#8397After an epic day out paddling the Colo River last weekend we have returned! This time picking the hottest day for ages (35 degrees) to walk some of the steepest hills! After deciding half way to complete the loop, and then having to ration our water towards the end (again!), we've decided we need more water bottles.... (again!)I've noted this cache sitting up here for years - so it's always been on the list, however if we're just 'in the area' we never have the time to go for it - so today we made the trip down pretty much for this and its neighbour cache up the hill. This wasn't what was expected - we will definitely need tick checking this week, or a sheep dip! After circling a bit in some seriously annoying brush, giving me a weird coughing attack, the cache was found - about 14m out by my device today.... @ S035 E260Weird hint too. we still have no idea how that was supposed to help. Maybe it was more relevant 20 years ago! It's always a treat finding these old treasures though, however they come.TFTC!
#8391After a pretty mundane day yesterday, we were sitting at home this morning and decided to have a crack at some of the caches around the Mangrove/Wisemans Ferry area.Very hot but a nice day to do some great walks and some nice DTs end of copy paste FLTFThanks for placing and maintaining this cache Geocaching NSW
Greetings from UK. Lovely walk up the trail, a bit off the path, but easy find once at GZ. TFTC
TFTC from the KayakViking.A lovely walk along the old road and collected the 2 x ALs at the same time. It really was an engineering feat 200 years ago.Great to pick up another oldie - heavily overgrown at the moment and took a while to lock in. I was surprised it is more out in the open than I expected - lots of what I would have thought as better hidey holes nearby....oh well it has clearly lasted 23 years ! All good at GZ. Cheers KV
Wondered along the highway with my esteemed compatriots. Upon thorough investigation we discovered the cache off the beaten path. Thank u for the enjoyable find.
Been camping nearby for the past few days and today we decided to walk up the heritage trail. Found this one along the way, always nice to find such a old cache still going.
Thanks for the cache!
Thanks for the cache!
Nice walk along the old great north road. Found it near where the map took us. Thought it would be at the old stockades but it’s a bit further up the track.
After a long search it was found about 15m past where the gps said gz was. Tftc
“6000th find” needed something special for a milestone find and chose a 2dogs grandfather cache. Up early like the convicts and made the find at 9:30am.
Took the long approach to take in all the info and stories from the plaques on my travels up.
Had my hands on the black container about 15m eastwards at where the arrow wanted me.
Cool and fresh morning with those rain clouds holding atm, thanks for keeping this old one alive

Missed this traditional on my walk up Divines Hill and proceeded all the way across the ridge and down Finch Line back down to the main road before I realised that it was a ‘The 2 Dogs’ cache from 2001, so an about face and trundle back up the ridge line to turn my 10km look into a far more enjoyable 18km out and back. Put my name in the log (replaced in 2019 it appears - is the original still around perhaps too?) and wandered back down Divines Hill marvelling at the early 1800s engineering.
Grabbed the TB to move along.

Found with laurienorton. Great walk, very educational, thanks for hiding. Didn't really understand the hint
With canned and Holly 4tea and Judithn. Visiting family. GreT trail. Note log damp could not sin. Noted travel cache
For some reason I didn’t do this when I did the adventure labs so back again but awesome walk and happy to give a favourite even though I hate colonism I find this very interesting and it’s such beautiful land. Tftc tnln

Out caching with Brewmaker and Everest High, walking the Convict Trail adventure labs.
It was a great hike with many informative information panels along the way.
Close to the Stockade we searched for this old cache and it was Everest High that found the box.

This was a terrific walk - so much history along the way in really beautiful surrounds. Lots of others were taking advantsge of the lovely winter weather on this long weekend. Great to get a smiley on another old school cache. TFTC.
TFTC - quick and easy find with the help of the hint plus some previous logs. Made us walk up the hill a little further than we probably would have but worth the explore.
TFTC nice uphill walk and fairly easy find but be careful of insects and spiders in the area!
We had a great time on Devines Hill and Finchs Line today, we found the 2 traditionals and it was only once we had completed the walk that we realised we could have done 2 adventure labs too. This cache and the view on the way up was great, and we found it with the help of a log photo. TFTC!
Headed out to do the new Labs in the skates and found this little gem. It’s a great walk through history and a nice little hide. TFTC
What an amazing place of Australian history a lot of cruelty an unkindness some brilliant worksman ship on this road I've wanted to do this 4 years so I give it a favourite point because I loved it so much and it was good because I was able to sign a cache standing in the Stockade it was really hard to imagine what people would have gone through back in that day
On a week's leave off work and spending it locally, today around Wiseman's Ferry for some geocaching. We had a DNF here in 5 June 2020 when we found the burnt hiding spot. Kittykatch kindly placed a new container there in July and we came up the hill today to find and sign. A nice muggle-free rest spot for a snack and a drink before we head further up and around to The Abandoned Convict Road. SL TFTC Cheers... Gaztek
Found with GrimRaider on a drive up the north coast of NSW.
Condition Report:. Container replaced following previous logs reporting that container was burnt out.

We planned to do the grass tree track but the Dharug National Park is still closed due to bush fire. So we did the Convict track. The view over the river was amazing all along the way. We did a lot of stop for the view. Maybe too much because we get the rain for the last half hour of the track !!!
At GZ we spotted the right location for the cache but the bush fire burned everything. The only thing left is a burn plate from a TB. We grab it but now we have to "renew" it!
But no spare container with us. We left our bag in the car. If the next one can make a small maintenance it should be great.

Great day out for a walk with the family, beautiful spot. Unfortunately the bushfires have burnt out the cache, only thing left is in the pic.
We were in the area after driving up from Sydney for lunch in St Albans. We attended a great Convict Footprints event/tour a few years okay we arrived just after 4pm as the warmth of the sun was being exchanged for a winter chill. Up we went to the Stockade. We searched and searched but couldn’t come up with the goods. We found a place that might have been where a container was hidden (see photo). So disappointing because this is a really special place. Will keep watching and return another day. Thanks for bringing us back up here anyway. Cheers... Gaztek
Decided to go for a drive late this arvo out to Wisemans Ferry, via Spencer and Lower Mangrove etc today. I was aware that I might not get thru with all the fire action we've had out there recently so I was ready to turn back if I had to. But I was able to get to the trailhead of Old Great North Road no probs, even though a lot of other trails to the north were all bunted off. Not sure if this gate is normally closed to vehicular traffic or not but it was open today with bunting up saying "fires in the area". So I set off on foot.
On the way up, I passed a fire engine coming down the other way as there was obviously some back-burning still going on up here. The further up I climbed this amazing walk, I could see that it was likely that the fires were just up around Finchs Line, which is a shame as I intended on going there next to grab GCYKPP. But it was definitely closed/ too dangerous to go up that far today. Once at GZ, the smoke was actually quite an issue so I quickly grabbed and signed the cache and headed back down. I dipped our [Jasmer coin](https://coord.info/TB7AXHF) and also dropped off the *[TOYOTA - Moving Forward](https://coord.info/TB7F9E6)* TB which we picked up in Sweden recently, now that it has finished it's race. Also left a novo PT.
Just as I got back onto Old Great North Road from the cache, three more fire vehicles came down from Finchs Line. They all waved and seemed to have things under control. As I descended, the smoke followed but I could not hear anything as it was fairly still. About 500m from the bottom I was overtaken by a fifth fire vehicle. They were obviously busy up here today and by now the smoke was quite thick, even down at this level. I'm glad I didn't leave this any later in the day! Shame I couldn't have kept going though up to Finchs Line. TFTC, Hounddog. Always great finding these oldskool stashes!

Mr minion and I wanted to go for a drive today , So I looked on the map last night for possible destinations and noticed this green dot, I hadn't noticed this old school cache before so decision made we set of this morning, It was a lovely drive and we really enjoyed the walk and seeing the history . Oh the stories this road could tell. Thanks for the great cache Hounddog def fav point worthy. tnln replaced as found sl
Found during a short visit to the wonderful Hawkesbury. Had a wedding at St Albans and grabbed this one on the way home. Walked up from Settlers Road along the Old Great North Road. This has to be one of my favourite historic sites in Australia. Beautifully preserved and maintained and the interpretative signage is brilliant. Thanks for placing this one Hounddog.
Came down to the river from Newcastle today to explore the river and surrounds once again. A great day was had by all.
We’ve driven past this walk so many times and finally stopped today and so glad we did! Lovely stroll up the hill and an incredible section of the old road - what amazing condition it is still in. Fun for the whole family reading all the signs and ‘finding the fleas’.
This was our first bushwalk with our 7 week old too. Great to feel like we are able to get him out safely in the carrier - finally!
Quick find at GZ - and I do live an old log. FP for a fun adventure. We took a heap of photos along the way too. TNLN TFTC

Found on our walk up Divines Hill and then back along Finch's line. There is a fantastic amount of history here and good signage as well. It is always great to find such an old cache with the original logbook. TFTC
What a fantastic achievement our convict forefathers created with this road, and great there is a cache here to encourage us to visit.
Cache was a quick find after the hour walk up the road. TFTC
Dropped off a travel bug and grabbed the 3 that were here.

A really interesting place to explore, finding the cache a bonus on a great day out learning about our history.
My grumpy mate suggested we head North for a couple of caches we'd both had an eye for some years. A cloudy, slightly damp afternoon was just fine for a walk like this and we enjoyed all the informative signage and the craftwork from all those years ago. We circled in on the cache, from the stockade, and signed this veteran, Thanks Hounddog.
A fabulous afternoon walk with my Grumpy mate. The NPWS have done a fabulous job with the restoration of the road and the interpretive tour. A reasonably quick find and good coords considering this is an 18 yo cache.

This has been on my radar for so long being one of our oldest caches. A great walk up the road. The uphill is distracted by all the information to stop and read. This is so will done to remember our past. I had my grandson with us and he was very interested in and the history.giving this a favourite.
Camping nearby was not the best idea, but I spotted thumis old cache that I might be still missing for my callendar
Had quite nice walk in the shade of the trees most of the way up. It was great to read about the history and watch the road under our feet....

One of my main goals for the day. A really nice walk up here with lots to see along the way. I imagine none of that was there at the time the cache was placed?

Well that was a bonus find!
Today I came up to the Central Coast for some bird watching. We started the day at Spencer and worked our way south along the Hawkesbury River towards Wisemans Ferry ending a day with a walk up the Old Convict Road.
I love the history of this area. It really is quite amazing to think of this road being built with the primitive tools of those times and the lack of skills and smaller stature of the convicts, not to mention the poor diet and harsh punishments dealt out to the convicts here.
There are also great views over the river plateau and amazing rock formations along the road.
I knew there was a cache along this road and when the group decided to turn back I checked the GPS and saw this cache was only 83m away, so I couldn't be so close and not have a look for it so I walked on. Once near GZ when the GPS settled the cache was a much easier hide than I had expected.
Great to find this very old cache in such a historic place. Loved the area, favourite point awarded.

A bit of a search, but the better half found it when I was half way down the hill.
Fog burned off as we made our way up the hill. Enjoyed learning about the history of the Great North Rd. Cache was soon in hand. Thanks for bringing us here.
What a trip to walk up here with rain, wind, grey cloud cover and occasional rays of sunshine! We admired the cut-out human shadows, studied every sign, even read the flea news and signed the guest book on the way up and most definitely investigated the culverts, walls, buttresses, the pockmarked blocks and so much more. The plates and the lists of names at the stockade site were heart-breaking. All along we looked up the rock faces and felt the presence of those who were here before the surveyors, engineers and chain gangs came in. They must have wondered what was going on here!
On to the cache itself, which is a neatly hidden, decent-sized container. We were elated to sign the logbook of such an old cache! Thank you for hiding and maintaining it all this time!

Day .... whatever. Lost track of time. We are at OZGeoMuster Mega for about a week, Fangsoki, Crew153 and I traveling in the mighty Suzee. Today we are on the old Pacific Hwy, and still hunting the oldies we trundled out here. Heck of a long way out of our way for this one - hope it was worth targeting it ....
Passed the ferry entrance and parked at the bottom. And trundled up the trail. I took notice of all the informative and interesting history plaques, but also the actual landscape and construction we were walking on. This is amazing. Why (as a Gosford child) did I not know of this history? This is an awesome place. We kept a reasonable pace all the way to the top despite having had several big days prior to this. And in short enough order emerged down the side trail towards GZ. The find was easily made and I dropped off a TB that had been tagging along all week.
I took some photos of everything as we went back down the hill as we wanted to get back so couldn't stop to read everything - but I can do that now. A FP for all that this cache is.
Thanks for placing this cache, Hounddog. Found in good condition.

Fangsoki and Pprime (P') and I were on a road trip for Easter to the Mega Event and had a list of caches that we wanted to get while we were away.
I was impressed by the history of this road. I could have spent all day reading all the information signs and just soaking in the atmosphere but we were running out of time so we headed up the hill and soon found the cache.

Crew 153, Pprime, and I made the "out of the way" journey to this one next.
We parked up and made our way (slowly) up the hill. There certainly was plenty to see while traversing up the hill toward the cache. The area did not disappoint at all
It was Pprime that came up with the cache. We signed the log and re-hid the cache as found. Thankfully, the trip back down was a lot quicker. An interesting bit of history in here.

TFTC, took a little time to find this cache and a little further in than expected. Had to be extra covert as some muggles were talking loudly near by and we had to hide behind a tree. I couldn't walk and sweat so much to get this far to give up but persevering paid off.
Historic cache in a historic location. Have wanted to do this walk for a long time being one of the few sections of the OGNR that I hadn't yet done. A very hot walk up, but made the most reading the siggns and getting a feel for the place. TFTC!!!

Today I set out to cache up to Wiseman's Ferry and around to Ebenezer to grab a good two dozen caches. After filling many bottles of water as I knew it was going to heat right up I was off!
Looking at the legend on my topo I thought this would be a simple drive by on a dirt road. Instead I found a locked gate and a walk ahead of me.
On the way in I noticed a sign about an interactive phone app to go along with the history lesson on the plaques, so after a large download I listened to the documentaries about the history of the road as I made my way up to GZ.
A well engineered road for its day.
After reeturning to my car I drove around to the start of the Finch's Line track as the app also covered the history of that attempt!
Thanks for the cache.

We walked this track (road) from Mogo down to Wisemans Ferry over 3 days some 20 years ago. It's amazing to see how well NPWS has conserved the road, and the interpretive signs are great. Really good to see this history displayed in a living form, and to be able to experience it so easily.
On an overcast Monday morning following a summery July Sunday, we walked up this track completely alone, and saw only three others on the way down.
The cache was a little further in than we'd expected, but perfectly findable.

Day 2 of a school holiday trip to Wisemans Ferry in our brand new geomobile, spending a couple of nights at the Del Rio Riverside Resort, and collecting some caches along the way as we explore this historic area.
Today we went on a circuit drive, firstly driving to historic St Albans, then visiting two sections of the old Great North Road (Devine's Hill & Finch's Line), then up to the Mill Creek camping area, and finally returning to our camp via the Wisemans & Webbs Creek Ferries. This was the 2nd of 4 finds for the day, 13th find of the trip.
After leaving St Albans we drove along Settlers Road, which was mostly dirt, stopping off at Devine's Hill on the old Great North Road. Trekked up the old road, reading all of the interesting information signs along the way, before arriving at the NPWS Visitors Book. Signed the book, just as if we were signing a cache logbook , then continued walking up the road until we reached GZ. A quick search around soon had us with CIH. TNLNSL, and then replaced as found.
A most enjoyable walk, with lots of interesting history to read along the way, and ending with a generously sized "oldie" (2001) cache container & logbook. All of that must be worth a Favourite point from us. TFTC Hounddog.

Today I planned a trip to Wisemans Ferry with the main aim of finding this cache. I found a bus stop cache on the way here and collected some info for a multi where I miss-calculated before heading across on the ferry.
Plenty of parking and made my way up hill. Exchanged greetings with some grandparents who were minding their grand kids during school holidays. Great place to bring kids for a bit of fresh air and an educational walk. I enjoyed reading the stories on many info stations along the way. Finally got to the right elevation and made my way along an obvious trail.
Container and contents in good order. Great to tick off another old school cache. Only one to go to be eligible to find the Lane Cove challenge cache. Had a brief thought about continuing up and along Finches Line Walking track to The Abandoned Convict road but it started sprinkling and the temperature dropped a few degrees since leaving the car. I just wasn't prepared for the longer walk.

What an excellent spot. Plenty of great interpretive signs on the way to GZ. This one has stood the test of time like the works nearby- a little off the main track but still not too hard. Really enjoyed this cache and to top fit off another 2001 cache down! TFTC!
#4150- Our last cache for the day of 12 while out in the area with bikerbuddy on a bit of a trip down memory lane and a caching run. After a few strenuous previous caches today, I was feeling a little on the tired side.bikerbuddy had been here previously, but I had no idea apart from the straight line distance where the cache exactly was.
It wasn't a steep climb, just consistent, but by the time I reached the top, with the rain starting to fall slowly again, I was fairly worn out. It was an amazing trip up though, marked with plaques and sculptures along the way, in addition to the marvellous natural rock formations and convict constructions. A really fantastic history and indeed geography lesson along the way.
Finding the cache was the easiest part- great to see our third The 2 dogs cache for the day.
As always, the trip back seemed shorter and quicker and my knees didn't complain as much. Many thanks. A favourite from me.

How excruciatingly close can you come? We had a splendid time at Convict Footprints today - an interactive play/tour/walk or theatre in the wild. We spent time nearby GZ attending a rough court and listening to the sad stories of some of the convicts who built this amazing road. We knew how close we were but just couldn't dawdle long enough to hunt for the cache as the red coated soldiers were moving us along. Don't worry, we'll be back. Cheers... Gaztek
The walk along this road was so much more interesting now than the last time we did it. There are metal cut outs of figures with information, replicas of items related to convict used items, plaques with more historical info and lots of 'fleas' for kids (young and old) to discover.
The walk itself is along a road where we have driven in times past and the entry to the right area for the cache was easily found. From there it was just a short distance and the cache was found with the common cache hide indicators. We then walked back to the geo vehicle and were pleased we had seen no ghosts on this Haunted Highway. Thank you to The 2 Dogs for this old cache. We are giving it a favourite point for the history, the memories for us and the beautiful rugged area.

Walked up along the road reading all the plaques which are most interesting. Walked to the Stockade site and then after a short search in the bush the cache was soon found. The log was signed and the cache was replaced as found. Thank you The 2 Dogs for placing this cache.
Second time lucky! Headed up the road with the fam in tow determined to find it after it eluded us in April. Happy to say we found it fairly easily this time. Cache is in good condition and we left a little something. Thanks!!

Caching with JordsAU
6 for 14 cache finds today
With ADI at work we decided to head out and do some harder caches. So we decided to cache around Wisemans Ferry today.
We decided to attack this one from Shephards Gully Road, so we drove around to Settlers Road, then turned into Shephards Gully Road, but shortly we found a gate. Oh well... time to walk. We head up the road on foot.. about 10 minutes into the walk you could see were the old track split of to the other side of the gully, but we decided to continue on the main track. The climb seemed to go on for hours but, about 30 monutes later we got to the top of the track, where you could see the old track joining..
We finally get to the intersection of Shepherds Gully road and Old Great North Road where we find another gate and the road starts to head down the other side.. About 10 mins later we get to gz and cache in hand. From here we walked down to "Hangmans Rock" reading and the signs and marveling at of convicts handy work.
During the walk back to the car.. we went down the old path, defiantly quicker!!!

Found with pk1965. We decided to head out to Wisemans Ferry today to tackle some harder caches, with the main goal being the old school '#19 Haunted Highway' Traditional Cache. An early start to beat peak hour traffic, we hit the road and set a course for the 'Hidden History 6 - Blood, Sweat and Pride', which was on the way. After collecting the clues at Waypoint 1, we worked out the final location of the cache and drove over to a spot with some rather impressive views. After a bit of a search around, we made the find and we also performed a mini Cache In Trash Out. Next I thought we should stop by an old cache that had been archived before ever being found, the ‘Snapshot’ Traditional Cache. We found the likely little troglodyte but no cache to be seen unfortunately. We continued through the outskirts of the township of Wisemans Ferry to swing past the ‘Water’s Edge’, which was not quite on the water’s edge but we were able to find it okay.
Returning via the way we came, we stopped in at a café in Wisemans Ferry for a coffee before we found ‘The History of Wiseman's’. A local who worked in one of the shops caught us in the hunt and she seemed to have an idea what we were up to. On the way to the punt, we swung past ‘Old Northern Invertebrates’ and a quick bite to eat at the kiosk. We hopped the car ferry across the river and took the long way to the old school ‘#19 Haunted Highway’ via the Shepherds Gully Road. We made the find at the old stockade site and walked down the Devines Hill track to check out Hangmans Rock.
From here, we took the old road back down Shepherds Gully to where we had parked the car and felt like we had earnt a well-deserved lunch break, so we crossed the river to find a pub in Wisemans Ferry. After a brief stop, we went back over the river in the car ferry and, this time, took the Finch Line by foot to find the cache of the day ‘The Abandoned Convict Road’, which had some amazing views from the top. We continued further along Wisemans Ferry Road and found ‘Run Of The Mill’, ‘TBL #9 Wombat’, ‘TBL #8 Spencer’, the ‘The Universal Hub’ Earth Cache, ‘TBL #7 Scotchmans Creek’ and ‘TBL #6 Bedlam Creek’. We thought we would finish off the day by attempting the ‘Woodbury's Rest’ Multi Cache. Once we found the right entrance into the cemetery, finding the clues was a lot easier but we struggled to locate the physical cache. So, we will have to return another day.
Thanks For The Caches to the respective Cache Owners.

Out for some weekend driving lessons so it was a good excuse to try for some of the older caches around Wisemans Ferry instead of 1.5/1.5 mint tins. Certainly a lot of effort went into construction of this road by hand. Up the incline we went. Some great signage about the history on the way up. Once at GZ the typical 2 Dogs camo/ hide was found and we added our names. Great to see it still going. From here we headed up and then across to Finch's Line to The Abandoned Convict Rd. Off the track at some stage above the collapsed wall we found a number of hand cut drains diverting water out of the creek to assumably limit the amount of water hitting the road in the one spot. We also signed the national parks log book by one of the information signs. TFTC
Thanks! First ever Geocache hunt and find as I signed up today! Local from Wisemans Ferry.
Out with Team Merlin to find this Old School cache on the Great North Road at Wisemans Ferry.
Parking at the indicated location we then set off on foot along the Great North Road towards GZ. Enjoying all the history and points of interest along the way. We decided to follow a well worn track which headed in the direction of GZ. As we approached closer to GZ we saw a likely hide location under some natural camo. With the cache safely in hand, we both signed the log before replacing under the natural camo. Both the log and cache container are in good condition. Then we continued back along the Great North Road to the car. Thank you for bringing us back here
No TB located within the cache. This was the third cache of four for today.
