Logs
I've had a report of someone who has found the cache and has taken it home for me to collect, fix and re-instate. That not being practical, I thank the cacher for their kindness, but at this stage this area is going to return for locals to do something with.
III - I came, I searched, I failed. Spent a good 15 minutes or more looking for this one and eventually had to admit defeat. I am so pleased I was wearing a hat otherwise the head would have been worse for wear but hide was too clever for me.
Small round in Mapua with Weter1 as he had searched previously with no success. After a little triangulation the apprimate location was estimated and the searching began. TftC.
Had a quick (10minute) search while waiting for fish and chips. Gps took me here and there but no luck. Will be back to try again next Christmas holiday
Wow! That took a bit of searching! The co-ords were spot on which was a huge help ! Decided that we might get the bikes and head over to Rabbit Island for a ride on such a lovely day. TFTC.
The tide was in our favour and we weren't in a hurry so this this a go. Back in March when we were here the tide was to high and we had a ferry to catch. So down we went. Wow, wandercat fitted quite nicely but lanky ajbenn was having difficulty folding up and becoming a Hobbitt.. Wharf construction is really interesting and this one has undergone several transformations. The old timbers have real character. We found a container and signed the log but we have no idea if it was the right container....how many are there...the logs are somewhat confusing. The one we found was cleverly hidden and the approach angle was critical to a successful find.
Found the new cache essay. Would like to know if it is in the wright spot, or is the old one just harder to find ?
We have looked and looked for this geocache but we cant find it anywhere. Everyone we asked who has found it before says it has been muggeled. We are going to put a new one there in the place where my brother says he found the old one. If you disagree with putting a new one there or know that it has not been muggeled then please comment on this geocache to say so and we will remove the new one.
Thanks,
Strawberry sundae!
Thanks,
Strawberry sundae!
Searched and searched but the smell of fish n Chios got the better of us, but don't worry we will be back
A lovely day but no luck with this one. Rewarded ourselves with fish and chips anyway
Yet again the DNF streak continues. Armed with a bit of info that was sure to narrow my focus, I went to work with the noise of the many cafe patrons enjoying an end of week drink reverberated around me. 45 mins later and still no luck I had to leave empty handed.
Next time!!!
Next time!!!
I thought this would be a dead cert. I was proved very wrong when even three previous finders could not help me locate the prize under the wharf at low tide.
Tide is going out so after lunch decided to do a few caches. This was extra fun with an arm in a cast! Thanks
Conditions right for a search today but this cache proved elusive . Will be back for another look one day.

A few muggles having lunch but no one seemed to pay any attention to me as i wandered under the wharf. Spent ages searching but came up empty handed. Will return
It was difficult to search for this cache over the busy Anzac period as the wharf was pretty busy.
we drove away about a year ago as the place (under) was crawling with kids. Today, a wedding party on the ramp hardly noticed us disappear under. Coords spot on, so "w" had it straight up....whew. thanks
Found at last, a fiendishly well-hidden cache. I came here just over a year ago but despite 20 minutes searching I missed it then. It still took quite a bit of time today to find this time, and it was only by systematically trying every possibility that I eventually found it. My hand must have gone right over the top of it several times on previous passes, mutter, mutter... Signed log, TFTC and I'm glad to lay this to rest at last. Well worth a favourite point despite the frustration caused
Would have liked to find this one, a smashing area but tide well and truly still coming in 12.45 am 1/2/13.
May be able to drop in on way back from Abel T.

There were heaps of people both on the wharf and swimming but we were able to slip away un-noticed and soon had the cache in hand. Thanks for a fun hide and location.
A fun find. TFTC

An extremely hard and well hidden cache. I found it by luck, as there are so many places under the wharf to look.
Very hard find. I was there for an hour but in the end I found it!!!!!! : )

Having hunted for this one for a good 10 minutes I was interrupted by a group of 4 boys who stopped a few 'poles' away and began discussing why boys should hit girls. A reasonably amusing conversation to listen to but it wasn't helping me find the cache! I sat a tapped out a DNF log but fortunately as I was about to submit it they headed off and I was free to search again. I work systematically from right to left but that turned up nothing. Stuck my head in a range of holes, nothing there. Just as I was about to give up I spotted a possible spot and Hey Presto! Cool cache, thanks.
Very tricky hide! Found en masse while attending the Over the Rainbow - Blue event this morning. TFTC
This was hard but good, first Cache hunter, me and 360 degrees coudent find it so I went back and called my dad over even he coudn't find it and he had already found it so we thought it had been muggled so we walked off and found some others when we came back they had found it, we were so happy we started to run, when we got there we all sat down and signed thank you beltfamily.
On a caching run with Flying Phoenix and Cache Huntr during the event. Refer to Flying Phoenix's log below. TFTC Beltfamily!
mmm found a man in blue overalls under the wharf with a cache in hand! I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth! His Caching Karma has gone up a fair few notches today. TFTC #4235
I was happy to join the queue to sign this log after being muggled out here previously. It was so much easier to look innocent wandering under the wharf on a cracker day than it was during a night time sortie some time back. A very clever hide. TFTC.
With an event just meters away from GZ and juniors in the search party it all looked innocent. A previous attempt was thwarted by muggles so the opportunity to join in the search was taken up. To everybody's relief the cache was finally extracted from a very cunning hide. A great experience for young and old. TFTC
Too challenging for us. Had a really good look and even though the tide was low the cache still eluded us.
The conditions all appeared good, but I just wasn't up to the task today. I'll be back.
DNF but may have been that we couldn't find it, spent enough time on it. Did find something but couldn't retrieve it!!!!
Have come up from Christchurch for a week staying at Kaiteriteri, this was our first find (1 of 4) for the day. We were working on locating the cache and a kind gentleman (I nearly left my skin I was so absorbed in looking for the cache) refined our search area ever so slightly, found it. The man was a muggle and he knew exactly what we were looking for, all in a fun days geocaching. Awesome Hide, TFTC. 1eyednbf (1 eyed Cantab and proud of it).

Had quite a long hunt around at low tide but couldn't find what we were looking for, oh well some you lose.
Great to meet with two other geocachers and have a great 'meaningful' discussion right at GZ!!!! Another 'belter' of a hide - You provide us with frustration followed by satisfaction - and today a bonus - meeting others with the same interest. TFTC
Brilliant! Arrived at wharf and were suspicious that another pair were on the same mission as us - nice to meet you geopopnz NZLats had his caching hat on and had it in hand quite quickly. TFTC.
Fairly quick find with Virtual Allie, we did have another couple of cachers on our tail and ended up having a good chat while sitting under the wharf :p TFTC
FINALLY - after three years of summer holiday. bet every rock has been turned amongst our two caching families!@!!!!
finally a phone with a GPS made all the difference, truly was going to give up on it. I am at peace

This cache was high on my "to do" list when visiting the area today as I was an early finder of a very good and similar one in Wellington, but it was not to be, nothing here. Searched high and low, crawled into places where only a snake should go, still no cache. Took off shoes, waded well out, still nothing. Shone searchlight torch into all sorts of little apertures, zilch. Got back to motel, contacted a previous finder in Wellington, it appears the cache should have been in one of the first places I looked. Hmmmm.... either I'm blind or stupid or the cache isn't there - or some combination of those
Add us to the "tried really hard but failed miserably" list, really does remind us of one in Devonport, which we tried extremely hard and failed just as miserably, thanks in any case, nearly enjoyed it!!
We were out for some good seafood here, and I thought I'd go see what I could see on this one. I searched for about 15 minutes, but was kind of rushed, it was getting dark, and came up empty. I hope to have the chance to try this one again, but I'm not sure I'll be back up this way -- pity, as it seems many like this one!! Thanks for the hunt.
Now that I read the other logs we must have luckily struck perfect conditions for this one. Tide well out and a lovely warm evening. About 5 mins for the find. Securing stone was underneath cache so replaced on top. Had fish and chips afterwards - the quality I would rate up there with the best I've ever had.
A hearty TFTC!!!

This was my first visit to the much talked about MMM of Mapua. As Liquorboy and I arrived on Dusk we were surprised to see quite a few muggles still lurking around the wharf in the near freezing conditions =) But we were dressed up warm with headlamps so went on in and had a very good look around. After a bit longer than we should have finally came across the cache. Very relived to get it after bumping into a few bugs here and there. Thanks for the very interesting cache =)
Went out with dazzaboi on another night mission.Starting to feel like some other people that cache in pairs at night.I have been here before with the family but no luck. This time our search was more relaxed and some communication from friends dazza came up trumps.log signed by both parties and then we were of to kina for one lucky last for the night thanks for the cache.
Thought we'd be up to the challenge as all conditions looked favourable. Well, not our day here but was a great bonus to visit the interesting shops & have an ice cream.
should have been 4 stars with a 18 month old in metldown mode! found with the Southward4 TFTC
Finally we had the chance to try this cache. With 5 kids in tow we earned our 3 stars in finding this cache. But we enjoyed the challenge. TFTC
Went before Breakfast to avoid Muggles. Got this one for the difficulty rating for my Welcome to Nelson Caching Challenge
Last searched for this cache on 02 Oct 2010. The cache was missing and Km slipped over and cut herself badly on one of the piles, so it was good to find it at last on 01 April 2011 at 13:11:00. We were back in nelson for graduation, and took Km's Dad out to mapua for fish and chips, a good time to knock this one over.
Typical....high tide in an hour!! I was very tempted to still go for it though...no dry clothes! In 2 years time we'll have another go.

On my trip around the world I first visited the States, travelled from there to Australia and continued my trip in New Zealand.
Terra Fox joined me and we made a four-week-tour in NZ driving from north to the south and back again.
Geocaching can take you to spots you would never visit and so I used my trip to find some caches in every state and country.
Thank you for this cache and greetings from Germany

Finally, found an opportunity to go for this cache. Had a very enjoyable lunch and beer tasting at Golden Bear, and then did the crawly thing for a bit. Great fun, TFTC
Caches like this are always fun when you're 6'1" and 16 stone and it's high tide.
Conveniently I had brought a couple of small boys with me and the ruse of following them down playing the grumpy Father worked a treat with the muggles. A couple of minutes search and the cache was in hand. Pity it's not a bigger container; you could fit a huge one for good swaps down here.
For the doubters I reckon the coordinates are absolutely spot on.

Still there? Looked seemingly everywhere. Either GPS co-ords are well out or its gone.
Yes it is still there. Not many muggles around today, but still took a bit of searching. Replaced with stone back on top of container TFTC Cheers!
It's there. Trust me, it's there

Lot of poking around with no joy. Hands and knees and whole tribe of helpers. Hope the tide didn't get it.

Grr, mutter, mutter, grumble, moan, moan. Think it might be time for beltfamily to get their GPSr re-calibrated.
We were having a coffee at a Mapua establishment while checking out the local caches - and were surprised to find one was just a few metres away! It was low tide, so that was a good omen! After 15mins and scraped knees and elbows, StreetWalker hit the jackpot!

#1712 (10/30 on day 5 in Nelson). We were sitting inside having a post Rabbit Island coffee, and decided it was time to plan where to go next. Nearest cache was only 5m away. Read the logs and felt a bit ill prepared. However, the tide was low and the muggle factor not too bad (lunch time on a Thursday) so under we went. We were having thoughts of giving up when I just happened to look in the right spot and there it was. Thanks for the cache; enjoyed it.
gave it a go a few times before without figuring out it was gone but I gave it another go and found it.TFTC
I have struggled with this one a couple of times - so it was great to finally complete it.

Had looked before for this and it was missing with a lot of evidence of water being extremely high and when finding the cache today it would have had a good wash!!!
Thanks for replacing the cache and im glad to have now completed this one !
Thanks for replacing the cache and im glad to have now completed this one !
I have to say a huge Thank goodness!!!! after about 10 attempts we have finally knocked this one off !!! I can now visit mapua and have civilised fish and chips or ice cream or beer without having to indulge in some semi wet/damp crawling first or after !!!! A big thank you to reinstating the cache and at last a big cross off on our to do list - signed log thanks so much for the cache
I'm happy you two are happy. And I know you put the stone back on top. But can everyone else PLEASE PUT THE STONE BACK ON TOP. Otherwise the cache will float away..... like the previous one.....
A down side of meeting people at events is that they remind you to go fix a cache or two new cache and log book. Don't get excited about the FTF spot being empty Put rock back on top!
It has not been unusual to get DNFs on this cache, but as suggested, there are too many in a row, so I'll have to go check on this.
Conditions were perfect this afternoon, we tried everything to find this cache. I crawled from where the cache ought to have been according to GPS (we marked this by having one above ground and one below) right to the block wall, and everywhere in between... no joy. I'm not sure where else I could've looked, worst thing about this cache was the slippery terrain around the piles, Km slipped over and cut her hand open on the concrete - put an end to our afternoon's caching, had to drive home to get it cleaned up. Would appreciate a cache check by owner after the list of DNF's... if we simply didn't think outside the box enough then no problem will try again.
Had a good look around and couldn't find, even though supposedly only a metre from it. Will return when tide a bit lower and try again. Nice coffee and muffin had there all the same
Well this one's been staring at me for a loooong time. Great autumn weather, tide times about right for an early afternoon trek, and an almost muggle free environment meant I could search in safety. I was still surprised a bit by where I found the cache though. Not quite what I had expected. TFTC, Biggles.
We knew this one was going to take us a while, due to muggle activity BUT it wasn’t too much of an issue, we trusted our GPS and it was quite accurate today. Boxhill was telling us about his previous visit to this spot when –gonefishing- said he found it. Nice spot for a cache, thanks for bring us here, must come back here and try the F&C as they are know to be quite renown. TFTC TNLNSL (1753)
We arrived at this cache with an open mind, not having checked the tides and not knowing how muggly it would be. As it turns out, the tide was just right and all the muggles were on the other side of the pier decking . I was pleasantly suprised to find that we had satellite reception at GZ which helped no end with pinning down the cache.
