Due to the nature of the area around the Cache I am Disableing this cache till I can come up with something better. Sad

12-Feb-10
On our way to Northern NSW, we decided to add another cache find to our list @ 1445, but found this one to be totally DISGUSTING!!
COULD THIS CACHE PLEASE BE MOVED TO A MORE HYGENIC LOCATION AWAY FROM THE RUBBISH AND HUMAN WASTE THAT IS IN THE SEARCH AREA.

Didn't want to get out of the car as I was informed of the nature of this disgusting place. Surprised

27-Jan-10
I feel with six previous DNF that this one is missing. If not, the rubbish - toilet paper etc puts you off touching anything to look deeply. Please can this one be checked and maybe moved slightly to a place that is not the local toilet.

24-Dec-09
These coords are in the long grass. Not a pretty area, tons of broken glass and used toilet paper. Didn't have the hint, so I don't think I had a chance since it sounds like the coords are bogus.

22-Dec-09
What a sad state Thunderbolt's Rock is in. Having spent 3 days camping in the area we went on a Thunderbolt Tour and were disappointed that Thunderbolt's hideout was in. Grafitti all over the rocks and broken glass and rubbish everywhere. The children were sad not to be able to search. Think that this cache might need a check from the owner. Sad

stopped here for a rest on a 5 hour drive, thought I'd have a look, just on dusk with no one around, and had a traveller to drop in, but after tromping around in the long grass and chasing some rabbits away and then searching amongst all the rubbish and toilet paper for a good 20 minutes I had to give up, I might try this one again another time.

If it is amongst that rubbish, that is pretty gross!.

25-Oct-09
third time in last two years stopped on way to richmond, still have not located the cache.scarey place to be looking ,not game to touch or move anything.

23-Oct-09
Dropped in here to see if I could get a quick find. No such luck. searched for about 10min before giving up, still got 400Km to go to get home.

19-Sep-09
2nd attempt no luck. I rekon its there but a beaut camo. will watch this one for next finder, go to Amberely often to visit RAAFie son.

After seeing the discusting area where it was meant to be I never even went to look for it.

This cache NEEDS to be moved to more hygenic location.

This is one to avoid!!!!

Charlie and I are here from Oregon, USA visiting friends in Brisbane and Townsville and traveling the east coast for 6 weeks. Thanks for the education.....we had no idea what and "armco" was. This is the largest Australian cache we have seen to date. T-golf ball L-Celtic good luck charm and TB TFTFun

22-Jul-09
came here in the dark and gave up search for safety reason as we kept finding syringes amonst the rubbish and no cache was to be found anywhere we did search

17-Jun-09
We had the place to ourselves so had plenty of time to look around. My GPSr had me off into the long grass, but the missus walked right up to the cache within a few seconds of arrival - go figure? The said "litter" is still present, but the cache is in good condition.
For anyone with time, there is a great art/history display about Frederick Ward aka Thunderbolt in the McCrossin's Mill Museum in Uralla. It's well worth the time to check it out and learn a bit about this bushranger. TFTC TNLN Cheers Smile

26-May-09
Thought might give this a go as was passing, but could not find it. Sooooo much rubbish around, stinking nappies etc that was not in the mood to make a detailed search.

02-Apr-09

When we 1st arrived there was a couple with there baby changing him, though they did put the nappy in the bin.
My GPS took me to the middle of the scrub, checked the hint and still no luck, did manage to see a cat like creature living under the rocks though.

It is a highly littered area at the moment and the rocks are covered in graphitti

Will maybe try another time

26-Mar-09
We had a brief check of the surroundings but the smell drove us back. And that includes all the used toilet paper that litters these spots. Sorry Postman Pat, we will check again next time we are in the area.

14-Mar-09
Much the same story as If. No one there when I arrived but the area around GZ was strewn with things better located in a Thunderbox. Not at all conductive to a thorough ground search. The arrival of a car load of muggles led me to make a hasty exit from the bushes and the rest area. Next time perhaps?

04-Mar-09
Found this one easily on a sunny afternoon drive around the area. No smelly garbage today and my GPS lead me right to the spot. TFTC

01-Feb-09
I had the place to meself when I arrived and proceeded to search a likely spot Smile
There seemed only one logical location, up on top Big Grin
A bit of a scramble and fight with the tree and no cache Sad
Down below looked very uninviting for a search however, full of bags full of garbage and toilet paper, so I gave that area a wide berth Smile
So no cache found Sad

20-Jan-09
GZ according to the hints was still a rubbish tip and the dead rabbits and smell were still there too. We looked for a while, but gave up and climbed the rock instead.

14-Jan-09
The big piles/bags of smelly rubbish put me off. The co-ordinates of my GPS placed it about 20 metres south west in the middle of the grassy patch.

I rode my bike there on a hot day so was not happy. Might be better to relocate it over on the east side of the car park?

11-Jan-09
112 - Found at 7:09pm just as a cooling shower came across the area. The amount and the smell of rubbish (and probably dead rabbits) was appalling. We found the cache in the open right near the piles of garbage bags so that if the Council did come through to clean it up they would probably take the cache too! After signing the log we rehid it closer to where it should have been accoridng to our GPS - not near the rubbish. TFTC Postman Pat.

Looked with Matt_stomper on a trip from Brissy to Tamworth. Have driven past this rock many, many times on my way to and from uni in earlier years. Stopped in today only to be dissapointed. The old co-ords sent us AWOL (we were using paperless GPSs) but after reading the last 5 logs and following the hint we were constantly retuning to the same spot thinking it can't be that difficult. There was a lot of rubbish around (full garbage bag loads and 5 dead, SMELLY rabbits) and evidence of people. We looked around for a good 15 mins before retreating to the car. It wasn't a very nice place to be. It's a shame people treat this historic place as such a rubbish dump now.
Either the cache was gone or very well hidden. Maybe we will return another day to try again (We'll bring our own gloves and nose pegs next time!!) Sad

30-Dec-08
Drove past here many times when I lived in Tamworth and now a chance to stop and find a cache. Thanks.

Quickly found, log signed and cache replaced.

TNLN & TFTC.

Cheers,

10-Nov-08
Forgot to add the TB

04-Nov-08
shame about the rocks

03-Nov-08
Found 14:15 - Cache was semi exposed. After dropping off Thunderbird-2 TB (thought this would be a good location for a Thunderbird at Thunderbolt) and picking up coins, re-concealed. Amazed at the mass of butterflies that were on the trees. Walking near cache I was amassed in a fluttering cloud.

26-Oct-08
travelling in area, shame about the graffitti, area had just been mowed so no worries with snakes, good cach TNLN

24-Oct-08
Great location, dropped off 3 Geocoins and 2 TB's.

Jumped out of the geomobile and grabbed this one quickly in the company of weroamin on a return trip north. TNLN. TFTC.

As gerrynewgirl lept from the Troopie I stopped and admired the graffiti which has spoilt the meaning of such an Australian historical icon. TFTC TN left token.

All the years I lived in Armidale I never stopped here. A nice quick find in amongst the rubbish.

Thanks Postman Pat for the cache.

Really needed the hint on this one.
It was a little exposed, which we fixed when we re-hid.

Picked up Maxx's Geonut TB. Will move him along a bit.

Thanks.

18-Sep-08
Interesting history to this location. Found the cache without problem. Place has obviously been cleaned up since previous cachers experience.
Took: TB
Left: MAXX'S Geonut Coin

14-Sep-08
Going back into caches I have found in the past and "visiting" a personal TB to give a total km travelled in our time caching.

14-Sep-08
Found it today as part of a larger caching trip.
Took a Lotus Esprit.
Left a Racing Schtroumph TB.
TFTC.

Doesn't appear as though anyone is monitoring the log entries for this cache site. Could I draw attention to the log entries by team bloopy, acts2youthgroup and Phetlern.

Visited while on our return trip to Bendigo. Having read the logs we used the co-ordinates helpfully supplied by acts2youthgroup (thanks for that)we were able to recover the cache very quickly. Our GPS’r had the GZ 24m south of the cache site on today’s satellites, so we would suggest this site needs some maintenance in the form of adjusted co-ordinates.

Based on the co-ords I found myself about 20 metres from the tar & in long grass. The hint was a claytons. I followed some caching tracks to the strainer post & wondered what the sign said - Electric Fence! My GPSr accuracy was 3.7 metres so it appears the reading was taken well away from where the cache was hidden. Muttered something to myself & thought what would Thunderbolt do in this situation.

06-Jul-08
Great spot. TNLN. Thanks.

17-Jun-08
no luck musta put in the wrong coords will check l8r was 20 mtrs off the road in long grass.
thanks

08-Jun-08
Like Acts2 said we were in the wrong area for a bit but that was good as it gave a few muggles time to leave then we moved in for the kill.
Thanks again

Sixth for the day and cache two hundred and fifty-seven on day ten of our Brisvegas trip, the cache was found at 1420 in the company of chewinprickles on our way home.
Our GZ was in the middle of the grass a very unlikely place to put a cache, we waited for some Muggles to leave before checking a more obvious place and there it was rather visible. We found the coordinates to be around 25m off I have taken a reading and attached it to my log it may get you a bit closer. Thanks Postman Pat for the cache.

Interesting spot and worth a stop. We found the coords were a bit out though so it was a lucky chance glance by mrs bloopy that actually found it for us on the way back into the car. Left coin.
