Lots of searching, potentially walking into dangerous steep Forestry edge trying to find where the cache may have gone
Had a good look for this one on all of the surrounding fences but couldn't find it - will admit to being a bit hampered in ability to reach as both wrists are in plaster.
Found it. Not where I was looking.
Got it thou. Maintenance required. Log wet. Container needs replacing.

In the area today after an early start form Auckland, a group of us dropped a car at the northern end Ohinewai Road, and headed south for the start of the trail at Mangapiko Valley Road..... parked in the paddock as advised by the DOC website, and headed off along the trail....a little too keen to stay on the gravel track we over shot the turn off to the trail. Quickly rectified, continuing along the trail collecting the caches as we trek....
The trail was well marked in most cases, with the odd orange marker on the ground from fallen branches/trees, but easily picked up as we moved on through the trail...awesome adventure....in many places the trail was over grown to the point you could not see the ground for foot placement...
Located after the trail was completed....
Signed in as SEAC to save logbook space.

Out for the day with some of the Team SEAC crew to complete the local track. Literally passing this along the way meant we just had to stop.
Quick find here.

After completing the southern section of the Hapuakohe track today we weary trampers were headed home and just had to stop to collect this park and grab. TFTC!
This was about the scariest road I have ever driven up in NZ....
It took forever.
So many slips and washouts .
Soooooo narrow.
Very glad I didn't meet another vehicle.
Cache was not even where hint suggested.
But I tried another post and found it.
Very wet log.
Glad I have finally done the green blot on this area!

Found it on a very cold windy blustery day! Unfortunately the cache is quite wet and the log is also wet although encased in a supposedly waterproof bag. Love caches out in the wop wops like this one - scores a favourite from me. TFTC
An interesting drive up to this one.
Not in the first place I looked but was soon in hand.

We were aiming to turn some frowns upside down today... Clearing out some former DNFs in the Waikato. We planned to go further north, but sacrificed an early start in order to have a sleep in and breakfast in town. This significantly lowered our potential finds, but sometimes it's worth taking time out for little things...
We've had our eyes on this cache for a long time. It has always been just beyond reach for us. We had enough daylight to make it up the narrow, winding road. We emerged on the edge of farmland, and a blustery breeze caught us by surprise... We immediately tried to find this one using visual clues. When that failed, we perused the description and found the corrected coordinates. Unfortunately, none of this helped, and we circled the entire area many times over, searching unnecessarily. Scanning the wider area, we spotted something that didn't fit the hint, and was several meters off... TFTC.

Oops drove right past and had to back up the road to reach the parking spot. Interesting drive up from Waiterimu as the grader was working on the road and the surface was roughed up accordingly.
Very peaceful up here and a great spot to stop for a bite to eat.

After finishing up work in the early afternoon, I decided to reward myself with a drive in the country. Nice weather for it, in general, but now there are passing showers. Starting to head back towards home, but not before I find one last traditional cache up a "goat track". Sunset isn't too far off, but I think I should have adequate light once I get to the top/GZ. A pleasant drive along a country road. I was surprised at how much was sealed. Once at GZ I was treated with the sight of the red sun disappearing behind the hills, through stormy clouds. Anyway, I am here for the cache so I got to searching. Searched a lot of wrong spots before getting the right one. But I was determined to make the find, having come all this way. Very pleased to, finally, complete the formalities on this one; some 11 months since the last visitor. The sun has set now and dark is encroaching so it is time to make for home. Cheers for the cache placement!
heading home .. we love to choose new ways of getting there via the back roads - so a sure trick is chooisng a cache that seems to be off the beaten track.. and this one didnt dissapoint MR A loved the road.. MRsA hated the road - ( after drivers swapped at the gravel line... lol... away we went..)
really chilly up here;-)... pity bout the lack of view back.. but it was worth the summit... on the way down we did a little sheep hearding... trying the "whistle and the GET in behind.." it occurred to us we didnt have a dog.. so while Mrs A whislted and yell the commands MR A made the car pretend it was the dog.. got in behind and the sole run away sheep finally saw the intelligence in not just looking at the bank but climbing it - before the motor bike guy coming behind us turned him in to a steak!

On the way to Auckland to pick up a rather fortuitous Trade Me purchase, and figured I'd turn this into 2 days of caching as well
I'm not sure what inspired me to grab this one especially after so much rain fall... I wouldn't say the road was treacherous but you needed to keep an eye out. As for GZ, we had a few places to check knowing the coords weren't exactly reliable and it didn't take long to find the cache the old fashioned way. The cache was in good condition, found roughly 16m NNW of the given coords. Cheers Granny & Grumps - TFTC.

I decided that we would pick up a few caches that weren't lying on any main drag . I remember coming here before a few years back but it seems I forgot to log a DNF. This time I was successful.
Cheers for the cache.
Cheers for the cache.
2019 Didn't read the description so spent time looking in the wrong place. Didn't matter as I tried some geo-sense and was sucessful
This one has been on the wish list for ages and I was travelling back to Auckland with my 88 year old mother who loves stopping for caches and so we headed off to this one. Took it very easy along the road with our lights on and fortunately met no other cars along the way. Came across a tree half way down over the road but luckily we are only a little vehicle we were able to fit underneath (will try and upload photo). Once at GZ the GPS had us over the road but with word of encouragement from mum from the car who was calling out possible hiding spots the cache was able to be located. My mum may not be able to walk very far but is pretty good and seeing possible cache hides. Many thanks for the cache and a fav point from us.
Nice drive - thankfully we didn't come across any oncoming traffic on the narrow bends. Mr yodabeach has ridden his bike on this road all the way to huntly before. Nice sized cache, it took us a while to find, searching on both sides of the road. Thescoobydoos finally got it in the end. Junior swapped a toy for a transformer that he's very happy with. Tftc
Tftc. Found this one today, on an excursion with yodabeach....a 'slight' detour to come and track this one down. As we arrived, it started to rain, but I imagine on a clear day, the views would be amazing! A bit of hunting around before the penny clicked, and cache was in hand!
A lovely drive out here from Hamilton after a morning of errands with Mr 3 who enjoyed a nap before waking just in time to help me locate the cache. A few things have changed in the description and hint but we found the cache quickly before heading back just in time for school pick up. TFTC
After a DNF a few months ago I thought I'd give this another try - after all the outlook's great! It was getting dark last time but in the midday light I could easily see the clue I'd missed last time - nicely placed! TFTC
Oh my goodness, this was the find of the day to remember! We were on our way to Tauranga for a few days of R&R and geocaching, and decided to make the most of it and pick up some lonely caches for our geo-licence challenge. This one was a fun, windy road up to GZ, and like a few others, took some pondering over the hint and a bit of a methodical search to find the cache. However, this was not helped that the very gusty and bitterly cold winds were making it quite difficult to concentrate! However, with some peserverence, the cache was soon located, brought back to the car to sign the log without it blowing away and then quickly replaced! At least the warmth and shelter of the car was greatly appreciated on the drive back down. Thansk for the cache!
Originally was going to grab just this cache to cover my dot day, but ended up in Ngatea first for a drink so grabbed a couple of local caches whilst there. I've always liked these back country windy roads. TFTC
Found with alpenmilch80 on the long way back to Auckland from Hamilton to pick up some lonely caches for a license challenge.
A fun back road across the Hapuakohe Range. This one took some searching about and we were determined to find it as it's more than probable we won't return to this remote location. We pored over previous logs and searched about and thankfully eventually alpenmilch80 uncovered the hide.
Great views from here.
Thanks!

Slieschke and I decided to take a detour back from Hamilton to Auckland to collect some lonely geocaches. Very windy and narrow road up to the geocache. We just made it to GZ at sunset.
We searched the area according to the hint and updated coords for quite a while but weren't lucky. We gave the hint a final thought and came up with the goods. TFTC

Quite puzzled here. The published coords were in the bush, the revised coords were in the middle of the road. Searched everything matching clue to no avail. Awesome road, just a shame it was a DNF.

Found on the journey home from the rail trail event. I came all the way up here and was determined that it had to be here somewhere. Just about to give up, gave one last look and voila!
Drove in to get this one and on arrival at the GZ we found the GPS spinning it's head off, had to search a bit for the container but found it in the end, SL, TNLN, TFTC
4.05pm - Came from the Kaihere side. What a road, blind corners everywhere. Got to location, found cache. Co ords out by 20metre, Great views. SLTFTC
New coordinates need checking and put us on the other side of the road. Something like Angus's cache. Found it after some time eating lunch and discussing the surroundings. Thanks Guys.
Last one for the little tour of the Coromandel with Mrs Dragon although she couldn't quite understand how this was a short cut home, then i got the look!!!
The views were worth it and the road made for a great drive to the top, glad not to have had a caracvan to tow

Took a bit of hunting to find this one and realized what the hint meant.
Very interesting drive up to it and I would hate to have met someone else coming in the opposite direction but well worth the drive.
Another one to add to our loneliest cache collection

Wow what a great road. Needed a bit of a search but found the little blue devil. Thanks for bring me here. Will give this a fav cause I loved the windy road so much.
Really enjoyed the drive along the narrow windy roads out to this cache, although, in saying that, miss wasnt enjoying it at all! Came across another 4WD heading along in the opposite direction and with no where to move to let him past, i had to reverse about 400m to the nearest verge.
Once arriving at GZ, we made a quick find of the cache using the coordinates from another cacher posted in their log. Thanks for the cache and the chance to explore this out of the way place!

Guess the road puts many off this find. Nice view and an easy park-up. A little confused by the actual environment, but persevered and triumphed in the end. Had an interesting chat with a local DOC ranger laying possum traps along the nearby ridge-trail, as he used the turnabout afforded by the cache locale.
Thoroughly confused by the directions and not helped much by my GPS this was a not found. Mind you I didn't find Angus's Cache either so maybe I'm just fated not to find G & G's caches.
A very interesting detour, but we were not so inspired by the smell of a long departed soul at GZ! Nice views though! TFTC
Driving up this road, it was almost dark, I was hoping this road was not a dead end as I was intending to drive out the other side. Thankful it wasn't. Coords had me in the middle of road, but after trying a few options, cache was soon at hand. TFTC
Nice easy find during an afternoon caching with the kids TFTC Took 2 travel bugs and left one
Out and about in the cachecamper so decided to ignore the np campervan sign at the bottom of the hill! Second visit here as we had no luck on our first visit but maybe our search area was not wide enough as we found it no trouble this time but the coords were out by 15m. Dropped off some TBs. Thanks for bringing us back we always enjoy these rural roads T4TC.
Just like the old Gagney movie..."Top of the world, Ma" Thanks, this is a nice spot.
Great spot, nnice bush drive ... we found the listed coord's ok. A little dull to dwy to fully enjoy the views.
Coordinates for me were S 37 24.277, E 175 23.314. A great curly narrow road, especially on the Hauraki side. I arrived just as the last remnants of red sunset were fading in the west and the bright lights of Paeroa to the east. Cloudless night and the stars are clear and bright here. Cache cointainer was absolutey dry inside. Great to discover such a remote through road that I never knew existed. I'll be back again in daylight.
Co-ords for us were
S37 24.276
E175 23.313
+- 0m (according to the GPSr)

We replaced Monty's cache today - it had been bulldozed away from where it was!
The co-ordinates are very slightly different, as there was no way to put it back where it was.
Will edit log and replace them. These are with a TomTom so will vary slightly from anything else. (First person to find new cache please add yours her.
Thank you - Granny & Grump

Arrived at GZ to be greeted by a new fence that blocks access to GZ. Climbed the fence but appears the cache may have gone .
Great cache find on our way Auckland to Ohope for a week’s holiday.
We took some great pictures up here and will post them later.
Well worth the drive !!!!!!

On my way north to stay with Pooke so took a detour to pick up this cache. So pleased I did. The views from the top were stunning today & the road awesome. Maybe I will get to meet the happy hounds one day...have heard a lot about them. And NO ...I did not take the 17metres of vehicle length, I own, on this road! TFTC

Walk the walk a few times, driven the bus in from the west , very windy here today
An interesting change of scenery coming back to The Tron from Thames. The drive up was awesome, although very wiggly and narrow - glad I didn't meet anyone else coming down!
An easy find at the top. Gosh, who would have thought that there would be two Maungakawas in the Waikato? This one was certainly easier to scale though!
Continued on down the other side, which wasn't quite as exciting and back onto sealed road pretty soon.
Thanks for showing me the alternative route!

Early morning diversion en route to Auckalnd. Looked to quite a view from here but still dark unfortunately. The last 2 kms (straight line) seemed to go forever! No other vehicles met at this hour luckily!
Thanks
Thanks
Boy what a drive, it was raining, misty and the over head power lines at GZ were howling in the wind. I enjoyed the drive though, I felt like a rally driver. I'm glad I didn't meet anyone going the other way. TFTC.
What a laugh! Once again racoonpete must have been just ahead of us. It was just on dark, we were up in the clouds. Thank goodness we didn't meet racoonpete on the trail. It certainly is an interesting road. The foxies nearly tore the dash out of the car when they saw the bunnies running up the middle of the road in the car lights, as we made our way back down. Talk about deja vue. Grampy made the exact same comment about how eerie the sound of the wind in the wires was. TFTC
Easy find on a hot sunny day and what a road to get to GZ. Would recomend you take it easy going up and coming back down. TFTC
Nice road! was a bit lost for bearings up top until I spied the huntly twin pwr station stacks! TNLN cheers Muzy Man!
The Freezer Mice strike again!!!
Easy find on a day of clearing out some near-by caches that we needed to 'get around to'.
Nil in or out.

On the way south detoured for this one. Monty looks like a very nice dog! Unfortunately raining today so views very limited, but a great drive up. TFTC
Checked on this cache this morning to find there were road works after all the heavy rain we have had.
Please keep your speed down as the road is a mess.

On way to Auckland flash mob event. Logged at 0700.FTF #88
Now that Im back home I can say this would be a really good view from up here.
At that time of morning it was still a bit dark and misty.
Cache was easy to find with the clue however. Some folk at the Flash event I think were going to pay this a visit today as well. On there way home
