School holidays and the perfect weather for a walk. I've wanted to do these caches for ages. We stopped at the Blackbutt Bakery for morning tea before heading out. I read the description and through the logs for possible tips and found Captain Terror's parking spot at S26 52.411 E152 11.305. This is what we decided to do and it turned out to be the best decision. The Allery Trail leads from here a short distance to the BVRT and we were on our way. At GZ the northern bank does have a barbed wire fence several metres down but we found a section we could scoot under the bottom wire. Considering the fence and that the cache is closer to the southern entrance, this side is probably better to descend. Since there were no bats to disturb, we did end up walking the whole way through to have a look so. Such a cool spot. TFTC youngoldfella.
youngoldfella I found your cache Brisbane Valley Rail Trail #3 on 17/6/2024, 12:15PM. This is my find 6736 and find # 2 today. Wow, how did you know there was a tunnel there? Made my way down through the lantana. Once down the bottom, was greeted by a large concrete tunnel. When you look through you can actually see the cache. No bats today, must of gone on holidays. Grabbed the cache, signed logbook and returned. Returned back to the track the same way. A favourite from me. Thanks for the cache, mate! TNSLLN
Continuing along the trail this morning and I was pleased to have a previous finder with me for this one! The lantana was thick on the way we went (couldnt see another way down). We finally reached the tunnel which was bat free, maybe it was too cold in there for them. The cache was spotted, log signed and replaced as found. The way back up to the bikes was no easier but it is all part of the adventure. Thanks Dick (dickbev) for leading the way. Thanks youngoldfella for the unusual hiding place.
Whats Another Davinells Plan between friends of courseIve been counting down the daysIm so excited Our second day on the BVRT its only taken 6 months to recover from the first one Apparently that was the easy part Were moving North from Toogoolawah, which is not the way to cycle the BVRT, but Davinells has a plan and its all about the elevationsOnly found thanks to the determination of my cycling companionsThanks youngoldfella
Beardman75, Peppa and I set out to complete another section of the BVRT today. JDavs was once again our awesome support crew but this time she had the company of a muggle friend, soon to be converted cacher. We started in Toogoolawah and headed upin more ways than oneaiming to get as far as we could peddle until we couldnt peddle anymoremaybe if some of us had touring modeThe first side we went down we encountered a barbed wire fence so we went the other side and pushed through the lantana and found our way down. We headed in and disturbed about a million little bats, Beardman75 retrieved the container and I replaced it so we shared the attack of the bats. Tftc youngoldfellaFind #5981
We made our way down and in and were attacked by a million angry bats. Thanks for the cache youngoldfella
Unfortunately we did not plan our attack on these caches well at all. Admittedly I (MrsWallaby) assumed they would all be easy finds along the BVRT! So without having looked at DT's or read any logs/descriptions/hints, we were not prepared for bush-bashing. At least this DNF gives us a reason to come back to such a beautiful location
We do love this section of the BVRT (Blackbutt to Linville) and today while passing we decided to stop and check out this cache. Boy that was a challenge getting down to this ones level but glad we did. What a cool location. Many tiny bats in here. And a nicely placed cache too. All nice and dry. Thank you.
I'm off for a weekend away camping at Lake Boondooma. I have my tent in the car, plus my bike too, intended for a side-mission along the BVRT. This reasonably last-minute choice to throw the bike in was not without gaps in planning but some on-the-fly research had me enter the BVRT at S26 52.411 E152 11.305 via the Allery Loop. From here it was the gentle downhill (aside from gully crossings) to [Brisbane Valley Rail Trail #2](https://coord.info/GL1AWG7AG). As always, I went for the farthest first, and geocache my way back. Given it was a gentle downhill on the way from the car, it was a savage uphill on the way back. And my bike is not the fanciest of vehicles, and my legs are not the most practised at pedalling. But another icon on the map has my attention.Head down and grinding on, while trying to admire the view and ensure I say hello to cows I pass. In the cutting, I lean my bike up and have a closer look at the description. There is geotrails heading up the cutting, so I was surprised when the arrow and hints pointed very much the other direction. No worries.Out here alone in summer and half buggered already, the prospect of an off-track adventure didn't thrill me. But I didn't put this much effort in to baulk at maybe tripping over down a slope. I headed down. And I don't know how you came across this place, but it's damn cool! Thankfully the hint (or a long ago owner log) saw me right and I was on the correct side. At 11:50 I marked the smiley and replaced as found. Not yet halfway back and I'm nearly out of water. It's damn hot out here. Thankfully the tank at the rest area farther along was refreshingly cool. I passed a few groups of cyclists before I got to the car, and was super happy to be back at motorised transport. Now, off to the famous bakery, with a smile on my face and wet t-shirt! Thanks for this geocache, youngoldfella
Attempted this caches years ago with no success. Camping at Linville for a few nights with BigRed02 and they were boasting that this was one of the few caches that they had found but I hadn’t. They kindly offered to help me turn the frown upside down.
The lantana is very thick getting to GZ which probably lifts the terrain rating a bit and there are quite a few bats which also added to the difficulty but finally I have a happy face in the map.

Out and about today with Muggle65 and Brislions. Started the day with a few layers on but we are down to t-shirts now and it is beautiful in the sun. Muggle65 announced that we had reached GZ but it was clearly not correct. Brislions had a listen and we made our way to a new spot. No bats for us but a lovely dry cache was found. A fave point from me even though we had to retrace our steps to locate BLs glasses Thank you for a really fun cache
Out today to grab a few on the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail. We had a few target today. Love the walk.

, Bris & I are back on the Rail Trail again. Not out today for a mammoth cache collecting day but for a strategic grab. As the other two were chatting as they walked, I decided to check our location & found we were at the GZ while they continued walking. It was obvious by the lack of good hiding places we weren’t in the correct spot to find a cache.
I loved the hide. It took a little bit to find, but a great pickup by Brislions had us where we needed to be.

Super hot at gz today with no shade nearby to be found.
Had a bit of a scramble both sides but was getting hot, frustrated easily and hungry so pulled the pin .
I'll be back.

Day 4 of 10 – Moore to Benarkin – Uphill - Cache 5. Oh my goodness me. Finding this spot would have to be one of the highlights of my 10 days on the BVRT, link trail and KKRT. Wow, those bats were just gorgeous. We stood in the dark and let them fly all around us. It was beautiful to hear them flapping past and to feel the wind blow on our faces. We were a little stumped when we first looked at GZ and where it put us – totally perplexed. Then we realised where we needed to be and then it all made sense. Cache is hiding in a top spot. Thanks for showing us this part of the rail trail. A FP from us.
I to slide down the hill found tunnel ,looked around found cache..then realised I had to get back up the hill.
What a great cache. With help from previous log (thanks) we slid down on our tails and discovered this little wonder. A couple of bats not so happy for us to visit but a great find!!
Walked out along the RT for this one
Came to gz...went down left h side of track through lantana and long grass etc. Found the tunnel......nothing just inside....lots bats further in. Had a scrabble at the top outside , no luck. Went along to the next hide...was able to get patchy service to contact CO. Was quickly pointed in slightly different direction. Went down..under fence...Found location. Could see hide hanging down. Pulled on fishers hat and scarf to cover face...braved the bats. Phew WHAT A HIDE!
A fav point for this. ps....How did you know about this construction anywayYOF?

I agree Me Maddy. Not a great lover of snakes and this looks very much like snake Territory
After a stop at a nearby cache we made an executive decision to sail past here. Same prob with cycling shoes, steep slope and the wretched prickles
We are nomads. Having left Perth WA in February 2014 we now live in our caravan and go wherever the will or caches take us.
Todays plan was to drop Mr Felix and his Geobike at Linville so he could ride back to Benarkin. We managed to grab a cache before and after too.
No bats today. Found the cache using the hint, but YOF must have go gadget arms. I had to enter could not reach from end as it was quite a bit more than 1metre.
Fave point for this cache.

First of all, I would like to thank John for his quick reply on my last DNF on this cache, so armed with this new information I once again cycled down the rail trail from Benarkin. Parked up the trusty geobike and clambered down to ground level and towards GZ where I found what I was looking for but not where I thought it would be. A very clever idea indeed, deserves a favourite point for the adventure. Now off to the Linville hotel for lunch. TFTC youngoldfella
Very disappointed after a round trip of 213 km to have a DNF - I should have probably read the previous logs more thoroughly first. I didn't understand where to search even though I was standing on GZ!! Could the CO please give me a hint for next time? Cheers
Cycling along the BVRT picking up a few caches. Never thought I would be pleased to have a lantana bush to get through for something to hold onto on the steep decent. Thanks Youngoldfella.
2 finds then one DNF and I spoke to the DNF'er and that cacher was not in the right spot. Received a note from GC.com that this one needs attention. Read the description and the additional hint. the old rail bed track is not ground level. You need to be at ground level in the creek on the northern side of the old rail bed. A torch could be handy. I was down checking on #4 6 days ago and checked this one and it is still there. Have fun. You can come in from the southern side of the track and walk through the Storm pipe that carrries a creek but beware there may be bats. You should not disturb them coming in from the other end. The hide is less that a full arm length inside the pipe. end.

TFTC DNF trying to clean up a few caches Iv missed over the years out and about with miss millie geodog will need to come back to do this one
Finally. Our third attempt. And yes, it's difficult to locate and yes, now we saw those little cute bats.
And another long no loved cache for us!
A fav point for this wonderful nature encounter.

Tried this one as well. No luck. Have to come back one day. No bats there. Tftc
3 of us Searched for a while with no luck. Will have the to ride this section of the trail again.
I had no luck with this one. I had a good look around but it was getting late so I called it quits. Maybe next time.
Today we decided to tackle this cache again after a hint from the co. We left from LInville on the bikes. On arriving at GZ we began our search. It wasn't long before we found the cache. I can't believe we missed it last time. Thanks youngoldfella for bringing us here.
After arriving at Gz we began our search. The GPS wasn't much help. We spent about a half hour and it still alluded us. So we decided to press on for the next one and have another look on the way back, same again we didnt find it. I shall have to read some of the logs and come back sometime. Thanks anyway for the adventure.
I had noted the DNFs on this cache and contacted the kindly youngoldfella about it. He let me know the whys and wherefores. I was fairly convinced I could get this one.
So after leaving #2, it appeared I had a problem. It seemed I didn't wait long enough for the GPSr to give a correct reading. Consequently, this cache was a lot closer than I realised.
So much so that I had apparently sailed straight past it. Though my GPSr indicated another area very similar to what I was expecting. Doesn't look like anyone has been off the path here for years though? Oh well - I will check it out. Of course, I found nothing, despite my efforts. Damn - not a a DNF after all this walking?
However, the GPSr had now changed its mind and said 440m or so back.. wha...? The GPSr also said that the now-archived #4 was only 127m the other way. Onward. Let's see what's happening here.
I did end up finding #4. With new-found hope the GPSr was finally right, I headed back to #3. It wasn't like I wasn't going that way anyway 35m from the cache - it was looking good. Another similar area that youngoldfella described.
I going to be deliberately evasive here. I don't want to spoil youngoldfella's cache. When I neared GZ, I smelt something. And I knew instantly what it was. Oh lord. Not a fan. Not a fan at all! I saw the GPSr in the distance and cautiously and deliberately made my way to the container. I signed the log quickly and bolted. Success!
There's nothing really bad here - it's all matter of what you're comfortable with.. and I wasn't.. at that moment
The cache was in excellent condition.
The walk back was long. From this point I guess it would have been about 7.5km. When it's raining and you're cold.. and you're sore... you start to feel it. I was so happy to get back to that car. I was even happier than I had parked it on high ground I didn't fancy a visit from the RACQ to tow a car out.
An excellent series of caches. A favourite point for showing me a wonderful area and more history. TFTC youngoldfella

No luck here today with HRH54, looked for ages, four pairs of caching eyes didn't find this one. Cattle had been through that ra and trampled the ground below the track, so not sure if it is there still? Maybe we all had cache blindness!
Out with JUJU54 biking the rail trail. Had a brilliant ride and thought would grab a couple of caches along the way. This one stumped us as both our devices had GZ in the same spot on the side of the track. Increased our search area but no luck. There were 4 of us but sadly had to leave empty handed....hopefully next time we pass thru we'll have better luck.
Set out from the #2 in the series another pleasant stroll at this time of the morning, taking in the flora and fauna. After reading the past 5 logs Mrs.K. and I arrived at the GZ expecting to find a trestle bridge, so our pre conceived ideas were dashed , but still caching is full of surprises after reading the hint we followed our instincts , a short slide and we could hear water, upon inspection it wasn't , once I was there the cache was easily located , Signed logbook 9:00 am and replaced all as found, then returned to level ground and set off back to the geomobile at Linville

I was walking the Rail Trail with a couple with a small group. We did the Yaraman -> Blackbutt section on Saturday and were strolling down from Blackbutt to Moore today.
We weren't specifically caching -- the blind folk in the party don't mind having a rest while I search about, but I don't like keeping them too long -- so after a look at the usual suspects I put this on the later list and we kept on on going.
It was a fantastic walk down however. Particularly the bird life. Amongst many others we came across a flock of Black Cockatoos. That was special, they are wonderful to observe in the wild.
Thanks YoungOldFella. I will read the logs and do some thinking. Asabat is keen to bring more VIPs (visually impaired persons) to walk the trail so there is a good chance I will be back this way to have a second go.

Walked in to check on this one. I know it is frowned upon for a CO to log a find on their hides. Need something to power me on to do this walk with my sore legs for a maintenance trip. Apologies.
... and No 3 for the ride with ChrisO556 and IrishMcphee today. What an awesome location! Had us walking around in circles for a little while! Very cool! Loved this one! Thanks
Had us barking up (or below) the wrong tree for a little bit, until we looked at a past log which soon had us heading in the right direction.
LOVED the cache location and the placement for this one! We also took a minute to admire the fury friends that were just hanging about. Very cool. TFTC!

Up from Brisbane with a bunch of intrepid bike riders hoping for a dry ride from Linville though to Yarraman and back [^] Had a great lunch @ Blackbutt before being chased back to Linville by storms
Grabbed this cache after a slippery approach that found me sitting in the water [I] (bike shoes don'thave any grip)
The cache is dry and in good condition [^]

T-Tech and I and our son-in-law joined ruzzelz, Brother Colin, teamdfl, and culture50 and his partner, for an epic ride along the BVRT today. culture50 led the charge to get this one, and BC was keen as well since he'd DNF'd it on his previous visit. I took my time getting to GZ as I have learned that bike shoes are seriously dangerous when walking on wet grass and rocks Very pleased to get to GZ in one piece T-Tech learned that bike shoes are slippery [:o)] and wet bike pants are uncomfortable The others had found the cache by the time I got there. Spent a moment admiring the bats then we headed off on the ride to Blackbutt. TFTC, youngoldfella.
Out and about with a group of fellow caches (eight in total) along the Brisbane Valley Rail trail.
Having found the previous cache this was the only one for me to find.
After the last DNF I worked out where it should be on the way home. (And the CO confirmed this. )
So a quick find before we all moved on.
Thanks for the cache.

Slowly making our way along the trail towards Blackbutt. A minor mechanical mishap stopped us for a while, but the broken chain was soon fixed and we continued the ever so slight climb towards our destination. Culture50 led the charge to this one. T-Tech discovered the dangers of bike shoes and rock hopping in the creek All names added and off we go again.
Continued my trek from Rail Trail #2. Again, amazed at the bird life, huge flock of fire-tail finches and another which I'm not sure of. 'kcsfinch' will be jealous. Pressed on to GZ then stood looking about trying to work out where this cache could be?? Reread description, then previous logs. "Hmm" I think I'll have to widen my search area. After a bit of scrabbling about, found something very interesting and a bit scary! If this is it, I'll need a special implement to get it. Luckily, I have one in the trusty 'Go Go Gadget' backpack. "AhHa" got ya. Very very clever youngoldfella, definitely deserves a favourite from me. Now to relax, and stroll back for some well earned breakfast.
I am on my way west then south to make my way home from Somerset dam.
Just a little detour to grab a couple of caches.
After such a great cycle out to here I could not find this one.
Damm.....I will have come back for another ride on the MTB.

Out and about heading to Blackbutt for an Orienteering event all weekend. Extended our stay in Blackbutt so we could do this and #2. After getting #2 we beat the farmer and his cattle and we continued our great ride on two borrowed bikes from the local Linville community. We arrived at GZ and we stood there scratching our heads and doing 360 degrees. We then suddenly realised that we are just about to be trampled by the herd of cattle so we quickly gathered our borrowed bikes and stood behind a tree hoping not to be killed! Suddenly the cattle headed up the creek and the stockmen comment about where they will head to....a waterfall, that was after they called the dogs f...en stupid. Thank goodness we survived to tell this story. Coast is clear now and we go back to GZ. Mmmmm......not looking good. Read previous logs, didn't help much, looked at the hint, mmmm.....think, think, think!!! I'm still doing 360 degrees and suddenly looked up and couldn't see geohubby. I'm calling out and I continue to do 360 degrees until I hear a faint....."I found it!" Oh good, but where are you? I then see him appear behind some lantana showing me the cache and calling out, 'you have to come and see this'. Yes I did have to, what a clever hide....a favourite from us. Our story doesn't end there.....on our way back we nearly get hit by a 4wd with two old farmers who have decided it was time to burn off. We have a quick talk to them and off we go again towards Linville. We return our bikes and then we are treated to the local gossip of the town. If you mention 'membsec' to the local shop or geocaching you could get 10 per cent off your purchases. What a great day, so thank you youngoldfella. Great ride, great weather, great day, great local people, capped off by a great cache.
No luck for us today. We left a little later in the day than we expected and started the trek on bike, as this was our first time biking for a long while we soon ran out of steam and did a lot of biking then gasping for breath, then walking, then biking....well you get the picture.
We got to the site and the boys (we had a muggle couple and their 9 year old dog Ted with us) headed down the embankment for a look and geo-hound found the water. . What a disgrace he was when he came back up the hill, and if you don't believe that a dog can smile, you should have seen Jimmy.
After searching for about half an hour we decided to make camp and sat and enjoyed our lunch on the edge of the track.
Another search and we decided that we better head back down the hill as poor Teddy was starting to seize up (he is an old boy) and we knew we had a fair way back to the car.
Our muggle friends have been involved in animal rescue and loved the area and the bats that have taken up residence in the pipe.
We will be back when the muscles have forgotten about the pain. TFTH.

Returned for another ride along the trail and did a check on the cache on the way up. I can report there are no problems with this cache - still sits firm in the original position.
Welcome to South Australian viewers of our live coverage of the Tour de Benarkin.
Over to our commentators....
"Looking at our leaders board it is 16 kilometres to the top of the climb to the Col de Noir Derriere.
Team ruzzelz and If are setting a hard pace to discourage any attacks from the pack "
"WAIT, it looks like there has been a fall in the leading group !!
There's a bike lying on the trail and one of the riders appears to have tumbled down the embankment."
"Our helicopter can't see down into the lantana.
That's team If that has come off !!
Team ruzzlez has stopped to see if he is ok.
He seems to be laughing about something."
"There's movement down there, Phil.
If is holding something up above his head.... looks like a geocache !!
At least he's alright, we don't want any more abandonments today. [^]"

Time to take a walk and check on the four. There has been a lot of water coming down the nearby creeks and gullies. This one is still safe in its little hidden location. The recent wet weather has created a few little issues for the council to fix.
Great cache on a lovely trail. A really interesting and innovative hiding place. TFTC
Today the target was to complete the cycle of the Brisbane Valley Rail trail. This was my 4th stop for the morning and II was starting to think the top of the slope should be getting closer, (I wish ).
There is certainly lots of native flora still resident on the rail corridor on the way up to and beyond this spot as well as a nice thicket of not so native flora on the down side of this cache. With my thinking cap on I eventually worked out where the GPS was pointing but still had some distance to actually negotiate to seek out the cache itself. Now that was fun - haven’t done one like that for a long, long time [^]
Keys are no longer required to pass through this section but there are plenty of gates to open (and close) note make sure you close each gate properly as the catches are leave a little to be desired and farmers will not appreciate stock being able to stray from careless trail users.

Still there and in good condition. Walked in to check on number 4 so I thought I had better check on 2 and 3 as well.
Found with the Oyster Point Scouts, hiking from Blackbutt to Linville on the old train line. They liked this one, very cool spot on a very hot day.
Thought it time to check on this one and the other two close by. It is a good walk or ride into these. All OK
Have contacted GC.com and am in the process of taking this cache over as owner to look after for Knightsy's family. Knightsy no doubt will be looking down on us with a smile.
found at 0840this morning after a lovely 3.5klm walk in the morning drizzle. Very clever hide. After my failure to locate this cache last week I was absolutely above (my self) that I did not use the light and was driven to the depths of dispair. (sic) The GPSr was not telling me fibs it was exactly where it said the cache was. TNLN TFTC. Another brain teaser by knightsy.
Number 4 and number 2 were exactly where the GPSr said they would be. GPSr had me spot on the given Co Ordinates but I spent 1hour here looking high and low but failed to locate it. Must have been trying too hard or I was wrong with what I thought the clue was eluding to. Will try again some time in the future. No time today to get to Number one. Those cows do certainly go up and down the steep slopes here.
Found at 0925. Now, it would only have been a five minute ride up from number 2, so that makes it about a 15 minute search for this one. Very tricky, Knightsy I'm glad I had the required equipment with me today.
Off to #4 now...
