DNF today. Solved puzzle, found hiding place and tell-tail, but no cache emerged. CO might need to check this one?
It's another puzzle cache dot day, and being that it's a Saturday and I have loads of time up my sleeve so I got on the bike and cycled from Pito-One to Silverstream fir this cache - I may as well pick one further away.
The only puzzles in my GPS are those that are solved - that have corrected coordinates. So I walked into the bush at GZ, found the pipes and some blackberry and no cache. Time to read the description. Maybe I missed something.
Ah! I did! This cache is a multi! That's why I had corrected coordinates, that only led me to the published coords. Soon had a new set, then got on the bike again to cycled off to the final. Back through the bush and the blackberry. Oh - I really did approach this from the wrong direction! I scaled the cliff and started hunting. I looked and felt in the hidey hole but did not see (or feel) the cache or its tell-tail. It was only after climbing down the cliff and deciding that the cache was not there that I climbed back up and reinvestigated my earlier assumptions. That was when I saw the telltail. Nice cache container. Alas won't fit the path tags that I brought with me.
Time for a cycle back. Stopped off to check on some puzzles for later, and by the time I got back it was fully dark. Just in time for dinner!

The kids enjoyed answering the questions and then helping to find the cache. A spot we had never visited before. TFTC MAC_42.
Looked at the info and please to see the nature of the task was essential a multi. Soon had the co-ords and recognised the cache type so soon had the log in hand. A fav point for the recycled cache container. Thanks CO for the cache.
Caught the train out to Silverstream late morning and biked the Hutt River tail as far south (southwest) as Ava Station in Petone, where we jumped on the train with our bikes again. Lovely early autumn day and seven caches located along the way. Straightforward answering the questions for this one and picking up the nearby cache. #3215. TFTC.
Found the coordinates no trpuble from the information board and the final location looked reasonable. Hiding place was obvious when I arrived but covered in cobwebs and I poked around for a while before finding the clear method of extraction. Cool container. Love a good 1 stage multi. Thanks for the cache!
#7357. This old timer (2008 cache) has been spotted a few times as I scan the available puzzles in the Hutt Valley. But for some reason or other I haven't found the time or opportunity to stop and complete the tasks. Today I was driving up here with Mrs GSEL and we stopped to do the puzzle/multi. Once at the information board Mrs GSEL was soon gathering the data and putting it into the notebook. Just one slight confusion point with the Forest and Bird sign but the nature of that question soon made the answer obvious. Plugged in the new coordinates and we were off to the GZ. Once we arrived there the hiding place was obvious. But I dropped the container and had to scramble down to retrieve it. Otherwise all good and soon it was signed and replaced as found. Thanks Mac 42 for the cache.
In spite of the rather wet morning I was out for a walk along the Hutt River Trail to pick up the last few caches I needed to get the third (gemstone) souvenir for the Mystery at the Museum. I rater liked the sound of this Mystery cache as being an easy one and sure enough, it was very quick to solve and easy to find. A clever reuse of an old household item as a cache container I must say. Nice to be able to read about this restoration project in solving the co-ordinates too. Its a shame more people don't even think about attempting Mystery and Multi caches: some of the easier ones actually take less time to find than a lot of Traditionals! This one is in that category. Thanks Mac 42 for this cache.
(# 5044). Was in the area to grab a few caches. Having collected the required information it was a quick trot to the final to retrieve the container which was nicely hidden away. A quick find. Everything in order. TFTC
Mum and me went for a walk. Well I was supposed to ride my new bike but instead i thought mum could carry it for me, ... and of course, carry me too. she is super mum. I had a play with this cool container, but it didnt seem to work?
# 1166 Cleaning up some puzzles in the area for the ?streak challenge. This one gave DangerSAM and myself a chance to get out for a walk and doing a bit of a field puzzle at the same time. Got data and final but wandered off down to the train bridges where we must have loitered for a good 40 minutes throwing stones and waiting for the trains to thunder along over head! DangerSAM loved it. Then a stroll back to get the final. A very creative cache container and a cool hide. Gets a fav from me for the simplicity and practicality of it. Thanks Mac 42 for the lovely cache and bringing me to an entrance to the Hutt bike trail i had never used before.
Found with pazzabella quickly on our second visit. What a relief after needlessly, previously bush bashing. tftc
Phew, some reworking of numbers and geocchi and I realised we were searching about 50 meters from where we should have been. No wonder we couldn't find the hint item. Doh! No dnf's after all. tftpc
Cool cache - happened to be very handy to where i was parked!
Thanks for putting this here

Bit whiffy here today.
Another Mega and the inevitable list of cache finds to log. Not really a chore, just time consuming for this old geriatric. My apologies for the repetitive logs but I will attempt to add a few additional comments as I go. Had a great two days. Catching up with other cachers is always great. Day one was mainly a solved puzzle collection with little blue hen and Kiwicouple. We also squeezed in a few adjacent traditionals and a couple of multis while participating in the CITO event in Trentham Memorial Park. Quiz night was a fun event after a very tasty roast dinner and we were happy to finish only 4 points behind the eventual winners. Day two little blue hen and I gathered a few more traditionals that we hadn't done close to the Mega centre. A few coffees, a favourite point or two, some frustrating searching at one or two and then off home for a rest. Thanks to all the COs for making it another fun weekend. Now to prepare for the Melbourne Mega in November. TFTCSL

After the Mega Registration we teamed up with bkj97 and Little Blue Hen to tackle our list of solved puzzles and the trads along the way. We decided to stop at Hulls Creek to do this easy field puzzle. We had no problems getting the final coordinates, and the hint made for a quick find of the nicely hidden cache. TFTC
Found with Bkj97 and Kiwi couple on our puzzle solving expedition whilst at the MEGA. Great day's caching and exploring the Upper Hutt area. T4TCSL
Day two. Part one. I decided to take two extra days off work for WENZ weekend. Bbear arrived last night and we are staying in Upper Hutt. Today's plan is to stay in the Hutt and Petone area most of the day until after the fish n chip event. Thanks for hiding and maintaining your geocache.
Sadly there is no large event in New Zealand in 2019 but there are a few Mega events planned in Australia. I plan on going to the OzGeomuster in July. To find out more visit this site: https://www.ozgeomuster.com.au

I solved this one quite a while ago. I thought I had recorded a find previously, but I must have decided to save it for another day. Well... today was the day!
Surprisingly, I had to wait for some people to walk past before I could get on with the searching. In the end I had to resort to the hint. It was straightforward after that.
The cache is in good condition. All nice and dry.
Thank you

I didn't solve the final coords on the spot and there was about a 2-week interval between visits. As soon as I remembered while passing by at a non-busy time of day I stopped here to find the cache. Lots of cobwebs to deal with but a quick find despite being well hidden. TFTC,
A few muggles in the car park, but it was possible to retrieve the cache without them being aware. A quick find - thanks for bringing us to an area we have not visited before, and thanks for the cache.
TFTC. This one has been on my 'to do' list for a couple of years, but I never seemed to have the time to stop and seek this one out. Today was the time to finally attempt this epic quest. Actually, the hardest part was getting into the parking area, there was a steady stream of traffic, so I ended up driving further away, turning round, and coming back! No counting mishaps at the sign, and the final location quickly verified, the log signed, and back into the car and onwards!
Went with the kids to solve this one ages ago now, but only just keyed in the co-ordinates to actually go and find it. Great we hide, the kids loved the cache itself.

Last one of the night; solved the puzzle on the bike ride down to Avalon, picked this one up on the ride home.

On a walk from Silverstream to Stokes Valley and back. Worked out the cache location without problems apart from getting eaten alive by sandflies at the sign. Cache itself nicely hidden. Thanks for the puzzle and thanks for the cache.
#2247 Solved a while ago and saved for a cache of the day. Found this on the way back from Lower Hutt with wb-Jnr and wb1117. Thanks for another MAC42 special.
#2314 It was such a nice day today that I decided to get out on my bike and explore some more of the Hutt. Instant find here before getting the bike out again to whip up the trail to another cache. Haven't stopped in this area before so it was nice to have a reason to- will have to return to the Railway Museum another time. TFTC!
Enjoyed this puzzle cache and found it on a hot sunny post-Xmas afternoon. TFTC and for informing me of this great restoration project. tnlnsl
Found with nz1 and gbnz early in the morning when not busy. My first mystery. Great puzzle and hide, Tftc.
I went down to the noticeboard a couple of weeks ago when I was in the area and collected the info (i.e. took photos) to solve back at home. Came back this evening to pick it up. A quick find. TFTC
BTW, the mechanism for holding the cache in place is quite rusty and a piece came away in my hand - could do with a bit of TLC.

Did a nearby cache today, and found this with Violet Butterfly. Love the hide! Thank you.

Took me a few minutes longer as I forgot to double legs on gecko. Also I was not sure about the answer to clue 1 as there is an extra bird if you look closer. A volunteer track maintenance crew was hard at work nearby but I wasn't tempted to lend a hand as they were getting stuck into a blackberry patch and were dressed for it! Be careful to put the cache back the right way around, as I didn't and had to use tweezers to retrieve it. Tricksy. TFTC and the puzzle Mac!
My second mystery cache of the day. Now that I have achieved 100+ finds I want to spend more time looking for mystery/multi caches.

Quick find today cool cache container, unfortunately there was a terrible, terrible smell round here today so didn't hang around to long, TFTC.
Forgot to log this one, but found it aaaaagges ago . We've been a bit busy with a baby
I was passing in a hurry a few weeks ago, so I whipped out and grabbed a photo of the sign and solved at home. I was in the area again today so I called in to grab the cache. I initially thought it had been muggled, but I was wrong, just expert hiding. Superb container too. Fav from me. TFTC.
Headed off in the wrong direction initially (having not read one of the clues properly) but ended up with the cache in hand. It's a really picturesque area.
We deciphered this one from a photo of the sign taken several months ago in anticipation. As a result we weren't 100% sure the solution was correct but solved co-ords were spot on and cache was immediately found. Nice container. With Jax479

Found the info as the sun was setting. Quick grab. Fantastic container, great hide. TFTC
Quickly recovered today, as i had solved, and 'found' the cache a month or so ago ... and kept it as an 'emergency' cache. All in good condition. I like the cache details, as well as the hide method. Well done.

Took photos of info board the other month while on nearby retreat. Solved at home and wanted a puzzle for my next century. De-lighted by the cache hide after a long uphill walk earlier in the day and a DNF.

Cache # 1,243 - did today with Downunder Wanderer. Quick solve at the sign, a little longer to track the cache down as we went the wrong way around. SL. TFTC!
Find #1585. Another nice Sunday in Wellington so another chance to go cycle-caching. Biked along the Hutt River Trail from Haywards to Birchville, then working my way back via caches. Not sure why I couldn't find this one when I had looked some time ago, but today went straight to it without even bothering with the questions again. Clever hide! SL TFTC
Luckily we spotted the info board as we were cycling past otherwise we might have missed this.
Didn't take long to solve, and a short trip to the final.
Needed two looks to find it.

Quick park and find for us. Great little container! Log is getting pretty full so will need to be replaced soon. TFTC!
In the interests of saving petrol and getting some exercise I decided to park the car at Avalon Park and cycle to this one. I know...many of you will wonder why that is note-worthy. Trust me, where I'm concerned...it is. Also living in the Western Hills the prospect of cycling all the way from home was just a little too much. Once upon a time in a former life, bike riding was my only form of transport. Dem days is long gone! Anyway, the bike proved a useful prop as I pretended to be resting from my endeavours while solving the puzzle. My GPS put me in a rather un-salubrious area to begin with. (CITO event). But eventually I found the right spot and once again, pretended to be fixing my bike while I extracted and signed the log. Ingenious cache. Got one of those kicking around the house somewhere...
Tail wind on the way back...awesome!

With an hour to kill between finishing work this morning and a meeting with the boss, popped out for a little caching. Had most of the answers after quickly photographing the notice board one evening a while back when passing, so just had to pick up the last answer and confirm one other I had a question over. Plugging the update coords into the GPS, it was off for a quick find.

A bit of an odour from the ponds today so was glad that the puzzle and find were straight foward. A nice little offset multi. TFTC
On a caching day trip from Auckland with FMZ cleaning up some puzzles and the odd trad and multi Easy find. TFTC
Down from Auckland for the day with 10centcoin, on a mission to find some caches around the Wellington region. Enjoyed this puzzle and made a quick find at GZ. Nice hide. By this stage of the day, with just about 20 minutesof caching time left before we had to dash to the airport (aiming for 30 minutes before our flight that is), we were just trying to get as many finds in as possible! TFTC!!!
Thought the signboard was really nicely done. Pleasant area to explore and sneaky cache hide. TFTC
Logging visit by Kate Koala which was omitted owing to a logging error for an earlier cache.
Found during a pleasant walk along the Hutt River Trail: although I had had some difficulty with there being a mountain bike race further south, fortunately the course involved entering the trail just south of the bridge which in turn is south of the noticeboard.
Enjoyed doing this one, interesting information on the noticeboard and impressive watching and listening to the water racing down the weir. Wish I had had a movie camera with me! The only negative was the unpleasant stagnant water smell coming from near the pumping station.
The cache itself was straightforward, an easy multi and I have seen a similar hide before, but I was impressed by the way this cache had been created.
. Several trackables visited. TFTC

#2095.More haste, less speed (trying to get out of the rain) but we found it in the end (somewhere I'd already looked; doh). TFTC,
We pulled off the road here as this looked like and good place to stop and eat our lunch (in the car) while waiting for the rain to stop. We then discovered that the cache WP was just 50m or so away, so when the rain had stopped, we popped out to gather the info. When we got close tto GZ, the rain started again, so straight to hint. StreetWalker missed it on first pass. The rain was getting heavy by now, so it was a relief when he found it on second pass. Nicely hidden. Got back to the car just in time as the rain became torrential by now, so it was time to head for home.
