Thanks. The terrain of one maybe a 3 or 4. Terrain for a billy goat maybe one. For an older bigger fellah with dodgy knee. Fell over twice each time in a bush near the cache with sharp bits on the end that stabbed me. Got it in the end.
Found a place to park and slid down to get this one. Not too bad. A good find. I AM GUR
We are on a trip in New Zealand. A wonderful country with a lot of (old )caches. There are too many caches so we limit ourselves to the (old) gems or where we happen to make a stop. We found and signed this cache in good condition. Little climbingwanakadoc, thank you for this cache, regards xizat-NL. Take care, this hobby can develop to an addiction.
The third one on our list today. We found it but the coordinates where a little bit confusing. Very nice Spot T.f.t.C.
An astonishing view right behinde this little hill. Best wishes from germany and thanks for the cache.
There is absolutely no way this is a T1. The far side is more like a T3. But still enjoyed the scramble for a quick find when I finally reach GZ. TFTC
A bit steep for me and the kids to get to but hubby made it and logged our find in the rather unconventional container.
Dropping down into the next valley as we continue our journey. Quick find at GZ. Great place for a cache.
Thanks wanakadoc for the cache. Its #1844 for us. We found your cache on Wednesday 15 November 2023. Made it to the cache but alas wife (with pen) didnt. Have attached a photo as proof of a successful find
Day 6 on our holiday in New Zealand. Today our tour is going from Queenstown to Fox Glacier. We also visited this traditional cache, found it, and signed the logbook.

The complete month march I am travelling on both Islands. Christchurch heading south, next the westcoast. AbelTasman-Wellington-Rotorua-Hahei and finally Auckland. This was one of the caches I found; thanks for showing me the area.
A stop on our way back from Wanaka. We stumbled about for ages using just my phone with its dodgy GPS. Went too low, but then spotted the cache coming back up. Not really a terrain of 1 though . Thanks for placing this cache.
On our way from Wanaka to Te Anau. Just had a significant birthday and the gift was a day out caching and a cruise at Doubtful Sound. Tftc.
A beautiful sunny day after a dumping of snow the other day...left us with great photos! Glad the snow had melted to make access here easy!
Down for a job in Manapouri then up to Fox for the night before heading back to CHCH...
Nice little spot, little bit snow around, compared to last time I came through.. Thanks for the placement
TFTC wanakadoc, the cache was found in good order Signed, sealed and returned to GZ. 4 find(s) of 9 today, making this find #3390

Terrain 1? Id like to see the person that can get here in a wheelchair!!!
Found after a bit of scrambling around.
Thanks for setting this up

On my way to Wanaka and made a quick stop to find the cache.
Hoping it was at the top, it wasn't, and it is not a T1, but I took it slowly to get down to the cache, and was thankfully in the right place and was soon signing the log.
A fun find thanks wanakadoc for the hide

Mr P and I were making our way to Cardrona Distillery and was it was fun to find some caches on the way, Brilliant views today!
I was on my way back to Wanaka from picking up my granddaughter, Redco5, from Queenstown. We had decided to stop here to do the cache and found that KirsTim was already in residence. It was nice to meet you two.
Cheers for the cache.
Cheers for the cache.
We realised we'd missed this one the day before, so made a quick pit stop to grab this easy find. Easy, no. NOTE this is a Terrain 3.
Half of the team headed down the other side of the ridge and went to gz, except the coords were a bit off, (so no need to go beneath the rock). Whilst I was standing on top of the ridge, a car pulled up and Tufty had seen me and knew what we were doing. Had a chat for a bit before heading on our separate ways.

Found with StreetWalkerNZ while travelling from Wanaka to Queenstown via the Crown Range.
There were road works going on near GZ - a crew was cleaning the culverts. We got a park OK, despite travelling in the less optimal direction.
With the advertised terrain rating of 1, I was expecting a barrier cache, but no, the GPSr was pointing way over thar . The reality was that the terrain rating is more like 3. I would be annoyed if I was physically disabled and stopped for this cache, only to find it was unachievable.
Enough being grumpy. TFTC.

#20507. Unlike Troodles, I didn't take much notice of the terrain rating, and hopped over the barrier and climbed to the top of the wee ridge. I was expecting the cache to be on top of the ridge, but no; my GPSr was telling me it was down the other side. Question was, should I backtrack to the road and follow the stream, or just head straight down the steep slope. After a bit of dithering I opted for the direct approach. It was steep, but the ground was dry and I managed to get to GZ without incident (sliding down the slope would have been bad; lots of spiky plants to be impaled on). Quick find once at GZ. TFTC.
Quick found on the way from Wanaka to Qt coming on a party. Is it ok to park on the other side of the road? I wasn't sure but really wanted this one.
In the area on holiday with the family. Having landed early this morning it was time to head to Wanaka where our accommodation is. Have never been up this road before - it was awesome!
Well this one was fun! Had seen the 2 DNFs and the notes re the terrain so as we pulled up I knew exactly where we needed to go. Got to the top and gps says 14m further....ummm guess we are going down the other side too!
Scrambled down, saw an obvious spot and there it was - woo hoo!
It was bitter sweet that there was not snow as we are keen to see it and play in it but on the other hand it let us find the cache!
This should be more like terrain 3 really.
Thanks for the cache.

Only DNF of the geo tour. Went up the hill (D1 - yeah right), had a look. Came back down and went on our way!
Stunning day roadtripping from Wanaka to Te Anau & picking up a few caches along the way with Ricardinho
He scrambled down the hill, while I documented our adventures I.e. I might have been taking the p#ss...hehe

Pretty good conditions today and not too much traffic so the pullover was all good. I did the scramble bit while RG72 took the mickey. TFTC wanakadoc.
Day 4 of a 10 day trip to Te Anau, and today is Wanaka to Te Anau. We came over the Crown Range, enjoyed a good ride and some great views, then popped into Arrowtown for a bit of casual shopping. Once deciding everything there is out of our price range we were off to Te Anau with just a few choice stops on the way. Nice day, great scenery, found some good caches. Thanks all COs.

Petit arrêt sur une D1/T1 sur la route... Ok au final mais plutôt une T3
Merci pour la cache et la découverte
Merci pour la cache et la découverte
A nice place and at the second look the cache was easily spotted.
But the D/T is absolutely bullshit. The difficulty is a 2 or 2,5 and the terrain at least a 3. Would like to see an wheelchair driver getting his hands on this one.
TFTC M.o.E.

The grass was very long and there were too many muggles on a really busy holiday break so gave it a miss.
Found it! Coords were about 15m out for us but clues helped. Would definitely recommend good footwear to get to this one ️
As it is a T1 we used crocs to walk to GZ. It is possible with this kind of shoes but not recommendable. At the cache it was a quick find.

I’ve been down and up this road a few times in the last six weeks and didn’t realise this cache was here. Saw it while in civilisation and plotted route to it from 7km away.
Pleased I didn’t note anything else as it’s not anything like a D1/T1 - more like a D1.5/T3. Traipsed to the top of the knoll and down the other side, up the reentrant towards the road and back up the knoll *as I tried to make sense of the map without any map details*. Ended up a simple find coming up from the back of the knoll although those damned *Aciphylla aurea* (golden speargrass) are a bit of a hazard. TFTC and ”Thanks” to Lions.v.Lambs for keeping this cache going

M went to find this cache and it was more of a Terrain 3 and was about 10 m out. It was one of the harder caches that M has looked for in nearly 7800 finds. He also saw a little gecko.
I have had a a busy few months with a number of unplanned for trips to the North Island by myself so we decided it was time for a family break away and decided on visiting Wanaka. MrKN had two weeks off as the plant was closed and the second week coincided with my birthday. Growing up my parents drove us all over the country for our family holidays but I don't remember ever being over the crown range. I decided I wanted to celebrate my birthday with dinner at the Cardrona Hotel and drive the length of the road finding the caches. The plan was made to start with the windy end first so it would be a nice easy drive back to our accommodation after dinner.
So far KNv2.0 had found all the caches and BFC really wanted to find one so as this had a low rating it was going to be his to find. As it was a hot day KNv2.0 stayed with the car so the windows could be left down and MCB took a turn at getting out and hunting for it. We went along the top of the ridge and were a bit confused as to where it could be that wasn't down a steep bank. In the end we went back closer to where we had parked and it was easier to get down to the stream and walk along to a point below where the cache was and then work our way up to it. Once we got to the right area it wasn't that hard to find. MCB found it but allowed his brother to hunt for it and make the find.
Really nice location but as 1066 said (yes I am late logging our finds) it is closer to a 3 than a terrain rating of 1.
Thank you wanakadoc for placing this cache.

Quick find but felt more like a mountain goat as terrain was harder than stated. TFTC
Pleased it was not near the MASSIVE Spaniard. Finished the caches in the valley floor, the rest of the ones on the tops to do one day.
A weekend off from school. On a trip to Macetown and and surrounds. A beautiful views on the Crown Range. It was a bot of a climb to get this one. The DT is definitely wrong.
Found with Annielin and Downsouthinv

A free weekend. So why not!!! Let's fire up the cache mobile and go bush!!
Found with downsouthinv and Abbykitt.
Found a parking spot and 'hurdled' the barrier....
A scramble up and then spied a likely spot... next to a big Spaniard grass (spear grass)...
Sigh...
So crossed fingers and got there hoping to avoid sharp bits.
Found the goods, no injuries sustained....
Great place to stop and enjoy the views.

After the working week was over a quick look at the weather and the decision was made let's go .
So we packed a bag and fueled up the cache mobile and headed off. So first stop winton for tea and then to Kingston.
After a good night sleep we head to Arrowtown.
A quick park and careful grab
As not to get a injured by the gard plant .
I think the terrain needs to be higher.

Bit of an adventure… but the hardest part was getting over the new barrier. Bit higher than normal! Got there in the end. TFTC
On our trip thru NZ we visit a lot of places and see many spectacular locations.

Out for a bit of a drive with a friend and had time to make a few stops along the way to sign a few logs. It was a nice walk up to this one. Was an easy find TFTC
Find #2459
With no touristy plans for the afternoon, we decided on a caching drive (funny that!), and the Crown Range Road looked a good place to start. Initially we thought we'd nail a 1500m elevation cache but sadly it wasn't to be.... who would have thought the highest sealed road in NZ is only 1000m ASL?
And again - T1? I nearly ended up on my bum getting to this.... then impaled my hand on speargrass. Left a TB, as I doubt a muggle will ever get near this one. TFTC

Found while driving through from Lake Hawea to Te Anau on a lovely sunny day. Snow low down and wonderful vistas of the tops. A bit of an unneeded scramble to to find this one. TFTC
What a beautiful little spot with babbling brook on this very sunny midwinter day. Enjoyed the insert the CO has made for the log.
CO may want to alter the difficulty rating. No way a wheelchair could get to this lovely cache
A good spot to stop and let the brakes cool while we made a quick grab. TFTC!!!
Tftc - easy find but not easy to get too - nice bit of exercise and break from the traffic on our way home from Wanaka long weekend with the grandkids
Um should have read the previous logs about the terrain misrating - definitely more of a scramble. Ended up going up, over, down and back up again, was about to call off the search when hide more visible on the way up than down. TFTC #110
DFDC!
Tough bunch these Kiwis if that's a T1! Flailed about a bit to get a fix but found it eventually. Thanks for placing.
Great location, easy to find when you realise that T1 is a total joke! Get a wheelchair up here?? New Zealanders must be real women to be tough enough for that. (1893, emancipation). TB out. PS. Amended back at base. Just tread some old logs and googled Regal toilet paper. Now I get the joke and understand the cache design! FP from me. (Ignorant Englander).
*Still in place but needed a new log and pencil. Not the obvious hide. Noice'n'dry.*
28 Nov 16 Found Last cache on the road got logged first as I didn't plot any caches too far along the way before darkness set in. The large hide feature quickly loomed into view from the road as I slowed for the good parking in the chain bay and then disappeared out of view. Sweet find and quick walkdown to the cache. Grrr that's not the luvliest satanical botanical guardian, my first - as I haven't logged many of the wily fisherman's hides and only seen them from a distance walking up to the Ski Hut cache. Nasty nasty. Just as well the D/T is a bit deceptive for such a hide as I disapprove of dropping TB's in the Lakes district. Take the car faraway. All the original beads are long gone but the con was noice'n'dry. Grabbed all the rubbish stuffed in the bottle, threw in some fresh swag, sharpened the pencil, and replaced the log mess with a new bagged logscroll. The CO is inactive, keep the GZ going for the doc. Giggles let's do the cache again, that was such fun! TFTC

We left our campsite early so we had time to stop on several places along the route to enjoy the views and look for caches.
Some were along lake Wanaka and lake Hawea and later on the road to Cardrona and further.
It was a nice route with a variety in scenery. and we had a pleasant travel today.
After searching on this steep slope for quite a while, we still didn't find the cache and we gave up.
