US14 ET Highway Trip with Sol de Lune and Mtrax. Day 22. Time to cross a few more US states of the list for Caching, starting in Casper, Wyoming. Today we set off from Rapid City to go North to get to North Dakota. A travel day, but a high priority on caching. We saw quite a few small towns along the way and got to explore a lot of out of the way spots. It was fun to visit this town, quite a reputation and lots of things of interest to check out in and around town. Thanks.

Heading north from Rapid City via Sturgis and Spearfish heading to North Dakota ending up in a small town call Belfield
Our main aim was to visit and geocache in a few more US States.
Greetings from Canberra Australia.
Logged as "SAM" which is a team of three Sol De Lune, Albida33 and Mtrax. Visiting the US as a team for the 2nd time, our mission to complete the ET series but before and after do some more exploring and geocaching along the way. Our tour starts around Barstow and a few days in Las Vegas before caching over to 29 Palms before hitting the ET Highway straying at Rachel and Tonapah.
Our second stage of our trip saw us doing a loop around Wyoming, Nebraska, South & Nth Dakota and Montana before finishing back in Los Angles, our finds for the trip totalled well over 4,000 geocaches.

Oops, originally got this one confused with Deadwood #3 which we didn't find. TFTC almost missed it.

I was forced to take a few days off of work, so I started thinking. I talked to jREST to see if he would be up for another Sodak trip. I figured that with two and a half days, we could knock out the bottom two tiers of DeLorme pages with corresponding counties. So, a plan started to develop and our list grew from there. A minimum of caches to qualify for the DeLorme, County, and County Seat Challenges for the two of us were chosen. We hit thirty-one SD counties and thirty pages. We even picked up five of each in Nebraska. All told 1812 miles were put on the car. Thanks to all the cachers who have placed caches along our route to make these challenges doable.
We found a place to park the car and the walked on over to ground zero. Not too many options, so we had it in hand. Got a couple weird looks from the local postal employees, but nothing too serious.

Made it into Deadwood this morning with Boreal Walker on a road trip mission across the southern part of SD. After finding a place to stop the cache mobile, we were off on foot and headed to GZ. Made the find pretty quick and got our name on the log before the USPS folks got to nervous.
Really cool old buildings here, looking forward to coming back on two wheels to explore the area a bit more this summer. TFTC

Find #5450 and 3rd of 4 finds today.
I am in the area this week doing software training for customers in Black Hawk, and had some time today to do some site-seeing, so I decided to visit Deadwood. I had a great time, even though I was only here for a couple hours.
After finding a couple caches up the hill at Mt. Moriah Cemetery, I found a spot to park downtown not far from GZ and walked along Lower Main Street. I asked a gentleman who was walking down the street what were the best things to check out. He asked me how long I had, and I told him I had one hour. So he recommended the Saloon 10 (the old and new one). I asked him where the casino that Kevin Costner owns was, and he pointed that one out to me.
So I went looking for the old Saloon 10, found the jewelry store that was next door, and they told me that the old saloon was currently closed for reservations. I went looking for the "new" one, found it, and walked around inside. (Wild Bill Hickok's "death chair" was very cool.)
Then before I headed back to my hotel in Rapid City, I wanted to find one more cache, and this was the one I picked. It was a fairly quick find. SL.
But then, since the gentleman I talked to earlier recommended the Adams museum, I decided to take a look around in case they were open. They were, and WOW, what a museum! The Wild Bill Hickok stuff was especially cool, but I enjoyed walking around all three floors. I had no idea there was so much inside here.
After I gave my donation, I was lucky to talk to who I think is the director of the museum. She told me lots of neat things about the museum and Deadwood. She told me that the only thing Wild Bill Hickok did in Deadwood was die (he was only here three weeks before he was killed). She also told me that the "Deadwood" HBO show was fairly authentic, except of course it did dramatize things. I asked her if they really talked with so much profanity as they did on the show, and she said she believes that was true. She said Al Swearingen was much worse than how they portrayed him on the show. I asked her if Kevin Costner visits his casino every once and a while and she said she didn't think so, but said she met him once and she said he was a very nice guy (but a terrible blackjack player). Probably the most fascinating part of my conversation with her (and the young guy working the desk) was that they believed the museum (and the Adams House) were haunted because they hear strange noises all the time. Apparently at one time a ghost hunters TV show was filmed inside the museum.
Anyway, I really enjoyed my time in Deadwood, short as it was. I hope to come back here again someday to explore it some more.
