This was our turn around point today...6.5km from the car. Thankfully a straightforward find as it felt like a long walk back...after which we headed back to the bakery in Blackbutt. Thanks for a great day out, youngoldfella.
youngoldfella I found your cache Brisbane Valley Rail Trail #2 on 17/6/2024, 11:45AM. This is my find 6735 and find # 1 today. Took a while to locate. Had to reread previous logs to get an idea of where and what to look for. Thanks for the cache, mate! TNSLLN
Another stop along the trail and the container was soon spotted. All good here, log signed and replaced as found. A fav for my favourite container. Thanks youngoldfella for another one.
Whats Another Davinells Plan between friends of courseIve been counting down the daysIm so excited Our second day on the BVRT its only taken 6 months to recover from the first one Apparently that was the easy part Were moving North from Toogoolawah, which is not the way to cycle the BVRT, but Davinells has a plan and its all about the elevationsThis cycling thing is for a younger crowd Thanks youngoldfella
Quickly spotted once we went behind the shed. Thanks for the cache youngoldfella
Beardman75, Peppa and I set out to complete another section of the BVRT today. JDavs was once again our awesome support crew but this time she had the company of a muggle friend, soon to be converted cacher. We started in Toogoolawah and headed upin more ways than oneaiming to get as far as we could peddle until we couldnt peddle anymoremaybe if some of us had touring modeWe are part way up the big hill and everyone coming past seem to not be peddling and I keep peddling, I feel theres a better way to do this section. Stopping for this one gave us a good excuse for a short break, no trouble finding the nice sized container. Tftc youngoldfellaFind #5980
Yippee another smiley on our Easter Egg-venture. WallabyTim decided to stop here to put the drone up as it was such a beautiful spot. Luckily he turned the GPS back on or we would have missed searching for the cache. Lots of grass but still able to narrow down GZ. Thanks youngoldfella
Quick easy find. Cache contains 2x logbooks !!, both in good condition, & a lot of other rubbish. Shame that ppl leave junk in caches
I'm off for a weekend away camping at Lake Boondooma. I have my tent in the car, plus my bike too, intended for a side-mission along the BVRT. This reasonably last-minute choice to throw the bike in was not without gaps in planning. For one, I couldn't recall where the entrance to the BVRT is, or which end to even begin from. Parked in Moore, I decided to grab these two older geocaches if there was access where the trail crossed the D'Aguilar. So a few more kilometres to drive.Sure enough, at S26 52.411 E152 11.305 is a dirt road and what I'd later learn is the Allery Loop that originates on the BVRT. I parked up and walked down the latter to scout if it would all work out. Across a dry creekbed, and past about five goannas, it connected up, with 4.4km of rail trail to go. Back to the car, pull the bike out in four pieces, reassemble the bike, fill my water bottle and head off.Bouncing my way down the trail towards the BVRT I had three main thoughts. One was given it's middle of the day, it'll surely be only me out here. Two was that it's prime magpie season and I wondered if I'd get swooped. And three was I was again cycling a bloody rail trail; I'd done another rail trail earlier this year and after it took three days for the bruising to ease off, I swore I'd never again do such a thing. Cest la vie, here we go.Trundling down the main trail was pretty lovely. I was keenly aware that it was subtly downhill, so I knew it'd be savagely uphill coming home. Sadly, all the bridges are gone, so steep gullies require some zooming down and powering back up. I did pass a few other riders out, but no magpies. And despite the heat of the last day of September and the tinder-dry brown surrounds, it's a nice day and a great excuse to be outdoors, enjoying the world. After a couple of stops to "re-adjust" and check progress on the map, I arrived at GZ. I was pretty sweaty, and standing in the shade of a boldly green mango tree was a treat. A more thorough look at the listing and a bit of a look about had the geocache in hand. Hidden very appropriately, given the container! I signed the logbook at 11:40, removed some grubby swaps and replaced back as found.Cooled off as much as I was going to, it was the end of the line for me today. Time to turn around and face the uphill, summer reality of the return ride. Maybe someday, when the weather is cooler and I own a bike with battery assist, I'd love to do more of this trail! For today though, thank you for this taster and geocache, youngoldfella
Rode out a bit further then what we were planning to get this one. But could not find it. A great fire pit inside shed though.
Out today with Muggle65 and Brislions. It turned into a stunning day after a very chilly start. It was great to see a load of people using the trail. Thank you for the fun
Out today to grab a few on the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail. We had a few target today. Love the walk.

, Bris & I are back on the Rail Trail again. Not out today for a mammoth cache collecting day but for a strategic grab. This one was a little harder to find but came up with the chocolates today.
We celebrated our 21st wedding anniversary by riding our bicycles with our family of 6 along 100km of the rail trail, camping overnight at Linville We actually weren't planning on caching along the way, but the kids have eagle eyes for caches and had no trouble spotting this one. It's getting too hot to ride our bikes anymore so it's high time we find some caches again. It's been a long while since we have done this regularly and we were reminder it is a lot of fun.
Favourite point because of the size and and fantastic location of the cache, and we were with the while family, celebrating our anniversary and were reminded of why we started caching in the first place. Thanks!!

After spending waay too long at both the other caches in this little series, this was a pleasantly quick find.
Gps zeroed in on a nice big ammo tin.
Love it.
Great valley surrounding gz too.
Thanks youngoldfella for helping to break up the journey today with a geocache.

Day 4 of 10 – Moore to Benarkin – Uphill - Cache 4. From the location of GZ there were some really beautiful views. We decided to stop at this spot to have our lunch. A great break from riding the bikes for a bit. The cache was so easy to find and it really seems it shouldn’t be where it is as it is so open to everyone to find. Anyway, we left it where we found it even thought our co-ords would have put it somewhere else. I didn't know where to hide it or how to hide it so figured it might be where it should be. I really didn't know. It was a really lovely place to stop and great history lesson. TFTC.
A very warm and humid staff hike to the Linville and actually stumbled across this one.
I slogged away in the late afternoon heading uphill from Linville, where I was staying the night, on my first decent trial of my new bike. Bike was fine, me not so much. I've been looking forward to finding these caches since they were placed.
Oh, Youngoldfella,
My blessings on you fall,
For placing a cache here
Big enough for me to find without a GPSr!

Walked out along RT read the signboard. Some interesting bits about a former PM. Found hide easily enough...gave tin a good cleanout. Removed tattered junk etc. Many thanks YOF.

A little walk around and we had some luck. Also found a travel rock during our search that will continue on its journey.

A large cache. Wish I'd brought my fairy door but I'll return tomorrow and pop it in.
Today we rode the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail from Yarraman to Moore which provided the opportunity to seek out 8 geocaches of which I found 5, not being willing to spend more than a few minutes in each search. This cache was a straightforward find despite being several metres from the coordinates. Thank you Youngoldfella for installing and maintaining this cache.
This was a great location to stop and look for a cache I faffed about taking pics of Violet the Tabby while 2Wagtails located the cache Absolutely loving the ride through the forest and lots of traffic out here today on foot and two wheels.
I’ve never seen dome-shaped cattle grids before but they are fun to ping the back wheel off Look! I can fly!
TFTC YOF All is good with this cache.

While cycling along the Rail Trail with Ms Maddy today doing a multi we stopped for this one. After learning all about the little building’s history, we found the cache easily in its rusty home. All is in good order here.
Thanks for this cache Youngoldfella

This was a quick easy find. I was surprised to find another name in the logs dated yesterday as the most recent online log is last July. I decided not to do the other two caches on this stretch as I was quite fatigued and struggled just to get back up the hill to me car. I will have to come back another time for them.
Thanks for the cache Youngoldfella. This was find #4048.

Continuing our ride back up the hill to Benarkin, another nice excuse for a stop and to grab a cache. TFTC Youngoldfella.
We are nomads. Having left Perth WA in February 2014 we now live in our caravan and go wherever the will or caches take us.
Todays plan was to drop Mr Felix and his Geobike at Linville so he could ride back to Benarkin. We managed to grab a cache before and after too.
Nice work and nice to see an ammo box out here.

Certainly chose the right way to tackle these 3 caches as it was all downhill to Linville. Cache was soon found and retrieved the TB to continue its journey. Absolutely lovely ride and now off to the pub for a well earned beer and lunch. Unfortunately we arrived at 2.05 pm and they finish doing food at 2 pm - oh well we know for another time. They all deserve a favourite point for the ride and amazing scenery so we are adding it to this one. TFTC youngoldfella

Today we set off from Linville on our MtBs. hoping to find the caches along the way. At GZ we soon spotted the cache. It was a good spot for the cache. Thanks youngoldfella.
The Brisbane Valley Rail Trail series has taunted me for many many years. I had first eyed the series about 5 years ago now. The problem being I just don't "bike". Even though I have one, I recently found out the tyre was flat. I could get it fixed.... or I could just hoof it
The Bureau of Meteorology (which, from now on I will call the "Ministry of Spells and Fairies") told me today was to be simply overcast - so I decided to tackle this little series of caches. As I arrived in Linville, it was apparently the Ministry of Spells and Fairies had told porky pies - it was teeming rain.
I had a parka, walking boots, and a GPSr - and I was parked at start of the hike - I decided to just go for it.
I set off on the very familiar track. Captain Terror and Gaz from Gaz'n'Kab had walked this part a few weeks ago - but we decided it was too far to do in the late afternoon to do the series. A few push bikers were out and I made my way along the winding path.
I don't regret doing the trail on foot - I got to see a lot more of what is around me rather than just concentrating on the track in front of me. Despite the fact that the railway itself has been removed, you still get a feeling of the history of the area. I had an enjoyable walk looking at the surrounding landscape.
Finally, my GPSr told me I was close to the cache. I saw something up ahead and decided GZ would have to be it. I arrived in a little shed and took shelter from the rain. For a little area obviously used for horses, the shelter was remarkably clean inside. I examined the area. Hmmmm. Nada.
I decided to widen my search and I soon found the handsome container. Hats off to the general public who have obviously left this beast in place. I signed the log and returned the cache as found. It was in good condition.
The series has been very enjoyable so far - despite the rain. Not sure why this cache doesn't have a favourite - but it does now TFTC youngoldfella

Great day out on the trail Good to find this one as no success with #3 due to coord not jelling with our phones. TFTC
Up early and Enjoyed our walking time in from the Linville freecamp birding along the way, What a great area ! We made it to the rest spot and really grateful for the bench seat to drop our bags, rest & take in the view. Rest over the search for the cache began and after searching a few spots the container was located .
Signed logbook 2/04/2016 7:45 am and replaced all as found.

I was walking the BRVT with a small group. We weren't particularly caching, but the guys didn't mind taking a seat while I darted off to look for this one. I hadn't been lucky at #3 and was a bit anxious, but a quick search and I had the cache in hand.
Nice hide in and interesting spot on the trail. Thanks YoungOldFella.
We had had a great walk from Yaraman and had come across a lot of fantastic birdlife. I mentioned the Black Cockatoos in the last log, but there were bee-eaters, wrens, quails and many more about. The birdsong was incredible higher on the track, really wonderful.
We also noticed some kangaroos and of course the cattle (and their prolific calling cards).

Walked in to check on this one. I know it is frowned upon for a CO to log a find on their hides. Need something to power me on to do this walk with my sore legs for a maintenance trip. Apologies.

Number 2 for the day whilst cycling and caching with ChrisO556 and IrishMcphee. Stunning view and a really cool little site! Shame it wasn't summer there might have been a mango or two. )
A great excuse to have a wander around this cool GZ. Beautiful view, shame it wasn't mango season!

T-Tech and I and our son-in-law joined ruzzelz, Brother Colin, teamdfl, and culture50 and his partner, for an epic ride along the BVRT today. We set off from Linville railway Station and this was our next stop. Nice to see an ammo can out here. Continuing on to Blackbutt, and hoping to go on to Yarraman, then returning to Linville. A good ride so far. TFTC, youngoldfella.
Out with a few caching mates for a day of geocycling. The trusty crew of Ruzzelz, Culture50(+1), Brother Colin, T-Tech and IolantheK (+1) and myself departed Linville station almost on schedule to ride to Blackbutt and maybe on to Yarraman if all was going well. This was our first group hunt for the day. Some previous finders in the group, but most of us added our names today. A very sedate ride to this point along the extremely flat trail. ;-P
Enjoying our first cycle touring adventure along the BVRT. Enjoyed meeting some others from the Bribie Is BUG who also found the cache. Great amount of practical goodies in the cache. TFTC
I've been wanting to do these couple of caches for quite a while so when invited up to Linville for a couple of days by friends I knew what I'd be doing. Due to the recent HOT weather I set of (walking) at 4.00am this morning and stumbled along in the dark till early morning light lit up the track. What a fantastic walk this is. A nice clear track and because it was originally a rail track, NO HILLS to climb. I made good time despite stopping often to take in the beautiful country side, birds, kangaroos and of course cattle. Got to GZ and soon located cache. There was two logs with entries so I spent some time reading, relaxing and snacking before heading on to No3.
I am on my way west then south to make my way home from Somerset dam.
Just a little detour to grab a couple of caches. Good thing I brought the MTB.
I started a Linville and was having such a good time I cycled right past the first cache along the trail. I'll get it one the way back.
Thanks for the cache. It is dry and in good condition.

Out and about heading to Blackbutt for an Orienteering event all weekend. We decided to stay an extra night so that we could do two of these caches. We had a couple of plans on how to reach these but two of the planned routes didn't work out due to the roadworks. We had heard that we could hire some bikes in Linville so decided to head back to Linville. We went to the station and met a person who said that there wasn't a place to hire officially but there were two bikes at the station that we could use. We then discovered that the tyres were flat so a hunt for a pump went on. Eventually the shopkeeper across the road had a compressor to pump up the tyres but that wouldn't work until he short cut the circuit. Two bikes ready to go.....noooo, one chain had a split and came off, but the house next to the station let us take their bike. So an hour later we are off to hunt down 2 caches. Oh what fun we had. Passed a lady with 2 dogs and then saw two farmers herding some cattle. We arrived at GZ and we searched and searched but we couldn't find the cache....on a better look eventually found the cache, just in time to beat the cattle that were coming along the track.

Now this one we did find after taking in the view and the gorgeous old structure that is sitting on the edge of the track just begging for you to photograph it. Hopefully I have got some good photos and will link them in the near future.
This was a great day out. Perhaps next time we will leave the arthritic 9yr old dog at home but he too made it all the way up to cache 3 and back, we estimate he did about 12 kms, which is no mean feat (for the humans either)
Loved this area very much. Thanks so much for the day out.

Returned for another ride along the trail and did a check on the cache on the way up. Lots of muggle entries in the log and it seems word of mouth has lead to many people seeking out the cache as part of the journey.
Cool and overcast at Linville this morning.
Perfect bike riding weather, but rain is forecast later in the day ...

"Welcome to our live coverage of the Tour de Benarkin.
Team ruzzlez has been setting the pace since the start of the climb to Le Col de Noir Derriere and is now approaching the 18 kilometres to go banner.
Team If has been closing the gap.
I don't think the breakaway will survive"
"And there it is, the leader has been caught.
Wait they're slowing down... a natural break ?
No ! they have stopped for a geocache break [:o]"
"If is showing remarkable calmness while looking for the prize with no sight of the team car anywhere !!
He's found it and signed the logbook to claim the Smilie Jersey"
"If has taken the Rambling Rosie travel bug with him."

About time to check on this one and its 3 mates. The committee and Councils have certainly done some good work on improving the trail and the rest stops.
Rode up the Rail Trail on a hot afternoon and stopped to drop off a TB from Japan.
The new keyless gates make the going a bit easier.
There are 2 new rest areas along the way.
The lower one is near to where the walking track from Commissioners Flat Lookout descends any joins the rail trail. This one has a composting Loo.
The next 2 upstream creek crossings now have concrete causways, although recent rain has eroded the approaches to them. Still crossable though.
The next rest area is between the Moore-Blackbutt main road underpass and the start of the pine plantation towards Benarkin. No loo at this one.

Rode the mountain bike up from Linville, a fairly easy ride up but easier on the way back. I remember when knightsy put these out and I have finally got there. Thanks for keeping them going.

Today the target was to complete the cycle of the Brisbane Valley Rail trail. This was my 3nd stop for the morning and I had certainly warmed up by this stage and was looking to shed cycling gear after my 10 degree morning start.
There is certainly lots of native flora still resident on the rail corridor on the way up to and beyond this spot.
Keys are no longer required to pass through this section but there are plenty of gates to open (and close) note make sure you close each gate properly as the catches are leave a little to be desired and farmers will not appreciate stock being able to stray from careless trail users.

Walked in to check on number 4 so I thought that I would check the others as well whilst I was close.
Found with the Oyster Point Scouts, hiking from Blackbutt to Linville on the old train line. Great spot for lunch. After this, we had to dance around the several fires burning around the cuttings.
Checked on this one and the other three close by as it is a good walk or ride into these. All OK.
Have contacted GC.com and am in the process of taking this cache over as owner to look after for Knightsy's family. Knightsy no doubt will be looking down on us with a smile.
Found at 0940 today. Took Barrus TB. Left Sharpie mini pen and toy ball. TFTC. Nice walk and not hard to find. GPSr took me straight to it.
