reserve, before then meeting locals at a Friday evening dinner event.
Saturday was predominantly the UFO series in Bullen Range Conservation Reserve, targeting the higher terrain ridge area.
On Sunday, we arose to the morning's CITO event, before returning to Goorooyarroo Reserve for more walking around those hills.
Finally on Monday, gridge98 and I headed north to Yass for the Birds of Australia Wherigo series, a few climbing caches, and returning to ACT completing the UGC series.

Today, I took ownership of our rental car, with my aim of heading to the lower Black Mountain challenges. However, I was lured by the virtual cache at the top of the mountain, and so that became my first stop. A short jog around the hill, and then great views at the top of Telstra Tower.
My next visit was the Australian National Botanic Gardens, completing the *Australia's Garden* and *The Rainforest Walk* Adventure Labs. It was then on to the challenges around lower Black Mountain, spending a few hours walking around before the rain fell later in the afternoon.
My afternoon was then spent touring around Australian National University whilst following a few more Adventure Labs: *ANU*, *Everyone's a critic!* and *What's in a name?*. I then had a walk in downtown Canberra and visited Glebe Park completing that *Glebe Park Wander* Adventure Lab.
After dinner, gridge98 was grabbed from the airport, and we explored some of Parkes in front of Parliament House. A few more virtual, wherigos and Adventure Labs were completed, and we made one last stop at the National Carillon.

With thanks to gridge98's prior research, we had the right page number, and calculations performed. So this evening, it was only a matter of finding a park nearby, and searching for this cache. After a short duration, I caught sight of her, and the cache container and logbook were in good shape. Thanks Tankengine for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.

This was a great little puzzle and was easily solved, at GZ it took a bit of time to find this one but with Davidwazza the cache was spotted

This weekend I headed to Canberra with Davidwazza and Georode after being asked a month or so ago if I would like to join them for 4 days, planning occurred and a list of 110 targets were chosen consisting of DTs, oldies and special cache types.

Day 1, I arrived in the evening and headed out with David Wazza for a few hours before georodes arrival, we headed to capital hill to find some random caches in the freezing cold.

Day 2, we set off early in the morning for a half day hike around Goorooyarro Park collecting all the puzzles and a few trads in the area, after lunch we had walked 17km for the morning, off we headed to kowen forest for some of the CBR wherigos, half way around it started to pour so called it early and thought doing the drive bys in the series would be a much better idea, in the evening we went to an event and was great to meet a few locals.

Day 3, we set off before the sun had risen for the main target of the day, the UFO series, with so many in the series we focused on the ones along the fire trail and a few in the paddocks, despite being buggered we walked another 18km for the day, in the afternoon we targeted some of our target list in the southern area

Day 4, after a morning CITO we headed back to Goorooyarra Park to complete the remaining caches in the area and finish the L and P plate series, another walk completed over 15km for the trip, in the afternoon we drove around the northern suburbs collecting caches off our target list

Day 5, after dropping georode off at the airport, davidwazza and I headed to Yass for the birds of Australia series and a few of the challenges in the area, after completing the caches we headed back to Canberra past a few caches before attacking the entire UGC series, being tight for time the trip wouldn’t have been complete without going to the Canberra nature park to collect the oldest caches

Total of 356 caches plus a few labs along the way,

Thanks for the caches and their placements

Parked near York Park, now walking around the area grabbing many different cache types all close by...
Well, this took a lot of research.
Got there eventually.
Managed to get to GZ on my walk around...
Took a few mins to spot... but spot and log I did.

Several years ago I asked the wife, a former Librarian to look up a particular word which she did with ease. Alas it was the wrong word. I then went to the library about 6 months later with a number of possible words to look up. I could not find a single word. Speaking to another finder I discovered the problem was that I was looking in the wrong book ie Japanese to English. The word I suspected was the one I was after however was correct. So off to the library for a quick solve and after a search at gz eventually had cache signed and my matrix grid now filled. TFTC.

With just 4 squares left to complete my D/T grid I have been looking closely at options to fill in the gaps - and this cache was amongst the contenders.
Today, a remarkable twist of fate saw me making my way to GZ and my name soon thereafter was written on the log! Certainly not a cache I had expected to be doing this afternoon, but pretty happy with the result! Funny how a simply remark, completely unrelated to geocaching, inspired me and led me down this path!
GZ is awesome and in itself is worthy of a favourite point - there is so much I could say regarding this place/object, but I refrain for fear of giving away the location.
TFTC, Tankengine! Big Grin

TFTC Smile I loved this puzzle. My kind of puzzle, and a fav from me. Also loved the GZ, ouch! thanks Tankengine for placing and maintaining this cache.

A remark from me to Tankengine the other day made me realise that I was looking in the wrong direction. Being able to read Kanji may have had something to do with that.
Sorted a few mystery and multi caches yesterday to keep for a rainy day. Little did I know that that rainy day would come quicker than expected.
Quick find today and also marvelling at the thing the cache is in. I reckon the rain enhances the experience.

This has been a bit of time in the finding. The D/T rating was a draw card for me as its a gap in my matrix, so I had contemplated attempting to find it may times in the past.
With renewed keenness I finally made my way out to the library on an RDO to see how I go.
Entry to the library easy, find the book easy, find the desired content. not so easy.
Very interesting content though. I love the page with all the different sumo wrestling moves.
So I left empty handed on the first attempt. Email to the CO confirmed some of my suspicions.
Back at home a fair amount of googling and research gave me a better idea on what to do next visit.
Today being a rainy day seemed perfect for another visit to the library and that big book.
Looking, looking and looking but still no luck. After a good half an hour I branched out into some of the other material to help my search. Hmm so that's a language i speak, much more logical.
Another 5 minutes and I had the required 4 digit number. On calculation I was skeptical of the location but lets see how it goes.
A further 10 minutes at the gz and I had the CIH.
Nice work TS. A very cool geocache that I could and should have done years ago.
Thanks

Early start today to be able to tick off a few goals by the end of the day. Finally qualifying for a few challenge caches and keeping up the numbers in preparation for the SA trip coming up in two weeks. Weather is only just holding, but prepared for all weather. After my parkrun this morning I could do with a bit more workout, no matter the rain!

I spent the day predominantly targeting Adventure Lab caches in and around the ACT. Thanks to all Cache Owners for a fantastic day outdoors!

This one has been on the 'must do' list for a while now. Finally visited on a weekday and within opening hours. Had no troubles locating the required books (both 5th and 6th Eds.). Finding the necessary information proved to be trickier than anticipated.

Thanks For The Cache, Tankengine!

Found on a fine Autumn day for another drive around while at Canberra. Wink
Met up with The Green Geckos and had a good trek around all day.
Cache condition is OK/good. A good cache and serious hide.

I apologise for logging weeks after returning from my trip to Canberra (attending a conference for work), but some local idiot kept promising to catch up with logging a travel bug I got at my event 'tomorrow'. I could have grabbed it from the previous event it was still in right away and logged all my founds instead of ruining both my own pleasure as well as the pleasure of the owners of some racers I carry around. They will get their miles now!
After my conference I gave myself two additional days in Canberra. I found this cache on the first of these, a LONG day of walking around the city, including the Parliamentary Triangle.
I have been in touch with the CO while I was there, as I DID find the original edition that the cache was based on. And felt like entering one of my favourite books when arriving at GZ: the razor blade tree in Patrick Rothfuss' The Wise Man's Fear. Fortunately the movement of the razor blade leaves subsided as soon as I reached the tee, and the cache was duly found, signed and replaced as found. Favourite point awarded both for the library adventure and the final location.

Saving this cache for a special time, as it turned out both my 500th Tankengine find and the completion my first D/T grid.

Took a little while to work this one out, but a bit of planning goes a long way. Eventually the cache revealed itself and after a quick log and replace I was quickly on my way.

Thanks Tankengine, looking forward to the next 500. Favourite added. TNLNSL TFTC

PS. GZ is a real MF!

Found during a day of caching that started with a walk around the Canberra City centre, along the foreshore of Lake Burley Griffin, across the Commonwealth Avenue bridge, spending most of the day in the Parliamentary Triangle before heading back across Kings Bridge and down to the Airport. Took a bit of searching as I was Looking Up higher than I needed to! Thanks for the puzzle and cache Tankengine!

After the massive hailstorm that went through here last week, I decided to check on this cache! - Wow what a mess! Cache replaced - good to go!

24-Jan-20
Solved the puzzle on my second attempt and went to GZ to discover a big mess left by the hail storm with branches and debris all over the place. Contacted the CO who kindly agreed to let me log this as a find if the container was missing as I was holidaying in Canberra from Perth for the week. Really liked the puzzle, a favourite! Thank you for the cache Tankengine.

This cache has been on my to do list for a while but I always think of it after business hours. I went for it this morning and found out that the main reading room doesn’t open until 1:30 pm on Sunday! I did a few other area caches and then returned for this one. Beautiful GZ. TFTH

Okey dokey, a D5 is on the radar. Geowife and geodaughter went to Questacon, but I couldn't face swarms of carefree (and manner free) children, so went to the library instead. Ahhhh, the serenity. It took a little time to locate the requisite literature, but once in hand the code was deciphered and a destination identified.

At GZ I saw a magnificent green bird that I haven't yet identified under the foliage. I stood an wondered where I would place a cache and within 60 seconds zoned in on the prize. Nicely done Tank Engine. Thanks for the xache placement.

I really enjoyed this one. Favourite Point to be added.
I’m in Canberra for two nights only and my days are full or work, so my time is limited and I don’t have transport, so I have tried to do some research in the few days before I arrived to work out what I could do. I’m down to single figures of caches to find to fill the Fizzy grid, so I had to look to see what I might be able to do and the D/T combo on this cache filled a gap. I’m not a great puzzle solver, but if there is an element of logic to it, I’m generally okay. Having had a look I had an idea so reached out to the CO who confirmed I was on track (pardon the pun) and provided me assurance that the cache would be attainable in the time I had available, so tonight after work I went back to the hotel room for a quick change and then went to hire a bike. The new airbikes around Canberra were convenient but I’d tried yesterday to get their app working without success and annoyingly they didn’t responde to my query within 24 hours, so I resorted to the Share Bike that I had previously researched even though I had further to walk to get it. Then I headed straight to the posted coordinates, locked the bike and lockered my bag and with the help of a friendly librarian located the required text in an easily accessible area without the need to obtain a card (as my research had suggested). The solution was found and double checked before getting back to the bike and heading to GZ. I arrived and had a look around and a bit of a poke around and got myself scratched up. As light was fading I reached out to the CO who confirmed I was in the right spot and all that was needed was a vertical adjustment to my searching. The cache was then easily found, signed and replaced.

TFTC and prompt responses to my messages Tankengine.
Find #696 and a Fizzy grid gap filled.

That should have been it, however despite the lack of light I realised that I wasn’t going to make it back to return the bike within an hour of the start time which meant I would be charged a second hour. “No matter,” thought I, “that means there is time for one more cache.” (How often does the phrase “one more cache” go badly?. This was no exception. Let’s pick a cache that fills another gap in a challenge. The CO’s letterbox cache was chosen. Now I’d partially solved this and had updated the cache location to the stage I had solved to, but in my haste I hadn’t realised this and thought that I had the final GZ. It wasn’t until I arrived at the location I had that I realised my error. By this time it was completely dark and the location didn’t have any lighting at all, nor did I, other than phone torch, so there I was walking around the scrub with a bike and a phone torch in an area I’m not at all familiar with trying to match a location to a photo. I put the bike down, but it was really a lost cause, so now with time against me to return the bike without incurring a further hour hire, I had to let it go. As I headed back I realised that the bike lock had fallen off when I put the bike down and I’d done that in several locations, so I had to head back to search for the lock, which I luckily found. Fortunately I made it back in time but it was certainly an adventure and confirmation of one cache too many. Thanks Tankengine for the adventure on both caches. (I won’t post a log on the other as it’s not a DNF, but still a partially completed cache. Unfortunatley I’m unlikely to finish it this trip.
