Day four of our holiday in Tassie. Bettyboo3747 and I are leaving Stanley, and heading for Strahan.
The day started very nicely in Stanley, blue skies and light breeze. By the time we started heading south in had degraded a bit, and by the time we were near Cradle Mountain it was raining. Still it was a traveling day, so it didn't matter too much. Well, it didn't stop us from grabbing a few caches.
It seems that the whole area has been rebuilt with a cute hut next to the plaque.
Unfortunately where there used to be trees at GZ there is now flat muddy ground - no cache.
Thanks, Robmc.

Pulled in here today on our trip from Strahan to Trial Harbour (return) to collect as many caches as possible. The men who are working on the memorial were there and when I asked about the cache, I was told that the lady who lives just over the way, had taken it yesterday. So sad!
Went back with a friend who hadn’t found this one yet. They searched for ages until eventually I gave in and told them where it was... however I also searched where I found it last time for ages and it was not there.
Today very rainy weather in the area. So best Thing to do: Caching!
Interesting place here and after a short search we could find the right place and sign the logbook.

After dinner with stainless steel rat and TazScout (and before Swampy and Toolbox turned up), we headed out to the spray tunnel to see the glow worms. We stopped in here to find this cache on the way, another historic place I had never noticed. Geocaching has opened my eyes to so many new (old) things that I used to take no interest in. We checked a couple of places before finding this cache but all good. Thanks polfil.
Caching our way around the West coast after the Oz Day event with SSRat and Goose&Egg. Headed out at dusk to check out the glow worms nearby and thought we'd stop to pick this one up along the way. Didn't take long to find, TFTC
This was nice and close to the Heritage Centre so after lunch at the local park with pies from the truck Cafe, we headed out to this cache. The coordinates appear to be 18 to 20 m out. If not for the hint I would never have found it. Thanks for the fun and cache.
At last we found one today. Cheers & thanks for the interesting info place.

Our sixth day in Tasmania and we left Strahan to drive to Cradle Mountain. Geomom found the geocache 16m NW of GZ. Looks like the area is being renovated. Hello from Calgary, Canada. TFTC.
Found on trip around Australia with Willow the little black adventure cat. See vancatmeow.com for updates on where we are. 30 months on the road.
Thanks for the cache!

Coords were off a bit but I found it in the end, with the help of a previous logs comment. Left pt, please log at pathtags.com should you keep it. TFTC
Love this little town and love the local museum!! Shame this little gem where the cache is, is going to be dramatically altered. Glad we got to see it before it was dismantled. Tftc!!!
Lots of restoration work in progress with trees cut down and the picket fence sections removed. We eventually found the container on the site and intact - bonus! SL at 8.35am Replaced the bottom section of the container and placed the log book in a zip lock bag. #4951 TFTC and alerting us to this important memorial.
Travelling with dty73 & AddG along the West Coast so stopped at Zeehan to see the museum. Decided to have a go at this cache while we were here. Arrived at the site only to find that the fence & trees were being removed. GZ had been compromised. We chatted to the workers who were cutting up the trees & explained what we doing nosing around the site. One of the chaps went to his car and came back with the cache in his hand. We went through the processes involved in finding & logging a cache & they were very interested. They also told us about the history of the site & suggested a place that was not going to be disturbed where the cache should be safe until the CO could attend the site. We rehid the cache & it is about 20m from the original GZ. Will contact CO with details. Kutgw
This looks like its a historical site for this town and yet it has not been looked after. Very disappointing.
An interesting but sorry find today. Such a shame that a local group hasn't taken this project on. Thanks for bringing us here.
It took us a few minutes to find this one. We had to hurdle glass and long grass, along with broken fences. Such a shame what my towns council has let happen to this memorial. I always remember it being in this state for as long as I've lived here, sadly. Found 19/4/2017. Would not recommend thin shoes, children, pets, etc due to the glass shattered around the place.
Good co-ords, shame this has been so let go and trashed. But then most of Zeehan is looking like that
If it was not for this cache, we would not have known of this significant site.
Shame about the neglect.

It's a bit of a shame that the only visits Mr Long seems to be getting these days is from eager cachers. His "memorial" is in dire need of some council attention. Previous logs indicate it may have been located in the hut. Now to be found on the fenceline.
Log was drenched laying on ground added new paper and moved to under small window...
Shame this place isn't better maintained ..

Hmm, Mother Nature isn't forgiving on heritage. TFTC though and for us to see this site.
We followed the details in previous logs to locate this cache. Its such a shame that an historical site is being left to the elements and vandals to do with what they will. Didn't see any fairy house though! TFTC
This one had gone awol. Sine we knew the hide, we took the liberty of replacing it. Kinda in the corner of the board - look above the board. A great spot to shelter if it's not too wet.
Thanks to polfil and *clear skies* from TeamAstro. Cache the planet!

Our current visit to Australia had been in the planning for over a year with the very significant help and advice from friends who live in Melbourne. The original plan was for a 2 month visit, but as things progressed we just couldn't help extending our trip to the full 90 days allowed on our visas - after all it's a big country and so much to see and do, especially with our favourite pastimes being birding, hiking and of course geocaching! Our journey started with our arrival at Perth airport followed by a day cycling around Rottnest Island before travelling on to Adelaide where we met up with our friends. We then continued on to spend some time on Kangaroo Island, before heading to Melbourne via Goolwa, Strathalbyn, Coorong, Mount Gambier, Cape Bridgewater, the Grampians National Park, Port Campbell, Cape Otway and Lorne, cramming in as much as possible on route. We are now here in Tasmania on the second leg of our journey. We then head back to Melbourne before setting off to Sydney via Wilson’s Promontory, Lakes Entrance, Mallacoota, Pambula Beach, Thredbo, Canberra and Fitzroy Falls. After a visit to Sydney we will travel on to the Gold Coast, then after spending a few days in the nearby mountainous birding hotspots, followed by an overnight trip to Fraser Island, we will fly from Brisbane to Cairns, visiting yet more good birding sites. We will then drive up to Cape Tribulation before heading back south again to Port Douglas and a day out on the Great Barrier Reef. We then return to Cairns for the flight to Alice Springs, where we will hire a 4x4 camper and set off for a week on the circuit to and from Kings Canyon and Ayers Rock. We then fly to Darwin from where we will spend the last two weeks of our holiday making our way to Broome via Kakadu, Cooinda, Katherine Gorge, Kununarra, Lake Argyle, Emma Gorge, the Bungle Bungle’s and Fitzroy Crossing. Our last two nights in Australia will be spent in Broome before we fly back to Perth, from where we will connect with the flight all the way back home to Zimbabwe via South Africa. We already know we can't wait to return!
A nice quick find at Ground Zero, although the memorial is defined in need of a little TLC. Thanks so much for the cache.

TFTC - the memorial is looking a little tired but the nearby fairy houses are magical!
First find of the day on our Tassie Holiday. We stayed at the Zeehan Caravan park last night and despite the rain we had a pretty good night in the tent. Must say that the campers kitchen there is very good. Upon arrival at the GZ we read the plaque to the kids and then we made a quick find of the cache. All signed and replaced as found. TFTC Polfil.
Heading to the west coast for the weekend. Grabbing a few caches along the way.

Not sure how we missed logging this one in March when we were over. Apart from the excitement of having "five bars of service" in this town, this was a memorable visit to Zeehan for two reasons - 1) we were worried about finding food before it was too late, so detoured to find the absolute the best burger bar in Australia; and 2) while the cache was a nice easy find, we felt sad that the memorial to Frank Long is way past needing some TLC.
Short walk after a visit to the Heritage Centre. TFTC polfil & bringing me to another interesting part of Zeehan.
After a wet packup of the geovan at macquarie heads, a drive in the rain to zeehan,we set up the geovan at the caravan park, in the rain. Then we went for a drive - in the rain.
This was a quick find, in the rain, signed the log and returned to its hiding place. What a saf little place. Needs some tlc.

Today was day 52 of our trip out of Sydney to visit the southern states of Victoria and Tasmania and day 10 of the Tasmanian part.
This cache was a very quick and easy find with no muggles around to hinder the search. After the log had been signed the cache was replaced as found. It was a bit sad that there was no trackable to be found in the cache (as per the inventory) when we came to visit. It is also very sad that somewhere that was built to commemorate an important person in the history of the town had been left to deteriorate to such an extent. Thank you for placing this cache for us and others to find.

Was booked in a cabin at the Zeehan c/v park so went for a drive around. Talking to a local they are going to do a bit of work here soon as a tree has fallen and a bit of vandalism in the past. They are going to make it a grassed area with bbq and shelters to encourage a few more campers. So watch this space, tftc
Wasn't sure how we would go with this one the fence was down but a quick find while TK2 got rid of the spider, tftc
We traveled around Tasmania for 3 weeks and took some caches. We saw so many nice places only because we searched a cache. Thanks for Geocaching to see so nice places.

this was the second geocache I have found in Tasmania which is awesome! These are the sort of geocaches that I like because they take you to a place that is forgotten and quite, I wouldn't know about this place if it weren't for geocaching. Thanks so much for this geocache that represents such an amazing place polfil.=)
TFTC polfil. A chance to stretch legs and grab a cache on way from cradle mountain to Strahan. Nice bit of history. Jimmytherat with Noelle04.
On the way to Strahan so took a little detour to grab this cache. Thanks polfil interesting spot. Pity it's not been looked after. Found with Jimmytherat
Tasmanian holiday geocache number 4: a day when I honestly didn't think I'd persuade muggle hubby to pause long enough near a geocache for me to get it, luck was on my side. We bid farewell to Strahan, and headed to Zeehan to go around the west coast heritage museum. As luck had it we arrived at 8:50, the museum opened at 9:00. After sitting, arm resting on open window, head nodding in time to some vintage east coast hip-hop (I know how to claw back my sense of 'cool' after nerding-out over steam trains yesterday in Strahan) ... Anyway, thinking on my feet I declared that 10 minutes was just enough time to get one 300 metres away. The geotwins were my willing companions and we set off through a mass of Lycra-clad, number wearing cyclists who were milling about presumably pre-race. We walked around the corner, coming face to face with a burly man in a red kilt. We pressed on. We reached GZ and quickly found the cache. The GZ was very quaint and interesting I'd have love to explored it further but received a text from muggle hubby :"it's open" which seemed to have a mild hint of impatience about it. We walked back and where once the kilted man stood, an older man had come, donned in ill-fitting, bright yellow Lycra, to taunt the cyclists. "I know your brother" he yelled as we scuttled past. I'm fairly certain he didn't. We went in the museum which was frankly very good value for money, and had plenty to entertain us till we left to continue our eastward journey.
Quick find for seventhrombus and I whilst on a day trip out of Queenstown. Seems a pity that the memorial hut and yard are so run down...tempted to come back and clean it up a bit! Picked up a geo-coin that started it's journey in 2012, looking forward to keeping it going on it's journey! TFTC
Picked up a Geocoin that started its journey in 2008, going to take it around Tasmania for a while and then send it on its way
Long time no Geocaching, back in business, dropped two Coins, apologies to their owners for keeping them for soooo looong!
A lot of history here but like the town, this memorial has been let go and not maintained. Thanks for bringing us to this spot and learning who Frank Long was. TFTC.
We enjoyed visiting this historic mining area and reading about Frank Long. It’s a shame the information board in the hut has been smashed.
Thanks for the cache polfil.

What an interesting story. Hope the Council sees fit to tidy up the area as it is a great piece of history. Travelling from WA and enjoying the odd places caching takes you. TFTC
Travelling around Australia and spending a few months in Tasmania.
today we had to travel from Queenstown towards Riana as we have to pick up family in Devonport tomorrow! A few quick stops to gain a few smilies on our way through.
Sad to see this area let go. Cache found easily although the log was out on the ground! Replaced in the cache but no TB sighted.
