On a day of walking the Fernleigh Track, I decided to take a little detour out to find this one. Arrived at GZ to find an open dune...but no bush...and no cache. This one has been gone for a while by the looks of it.
As per my DNF log, the cache is no longer there...and the bush that it was hiding in is obsolete. I'm placing a needs archive in this one as the owner hasn't responded in over a year...or logged in to their account since July 2012.
What a great adventure, four 4WD's, five teams (Grub Fred, Chippyroo, danwashere, Team Senz and djant), shame the mighty GEOLUX bit the dust on the first (and second) dune, transferred team Senz to the mighty Prado and away we went, chickened out on the final dune and walked up instead, Mrs Chippyroo took the group photo as we all signed the log.
Decided to exit at Belmont South, crawled to the Shell garage to reinflate the tyres, adjourned to Redhead Bowlo for well-deserved refreshments, thanks guys for answering my plea for a joint venture, there should be more of these, gets a favorite point for the fun company, TFTC johannagoanna!!

Ditto. See logs from djant and grub below. Great unofficial Havoc event. Which cache shall we get next?
It was a great few hours out on an unofficial HAVOC event with Grub Fred, djant, Team Senz and danwashere. We all met at the northern entry and lowered our tire pressure.....clearly not enough for the not-very-powerful-in-Geolux as it refused to get up the first dune. We lowered again and transfered Team Senz to Grub Fred's mighty Prado and were soon underway..... not for long though! Mr C didn't quite follow the path and was a little bogged, so we lowered the preasure yet again, dug out the tires and FINALLY made it onto the beach where we soon had the cache in hand. We decided to leave via the southern exit as we didn't want to risk bogging the not-very-powerful-in sand- Geolox half way up the dune in a narrow track. It was a great day out and can't wait to get together again! TFTC
today was a great day, lots of laugh while out on the dunes, even when chippyroo got bogged.....TWICE! great spot for a cache. thanks guys.
Found with team senz danwashere grub Fred chippyroo on good 4x4 day just for this cache tftc
Found it but couldn't write in the log. There were muggles camped not 20 meters away looking at me suspiciously. Mind you I thought there 4 wheel drive plus FOUR quad bikes was a bit much. But I definitely spotted the container and could see the stuff inside it - I just couldn't open it with them there:-(
A very pleasant mornings walk from the Belmont end of the Fernleigh track out to Belmont lagoon (and a DNF) and then along 9 mile beach and back up to the Jewels part of the track and back to the car for a picnic lunch. Great stuff.

Had been meaning to do this for a long time so today was an opportunity as the weather had fined up very nice. I decided that this would be a good opportunity to give my restored DT175 Yamaha a run. All went well along the old sand mining road except for the huge puddles. Stopped a few times to check direction and distance. Was trying to get as close as possible but eventually would have to ride into the dunes. Have done beach riding many years ago and there is a technique involved so that you don't get bogged. All was gonib well up the first steep dune track when the bike decided it no longer wanted its front sprocket connected by chain to the year and it threw it off. My mistake for not adjusting the chain before I left. I got the chain back on but didn't have a big enough spanner in the tool kit to loosen off the year axle so that it could be adjusted.
Retreated back down the dune and decided to see how close I could get to GZ without having to climb any other steep dunes. Tried quite a few tracks, riding carefully so as not to throw the chain off again but could get no closer than about 450 metres. This is not an area where I would leave the bike on its own and walk the rest of the way so decided to call it quits this time and come back another day, after servicing the chain. Had fun trying.
Due to all the mud and sand I rode through the bike got a well deserved wash when we got home.

Quick find. As there was no log in the cache and the cache was cracked as per previous logs, I brought a spare and repalced this cache for you even including a new log book. I also placed a few extra swaps in it too. TFTC. Nice spot for a cache. TB was also dropped off the enjoy the view over the ocean.
Thankyou so much, that was very kind of you. Each time we have been in the area we have been towing our camper trailer and with a toddler have not been able to walk in. I really appreciate your kindness. I'm glad others are liking the spot. Jo
Confirmed the cache is a bit trashed, we should of brought a replacement.... Next time. Not much left in the container either.
Found after s short stroll with Team Unibolt container and log very wet ,didn't have new one with us TFTC
Excellent spot, had a great time doing this one. the cache its self however is in desperate need of replacement. I'm disappointed I didn't have another container with me as this place deserves a good cache.
Thankyou for information. We are away for next 3 weeks but will tend to maintenance asap on return. If anyone heads to this Geocache please think about taking a new container and log for me if you could. Much appreciated. Jo
Come up to Newcastle to do a paragliding course.
Having a break for lunch so came out to redhead for a drive on the dunes.
Had somke goog fun and found this cache as well.
I think this beach needs a lot more caches
Cheers

This one was a bit of an adventure. Drove in on an access road and noticed that Lurch's twin brother was above us, watching us intently. As we drove further in, there was Lurch, walking in, following us. Drove around for a while, looking for the best track in to the cache. Came upon a group of about ten men, all standing around in a group, and suddenly one of them is throwing a stick towards our car. We take this as an invitation to keep moving. We find a spot well away from the men to leave the car, and set off for our walk of 900 metres. Encountered a few kids on trail bikes. Loved the cache. What a great place to put it. Took a number of photos, and enjoyed the beautiful views. On the walk back we met a guy walking his dogs. The round trip took us an hour, at a gentle pace. When we went to leave, we discovered that the gate had been padlocked. Good one, Lurch. Drove til we found another exit - padlocked. Strange men who throw things at cars are now gone. Now we're having a minor panic. Drove south, and, after passing a ute containing teenagers sitting on a lounge (on the move - not at the side of the road!), finally found an exit that wasn't locked. Now that we're safely out, we can say that it was a great cache, and we enjoyed finding it. TFTC
Log damp. Put in plastic bag. Took wrong turn very narrow. Will need few hours to buff all scratches out. What a great spot. TFTC
great, great spot. The best one we have found YTD! However the geo was all damp inside, needs some attention.
Dropped in while we were driving down the beach to re-visit this cache but couldnt find it where we had found it previously. Is it still there?

Didn't think I had the car for this one but managed to drive within 200m of the cache from the west. Thanks for showing me this great vantage spot.

Found it today on a day at the beach. Awesome view from the top of the dune. Could see for miles. Bottle had a few holes in it beacuse of the sand and wind so we did a quick ptach up job with some duct tape. Took nothing. TFTC
Great spot with a fantastic view!

Found at 4.20pm GAFF1. This was the highlight of the day's caching. We approached the first dune and decided not to lower the tyres, so for that decision we only got about 2/3 of the way up! Back we go down and deflate the tyres. Once deflated, we put the gear in 3rd low range and off we went - straight up and over. Got to the beach, passed some muggles fishing and then climbed the dune where the cache was located. The sand is very soft here and we were not sure that the Patrol would be able to climb up the big dune, but it did! So a nice drive-by was enjoyed which allowed us time to explore this area - just magnificent.
Thanks johannagoanna.
Thanks johannagoanna.
Since my first week of geocaching this has been the closest cache to me.
But it involved a length walk over soft sand so I have always put it off for another day.
When the 400 milestone approached I knew that I couldn't put if off any longer.
I could have driven over there but I wasn't game to scratch the wifes tar baby.
I parked at what will soon be the restored Jewells Train Station and walked in.
As always the long way in and the short way back.
I was concerned that this would be hard to find in a clump of saltbush.
The cache is not often visited but there is a telltale sign of a geotrail to the cache.
I found the cache and took my time logging and enjoying the view to celebrate 400.
The owner of this cache is long gone but the cache is in good order and should last for years.
Another milestone down and a million more to find.

Parked just off railway crescent and walked in and out... and what a walk it was! I've scoped this out on google maps many times, but it's sure a lot different when you go in to do it.
Surprisingly didn't seem to take any wrong turns and as approaching GZ I saw a 4x4 and some people learning to hang glide parked nearby... but after the walk in I wasn't about to turn back without a find! Once I got closer I was glad the cache was on that side of the bush which was out of their view, I sat down for a while and watched the people learning to hang glide (the basics - they weren't getting into the air yet) and then saw a fighter jet do a low pass along the beach. Also passed another couple of walkers pretty deep into the track, surprised to see other people walking it all the way in here.
Great spot, great exercise! Thanks

Well this one wasn't on my list of the to do caches today, but Soccerpride had other ideas. It all comes down to ambition and capability, don't mix them up. We drove in some way up the 4wd track and then parked off the road. Now on foot we started working our way towards the cache, through the trees and did I mention spiders, spiders, spiders. I grabbed a stick and twirled it in front of me clearing the way, by the time we got out of the trees and on the dunes it looked like a ball of fairy floss on a stick that was alive. Up the dunes and what a view, the clouds had parted by this stage (Bugger) as it heated up very quickly. Once at GZ in we went for the kill and out came Soccerpride with the cache in hand. SL and returned it for the next adventurer to find. Now where did we park the car.....which way...

Cache no 3 for today, however wasn't on the list we were working off.Once we got to the off road tracks we realised why.Didn't regret this one.A nice stroll through the spider infested bush and sand hill climbing got us to GZ.It was an easy find once you are there. How to get back to the car was the Question.
Parked the car at the cnr of Railway and Kalaroo Rds and walked in - there's no way my front wheel drive sedan was gonna get more than a few metres through the sand! Quite a tough trek up and down the sand hills, but it was soooo worthwhile. An absolutely fantastic spot I would never have known about otherwise. Plenty of 4wd hoons tearing about the place. Cache was an easy find. TFTC.
At last we did it. We only live 1Km from this cache and have been meaning to do this one for a long time.We drove the 4wd along the bush track to the bottom of sand dune got out and walked up and over the sand dune for 200m to reach the cache.TNLN TFTC
After a long walk, SpikeyMikey and BikiGanoo made it past the sand hills to find the cache.
Great spot, but, alas, no whales today. But plenty of ships at anchor.....we counted 39.
Took nothing, left a giant seed, and footprints.

it was a mini Stocko Sands (that nearly killed us last weekend)

I drove my 4WD to within 400m of the cache then walked. Beyond this I would have had to deflate my tyres so walking seemed easier.
This was a really great spot thanks for bringing me here.
I discovered TB541072 Lost in the cache.

LOVELY spot, FANTASTIC. Rode my MTB in, er, walked it over the sandhills aprt, but rode in there along the dirt track before I had to push.
Then admired the 30 ships out at anchor!!!!
Also admired one goose get his all terrain vehicle stuck in the sand, and more stuck as he revved up and spun the rear wheels - silly goose - I left him to it. Walked my bike back out, then a nice ride back home to cousin's place in Belmont, Coooeee, thanks for a top spot.

I live in country Victoria and we rip each others arms off for a FTF. Swapped badge for lock. Took Combi TB.
