thanks to the Wanglers. I knew museum open but hadn't reactivated this cache. will check it out over the weekend. happy caching!
Cue dramatic music, rolling boulder and panicked run... Oh no a chasm, just as well I have my trusty bull whip at my side. Thankfully, there is a convenient low hung branch within bull whip distance. Snap and swing to safety.
Yay, the museum has been open for awhile and the mummy has been set up in it's little corner on level 3. I was on my way home and wanted to try and see if these disabled multis in town were accessible since the cordon has been officially lifted. I grabbed a park just outside the museum and headed up to the mummy. The display is fantastic and all the information was retrieved. I miffed the coords a bit as I mixed up my pounds. But I noticed before I jumped on my trusty steed to ride off to the final. I spotted the most likely host for the cache and waited for a lull in the foot traffic. Made the grab, yuck, rotten tree goop and worms in the lid crease, oh poo it smells. The log was wet but the last few pages were dry. I signed the log drained the water and returned the cache upright. Hopefully, the water won't get in. Great wee multi and can be enabled now.
Thanks for the cache.

279 - I solved this quite a few months ago but haven't been in the area to pick up. I had reason to be close to GZ this afternoon so went for an extra wander until I found it. Cache needs a check as although the log was still dry and container had liquid in it and was floating in water. I really enjoyed the Indiana Jones movies, and I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to get the information for this cache. Took TB to move on.
canterbury museum temporarily closed. will disable until museum safe to enter!
Regrettably the museum is being temporarily closed owing to earthquake risk. http://tvnz.co.nz/national-news/canterbury-museum-closed-due-quake-risk-4836009
Found easily without needing the clue. We visited the museum and got the answers needed a couple of weeks ago, but set out today with the intention of completing the hunt. Lots of muggles around, but not enough to make it difficult to look and retrieve. A beautiful day here today with the leaves starting to change colour.

We visited the museum on Saturday when it was stormy outside, and got the final on Sunday when it was a nice day. TFTC.
Interesting to read about the mummy yesterday. Nicer outside today for the find today. Some very interesting 'insects' at the final.
Went to the museum yesterday, but only went to the Cache Today. GPS coords were accurate - Cache was a quick grab. nice to learn something about Christchurchs mummy. TFTC
Went to wareable art in the Museum ( quite stunning ) & now it is open knocked off this cache . Don't usually bother with the add this , multiply by the first number you think of type caches but we are running out of local traditional caches. With it beign a simple multi we gave it a go and came up trumps. Ok LG pounced on it from 50 m. Thanks LGM
On our way from Christchurch to Wanaka, for a week stay. From Wisconsin...on 18 day tour visiting Fiji, NZ and AU. We are staying in Wanaka and on our drive over, decided to stop and stretch our legs. Always have to stop for a multi! LOL very well done and not too much of a problem with the finds. SL TFTC
We are here visiting Christchurch for awhile today while on vacation. Parked the car and did a walking tour of a few of the downtown caches. Made our way over here. The museum is GREAT, the cache just adds to the experience. After gathering the clues we toured around the place before we headed out to make the find. Not sure what we did wrong, but our coordsinates were off about 60 meters. Even with that error my wife, BunnyFuFu still was able to make the find. The Hints were a great help however!! Thanks for this FUN cache, we enjoyed it all!!
On vacation caching with our friends Anne and Dan in the Fiji, New Zealand, and Austraila. Logs were signed BenDiGiFu. We are from the USA. Thanks for placing the cache....Benny7210

Container really creepy crawly, otherwise quick find. Uplifted the two travel bugs to move closer to caches with more visitors.
Have been to museum before, amazing how much more you can take in when you have a reason to read all the information on the exhibits. Cache location was a best guess as GPS wasn't liking the tree cover, but found within a few minutes. Cache hide location is also a bit saturated, did best when placing back to water tight the lid as best as possible.
team were fascinated by dead body being the museum, very enjoyable. Worked this out just before earthquake one and finally got back to it. tftc
Had a fun wee explore around the museum today - not been before. I think I will have to take my gf back with me for a better look some time. Also picked up the info for Paua Shell House. Easy find in an ideal hiding place. Dropped GC and my TB. TFTC (373)
TFTC. It felt fantastic to be in the museum today. I enjoyed this cache and see by the log that several others have been watching this waiting for the access to be permitted. Left TB.
[Collected the information from the museum a few weeks ago on a previous caching outing with "my" small group from school. They got stuck on a few (either this on or Paua House) so asked museum staff. Staff were impressed with the questions asked for both caches and seemed to welcome any reason to get people visiting the museum.
Todays outing took us back to the area, so they made the find. My phone had the clue as] "about shoulder height", [so didn't expect to see it where it was. Hidey hole is a bit boggey but cache contents nice and dry.]
(Edited when I realised date was wrong - our school group goes out on a Wednesday!)

Yes, the museum is open. So I popped in to gather the necessary information, then went for a pleasant walk to find the cache. This cache is definitely good to go again. TFTC.
Museum to find clue answers is closed due to earthquake damage. May reopen in late May 2011. Will update cache when museum back up and running.
I remember seeing this dispaly as a kid growing up in Christchurch. Nice to re-visit in conjunction with a cache now that we're geocachers! TFTC
Very wet afternoon. Thought a trip to the museum was in order (good way to keep dry?!)....got totally drenched walking from car to museum. Oh well. Got the info & spent a good wee while in the Discovery Centre. Most fun. On leaving the rain had become drizzle so we drove around to the final and Mrs Gaters pushed me out the door....quick, damp find. TFTC and the entertainment.
A visit to the mummy after the "Heart of the Great Alone" Exhibition. Culture and caching in the same day! An Easy walk on a great day. TNLN TFTC
Indiana Jones movies rock!
This was my last cache find in Chch before flying home to Invercargill, and glad I could pick up one of the Canterbury Museum caches.

Found the dim lighting in the museum quite challenging for my aging eyesight. Glorious afternoon for a stroll and thought that the co-ords were one tree off. Or did the eyesight fail me after all?
We found the Cache on our tour through New Zealand. TFTC and showing us the Canterbury Museum.
Had visited the museum on the previous day and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. However, missed this cache, so returned on a very wet day to quickly find the answers and head off to the final. On the way the rain became very heavy, so a stop for lunch was in order. Eventually braved the extensive puddles to head to GZ. Quick find and muggle free - surprise, surprise. T4TC.
mixing tourist stuff with geocaching - i like it pitty we got soaked due to the weather!!
(162) Took advice and did this at same time.. Got a wee bit more wet.. Still great fun.. Dropped off Myrtle the Turtle Geocoin.. Was wanting to at the last cache as it seemed fitting.. Never mind this is pretty close to home..

Got the info some time ago and collected on a lunchtime walk. Nice hide. TFTC TNLNSL
Went to the museum last year and gathered all the info. But it started to rain as we left the museum so we left it for another day. Were in the area today, so made a quick detour under the trees, GPS all over the place, but eventually found the obvious hide. TFTC

Checked out the museum on Sunday 13th, and found cache today. Was grateful I had my bike with me...
Great one to track down. Had my son working through the clues for this one and the Paua House, so very pleased that he managed to pick out the right figures. Enjoyed pulling this one together.
Collected the data for this and the Paua House cache earlier in the day, and got a chance to look for the cache between 'stages' of a family event. Fortunately we must have got our data collection and number crunching correct as we found this one, unlike Paua House. Nice sneaky little hide.

Good one on my second try - helps when you do the sums right - had to walk about a bit to wait for 2 muggles to pass before the re-hide. TFTC
We are trying to tidy up the central city multis at the moment so decided to pick a couple off on Friday night. Not such an easy find at night, especially with lots of spiders and bugs (and even a rat!) about around the GZ. Cold too last night.
Finally located even though reception poor. Cache dry. TFTC

Cache full of water, log saturated. Placed new paper in cache but no time to dry contents. Thanks
I enjoyed finding the clues at the museum. I was wondering why I could see the cache sticking out of its hiding place as I approached. Then I realized that it was because the hiding place was full of water. However, the inside of the cache container is nice and dry. Had to wait forever to return the cache as a man with his elderly dog ever so slowly wandered past with frequent breaks.
Found quickly, looked in the wrong place for a start. The cache was sitting, no floating in water. I tried to remove some of the water, the cache was damp inside but not too bad.

Second ClownyCacher cache found today. Took a wee while as hadn't the co-ords, but relied on memory (had found with StreetWalkerNZ a while back but not logged), hint and google, but there were still a few places that needed searching. Just about to give up when I spotted something that needed investigating - sure enough it was the cache.
As mentioned in a previous log, the cache is floating in water but still dry inside.

Solved the clues ages ago but unable to do cache due to not being able to stretch etc after an operation. No problems today and I was surprised that the cache was lovely and dry as container is swimming in a wee bit of water.
one of many found before i leave this beautiful country! TFTC
loved this cache!

Great cache - tricky find - needed to do a bit of acrobatics to get to the final location!
The afternoon rain was a perfect opportunity to enjoy the Canterbury Museum and it's wide variety of exhibits. Great stuff! Luckily, the rain let up and we were off to the park. The only Indiana Jones trick was dodging the traffic since we seemed to miss the crosswalk before finding the cache. Find #640
[Found the answers day before but didn't get to final location until next day. GPS wandered about a bit but found right spot.] All muffins were rather on the small side so head height didn't really apply. Luckily we had an athletic muffin to retrieve cache. [No pencil so improvised log entry with rubber spider.

[Enjoyed another visit to the museum and a walk in the gardens on the perfect afternoon Darn those trees at GZ! After a couple of approaches the GPS did settle in th right spot. Great hiding place... ] I'm glad I'm not short!!
Had done all the leg work earlier this year. Quick find in the morning on the way home from breakfast in town. TNLN TFTC.
Found on my last morning before flying back to Wellington. Enjoyed the Museum, checked out the Paua House as well. Found after a short hunt GPS wandering around a bit, but the Hints got me there. TNLN SL TCTC
Visited the Museum to track down the clues (and to visit the Paua Shell house) after having lunch in the park. Good to visit the mummy again - and this time had a good read of the panels on the wall. Final location was very clear. TFTC
I wandered around the museum ages ago (the morning of the day the Paua Shell House cache was published darn it!) and finally had some spare time to pick up the final tonight. And interesting idea for questions and a nice easy find. TNLN thanks.
Thanks so much for this cache. The whole time I was collecting the answers it felt like it was a themed cache especially for me. TFTC (415)

We had no ent of difficulty Tricky to find under all those trees. Good exercise for a GPS... Dead reckining is best here (laylines)
I reckon this one deserves a 2.5 star rating - real ingenuity used to selct this location. Most enjoyable to date.
Solved this one and Paua Shell House together. An interesting visit to the museum. TFTC
We took the tram to the museum and then had an enjoyable look around yesterday.
Returned this morning for the final, which was quickly retrieved.
Thanks.

Found the cache without difficulty today, with nzcoozer, after answering the questions yesterday. Some interesting history. TFTC
[Found on 2nd try.
The first time we went to the Museum the gallery at the museum was crowded with a group of schoolchildren which made getting to the answers a bit hard.
Much nicer today and easily found where I had gone wrong the first time.]
Found myself cursing my short height at one stage, but achieved the cache finally.
[Picked up the geocoin.
Thanks for making me go to the museum again. It was nice.]
[By the way, there was only 1 clue piece left in the cache, so I just copied it down. You may need to replenish these ]

A nice wander around the museum to find the mummy. Took us a wee while to obtain the answers but we learnt a bit along the way. Walked to the cache site via the Paua House cache. A quick find once the GPS settled down in the area. Took the geocoin TFTC
We really enjoyed the walk around the cool museum. Thnaks for taking us there - so many aspects of NZ to appreciate and helpful staff too!

Very interesting history behind this. TFTC. Good hidey hole too. Took Eagle 2 geocoin. WWD 2007 coin not there.
Had found the answers awhile back and was back in town today to view the di Vinci exhibit before it moved on. Had just enough time to go hunting for it today while the boys headed of to the playground. Lots of cricket on today but didn't interfere with signing the log. Heard a loud 'howzat' called as I walked back to the car.
Swaped tb out for a geocoin in. Thanks for the cache I look forward to future ones.
