On a road trip together with -moge-; across New Zealand; from Cape Reinga to Stewart Island; up, down, right, left ... So much to see, so much to experience. So many great, and sometimes old, caches! But I can hardly keep up with the logging. Far too exhausted from all the experiences. I am sorry that it will now be a standardized log for some founds.
Hello Boogie-O,Another day, another Cache.Together with Dr Donna travelling through New Zealand. We arrived at Auckland Airport and made our way up north. After visiting Cape Reinga we went on our way South to reach Stewart Island with stops in many different Citys all over the country. Of course we have an open eye for nice Caches but take what we can get. Today we came across your Cache and signed the logbook with our names or took pictures for Virtuals and Earthcaches. Its great how many nice spots we are able to discover through our journey and how many of them we only See because of Geocaching! Thanks for bringing us to this place and takeing care for the geocache. Liebe Gre und vielen Dank fr die Hege und Pflege deines Multi-cache! -moge-#############Der Cache "Waimanu Lagoons (Wellington)" von "Boogie-O" war fr mich Cache 6656. Gefunden am 15. Was out for walk with my s/o and came across this multi-cache. My first ever succesful multi, thanks heaps owner! An awesome walk
Went for a bike ride this morning with the intention of picking up at least one cache along the way. This was it. Cycled from one point to the next, the second stage taking slightly longer than the others. Pleasant little jaunt. #7672. TFTC.
A Saturday afternoon trip this long weekend to Waikanae to pick up a bunch of caches in the area.Today is a multi dot day and while I'm not specifically targeting them I thought I'd have a look at this one while I was in the area. First stage no problem. A bit of terrible at the second stage but all was well in the end. Third and final equally untroubled. Quite vocal wildlife here today, and a pleasant walk. All good here, and thank you to Boogie-O for the placement of your Multi-cache, and have a favourite point.Find #6885 at 29 June 2024 1:50pm
On my trip north (to Wanganui) today I had reason to come through Waikanae to visit some friends who were not there. While I was in the area, I came to find a few caches that I hadn't previously found, and this was one of them.A fun traditional multi, where everything was found where it should be. If only they all went this well. After visiting all the waypoints the cache was found safe and well at the final location. ---Thanks to Boogie-O for placing and maintaining this cache. I enjoy each and every cache I find, and it is only with Geocachers like this creating them and placing them out in the world that this wonderful game continues.[DGSc-Bulk] tagging to help me generate a list for GC30AD8 - DGSc Challenge.
We had a busy morning but some time in the afternoon, the weather was really nice, too so no excuse to not go caching. Where to go though? This multi is so close to home and has been avoided so far because Multis are risky we find a bit of hit and miss really. We really loved our walk along the lagoon though! We found all hiding spots today with no special prep (and it wouldn't help anyway) and everything was in pristine shape. Especially Miss 4 year old loved finding physical boxes at waypoints. Although it's school holidays and nice weather, the Muggles were easily avoided, too. Thank you so much for showing us around here and keeping this multi so we'll maintained over so many years! A well deserved FP from us and we wonder why it hasn't more!!
I attempted this multi a couple of times. The first time I was out on my bike on a lovely summer's day. Things seemed pretty straightforward, and I got through the first stages OK. I then got stuck and focussed on the wrong thing, and completely missed what I needed to see. Thinking it was the final stage, I put in a DNF. Talking later to a geocaching friend, I realised it wasn't the final stage after all, and I realised I'd been going down the wrong rabbit hole. I went back again today and this time found the answer I needed, which led me to the final location. It was a little trickier to get to than I expected, but once there I easily found the cache. Thanks Boogie-O for the interesting multi!
Did the reconnaissance for this a while back. Was in the vicinity today at a convention of pirates so sailed by for the booty. Nice area, good clues, quick find, thanks Boogie-O
Waypoint 1 now fully refurbished with new container and contents. Exact same place though, so ready to receive new visitors.
Years and the weather have made Stage 1 unreadable. Will replace in the next couple of days.
Thank you for this lovely multi! I really enjoyed going for a walk around the lagoons, spotting the birdlife and finding all the stages. Hidden gem in the Kapiti Coast.
Also great job to the CO of keeping this cache well maintained.
Also great job to the CO of keeping this cache well maintained.
A fabulous multi, thoroughly enjoyed having physical stages, and they were all well placed and thought out. A little cool in places with the breeze today but still made for a lovely afternoon out. Tftc!
Found while in this area, cache in good order. Thanks Boogie-O for this multi cache.
It took a bit longer than intended, but WP3 has been repaired, cache is ready for more finders. Enjoy!
Waypoint 3 location has been remodelled so it has to be moved a little. The work is underway, should be completed within the week.
Apparently the structure that held the coordinates for the final, has been replaced. I'll take a look, get a replacement sorted as soon as I can.
I first attempted this cache nearly a year ago, but was thwarted at WP1 by a lady gardening only a few metres away. Couldn't wait for her to move on. Came back this earlier today, success at WP1 and WP2, but then too many people at WP3. Went off and completed the AL, then returned to WP3 as the rain started. Successful find this time, after some searching and considering, so off to the final. Rain now quite persistent, so grateful for a geotrail that got me to GZ with little trouble. All good in cache, and an FP for a fun multi! Tftc!
This might be one of the better multis I've done because it's not all that common to have multis with all physical stages like this. And the area chosen for it is exceptional. Wandering around the lagoon doing this multi was a most pleasant experience. It's interesting how the waypoints seem to get slightly trickier at each step although that might be a coincidence as much as anything.
WP1 was straightforward and good way to kick things off. WP2 was a little more tricky and I'll admit to decoding the hint to figure out where it was (which was very helpful). I almost came unstuck at WP3 because of a congregation of muggles bordering on a town meeting (okay, I'm exaggerating a tad). So I consigned myself to a DNF to come back another day. But after I'd gone off and found a couple of other caches I returned to WP3 and it was much quieter - many cars but no people. This allowed me to try an idea I had while out wandering elsewhere. Success this time but rather awkward to record. When I returned to the seat I found I had coords out in the sea. Returned for another look and I'd somehow misread it completely. Got that sorted then off to the final. I needed the hint again and eventually I found the right access that led me to the nicely located final.
A very rewarding multi and more deserving of an FP than most caches I've found in recent times. TFTC.

Staying at El Rancho for the weekend is took some Ladies for a walk and introduced them to geocaching. They were all excited finding the caches and I think they are all hooked and are eager to join up. Tftc
#9143. It was raining in the morning in Wellington but it cleared up early in the afternoon. I had seen there was a new bonus cache published for an adventure lab so decided to head up to Waikanae and do the lab caches plus any nearby normal caches. This was one of them. Had fun birdwatching and working my way around the waypoints. Had no problems with the finds at WP1 and WP2 but WP3 threw me. I saw a place that matched the hint but where is the container. Only after wandering around for a bit in circles did it dawn on me to check another hiding option and yep there it was. Very clever. Photographed the coordinates and off to the final. I got to the obvious object and looked around. Nothing there so kept going and was pleased to spot the container within 30 seconds. Signed the logbook and replaced everything as found. Thanks Boogie-O for setting up this fun multi. Favourite for the setting and maintaining this cache.
I'm slowly working my way through my dot days, even though I have to travel a heck of a lot further to get them these days.
I'd had a lazy day today, before deciding that I really ought to get off my posterior and go and find a cache. I still have a few to find in and around Waikanae so that's where I came to.
Parked up and strolled across to WP1, but it took me longer to figure out what I was actually supposed to do here than it took to find the co-ords once I had figured it out. Then it was only WP2 which again took me surprisingly longer to make the find than it should.
But all was fine with both those waypoints. I declined to take a slip of paper, leaving them for others. At WP3 I had a quick find, simply by adhering to the Hint. And then it was off to the final, which again took a while. I was on the verge of giving up as darkness was falling, when I decided to use the torch on my phone and then I spotted it.
All is good inside. Log was signed before everything was returned back exactly as found.
Thanks for the nice set up. Multis are probably my least favourite type of cache but this was a good one and deserving of a FP from me.

Wow, awesome cache trek. Loved the various areas around the lagoon (WP3 threw us for a while). Wp4... Looked all around the area, then back to the first spot... Just about to give up then the beautiful words "found it"!
Thanks for bringing us here!
Thanks for bringing us here!
Found on a gorgeous summer’s afternoon. The first WP papers were sodden so I separated them and sat in the sun with them until they had dried out. Other WPs in perfect condition. An enjoyable walk in a beautiful place. TFTC
I’d solved this one a while ago, however whenever I’d come to find the final cache it would always be a bit to busy. Finally was able to come tonight and get the find. TFTC
Thanks Boogie-O for placing this multi-cache
It was going well until I failed to look thoroughly at WP3, but the CO kindly responded to my DNF and let me know to look at the right angle... and so I returned this morning and soon had co-ords for the final.
Thanks again Boogie-O as this was a lovely area to visit - even on a wildly windy day like today!

Did an onsite check this afternoon -WP3 exactly where it should be and an easy read (if you work out where to look!). Also checked on the final, all OK.
Flew thru the first 2 waypoints but stymied at Waypoint3.
I tried a 6 digit "safety" number from the sign but that put the final out in the river.
Is Waypoint 3 still in place??

A lovely afternoon for a stroll around the Waimanu lagoon and the estuary. Especially liked WP3. A cool hide that took a wee while to find. No problem with locating final WP. Log nice and dry. Will give it a FP. Thanks for placing a cache in this lovely area
Found the waypoints but not the cache. Have done this cache before but couldn't remember location of final cache.
Saw that this had been fixed so had another go to complete. No problems with grabbing the final coordinates and cache soon in hand. Thanks for the multi and the quick repair.
Waypoints have been replaced where necessary, description and hints edited to reflect changes to the area.
Kubota TB left in the final for the first new finder.

WP2 Looking tattered, and WP3 has vanished due to local maintenance work. Will take a few days to refurbish and re-enable the whole cache.
Had grabbed WP1 previously but not time to grab any others. Today found WP2 but paper is disintegrating making it difficult to read the required coordinates but pretty sure worked out where. Could find no sign of WP3 however so have to put it down as a DNF.
Nice walk, loved the shag tree near by. Lots of new planting near the final, but no effect on cache.
We were down in Waikanae for a few days to celebrate a big birthday and over the time we went out to tour the lagoon and find the final which we did after a little searching. with the ground being fairly wet and squelchy. we enjoyed the walk around the lagoon but we came across a different The Shag Tree which had many large nests in it a we could see the young shags' heads poking up in many of them. but at the waypoint of the Shag tree we saw no shags at all. it seems thet have shifted their abode!
thank you for this cache it is certainly going to become more and more populated as the Wellingtonians move furhter out of the city and the new expressway to help commute into city if they have to take a car instead of the great train service.

My boys helped find the caches/coordinates, straightforward once we figured out what to do at the first waypoint, saw some kite surfers at the beach, pukeko, swans, geese and some shags that sounded like they were laughing at us!
The Seagnoid and I are on a cache maintenance dash to Palmerston North today. With maintenance in the bag and visiting sorted, we are heading back to Wellington for dinner with family. But with time on our hands and still daylight The Seagnoid chooses Waikanae to explore.
Now its a walk around the Lagoon to capture the waypoint info. Its getting darker and torches were needed to help us at the last waypoint. Also helped by a kite surfer parked by the signs. This one took us a while to find - but find we did to continue on to GZ for a scramble around the shrubbery with torches. Snagged and tagged. Did enjoy this one. A fav from me. Cheers

I am on a cache maintenance mission to Palmerston North, accompanied by Taybeedragon. Or more correctly, on my way back from a cache maintenance mission. Alas, I am now working off memory as I have lost my notebook. We had some time to spare so the plan was to stop off and do a bunch of multis on the other side of the Waikanae River, but I ended up navigating us here instead.
I had looked for this cache some time back. Years back. Got nowhere. I can't remember why. Was i still a newbie then? Did I think it was a traditional? This time it was all straight forward, despite the failing light. At waypoint number second-to-last we had to enlist the help of a kite boarder who had a torch. I had my cell phone with me. It has a good torch on it. Duh! The final was found with torch light and by the time we got back to the car it was full dark.
Yeah, you get a favourite for this. And it is nice to do a traditional multi for a change!

Solved this some time ago but put the final on the backburner in reserve for a multi challenge, but as it turned out I didn't need it for that.
Took advantage of a pleasant Anzac Day morning to finish the job here, an area I have visited a few times while caching (and sometimes before that), and it is always enjoyable.
No problem with the find though it's a little tricky to get at the cache, things have probably grown a bit since it was placed.
Quite amusing to see and hear muggles go by with no idea you are there!
Cache description needs updating to reflect the earlier change of container.
TFTC and for the tour of this lovely area, favorite point awarded.

Took me a while to do all of this, enjoyed photographing the birds in between waypoints. Once I eventually spotted WP1, all the rest came relatively easily.
Really pleased to get this one today after many attempts. Have never been able to get WP2, but today I saw it straight away. The rest was straight forward. Lovely area on a fine and windless day. Cache all good. TFTC
Dropped by to check everything; all waypoints good, just where they should be and open for business. No spoonbills in residence at the moment though.
Did this in two "bites " as I had been doing other caches and was running out of time so returned the next day in the hope of completing it. However got stuck at WP3. Found something that I thought might relate but my first interpretation of it put would put me in the ocean. The annoying thing is that I have seen the spoonbills perching incongrously in trees around here but till I solve the clue I don't know which one I should be looking at!
Up in Waikanae for Gmas birthday. Decided to go for a bot of a hunt. Our first multi... really enjoyed it. hard but we found it.
Came up the coast today to knock off some of the Waikanae caches. Quickly obtained the pieces of information then onto the final. A quick find and all in order. TFTC
Finally some decent weather! Headed to the estuary with family and the kids had a good play in the sand. After a couple of hours time for some fun for Mum so off to try this multi. Sat on Sally's seat and were greeted by lots of geese. Didn't find clue so did tour of various shag trees looking for hint object until we found wp2. Hubby found wp3 easily for me then I dashed off to final while the kids scoffed bikkies in the car. Great day out thanks TNLNSL
As an attempt to fit in some exercise. I went for a stroll from the Otaihanga carpark along the river. I did manage to find all the waypoints (wp3 was the trickiest), and the final was quickly located. 1.06km car to furthest waypoint added to the DGSC challenge tally. Happy Christmas! TB's picked up to relocate.
Finally found. Headed out with Road Runner this afternoon to find this one which has been bugging me for ages, and many DNFs as well. Road runner found first stage and from there it was easy. Dropped off trackable. TFTC.
Despite muggle issues at every site, I thoroughly enjoyed this adventure. In fact, because I had to wait for reasonably lengthy periods, I had more time to appreciate the scenery rather than concentrate solely on the task in hand. It was an easy decision to award this cache a favourite point.
Lots of fun exploring the area with this one! Although doing it with my young family meant we had to come back over three separate days to complete it. Our first multi = done
Nearly gave up on number 2, glad we didn't!
Nearly gave up on number 2, glad we didn't!
Found it over a period of three days while on holiday. Second cache was particularly devious!
Finally found this elusive cache. I had found the first way point with ease some time ago, but WP2 (the shag tree) was very difficult. Glad to say perseverance has paid off with this cache and finally I had log in hand, signed and cache returned to its hiding place. This is a well set up cache, not easy and I was pleased to finally succeed. Thanks very much for setting this up. Worth a FP for the lovely area and clever set up.
Thanks for the cache. I found it on 22/05/15 at 12:54 pm.
Finally found this multiple today - been looking for over 6 months. Thanks to the CO for replacing the Final cache. Great spot.
I also returned to Step 1 to look for the clue which I didn't find earlier. Found that too - Woo Hoo
Worth a Favourite - difficult, clever and ultimately very satisfying to solve.

Final has been completely replaced -new container, logbook etc.- and is back onsite. Please be careful to slip it back into its nest and disguise it!
Note that The Shag Tree (WP2) has taken a hit (see pic). The waypoint itself -it's not in the picture!- is not affected.

Apologies to Bunkshyde and others -have been away. i've started putting together a replacement for the final, should have it in place by the end of the week.
Returned Thursday 30/4 for another look for the Final Cache. Went back to Stage 3 to confirm the coordinates of the Final, photographed the waypoint instructions (to eliminate mis-typing) and loaded the co-ordinates into two GPS devices (iPhone and Garmin).
Co-ordinates took me to exactly the same place I have looked on two previous visits. It's quite noticeable that the area around GZ is now quite trampled with lots of peepy-holes in the long grass so I can only assume that I'm not the only Geocacher getting frustrated with this Final Cache!
The clue suggests that as I walk up the GeoTrail, I should find the Final Cache among some EBBGF. The only place there are EBBGF is on the right of the GeoTrail under a GERR. Problem is, there's nothing there under the GERR amongst its EBBGF.
Second issue is that if I go to GZ as located by both my GPS Devices, I end up just off (1-2m) to the left of the GeoTrail near a SYNK which essentially doesn't have any EBBGF and there's no sign of a cache anywhere near this SYNK.
I'm going to ask the Cache Owner to investigate as others in the Community have indicated to me that they can't find this Final Cache either. I will flag today's visit as a Needs Maintenance as it's been a long time since this cache was found (compared to others in the area) and it's essentially a great GeoCache, it would be nice to have it up and running again.

I'm logging a Didn't Find It out of frustration with this Multiple! I have made two attempts to find the first waypoint with still no success. Today we finally found the Shag Tree Waypoint and the directions to the 3rd waypoint which we also found (nice one!). However, after an hour's searching I still cannot find the final cache. My GPS is taking me consistently to a place where the hint can't apply. I do hope it's still there as there's only been one find since December and that was by the person who stamped generic finds all over Kapiti!
I WILL RETURN and double check that I have the last waypoint coordinates absolutely correctly entered into my GPS. I may also return to Sally's Seat for one last shot at finding the first pointer coordinates now that I (slightly) better understand the cacher's way of doing things!
Fingers crossed for the next attempt!

Had a couple of days staying in Paraparaumu and manged to get quite a lot of caching time. Fair bucketing down for a good portion of both days - hence some very very short logs in an attempt to keep the logs as dry as possible! Thanks for the caches, neat area to cache in.
Team geocacher Mr. T and I went to the first WP and took the opportunity to sit with Sally, however there was no sign of a container at this point. Undeterred, we visited the only shag tree with logs nearby but we must be losing our touch, because despite a thorough search of each end of the logs near this tree, we could not find the tablet container. Unfortunately, this put an end to our mission as we did not know what was the next step. However, we enjoyed the walk round this lagoon on a lovely warm sunny day. All 3 shag trees were full of nests with noisy babies inside. Very interesting, although very smelly with scattered egg shells all around. Thank you.
Interesting walk around the lagoon. I used to teach kids how to sail here years ago. A very well put together multi. TFTC SL

Took a friend of mine out caching with my family and I, so managed to finish this multi fairly quickly with the four of us, plus our geo-dog, hunting out the stealthy containers. TFTC and a nice walk
Found the first waypoint easily, found the second easily, we knew we were in the right area by the amount of white stuff over the branches, but we could not find the cache at all.
As it was last found in December, has it gone?
As it was last found in December, has it gone?
found with Mermaid Man and Raven McNight. We managed to do without the first waypoint and found the shag tree by the simple fact that there was a shag in it. Found the final quickly. We really enjoyed this cache. TFTC
Found today with The Wandering Dragons. Saw all sorts of birds on the wander around. Neat cache. Swapped a trinket by taking the pet rock and leaving behind a toy fish. Thanks!
Cache # 554
Cache # 554
Cache # 1,458 - did today with Violet Butterfly. Took a while to find WP2, as we looked at the wrong end of the hint item extensively first. After WP3 it appeared that the heavens were about to open up, so we scurried back to the car. The sun then came out again, so we decided to dash to the GZ. After approaching from the wrong angle at first, we quickly found the cache. A very nice multi. TNLNSL. TFTC!
On our Christmas walk to the beach this one was totally in our direction. We found all stages almost quick and easy. But at the end we got it and enjoyed the lagoons. Tftc. Out:TB
Just had time for one more cache after a very late lunch & before heading home, so decided to knock off one of the many "multi's" in the area.
It was just drizzling a little, & there were millions of mozzie's around, but other than that it was a really enjoyable & straight forward multi. Each WP was found with out any issue's.
We had to be wary of a family of muggle's lingering near by at the final, but mum, junior & the geo-mutt diverted their attention while dad nipped in for the find.
Swapped TB's & left a pet rock - a snake. TFTC

We are travelling around New Zealand in our motorhome and discovering heaps of nice places such as this one at Waikanae. This was a nice little step out but after lunch, we will get the bikes off and do some of the many tracks around the lagoons and pick up a few more caches.Just as well the second WP was not under the other tree up the track as it was full of shitting shags.splat splat splat.
Find #1603. Another lovely Sunday to go cycle caching so back to Waikanae to clear up some multis and others that I've missed. A nice multi to do on the bike although there were a few people around which meant finding stage two was a little tricky. But each stage found led to the next and eventually the final. The final was a bit conspicuous and I'll be surprised if the cache isn't collected one day as a piece of plastic rubbish. SL TFTC
We had been in the general area before, but must have run out of time to do this cache. Today was a great day for a walk around the lagoon. The only WP that caused trouble was WP2 as there were a lot of possible hiding places and it was well tucked away. Also was worried about the manna from heaven .
We spotted a few birds too, a spoon bill was "spooning" in the river and a pair of swans were herding their fluffy babies, so cute.
An enjoyable walk, and an enjoyable multi. Thanks for the effort.

#5981. An enjoyable multi on a most spring-like last day of winter. Lots of bird life was in evidence. Did some trackable swapping (three out; two in). TFTC.
Yesssss! I found it . Thanks for the updated hint and thanks for the cache! I had sunshine and daylight today which made it easier to find.
Just went and checked -container is in place safe in its nest and well camouflaged. with reference to previous entry, probably yes -cache-note found would have been from the original container, which was muggled some time ago. Checked co-ords -GPS places it right on target. Have altered final clue to (maybe) make it easier.
Have been twice now to the final, once about 3 weeks ago and the 2nd time about a week ago. Didn't find cache, only a plastic laminated geocache card and the 2nd time the back cover of a small notebook. However I'm wondering if these are items from the original cache and I wonder if I am still missing the replaced cache. I know I am in the right place but it eludes me so far!
All waypoints checked this morning, final replaced, cache is go. Two TB's and a geocoin in the cache to get you started.
Apologies to those who are wanting to do this cache. Owners going through a difficult patch health-wise, but wll be back on deck soon. Cache should be back on within three weeks.
Waypoints 2 and 3 destroyed by area maintenance. Will replace in the next few days.
Alas I could not find waypoint 2. There is some renovation happening there, but the builders were absent. Still I don't think they interferred withthe cache. Guess I just have to come back and try again later.

Found WP 1, 3, 4 but couldn't find WP2. Thanks to local knowledge and brainwork was able to find WP3 anyway. TTFC.
First WP Was Lovely Picked Up A Lot Of Beautiful White Feathers. WP2 Couldn't Be Found Even After 20mins Of Looking And Dodging Muggles, But As I Am A Local And Visit The Lagoon Often It Wasn't Hard Finding The Other WPs. Lovely Quick Walk Around The Lagoon. TFTC Might Want To Make It A Bit More Water Proof Though!
TFTC found most of the way points easily except the second one which stumped us for a while (0.5m was not quite 0.5m).
7.00am. A very nice half hour walk this morning. A few others out walking the dog. Nice little multi.
Thank you. David.
Thank you. David.
Nice time wandering around the lagoon today. Great multi. The gc was out in the open a bit so tried to cover it up a bit TFTC
Find #7. A fun multi and a great day for a walk with the family and dog. All clues found in good condition rewarded by a cache stuffed with goodies. Took keyring - left eel. TFTC.
Thankyou Rattlingdags for the maintenance note. The magnetic container has ben replaced.
Waypoint 2 is right where it should be, happily nested behind its natural camouflage!
WP3 is also in place, in good condition.
