Tasmania Trip Day 7. I only stayed in Queenstown overnight, but I got a great feel for the place and would love to spend more time here. My target today was Hobart, but although the total distance did not seem too high, the nature of some of the roads and the lack of towns made for a longer sparser trip than I had expected. There were plenty of great nature spots along the way and when I did at last reach a bigger spot, New Norfolk, I had an enjoyable time exploring the town. I had expected more in Hamilton, but alas did not even get lunch there. After getting into Hobart I checked into my motel in Battery point and headed out on foot. I visited the coastal section of the pint end finished in Salamanca place for dinner and a few virtual caches before heading back up the hill to my accommodation. I found a few good little overhangs, but was not able to find a cache here today. Thanks.Albida
Lovely memorial brought to life by a local who told us some historical stories. Sadly had no ideas on where to find the cache approaching from above and below. TFTH
We kunnen terugkijken naar 2 mooie weken in Australi!NLBokkie and I are going on holiday to Australia for 4 weeks. We will go to Tasmania for the first week and then travel around on the "mainland" for 3 weeks. Along the way I'll meet my niece, I haven't seen her for 50 years. It will be a holiday full of experiences......Our cache goal is to visit different countries. So we fly back to Dubai and forth via HongKong. We would like to score an FTF in Australia. We do that in Tasmania Then the webcam caches in Adelaide and the old caches between Adelaide and Sydney. Then we end up at the Mega in Canberra. A full program which a lot of fun!Unfortunately, after 2 weeks we have to end our trip with an earlier return flight to the Netherlands. My mother passed away and we have to go back. We can look back at 2 beautiful weeks in Australia!
Walking back from the sports ground I kept wandering along until I came to this monument up on the hill. I have come across a number of these memorials that women have had built to remember husbands, sons and now nephews who fought for our country and paid the ultimate price.Today especially being Australia Day , I took some time to sit, take in the beautiful view and be thankful for how lucky I am to call this amazing country home. So perhaps my search wasnt as intent as normal as I had other things on my mind.TFTC TasgunsmithKeep smiling
I have recently acquired a squid pole, so Zozetta and I planned on using it today for the SSF series near Gretna. Our plan was to drive up to Gretna and find the caches on the Lyell Highway between New Norfolk and Gretna, then find the caches at Gretna, before moving on to the SSF series. To start off with things went quite well, we had to miss one of the caches we planned to get as there were some muggles nearby, and we couldnt find a way to access one of the ones at Gretna, but we found all the others and then moved on to the SSF. We had found one in that series and were about to find another when Zozetta noticed that the fuel gauge was a bit low so we decided to drive to Hamilton to get petrol as that was the closest petrol station according to Google maps (Google maps was wrong and it was twice the distance to Hamilton than we thought it would be). It turns out that there isnt any petrol at Hamilton, just diesel, so we went to Bushy Park where there was petrol, but then made a wrong turn going back to Gretna and ended up heading towards New Norfolk instead! In the end we made it back to the SSF series and found nine caches in it, part of our fifteen for the day, and two DNFs. We didnt get as many find as we had anticipated, but I enjoyed all the different detours as they took us to some very nice locations that I wouldnt normally have visited. We missed this one when we were driving into Gretna as we couldnt see a way into GZ. We drove past again while on the way to Bushy Park and saw an entrance to the memorial, so we stopped to look for the cache. The cache was in the last spot that we checked, but it was eventually found. As others have said, the cache is missing a lid. Great memorial and views of the Derwent though, a favourite point from me.Thanks for the cache Tasgunsmith!
TFTC! What an interesting location. Be aware if youre coming up this way, no petrol at Gretna and Hamilton is diesel only!! We are turning back to Bushy Creek. Great spot and hide - thanks.
Izzy wasn't good with the wind at this one so it was all on Scoot to come up with the goods for this one, which he did
Found on route back from a work trip up Derwent valley. A very spectacular site for a memorial. Well done. Well worth the visit. Thanks for the added reason to pause here a while.

In Tassie for March, cutting a lap and finding a few caches along the way.
Free camping behind the pub tonight and wandered down here after a few beers.
The lid is missing but cache log is dry.
Tasgunsmith, I found Lest We Forget today. Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache.

This turned into a 4 terrain as the East is really supposed to be s/e. Got there in the end. Great local. Loved it. TFTFun
YAY - we found Lest We Forget. Find 9 of Day 6 of our Great Tassie 2023 Caching Adventure. A fabulous War Memorial - well worth the stop BUT you may need to have an Adventure Geobuddy with you who is prepared to do a Monkey Man impression to retrieve the container. Log was signed and we were off. TFTC

Adelaide to Hobart Road Trip
Day Four: Latrobe to New Norfolk
Weather: the big wet begins
A second cache claimed on a side trip further up the valley to claim Central Highlands LGA.
What a spectacular view from here and great spot for a memorial. Thank goodness there was no rain here otherwise I might have missed this one. Had a bit of trouble finding the cache at first, but was determined to claim this one, and knew I was getting close when I saw shards of fractured plastic. A replacement is still needed here; please keep this cache going somebody if the CO is no longer active.
Thanks for bringing me to this spot Tasgunsmith, a FP for this one.

An absolutely magnificent and beautiful spot. Thank you for bringing me here. The cache container has seen too many sunrises and has perished it requires urgent replacement.
Camping and caching in the old home town. Its a long time since I've walked the streets of Norfik. Went to New Norfolk Primary School many moons ago, but we won't go there ! Went to the market first thing, 6 caches before lunch, and now on a circuit to Bushy Park, Gretna and Hayes. I remember this landmark memorial from the times I drove back and forth to Zeehan back in the late 60's. So today I got a couple of stunning photos (I hope), and a cache as well !

After a fun day in Adelaide yesterday, we flew to Hobart this morning with an aim to do a short loop filling in some Local Government Areas. After picking up our hire car we started caching through our list. After a short stop at a nearby sandwich shop for lunch (yum) we continued on to this one. I did the walk/crawl around and made a nice quick find at GZ. Signed/Stamped the log, replaced the cache as found, then headed off to the next cache on the list.
Thanks Tasgunsmith !! Great location.

Fitzy_1965 and I decided to do a bit of a whirlwind holiday visiting family and caching along the way. We did three states in four days. Tiring but so worth it. We are just waiting for Western Australia to open up and then we will be there too!
Day 2 saw us getting up early again to catch a flight to Hobart. Grateful for my Uncle being chauffeur and getting us to the airport on time. It was a fantastic day of caching which included collecting a number of LGA’s but turned wet and blustery as we headed up Mt Wellington. We ended the day with dinner at the Drunken Admiral on Hunter St….a fantastic experience.
All caches were found quickly and easily unless otherwise stated. Thanks so much to all CO’s for your hides.

This one had me beat. It might just be me in that my mountain goat skills are non-existant.
What an awesome spot to pay one's respects.
Made my way up to this lovely spot with a killer view
Took pics naturally as it was just so stunning
A bit of a search and the cache was located and it's log was signed at 12:50 on Thursday 22/7/21.
The cache is damaged somewhat but it's contents are still good and dry.
TFTC and for showing me such a cool spot dedicated to our fallen.

Was a bit worried about rolling down the hill! Found it eventually! Awesome spot for a cache
Took a few minutes but obvious when I found it. Great spot and awesome view, TFTC
I found this yesterday while on a random road trip with budgietas.
He insisted we stop a moment and i wandered over and up for a gander.
Thanks tasgunsmith for hiding a cache at this deserving of locations so many years ago. Love reading the virtual logbook at so many names i recognize from other aussie places.

Out for an arvo solo drive, just because.
Turned around at Gretna and now caching my way back.
Great views from this fairly unique memorial, thanks for bringing me here.
After finding, signing and replacing, I then found an old 2cent coin as a bonus.
Cheers, EPs.

Favourite point from me for the location. It's worth stopping and making the short walk up here for the history and the view - and the cache is a bonus. Bit of a scramble to get it at the end but that made it all the more fun. TFTC
Found it was harder then we thought it be but all in good condition took a trinket and left on
Thanks for the cache Tasgunsmith.
With COVID19 restrictions being relaxed a bit this week, I was keen to get out for a bit of a drive this weekend. Decided to take a little drive north to see what the GeoGSP and I could find.
I've driven past this spot so many times and always wanted to stop, so today was the day.
A bit of a scramble at GZ which is interesting when you have a 30kg dog attached, but the cache was retrieved, log signed and cache returned. Wonderful location for this memorial.

This one was way trickier than expected! But still managed to find it... and both slipped on our arses trying to take the adventurous way down
Another one of many on our travels through Tassie, which is getting more and more difficult as everything closes down as a result of Covid-19
Memsec to the rescue , who generously offered to show us some of what Tas geocaching has to offer for a second day [^]
So off we went in the vague direction of Hamilton for some beauty and caching [^]
Nice easy find, cache is dry and in good condition [^]

T-Tech and I are down from Brisbane for a meandering holiday around Tasmania. We flew to Melbourne where we picked up the campervan and spent a day caching there, then took Spirit of Tasmania I to Devonport. Tick that one off the bucket list!
Coronavirus has cut short our holiday, and so we are staying in Hobart for three days before attempting to get back to Brisbane. Today we are taking a jaunt towards Hamilton with membsec, picking up a few very specific caches.
This was an extra as membsec stopped as we were going past. It's a glorious spot. We had a look at the memorial, then the view, and then we went to find the cache. TFTC, and for bringing us here, Tasgunsmith.

Found on our way to Hobart. Stretching the legs and looking for a T2... I would give it a little bit more, watch your step, it‘s going down deeply. TFTC

After an initial visit my self and shannonpc will not let it beat us we got it
We walked up to the top and thought it maybe over the side. Wandered down and along the bank, as Mr G has gammy knees and was due into hospital next day it was felt that at this time we leave this alone for another day.
Enjoyed day to trip around of town for some caches..
Freeze cold today..

Hi Tasgunsmith thanks for this lovely sized cache on top of the hill where the WW1 memorial is situated so that we may remember. The cache was bare so added a lion and hung on to the side of the cliff and logged. All good at GZ.
A Truely beautiful memorial.
Thanks for sharing this interesting spot.
Log needs replacing, as with previous comments.

Nice detour up this side of the river today with Lekker_Ding. Lovely views and a clever hide. Thanks Tasgunsmith
On our trip trough Tassie we want to made some smilies on our map.
The way go to Hobart and we pass this point. After a short search we could find the container.
Thank you for the cache and greetings from Germany send Moorhelmi

I did feel like an ibix too! Bring some good shoes and use the ibixtrail as a hint..! Easy find. Logbook is full (also forgot to bring a pen!) view is amazing!
I recently watched a documentary that showed Ibex climbing the near sheer face of a dam. I kind of felt that here.
With a couple of weeks annual leave, we have decided to bring ourselves down to Tassie for a break. Why Tassie? We have visited once before and loved it, but didn't have sufficient time to see much, and 2nd, Tassie was the only state/territory that we had not cached in, and 3rd, the weather is cooler than we have been experiencing in Victoria.
Day 4. After a long trip through the Pieman yesterday we finally came to rest at Queenstown and found some accommodation for the night. t was a hot night and we found our room was quite stuffy, with AGAIN no airconditioning (I know, we are spoilt). Left the window open - downside - we were right next to the outdoor area where others looking for a break from the heat gathered with a few cool beverages.
The morning was much fresher, with some showers of rain. Heading inland now after a lovely breakfast at the train station.
We made the trip to the top but the cache eluded us for some time. Must say I was somewhat distracted at randomly arriving outside the gates of Truffle Lodge. I had seen this resort on tv a few weeks ago and would have loved to have scheduled accommodation here but they were all booked. Was it an omen that randomly there may have been a bed available, I rang, and no. DANG, missed out.
Anyway, back to the cache, yes we found it. TFTC, SL and put snuggly back in place.

A lovely way to finish off my list of caches as I travelled from Strahan to Hobart today.
After a morning hiking around MT Field we headed northish towards the midlands. On a previous hot tip I made sure to stop off for a toilet break and lunch at the Gretna Green and I had heard that the Memorial here had one of the best views going. We certainly not disappointed, by the view nor the lunch.
I managed to get to the cache without incident and managed to do my business and get the stash back in its hidey hole safely. Pretty chuffed I found it so quickly because I reckon it could be overlooked easily.
We paid our respects briefly but wanted to get out of the sun, so off we headed back into the air con. Thanks for the cache go to Tasgunsmith, An incredible spot, much obliged for pointing it out.

In Tassie with family doing a short trip around this lovely island. We saw some amazing scenery, wildlife and visited some beautiful places while touring around in our motorhome. I took the opportunity to stop and grab any caches when we could stop. We only had a few DNF's and made some good discoveries and clever hides during the trip. We had some fun and laughs along the way.
This was an impressive memorial in a great location. It didn' take too long to get the cache in hand.
Thanks Tasgunsmith for placing the cache for us to find and doing the maintenance to keep it in play.

Tassie Trip Day 45 - After a nice relaxing day we wanted to go for a little drive in the area and the Derwent Valley Trail was a great way to explore the rive and area however it was not a very successful day with only 8/12 caches available and of those only 4 were found we really had a rather dissapointing day so the numbers for the finaly were not all obtained only found numbers at two caches so the mystery that we were chasing is a going to be a DNF as well.
What a wonderful location for the recognition of those who have fallen for us and a great place to just look around the area after admiring the scenary it was time to find that little thing we were here for and after a little scramble approached the GZ from the wrong spot eventually the log was signed and returned to its location.
Thanks Tasgunsmith for bring us to this place to honour those who have fallen. Lest We Forget.

This is a special location and why I love geocaching. I probable would have driven straight past here and the chance to pause and reflect is wonderful. How carefully our forefathers chose this exact spot to help us remember a war which finished almost 100 year’s ago.
Favourite for lots of reasons
