Searched for a good we while but gave up as some muggles were beginning to take notice and we figure we'd need a shovel to search harder given all the rocks we'd looked under. Looks like someone had resemble done the garden so the cache might've been removed.
Last time in this area there were multiple dnf. We didn't look because of that. It has been found easily over the years but not by us.
Really not sure how I can't find this one. Seems like it should be super simple but, alas, I can't find it.
TFTC, a while ago since we found these so took me a bit to remember how to upload from our gps.
Spring holidays! Golden Bay here we come.
Dad, the legend made the find. We've missed out on this in the past, so victory was sweet.
Glad we checked out the museum and it's visitors book. Something in there for every cacher.

A quick find on a big day planned looping up to Motueka and then back to Nelson. The container lid was missing a clip but luckily we had one that fit it. All good to go again. Thanks for the cache
Found this cache today on our way to Westport. Put our TB stamp in the logbook.

Recorded a DNF last time I tried this one but no trouble today. Had to be really discreet though. Muggle central!! Thanks BuzzTasman!!
visiting from Canada - thanks for getting us to stop here
very interesting story

Found it! Our driving tour continues. We are on our way to Hokitika and enjoyed coffee, chocolate cake and a cache at this little town. Great history lesson! Too bad the train line was dismantled! Very tastey chocolate cake from the cafe across the road! Quick find once at GZ. TFTC SL Cheers from Pippin69 & the Travelling Muggles from Melbourne!
Out for a day's caching today, on a loop from Wakefield, through Tapawera and Dovedale.
We have stopped to look at this 'station' a couple of times on previous (pre-caching) visits, so knew of teh history and likely location. Tried to look discrete whilst rummaging for this. Just needed to approach from the right direction to make the grab.
Thanks

Heading into the direction of Motueka today and collecting some geocaches on our way. TFTC
Attending NZMCA rally and wandered over to this cache to add another smiley face to our record..tftc
In Tapawera for the 'Music in the Mountains' Rally. Making time for a cache or two. Thanks for bringing us to this spot and for leaving a cache for us to find.
Today it was time for leaving Motueka and drive towards Murchison and further on to Westport. On the way we made some stops and found some caches .
Even strong and determined women can`t stop the closure of such a Railway. That`s the way, it goes.
The box was easily found. Thanks for the cache.

Well, every wellrounded cacher should have a stop at Tapawera, shouln't he?
For us it was the chance to learn about some interesting history, to get some beer for the following evenings before they close (sadly they had no dark one anymore) and stretch a little bit at this beautiful, silent place.
And of course a railway station named "Kiwi", although closed (see history).
We saw some very strange marker on the ground, not even close to the cache.
We continue from here to Collingwood.
In: Personal AWC and a Favourite Point for this beautiful place with it´s interesting and in some way heartwarming story.
Out: Butterfly.

Found it with kids at lovely lunch spot. Dropped off trackable and took another. Thanks
Found lovely wee town dropping off crocs track able and picking up a banana track able
A plan was hatched to try and grab a number of caches, in excess of 120 if possible. I had already found a load between Renwick and St Arnaud but consulting the map around St Arnaud area showed some semi power trail drive by caching opportunities. Fellow Manawatu cacher the Seagnoid was asked if he was interested and a resounding yes was the answer. So the car was fuelled up at very early o'clock and provisions for munching were also loaded. An 0630 start was the plan and the day came to its conclusion around 2130 after approx. 15 hours of driving and caching.
Outcome was a very successful figure in excess of 130 caches which constitutes best day ever (for both of us), best week, month and year too. Over 500kms driven today and man I feel tired but need to make a start logging the finds, and DNFs. Thanks to all the C Os involved in making our day such a great one. Nearly all caches were well maintained, interesting and accurately plotted. There were bellbirds, beech trees, pies and water, sealed roads, gravel tracks, no sandflies (thankfully), rivers and bridges and creeks and bridges and streams and bridges and much conversation about all things caching
A great day out in good company and all made possible by the efforts of the hiders.
T F T C to all the cache owners. We mostly signed as C/S or Capp/Seag or other combos

[green] Capperz called me up saying he wanted to get his ruby Busy Cacher badge, and try for 120 caches in a day. I said YES PLEASEE!!, as I too had tried this once before but only achieved 103 before night defeated me and Edvern in Auckland last year. A successful day, with over 130 caches found in 14.5 hours and 500km. Also tiring - I went to bed as soon as I got home, despite it not being dark yet (yes, we could have cached some more, but the next objective is 180 caches, and there was no way we would have achieved that!). Alas, I had to leave all the planning to Capperz, and he produced a great little plan, listing all the target caches (and more) with which way to turn at next intersection after a cache - a great way to plan a back road travel.
The day was cool, cloudy, with a little drizzle. Perfect caching weather - the weather kept most of the muggles away from the muggle areas.
Thanks to all the COs for a great day out exploring the back roads of the Marlborough region!
Logs signed as CS or occasionally as CapSeag.
The caches along this old rail line remind me of my rail series in the Manawau. There I have 40 caches, all placed at railway stations. For all except 3 the station no longer exists, and for maybe 80% of them, like here, neither does the rail line. Each cache researches the station, how and why the rail line came into being, any significant events and why it died out. Photos, if there are any. And I look at this line, sometimes see old station remnants (I now have a pretty good eye for this)(pretty easy to see them here!) and want to place more caches. Alas, too far for maintenance for a Seagnoid and his bicycle. And anyway, I have confirmed that the Manawatu used to include the Horowhenua, so I have to extend my series up north a bit first...
Why is this station named "Kiwi"? a bit of research later - ah, it does not belong here, there is was nearby settlement called Kiwi, just north of Tapawera. The station was moved here after the lines were ripped up. A bit more research via google maps - ah - the railway actually missed Tapawera, passing through on the north edge town.

On a big mission up to Nelson over Show Weekend with Purdiepurdie, Karma Reprint and Team_Gaters we signed our cache finds as PKTT the 'power packet' but we called ourselves the 'G4'. We headed off on Friday morning at 4.30am and made our way to Nelson today. We drove heaps, laughed heaps, found heaps of caches and poke our noses here and there. It was a great day we didn't stop until about 9.30pm for a cuppa and relax and getting ready to do it all again tomorrow!
Quick one... onto the next. I fuelled up as the team headed over.
Thanks for the cache.

TFTC. Out to play for the weekend with the destination of Nelson. Caching crew on board were Karma Reprint, Team_Gaters and TheWanglers, logged as PKTT for this trip. Gosh did we have fun looking for caches, most of which we found, in this very beautiful part of our country.
I was delighted to find this cache as I had DNFed it 2 years ago. It was so quick to find today and exactly where I thought it should be.
Thanks BuzzTasman for placing the cache.

I must have attempted this atleast a couple of times on various trips, always been unable to try very hard due to people in and around the building. Today the closest person was over at the four square so good to go. TFTC (1362)
Found on the drive north to Takaka from Christchurch for a few days there with family during my annual leave.

This was one of the most epic weeks ever, and definitely my most epic caching week ever.
Me and mum headed up on a holiday north to Nelson and very wider surrounds. In total during the trip, we found almost 500 caches! (470 odd I think, but final results are yet to be in! ) We covered about 3000 odd km I think too. Crazy! And had our absolute best caching day ever too at 160 found. Spend 9 days travelling, caching, and having the best time ever!!
So sorry about not so epic logs, as otherwise this would probably take me the rest of my life to log, especially with two big events to organise coming up! Eeek!!
Almost every single log we signed as 'Team Polak' to avoid needing to write out both usernames taking up space on logsheet - as well as precious caching time!! Haha.
This was it - one of the caches on our big day

For the sake of sanity we set off with sonia26642 for a crazy geocaching trip, aiming to cache until we drop. The main destination was Nelson and the ‘surrounding’ area, but then we ended up covering a few miles in three northernmost regions, plus a few in Canterbury. We were signing/stamping the log as 'Team Polak' or ‘TP’ for the two of us on this trip to save logbook space. We found a lot of different caches, city ones, road side, park side, up a hill and on an island, and we enjoyed every single one of them. It was good to be a professional thingfinder for a few days!
Today was to be our biggest day. S planned the route to cover the most possible easy to get P&G’s but we ended up not limiting ourselves to only those. D2.5? Why not? Let the brain have a bit of fun! D3? I am sure we can get there quickly!
I was sent out in pitch dark to fetch this one, just to realise that there was a perfectly good road leading right up to it...
We had great fun and are grateful to all CO’s who placed caches for us to find, and help restore our sanity before returning to our other non-geocaching lives!!

We managed to get a couple of beanies from the Four Square Store across the road and then headed off to the relocated Kiwi. Clues soon had us at GZ and a quick fossick turned up this popular cache. Thanks Buzz!
Back to Quinney's now and get ready for a big day tomorrow as we intend to work our way from Tapawera through to Glenhope and then back to Quinney's. It's going to be a COLD night. : {

#7989. A good size cache, which took a bit of hunting out. Our first visit to Tapawera since moving to Nelson / Tasman. TFTC.
We stopped by the "supermarket" to get an ice cream as it was such a lovely day then wandered across the road to read the interesting info boards. After reading about the women sitting on the tracks, I looked at my GPSr to see that I was 2m away from a cache! Didn't take long to "track" down. TFTC.
Third time lucky. Near dusk so no one around giving us time to look. Didn't need it in the end as M found it straight away. Don't know why we couldn't find it last time.
We came, we saw, we sat and we found. Nice spot and well worth stopping to have a look around. TFTC
Found on a short trip to Ngatimoti. Finally found this one after 2 DNFs. TFTC
Easy find while in Tapawera for the NZMCA Music in the Mountains rally (along with 400 plus other motor homers). Fantastic weekend, thankyou Tapawera for fantastic hospitality. No Swaps
Did not find on my first attempt - too many muggles about and no gps with me. No luck on my second attempt looking at four o'clock in the morning in the dark. Found it on the third attempt!
Well hidden in such an obvious place.
Well hidden in such an obvious place.
It is absolutely hosing down and I was hoping for find but alas it was not to be. I did find a likely place for it though…Cool history and location for a couple of photos. I've been passing through Tapawera for most of my life but I've not stopped and I never realised a railway used to run through here. I'll be back in September 2014. I'll keep a watch on this one.
No cache here but we did find the plum tree beside the building heaving with ripe plums ! Does pay to have a 6'5" person with us!
Despite the explicit hint, this one defeated us today. We did find a nice, cache-sized, hidey hole, but it was empty. Still an interesting location.
Day 1 of our family holiday, and already our first DNF .
A bit gutted about this, as our GPS had been playing up big time, forcing us to unknowingly drive by plenty of other caches, leaving them undiscovered. On the bright side, we had a lovely wee picnic here. Hopefully we'll be back in Tapawera on a quieter day (sports and a funeral seemed to make for a busy Saturday in this wee township).

Tried to look for this on the way to Kahurangi National Park... no luck for us today...
Wow, probably looked for 45 mins for this one. we were so determined to find it after others had found it. Too many muggles around to look real hard though. Oh well.
Came here on the way north to Motueka this afternoon. Had a quick look through the museum with its interesting history. Found the cache after a short search, the hint was a little confusing. Signed log, TFTC and for introducing me to this bit of local history.
Traveling through New Zealand in February with the Campervan we visited your Cache.

Slight detour on our way to Blenheim looking for caches and some sunshine. Finally we have found both but the cache took longer to find than it should have TFTC.
Finally found this cache after a couple of tries in summers gone by. And lovely to make the acquaintance of holymu and hazedarus. (Good to see you had success with The 3 R's further up the valley, guys). Picked up a travel bug. And I believe this is our cache number 100! Yippee!

A truely historic place. As quiet as Tapawera can be today was muggle central. Stealth still made the day. We met "the Cheetahs" too. So nice to meet cachers and exchange experiences. TFTC
We were sitting in the shade ready to sign the log for this cache when a young lad arrived, GPS in hand, followed by his dad and they were on the same mission as us. These were the second geocachers we had met "on the job" today. Nice to meet The Cheetahs. TFTC.

A convenient stop which allowed us a breather and two caches to boot. An interesting read about the protestors of the railway closure. Cache was found not where initially expected but found it never the less! TFTC

Found after second attempt while Mrs getting the obligatory ice cream on a typical Tap scorcher -29 plus degrees? TFTC
It started raining while we were stopping at this cache so we did not take a long break here. Nice to read something about the railway history. Thanks.

Passing through Tapawera on my way to Chch, picked up a TB a wee while ago and was keen to drop it somewhere in the region before I got further South, hopefully he likes it here. It's a lovely little spot that's been well done up. I've stopped here once or twice before to eat ice cream. TFTC
Thanks to take me to this place. It was interesting reading. I was searching for a while at wrong place, but finally I did it:-) greetings from Czech republic.

We had a ggod look but just couldn't locate the cache. A tree has been felled here recently. Lots of muggles coming and going too.
There was a meeting of locals in the nearby hall so I was not able to have an extensive hunt. Will revisit another time.
Loved the location, stopped to have refreshments but very sad to say we DNF cache. However we took some photos of our latest addition to our caching team as we did find a perfect location.
