The weather wasn't good enough to climb up on mountains but not so bad so after 2 months in Hanmer I could finally do the cache trip in and around the city. TFTC
Completely wet - the container was a half full of water. Unfortunately, I donated my only plastic bag to a previous cache.

In the area with two of our grandsons who were out testing their new bikes. With one of them having a few mechanical issues we made our way here. We think the signage for the tracks is the most confusing system we have come across. We met some others who felt the same.
We ended up in an area about 250 meters from this cache - too close not to come and have a look for it.
We got to an area and we were not sure if we should go left or right - gk went left and I went right - after a while we realised that maybe gk was on the right tract so we raced to find him. Then we looked at the phone and the in and out tracking on the phone was about 70m apart - with the out track showing we had gone right past it.
So with gk gathered up we headed back along the track where gk made a nice quick find.
Nice to see and old log book
Thanks for placing this cache and thank you for the smiley

The thing I love about geocaching is it taking you to places you otherwise wouldn't go to. We almost certainly would have gone and done some of the walks without geocaching but wouldn't have ventured this far down this access road, and it was such a pretty walk
Quick find when on the correct side of the stream. Forgot pen do couldn’t sign log. TFTC
Went for a walk to grab this cache. A nice easy loop track with a nice quick find by my niece. TFTC
quick find. on our way down from the waterfall via the sour track. really enjoying all the bellbirds singing and escorting us.
Yippee found it, what a lovely walk....didn't bring the car as when I saw the "buckle up" sign I knew my Nissan cube wouldn't make it....potholed road in Christchurch are basically flat compared to "roads" in Hanmer forest area
We had a lovely walk up from the Hanmer Forest car park as our little Nissan Cube just wouldn't make it up to the nearby car park. It's a beautiful day however, so was great to stretch our legs in this beautiful woodland. The sound of the river as we made our way up was so majestic, a great way to relax and unwind. The cache was a quick find, thank you for bringing us too this area.
We might have got lost as autorouting did not suggest a good way to this cache but prior research meant we knew which roads to follow and where to park. Then an enjoyable walk to and from GZ where the hint helped with a quick find. The hint was not really needed but we tend to use it on older caches and we hadn't realised that it had been found reasonably recently. A long time since we found a cache from the CO and we went on to make it 2 from 2.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Enjoyed a couple of hours bike ride today while staying at Hanmer while on our July tour of the South Island. Thanks Annie & PB for the cache. Quick find for me today after a walk though another lovely part of the forest

Found this one on a really nice weekend with the missus. GeoYoungling #3 away at band camp?!?!? Nothing for it, other than to head away for a romantic weekend. We walked up the Waterfall Track to the falls, and returned via the Spur Track. Such a nice track, and the best way to visit the falls IMO. Found the cache in good shape in the described hit spot. Easy as!
Been a while since I've cached, and it is nice to find this one. I had forgotten to load up the GPSr before the hike, and so did not have the info for the one at the falls. Reception was better here.

Got to this cache by accident. Up at the waterfall we were thinking what track to take from there and chose the Spur Trail. But it was not marked on my map so had no idea where would it go out. I though it would go up to the ridge but after a very short up it went down and down and to here and then to another carpark on the road we drove to get to the Waterfall carpark.
Nice wee adventure and an unplanned cache bonus!
Will now map out the Spur trail for future reference and other cachers ️

In Hanmer for a week of work and this was my day off so took to the Jacks/Jollies loop. Jollies pass is just as I remember it 20 or so years ago, lumpy, bumpy and very rutted. Such fun coming down. Did the wee detour up to this one and was a rewarding wee 15 minute loop to get it easy enough.
A nice little walk here and a cache as well! Lovely day today, out with Campmotherandken TFTC
Found during a very pleasant day walk around these wonderful forest trails. There certainly is a confusion of tracks just here, but soon realised the best approach. No problems finding the container. Many bellbirds calling around us and so close to us too! Thanks Annie & PB.
Found on a rainy day in Hanmer! Bit of moist in the log, but should be fine. Thanks!
Found with Kiwimykl on a drive through the Rainbow, refer to his log for details.

Found with NZDi on Day 2 of our short holiday in Hanmer Springs. We have had the two days between Waitangi Day and the weekend booked as leave since the end of last year with no real plan to do anything, but a week ago I checked the bookings for the company holiday home in Hammer Springs and saw it was free today and tomorrow. After a quick word with NZDi, it was booked and I began researching a geocaching trip. In a moment of inspiration I thought about going through the Rainbow Road to give NZDi's new geomobile a real test. Although all the warnings say you need a high ground clearance 4WD and the Sportage is a bit of a soft roader, I still thought it would have the goods to do the job, and it did although I had to use 4WD on one occasion for 50m.
As we didn't know how long caching would hold us up on the trip, we considered bypassing the caches up to six mile stream as we could come back and do them any time. In the end we decided to do them all and we still arrived in Hanmer Springs before we were allowed to check in. So we decided to do some of the caches around town that we intended to do today.
After getting two out of three attempted caches in the west of town, we decided to head for another triple in the south part of town and had the same strike rate, (two finds and a DNF). I hope this is not going to be the story of our Hanmer Springs holiday. Having checked into our accommodation, there was still plenty of time to head out and get some more caches. So we went and did three caches to the east of town. For a change there were no DNF's with those. Then we went to the Hanmer Forest to get a couple of caches before heading off for some dinner. We then went for an after dinner walk up Conical Hill and got a final cache making a total for the day of 35 caches.
Because we got a few more caches yesterday than we had intended we had less to get today, which meant we only had nine caches left to find in Hanmer Springs if you excluded the one up Mt Isobel. This was the eighth find of the day and we noticed there was an access point to it further down the road, so we took the lazy option. We walked up the track and past the clearing with all the bee hives, which made NZDi nervous as she has an allergic reaction to bee stings. Not one that means we need to carry an Epi Pen around but she still needs to carry anti-histamines around with her. The cache was found a short time later further along the track.

In Hamner doing an event...had time to nip out and grab a cache or two...beat little walk to this well placed cache ..Thanks Annie&PB
This was a bonus cache for me. We were participating in a trail "run" - not much running at times as trail led up and up to 609 meters then down, some on very slippery gravel. I got to within 100m of the cache then our trail diverted away from it. When we finally got to the drink stop I could see we were 250m away. Macwatt was keen to go to this cache. Wizzbizz realised what we were up to so she came along too. This part of the trail was lovely and a breeze in comparison with what we had run. I had no data coverage at gz so we just had to wing it, but all good. Thanks for bringing us here.
Out for a walk and made the mistake of going up the road. Headed round the awesome walk track. Easy find, well worth the walk
Out for a bike ride - these easy tracks around Hanmer are pure joy! Then, we took the bikes up to the start of the Nature Walk and, don't worry, parked them there while we enjoyed the loop walk. A lovely little creek. A pause at the bench, then finished the walk, picked up the bikes and jumped on them again to bike back down. Lovely reason to explore this loop walk, thanks Annie & PB!
Attacked this from the wrong start point. Got lost and trappef in the overgrowth. Great exercise but no find. cheers from casa del hince TFTC
Found on a road trip to Richmond and Nelson from the deep dark South of Dunedin.
Having a great time hunting down caches in a load of different places.
Thanks for your efforts in hiding your caches.

A lovely stroll around to the GZ spot & found easily. Container slightly damp. TFTC
After not finding the waterfall cache we went here to have one today. Quick find. Tftc!
Poo.
Came up to Hamner Springs for a family overnight stay.....catch up with my sister who is completing the Rainbow Rage (mountain bike 106km from St Arnaud to Hamner Springs!)....
Came out for a bike ride early in the morning before having to vacate our accommodation. Got here via the road and mountain bike tracks. Great fun. Found the loop walk entrance & saw 'No Bikes' so walked my bike in the last 200m....took a seat & found nothing. Grrrr. Looked abit more. Time was running short. It was now 9:30 and we had to be out of our cabin by 10....and I still had a bit of a bikeride to get back! That's when I read some logs & saw someone earlier mentions being at a seat but on the wrong side...wrong side? what??!!! argh. Loop track. Of course....there must be another seat over the other side of the river! Poo. Not sure how far the loop is & not enough time to walk back out, find the other end of the loop track then walk back in (find the cache) and then out again, I had to abandon...Poo. So I hurridly walked back out the loop track, jumped on my bike and hoooooned back to our cabin to help the final pack and then leave...Poo. So close & yet so far! NEXT time. LOL. Should have read the logs beforehand!

Now just waiting for nearby multi to be checked.
Thanks for the cache.

#755: TFTC! My first cache in New Zealand! Hopefully many more to come! First intro to yhe wonders of geocaching to NeilG1964 also Nice find after wet tramp around the Waterfall and Spurs Trails.
Sat in a seat on the wrong side of the creek but kept following the loop and found the right spot.
Found orginally as part of phasevisitor team, now created own account, re-logging as yorkshirekiwi83.
Spent the day in Hanmer Springs, doing a few short walks and picking up a few caches. After a short walk along the nature trail, the cache was soon found. TFTC!

After a false start-wrong side of stream, should have kept walking- we got there in the end. TFTC
Visiting NZ from Scotland so exploring Hanmer today with D and E.
Needed to be fairly committed to get this cache today - very snowy path, lots of branches down across the path presumably because of weight of snow. But we made it!

found on the way back from Deefer falls. It was a fare trek this one.But made the beer at the pub all that more enjoyable.TFTC
After spending too long bush bashing discovered the GPS had been bumped in my bike shorts and we'd been sent on a wild cache hunt 1km off course! Mrs Anniversary cache hunter most forgiving. Found the actual cache without much more drama.
Easy find while on a working round the holiday home "holiday" took the long way so did the circuit and totally enjoyed the walk ( I suspect many years ago I may have ridden my MTB on this track). TFTC
Ifound it! I found it! It's not lost anymore. I know where it is. What a pleasant little walk this is.
Cheers for the cache.
We found this one on the way back down from the falls. It was a nice wee walk. Looks alot different to last tiime I was up this way and the forest had not been logged out in that area. Lovely we walk from the logged area to the cache. Had a wonderful day. Thanks heaps.
Read the cache page and decided it was such a short walk compared to what we had done so far today that we would do the whole loop. Very easy find and walk and car parking was easy too. Nice that the start and end points are so close together. Very nice bush area to walk through.
Last day of the long weekend and it turned into a showery, drizzly one. It looked like a fine break so decided to do this walk before we left. Drizzle returned while we were on the track but it wasn't heavy or too cold so we completed the loop and found the cache along the way. Very nice walk it was too. TFTC, Biggles.
Today is the last day of our holiday in New Zealand. We drove from Hanmer Springs to Christchurch and have visited this box. Thanks
This is the last cache in Hanmer Springs for our holidays. For the others we have to come an other time. Thanks
This was another enjoyable walk to a cache. It took me a while to work out a good place to park though.
4386. The eighth cache find on the second day of our six day geocaching tour around Hanmer and Kaikoura in our campervan. Found immediately after a nice walk from where the van was parked. The knee is playing up today so I was pleased we could park quite close! Thanks, Rodney and Iris.
Found this before phone gps did thanks to hints. Pleasant walk - not done this one before. TFTC
A bit of a walk, the gate was locked when I arrived so had to walk from the road. I was rather annoyed to see cars driving the road on my return and the gate unlocked. Might be useful if they posted some opening hours on the gate!
Nice spot however, TFTC

Found this after completing the Dog Stream Waterfall. My young assistant was pretty tired and this geocacher was pretty knackered as well. A hard won cache. TFTC
