Finally found with help from Yoshi Warriors, our co-ords were way off and would never have found with out help ..
Out with Moosetash this morning attempting this one after chatting with a previous finder about the co-ord's being somewhat sketchy. With that sorted out we headed out and made a quick find. TFTC
A little help with the final coords saw us set out for this one after breakfast this morning. A well known track that we hadn't walked in quite a while saw us arrive quick smart at GZ. An encounter earlier in the week meant a cautious look around, but the cache was located swiftly. Thanks for the hide and bringing us here, a beautiful vista of the coast.
Have been meaning to attempt this one for quite some time. With the weather improving, Geokid1 & I decided to tackle the first part last week. As there seemed to be a few DNF's and some uncertainty with some of the coordinates, we thought we'd do the questions, then return home and crunch the numbers.
At home, I got to work. I was certain I had the correct answers for A,B,C,D & H. Therefore the southerly coordinates had to be right. Whereas, like many before, the Easterlies had GZ out at sea. I believe the Easterly answers are open to interpretation and it is clear the platform has been redeveloped. I had taken photos of the structures so I could refer to them at home.
With a satellite image on the computer, I began to adjust the numbers. I quickly concluded what the answer for E must be. The answer for E: If you answer this by looking at the structure from afar, you will be incorrect. You need to take a closer look and look for anything horizontal.
By again referring to the satellite image & looking at the area near the track, I came up with 3 possibilities for the answer to F. As it turns out, I believe the correct answer can be found by counting the uprights that make up the immediate square of the platform and then adding 2.
The answer to G doesn't make a lot of difference, but I am pretty sure the current platform still gives the correct answer. Therefore, I came up with 3 possible locations for GZ each about 15 meters apart.
I decided to tackle this today when I got home from work. When I looked it up, I saw it was disabled. Still convinced the cache could still be there and that one of our 3 GZ coordinates was correct, I set off with Geokid1. When we arrived at the GZ area, we tried the closest of the 3 locations we came up with and BINGO, we found it straight away.....then horror struck, I forgot to bring a pen!!! Fortunately, there was a blunt pencil in the cache which I peeled back so I could write some resemblance of a log entry. The next cacher might want to bring a pencil sharpner with them.
The cache is in good condition, contents are dry and it seems to be placed in a secure spot. I believe the comment "within 15m of the sandy track" does not refer to the start of the sand, but when you are walking on the sandy track, the cache is between 1-15m away from the track.

Back for the 6th time. At the stage of thinking this cache doesn't exist anymore, having been through the variables working this out I can only guess that is no longer in play, 15 m from the sandy track and the only possible GZ as best as "we" can work out is 60m away, if it "was" at the GZ it may very well have washed away in last months huge storm.

Didn't find it! Pretty hard I think one of the clues answer has changed maybe!
First go at this on ended in DNF, got the final co-ord's up the creek (or out to sea), when through all out info a couple of time's and still had no luck. Back at home with my Geo bud we sat down and went through it all again and came up with a much better result as to the final co-ord's. HINT all the info seem's be to available IF you use the help's provided as "thing's" have changed since the cache was first placed. IF your final co-ord look's wrong then it probably is.
Back in a day or so do to have another crack.
Back in a day or so do to have another crack.
Solved first two parts. Third part confusing but kept going to where I thought the cords were leading. Didn't head seawards from 'track' when I got there. When reading other logs I was probably in the right area after all. I'll leave getting/ continuing the search for it on another visit here.
Found it on the 31\5\2010 we can't access our old profile so i'm resubmitting the one's we have found I got a Chicago Dolphin trackable. we r getting back into it again now we have 2 Geo Kids so it should be fun!
My second find on a short run that got longer and longer. Whale is still there rotting away. Thank you.
This was a great way to spend a saturday morning. the first couple of clues were easy but the last one had us stumped, as when we typed the waypoint in it seemed to want us to look in the ocean. we massaged the numbers a bit and still couldn't get them on dry land. we did not give up still wanting a walk we carried on with the waypoint we had and decided to look in the area just before we would get wet. At first the whale decaying meant we weren't gonna try for long but then as we got round the bay a bit the smell was less offensive. we search the area with no luck at first, and then bingo! Found.
TFTC Also found Echindna asleep in the bushes happy days.

So happy to find it after a nice long walk toward the cache before sunset while in W'bool for the day.
Thanks madreb for bring me to beautiful coast and cache.
Thanks madreb for bring me to beautiful coast and cache.
It's an interesting walk to the cache, I must admit I'm not a fan of these ones where you have to count slats, posts or other timbers that decay and fall off of things. That being said, we finally guessed right and signed the log. tnln tftc
This was a nice walk solving the puzzle whilst taking in the great view to GZ. Only problem was that the answers to the clues have changed over time, but with some quick thinking we were back on track & had the cache in hand. Whale a little smelly!! Sl tftc
Madreb has not logged onto the web site since - Saturday, 02 January 2010!!! All his caches have been tagged “Need Maintenance” - IS he still around to maintain his caches???????
This is why I love geocaching! Healthy walk in the fresh sea air, puzzle to exercise my brain and a TB bonus!!! Thankyou!
Nothing wrong with the cache, it's where it's suppose to be. BUT I did get some strange GPS readings. You can smell the dead whale if the breeze is from the South. Left TB Took frog.
Well what to say here...We have the co-ordinates, however things got a little awkward to say the least. GZ co-ordinates were a little tricky, if not illegal today, given there were DSE officers overlooking a somewhat whale of a time that needs protecting....not to mention muggles by what seemed like the bus loads!!! Will have to come back at another time (in not to near future, given the stench of a decomposing whale) to have a look for this one.
Hi, we tried to find this one yesterday, but got coordinates that put it out in the bay off Sandy Beach. Reading the logs, this seems to be a common result.
There is a problem with the lookout at the last waypoint that may require maintenance, half of the hand rail is missing, broken off. It could be unsafe. Perhaps thats why our calcs were wrong. The biggest area of confusion is probably around that last waypoint, as the definition of vertical posts, and horizontal slats is open to interpretation. A refined description could help.
Hope you appreciate the feedback, thanks for the cache and hope to find it one day soon.

Found in conjunction with Squalid and Ian & Penny. We initially tackled this cache on 8th March 2009 without success. Back again with friends, we were more hopeful of a find. The initial calculation of co-ordinates had us at sea, and the area we had previously search had been subject to storm surge. P-H did some substitution of numbers and found the actual cache site while others looked further west.
JUST WONDER IF THE DIFFICULTY RATING OF ONE (1) IS REALLY APPROPRIATE FOR THIS CACHE. GIVEN THE POSSIBLE AMBIGUTITY (WHICH SEEMS TO GET A LOT OF PEOPLE IF YOU READ THE LOGS)AND WITH NO OPPORTUNITY TO CHECK THE FINAL CO_ORDS, PERHAPS THE RATING SHOULD BE A BIT HIGHER?
TNLN . . SL . . Thanks for the hunt MadReb.

8th find of the day, and 2881st total find at 16:43.
We're down in Warrnambool for a long long weekend, and found this one in the company of Phetlern and Squalid. Thoroughly enjoyed the walk along the path collecting the clues. We did however have to do some re-counting and some more calculations once we realised the coordinates we ended up with were a little out to sea.

We collected all the clues and did the maths, but decided not to go back and get our togs to swim out to GZ. Fortunately, Phetlern saw sense and recalculated with one alteration. Cache found quite quickly after that. Thanks for the pleasant stroll.
We tried this one on a very windy & cold day. The scenery is rugged but beautiful.
We collected all the clues but final co-ordinates sent us off a cliff!!
So I guess we got the clues wrong....weather was turning bad and the kids were tiring quickly...so we decided not to backtrack. Maybe we will get it next time we are in the area

Lovely walk and a nice multi (a bit tricky one of them) and got it in the end after a think on the edge of a cliff. No GC in there. TNLN TFTC
We arrived at WP1 at 10.15am this morning, found the micro traditional there, then collected the first piece of information on this multi. We loved each of the WPs, great views, and a peaceful and quiet final location. Such a pity that humans choose to pump their sewerage out into the ocean near here. A great multi, thanks for showing us this section of coastline. Cheers!
a great day for a walk. i needed it after all the food from christmas and a nice easy find
In September we gathered the first two clues before it bucketed down. We then lost them, so today, when the aussies were failing miserably in the cricket, we went back for a nice walk along the beach. Nice hide. Thanks madreb
The clues for this cache were gathered easily enough but I got something wrong in the calculations. - something to do with the horizontal slats around the viewing platform, and another error caused by taking a short cut. As a result I overshot the mark by a couple of hundred metres. By process of elimination I managed to recalculate GZ without returning to any of the WP's.
I knew I was in the right spot because I could see evidence of previous searches.
I was about to walk away without a smilie on this one when I realised that there was a place that I hadn't checked and, guess what, that was where the cache was.
Thanks for the walk and a great cache madreb.

2nd time trying to get this cache, first time was our first attempt & didn't get all the clues worked out. Got to the right spot but didn't read the directions properly so had to run back to second lookout to get right answers. Once we got the right numbers was an easy enough find. Great walk junir turtle got a bit tired on her big walk but had a great time collecting shells & playing in the water.

We walked out to this one to check on it this afternoon. We have made some slight adjustments to the description, as the cache is no longer near the cliff, and is off the path slightly. We have also made some minor changes to the wording of a couple of questions, which will hopefully help you all out.
We've taken the Wolf coin out for a walk, as he was a bit squashed!

well this cache took some finding, after going back checking answers and rechecking we were about to give up and bingo after one more quick look we had it.TNLN SL.THANKS.FTC
Well did this turn into a mammoth task, 2 ½ hrs of searching.
First go had us 150M out in the sea, then decided to go with the original cords +20M still nothing.
So then the hike back to recheck the waypoints and questions, and with still another set of cords, nothing, and with lots of discussion as to what was a track/path, more searching. With nothing to show for our time in the area we decided to abandon the hunt.
Having about 5seconds left, completely by chance, BINGO, there it was, high fives
all-round.
Three sets of GPS’s left us about 10M from GZ.
In the end we enjoyed the hunt (a real one)

Found it! On the third set of recalculated coordinates and after a lot of searching! This was a tough one.. Found it in conjunction with another geocacher from america which i have bumped into also at another cache.
TFTC, Prehaps this cache needs a clue, so when you get to the co-ords it is a bit easiers to find.

This cache has now been replaced. The position of the cache has moved slightly (about 20m) from it's original position to keep it away from the ocean and the effects of erosion. My apologies for taking so long to fix it. The formula has been changed to reflect the cache's new position.

We started on this one the previous day and ended up in a most unlikely spot. So back to base and recheck the sums - a numerical error was corrected, but two of the clues could be a bit ambigious so we calculated a number of separate GZ's and off we headed. One GZ had us in a similar spot to VP4 near the sewerage plant, another was in an impossible spot, but another one certainly put us in a likely spot. Unfortunately a large family of muggles were actually camped on the beach very close to our calculated GZ, so a reasonable look over 30 minutes was all we could achieve, a proper look being impossible.
Could we suggest that perhaps a simple number check based on the co-ordinates might be useful and help overcome the ambiguity of the questions.
We will give this one another go when we are next in town.
TFTH madreb.

No luck for us today. Our original calcs put us 100m into the dunes towards the sewerage plant. A second guess at possible numbers put us near a cliff edge but after spending over 90 mins in total looking we decided to move on. Good luck for future cachers.
A very nice walk and a well put-together multi. We haven't walked this way in years, so it was nice to refresh. Left coin. TFTC.
An interesting walk, a few nice photos, and a hide that seemed to me to be close to non-existent. Swapped a highlighter for a stamp. TFTC.
This was a really well constructed multi and we enjoyed the walk between the waypoints. We were almost the only visitors to the end point though and enjoyed the views from here and the ever encroaching sea making its mark on the small cliff. Wonder how long the cache will last?
Thanks Madreb.
Thanks Madreb.
It is alway nice to do coastal walks in this part of the world. The cliffs and rock formations are continually changing.
As Feathertop said this is a well constructed multi, even if he does read out the wrong clues
Thanks, Robmc.

We wern't too sure of our aswers in a couple of places here but the numbers seemed to work out and at the end GZ was spot on. Geojen found it while the rest of us were walking in circles. Very nice walk with great views all along the way. Sad story about the two Dept people though. I worked for the same Dept at that time, up in the North East. Don't remember hearing about it though!
Thanks for another great cache.
Thanks for another great cache.
Found by Mary & David at 2050. This one took us too long after we misinterpreted the requirement for determining 'E' and as a result were directed too far inland. A call to Rubik revealed our error, and the cache was an easy find after that. GZ is certainly getting a bit close to the edge - looks as though one good storm might see the end of it. We still enjoyed the walk and the views in the last of the evening light. Dropped off 'IGM #25 Kennel Club Geocoin - Steel City Babes'. Our thanks again to MadReb.
My 80th find @ 2:50 on a windy Saturday afternoon.
Finding the cache was a nice walk along the seafront.
Co-ords were spot on, but recent erosion in excess of that at WP1 has meant that GZ is very close to edge of the cliff.

2Dudez and Team Rubik's Week Long "2008 : A Cache Odyssey" trip to South Australia.
The only cache in town we missed on yesterday, we started at 5:45 this morning to finish this one before we moved on to Port Fairy and Portland.
Walking by torchlight, we gathered our info and made it to GZ reasonable time.
Took a few minutes in to find this one, but finally it was me who found the container.
Signed log and we said farewell to Warnambool
Many thanks to Madreb and all the local cache owners, we really enjoyed our visit.

After failing to get this one the night before Deano and I headed out before sunrise so we could enjoy the views! It was unfortunate that we weren't able to wait until daylight to do it as were had made plans for the day, but we were really intrigued to read of the history on the plaques. The really good hint helped us to find the cache in the dark, thanks for being so considerate!

Taking longer than anticipated to get to Warrnambool worked out in our favour as the sun was going low in the sky and the cache page had suggested that sunset was a good time to be here. We headed off from the car park finding the answers required easily until we got to E. Here we came up with three possibilities and also once again bumped into Murphy. First co-ords headed us in the opposite direction that we thought we should be heading, The next set were 350 metres in what we thought looked like the right direction so we headed off quickly and wound up near a construction camp, thinking that this wasn't the right place we had a quick search around and then punched in our last possibility. Bingo, the cache was soon located within one metre of the co-ords so a nice easy find was had and the sun was still high enough to get some great photos of this very beautiful place ,made even better by being FTF
