The first of seven caches found today with Zozetta. We didnt have much of an idea of where we would go today, but decided on Fern Tree as the weather seemed to be playing nice today. It was still pretty chilly once we got to Fern Tree, but not too cold. The cat continued to follow us on the way to this cache, meowing, purring and trying to trip us up. Eventually it decided that we werent going to give it what it wanted (treats, belly rubs)? and disappeared. At GZ it was a quick find. Thanks for the cache Xorg and Pixelwarrior!

A wonderful green track but a bit steeper than expected. Came from above as a detour. Slippery on the way down and good exercise on the way back up! A sneaky hide but it's pretty obvious after widening the search a little. TFTC!Cheers,The Hancock Clan

On my way back from grabbing [GC40BVF] i ummed and arred about descending to this one i so badly needed seeing i have ignored it for years ha ha Big Grin... well no more ingnorama from the Tit!! Down i went to this hide that was well in the dark due to where it was and overcast conditions. I wish i still had that torch app on my phone but caching instincts kicked in and about 3 minutes later it was CIH and the log was signed at 12:26 on Monday 23 January 2023.

The log within and the cache are in A1 condition seeing how it was hidden and the sweet coverage around the cache given the moist environment was SO necessary Cool

Not having too much luck today

Was nice to get off the busy muggle track and head downhill into some peace and quiet. Very pretty and green and so many gorgeous lil shroomies to admire!! And wow that fallen tree downhill from the cache!! What a monster! Wish there were still many like that alive and upright

21-Oct-21
Given it was show day, we thought it would be good to get some caches we have been meaning to get in the Fern Tree area. We followed the track on the left side up but then it turned left and we realized that we needed to be on the right side track. Mrs SudsyNZ crossed the stream to the track but Mr SudsyNZ and the geokids walked back down to the road after some run ins with some leeches. Mrs SudsyNZ made her way up to GZ and found after a short search. TFTC

Needed a study break and walk this arvo. Quick drive to mt Wellington area to pick off some caches. I don’t know what track I was supposed to follow here haha. I found my own way. Gorgeous spot. Thanks

TaurusSix and I decided on one more. This looked good. The steep descent was ominous for the return. The muddy track also made the track a bit treacherous.
We found the cache quite quickly.
Then the walk back up to the track. We were puffing but it was over quicker than we expected.

You beauty! Beautiful track, quite mossy and slippery. Walked past and then spotted on way back. Nice to see some Dockers cards for a family from Freo. TFTC

this took a bit of looking and searching up and down but down helped.. great location well worth the walk up
our initial track was on wrong side but took a direct cross to get on track.

Yay! Another cache. The plan was to walk up to get LOVE but this track is so steep I'm going straight back down. Thanks!

Many thanks.

14-Nov-17
We set off early today as it was going to be a very warm day to collect 8 caches in the area and this was one of them. After walking out to the falls, Mrs W left Mr W to walk down the track to Huon Road to find two caches while Mrs W went to move the car. It was 2.5 km by road and 500 m down the track and we got there about the same time to search for the next cache at the tunnel. As it was warming up Mrs W was very glad she didn't have to go up the track from Huon Road! TFTC

TFTC! Got you in the end, no leeches today...

Hi Xorg and Pixelwarrior, thanks for the cache. Its been almost 1 year since it was last found. I was hoping that daylight savings would give me a chance to wander up here on a small detour on my way home after work. It did, but once at GZ, under the tree and treefern cover, it was still pretty dark, trying to search, and wish I had my torch to look in the dark hollows.
Regardless, I enjoyed the walk up and back, and didnt have to search for too long despite the wavering coordinates on the GPSr.
Only brought one leech home, a tiny little one I think still navigating the tread pattern on my shoe sole!
All is well at GZ. Thanks for the adventure.

Whilst out this way "looking for love" we decided to walk on and collect a few more caches. Very pleasant stroll and quite a few muggles in the area. We were completing the circuit and fortunately walked down hill to this cache. A bit slippery in places but quickly located the cache in a well "ferned" gully. Really enjoyed the walk.

Didn't find this one on the first pass. My prehistoric GPSr really struggles on the mountain, and in this lovely gully with lots of big tree ferns it dropped out about 40m away from GZ. However, as I had dropped down from the upper track and was heading down to do Jackson's Tunnel, tried again approaching from the bottom and this time got a bit closer before it dropped out so was able to have a better guess and sure enough there it was. Thanks for the cache Xorg and Pixelwarrior, this cache is on one of my favourite little tracks on the moutain.

The Bear was having fun out in the bush this morning. He decided to drop down Jackson Track from Bracken Fire Trail. Phone was useless once reached 25m before and after GZ. The Bear needed to use his geo-senses and managed a fairly quick find after checking out a couple of likely spots. Tftc.

Found on a wet summer evening, after finding Jacksons tunnel. Love this track! TFTC

07-Jan-16
Plan for the summer. Hike, 4wd and Geocache around Tasmania. It will be a great adventure. Cheers for all the caches along the way. I came out this way on new years day with no luck in seeing the sight. As the whole hill was surrounded in clouds. I headed back in today and hiked around a few of the trails. So many to choose from and a lot of caches to follow too. Thanks

I hiked out to the falls and then went down this trail on the way back. So i knew what kind of an uphill walk was ahead of me. Good to have a lot of water on a hot day,

Found the cache while we were out walking on this beautiful track.
Cheetah had luck on her side located it with out the GPS.

25-Oct-15
I tried for this cache a couple of days ago coming at it from the top end but must of mindlessly walked past the turn off on Bracken Lane fire trail so decided to skip it. Today though as I was riding up to Ferntree I stopped off at Jackson bend and followed the track up to this cache without any issues.

Nice spot with an abundance of large ferns! thanks for the cache Smile

18-Oct-15
We hadn't planned to come this far on our 'little' walk but took the opportunity on our child free afternoon to find a few caches. We decided we could walk down to Huon Road and back to the car in Curtis Ave without too much extra time. We are so glad we did as this was a beautiful walk. We loved the big ferns and the mossy logs. Although a bit damp and steep in parts, we didn't have too much trouble staying on our feet, just the odd slip. The Gps was playing up but the smartphone was on the money and we found the cache easily. It wouldn't have been as easy to spot if we were going up the track rather than down. We continued down to the road and back to the car. TFTC

12-Jul-15
Decided to tackle this one the way back from O'Gardy's falls, so the going was a bit slow, being wet and very slippery, nearly lost my footing a few times. Once at GZ needed all the hints as the weather and the beautiful covering of trees and ferns was not doing the GPS any favours especially with so many ideal spots to place a cache. It was definitely worth the effort.

Well having found the simple cache next to the road I looked at the GPS and said well its only a couple of hundred metres away but up hill so I went for it all the same.

It was a good walk and I only read the listing in full when I got to where my GPS put me to start with, after a bit of a search and coming up with nothing I looked and the GPS now said I was 40 metres away! After a bit of walking up and down the track I spotted the described location from the cache listing with my GPS still showing me being 22 metres away lol.

A quick search and the cache was in hand, log signed and replaced, it was a far faster walk bad down the hill and I was soon back in the car.

Thanks for the cache.

This one was a different matter. The GPS was soooo confused I decided that I had had enough and was headed back to the car. I took a look at the screen and saw that I was within 6 metres. My luck had changed and I located the sneaky hide and soon had it logged TFTC.

24-Mar-13
Found on a mild Sunday afternoon ride/walk/drive. Rain stayed away thankfully. Signed Log. TNLN. Thanks. After finding the cache near the tunnel, it was a steep climb up this track, one which I have never used before. Very poor GPS reception, but found the cache while slowly walking up the hill. Leaches collected = 5.

11-Jan-13
I have to admit that we took initially took the worng path (on the LHS of the creek going up) and bush bashed to within 40 mmetres of the cache before needing a chainsaw. We returned to the tunnel and then found the correct track up to the cache (us Queenslanders can get confused). Climbed our way through some terrific forrest to the hide and had the log out and signed while we caught our breath, SL, TNLN, TFTC

11-Jan-13
Well, after finding Jacksons Tunnel we set out for this one... up the wrong side of the bloody hill. Got within 40 metres of the chache before requiring a chainsaw, so we back tracked to start only to discover the proper track on the right hand side of the track. Oh well, they say its good to start the day off with soem exercise!

01-Dec-12
TFTC - nothing taken except a shortcut

22-Nov-12
A bit further up the track, from Tunnel, which was nice and dry today, then back down to the car. TFTC Xorg and Pixelwarrior

The caches on the Ice House Track put in by Dippedidooda were the objective behind this walk. As well we decided to place a cache ourselves on the nearby Milles track and also collect a few other caches on the Shoobridge and Jacksons track areas.

28-Oct-12
After taking a single look at the slippery track to the cache from Jacksons Tunnel, geomum & geokid elected geodad to search for this cache.
He was not gone very long at all, returning to advise a cache found and the log signed.
And it was less slippery that it looked.

26-Oct-12
Walk in was bit like a mini Kakoda trail, was worn out by the time I got to GZ with the GPS saying 10m that way and then 20m the other was, was about to give up when I spied something that didn't fit in and had the cache pretty much without the GPS's help, more dumb luck.

23-Jun-12
The GPS was all over the place on this cache. GZ was easily spotted, but whilst standing right next to the cache the GPS was jumping between saying it was 4m away and 48m away. I'm glad I spied the correct spot when I did.

30-May-12
Last for a long day. I am beginning to sense a pattern, approached GZ from the wrong side of the creek and was almost stopped by large tree falls and slippery rocks. Garmin GPS didn't miss a beat though and kept pointing to the GZ when opposite GZ I crossed to the correct side of the creek and BINGO straight on the cache. Followed the easy path on the correct side of the creek on the way back to the car. I only lost my footing once ending up on my bottom (jeans are in the wash). Back in Hobart removed a couple of fat well fed leaches. Thanks for the namesake cache Xorg and Pixelwarrior.

This was the last for the day of caching in and around fern tree. I seen the steep climb at the start of the track and thought maybe not, especially in the fading light but I made the find despite the gps having some tracking problems.

13-Apr-12
As we headed back towards the city we thought that there was still adequate light to make a quick dash for this cache. It was a pleasant walk through a lovely area with large ferns. It wasn't a quick walk as parts were quite steep (and we are not as fit as we should be) but not slippery - many good small rocks on which to get a firm grip. We noticed the erratic behaviour of our GPS. The distance to GZ would remain static for a while then reduce by 50m or so in one jump as it got enough signal to update. So, once we were within about 30m of GZ we walked quite slowly looking in all possible hiding spots consistent with the hint. Then we noticed something familiar and caching instinct took over. The cache was retrieved and the log signed even though out GPS said that GZ was still 15m further along the track. As we were replacing the cache a muggle came up the track getting in a short walk after work and before the light completely disappeared. After talking for a couple of minutes (he needed to move on to take advantage of the remaining light) we noticed that our GPS said that GZ was just 4m away. Yes, it does take quite sometime for a GPS to settle in this environment. Then it was quickly back down the track to the car. When we were within about 50m io the car, the shorter of the 2y'stassies discovered a leech behind her knee and quite a few on her shoes. They were suitable evicted once back at the car. It is normally the taller of the 2y'stassies that is the host for leeches but for once, there wasn't a trace (thank goodness). TFTC Xorg and Pixelwarrior and for bringing us into this wonderful location.

This was a pleasant walk, although it was very cold today. Glad we didn't see (or feel)any of them there leeches. It was good that the cache was in the plastic bag, it was lovely and dry. TFTC.

15th and last for day.Gps was all over the place and it was very dark on the track but managed to find.TFTC

07-Apr-11
Great spot so close to the city. Difficult to find as gps aberration was at about 6-8 metres. Pretty dark in the late afternoon. Suggest you take a torch if attempting after work.
Found a coin and replaced with some "fishing flies". Thanks. Will plant coin in next cache attempted , prob this weekend.

Done the Jackson's Tunnel cache and was about to leave when I seen this one just in a bit further so gave it a go. got to GZ and couldn't find it anywhere so was about to leave and there it was. TFTC

We are here in Tasmania for a couple of weeks holiday from Perth, WA. We picked this one up on the way to Mt Wellington. The track was steep in places but it wasn't overly slippery. The tree ferns here are huge and we really enjoyed the walk to the cache. We had to search a bit before we found it as we had gone a little too far. Left a pathtag. Thanks for bringing us here.

22-Oct-10
Our first ever cache find!!! Wow, what a location. So true about the "dead spot" we had to wait for a bit for our GPS to catch up with our location ... and it turns out we stopped at the exact spot. Smile

We are locals and this just gave us that excuse we were looking for to explore our own backyard and the "treasure" was enough of an incentive to keep the kids interested! TY so much for showing us this gem of the mountain.

Took the cat, left a ladybug button.

14-Aug-10
Tftc. Ferns (& trees) made gps difficult but soon success was at hand.

24-Jul-10
Yes GPS reception was a little off, but a bit of common sense said that as there was no track were it indicated I should look for obvious signs in the area. The trip back down was certainly fun and I was lucky not to get out of control on a quick descent. TNLN. TFTC!

04-Jul-10
Thankfully there were no leeches seen on this beautiful day. We would like to explore further up the track when we get time. TFTC

30-Jun-10
I don't think I've been up (or down) this track before, but it seems like a nice one. Thanks for highlighting the track and thanks for the cache!

We did not know about this spot - impressive man ferns so close to the city, TFTC, X & P.
Although it was a sunny day and quite dry underfoot the kids encountered a couple of leeches (that were quickly removed before they attached).
The torch (used at Jackson's Tunnel) was handy for spotting the black cache in the dark rain forest.

24-Feb-10
Lovely morning to grab a couple of quick caches. Always happy to wander on the mountain's lesser used tracks. Although the GPSr never read anything less than 19 metres from GZ, I climbed up past the cache and then back down past the cache, bracketing it, and the prize was in the obvious spot. It was time that 'Happy Camper', the travel bug, moved on so I obliged, took him and left a mini-thong key ring. TFTC, X & P.

26-Dec-09
I love X&P caches! And I love all the great walks on Mt Wellington! Thanks for this one; just what the doctor ordered. (And if the Doctor and I had read the description all the way to the very end, we wouldn't have searched so much, and gone for door number one straight up!)

26-Dec-09
The gathering gloom of dusk was not enough to hide the fact that this involved an uphill. One of the consequences of "uphills" is that you can take a lot of steps and yet not get very much closer. Another consequence of uphills, especially on Mt Wellington, is that they have lots of trees and so the GPSr can get a little confused about where it is. This is one of the reasons why SG-3 dismissed a likely hiding spot (and I agreed with him) ... and after wandering up and down and searching other less-likely hiding spots with no success we finally went back ... and, of course, found the cache. SG-3 blames me for accepting his judgement. I blame him. However, it was a lovely bit of bush with all those musty rainforest smells, and that eerie silence that can't be drowned out by the raucous scrarks of crows, currawongs and wattle birds. Thanks Xorg and Pixelwarrior.

10-Dec-09
After the GPS reception down at Jackson's Tunnel, I wasn't too hopeful, and indeed it continued to be poor.
I got one good fix 120m from GZ, so I pace-counted from there, and found the cache fairly quickly - looking for the scenery worth hiding it among.
A very pleasant spot.
Took nothing, dropped off the "Happy Camper" travel bug.

20-Nov-09
Got it finally at 1224hrs as my 2nd of 5 for the day; number 272 overall. First attempt was just before a doctors visit in Huonville so with poor GPS reception, was unsuccessful as I ran out of time. Today, the GPS was worse, so a search and find took place. Was about to give up when bingo, a thought and then the cache. Nice spot - TFTC and cheers OldSaint.

21-Mar-09
Tough hide!! This was the hardest cache of the day for Team Snuva and me. We were all over that place. Loved the Ferns 'n' Logs but by the time we found the cache we had seen enough of the ferns 'n' logs! I finally found the cache 15 meters/50 feet downhill from GZ. No wonder it took us so long to find. Was very glad this wasn't a DNF in the end. A smiley is much more fun! TFTC #2291 for us.

T: Fallen Soldier GC

21-Mar-09
Well, you said it's OK to log a second time, so Snuva has put her paw print in the log at the new location. Today was my 5th cacheversary, and we spent the day with geokashers, who is visiting from California. We had tried to come down from Bracken Lane after finding Paddy's Fallen, however took the wrong track down to Huon Road. Eventually made it back up the hill after a find at Jackson's Tunnel. geokashers enjoyed being in amongst all the ferns.

While part of the team was headed to the cache, the other part of the time had the pleasure of observing some noobies heading towards Jackson's Tunnel.. No idea of caching name as the response to 'I'm Snuva' was to give me a muggle name; whoever it is will soon learn I'm only interested in their name in the caching world. Wink

Thank you for the cache!

Not in my logic it seems

03-Mar-09
A nice uphill walk through the forest soon had me at GZ where the cache was happily in a very logical hide. thanks Xorg & Pixelwarrior

Another fine cache as we were up the mountain today.

25-Feb-09
Quite enjoyed our walks in the area today. Dropped off an Unknown Soldier Geocoin. Thanks!

Went the wrong way... and enjoyable scrub bash terminated in a successful find... gathering clouds overhead made the atmosphere rather dark and spoooooooky......

21-Feb-09
Went with sparklelama and gofogo. Got a scratch on leg whilst making our own track to gz. Thanks.

21-Feb-09
Went bush bashing instead of following path (not intentional). Kids freaked out over leaches, adults had to act brave. Easy to get back via track though.

Wowee...finally made it after all this time....4 FIGURES...YES YES.
Have enjoyed your caches so far X & P...this was no exception...and pleased to log my 1000th find here. Many thanks for all your caches too...Cheers.

Okay after reading some of the logs, we decided we were a bit worried about the whole "putting hands into dark holes" bit as well, so we decided to move the cache up the track a bit to a more friendly location. If any of you would like to log this cache again that's fine with us. We have put a little "evil micro" pin in for first to find new location.

29-Dec-08
I came off the track far too early for this one, ended up in the (thankfully dry) gully and had to bush bash up along the fallen giant..... back up to the track. [:(!]
Wasn't keen of sticking my hand into any of the likely holes as they all had spider webs on them, so employed the stick tapping method. Thanks X&P for another cache - I never knew this track existed.

01-Nov-08
found on our bush tour thanks tnln

19-Sep-08
Finally got around to going this. Nice cool walk on a warm windy day. Ollie (proto-cacher) helped with this one.
Found OK, took 2*OZ Zoo tokens and left transformer, sushi mat, highlighter and small snake.

TBT member D finally caught her pet leech (called Dracula) it took some persuading to get into it's new moss filled home. Now there's the problem of who gets to feed it!

Thanks for the cache.

24-Aug-08
Found this one on the way back down from the mountain with Snuva. A very sharp walk up from the road but well worthwhile. The cache was quickly found.

Thanks Xorg and Pixelwarrior for the cache.

Lottie and I re-visited this one while out caching with Big_Matt. On the way back Lottie did her best to pull me down quickly on the soft muddy track, however somehow I managed to stay upright and not lose (any more) dignity. No leeches today - hooray!

23-Aug-08
Nice walk. Satellite coverage wasn't too bad.
Left a butterfly.
Thanks X and P

24-Jul-08
What a great area - and too enthralled by the ferns to care much about the hill.

I can't say I care for reaching into dark holes in trees too much, but a little help from the torch and this one was found easily. New GPS was very much on GZ too - a good test for the high-gain antenna.

TFTC - find #98!

17-Jul-08
12:10 pm - quite a steep walk but a very easy find on a cool quiet day. Thanks Xorg and Pixelwarrior TNLN

05-Jul-08
Forgot that I'd read not to leave the track, a little way before, i saw what appeared to be a little track and GPS seemed to be saying that direction. Thought it seemed all wrong then I finally I came to my senses, came back to the track went on a bit and found the cache!!! Talk about make hard work of it! It's a lovely area and lovely track. Thanks X and P.

29-Jun-08
The track looked like it was steep enough to qualify as a wall as we approached it! It must have been some optical illusion because of our angle of approach as it wasn't bad at all. I actually had not too back GPSr reception (love the new 60csx in this type of situation!), but I thought the hide was fairly obvious regardless. What ENORMOUS logs and ferns! Lovely track - another one I've always meant to do.

Thank you for the cache.

Had to use the clue as GPS asleep. Found easily.
Was slippery on the track and one of the beagle boys picked up a leech which I found mumified in their bed this morning. TNLNSL. TFTC.

I was on my way to the new cache in Kingston when I realised there was this previously unfound cache on the way, so a quick turn into a parking area and I was off.
A short walk later, I'd arrived and the hunt began.
Ffound quickly, logged and rehidden.
TNLN. Thanks X&P

We hadn't been along this track before so it was nice to have a cache to look for along the way. Good secure hide too.
TNLN. Thanks.

Had to run up the track to get far enough ahead of all the muggles on their way up behind me. Found it quickly and managed to get it back hidden before they turned up.
Thanks X&P

Thanks for this one X&P, it was a lovely walk through the manferns, or should that be personferns to be politically correct?
I'm supprised that we were only the third lot of geocacher's to visit this spot.
Took keyring and left pennies.
Cheers.
