Found today while visiting the old scoria quarry that i used to play in back in the seventies, how it has changed fully fenced and recent excavator works and the cache is a right off as it was full of water and nothing salvagable in it but to any one visiting this place they should take the time to explore. At UTM 55 40673818/5807596. You will find a large hole where air was trapped during the volcanic activity. Care should be taken with children in this area as there are large drop off's from the excavation works. There are still a pair of perigin falcons there.

A suprisingly small mountain that really opens up the views. We enjoyed poking around here and had no trouble driving to within 100m of the cache. We tried to speculate on the original shape of the mountain prior to the quarry, perhaps a crater?. We enjoyed watching some falcons/hawks? putting on an airshow. We swapped a mondo for a shark, SL TFTC

It's not very often that we (or many other people) come up this way, so we made sure to go for this one while we were within coo-ee. No cold wind or rain made the walk/run in quite pleasant, and the cache was found in short order. Contents are a little bit damp but otherwise okay, not bad considering how long it's been since it was found. TFTC.

So this is what the middle of nowhere is like! On our way to Warrnambool for State Fire Brigade Championships and noticed this cache site on Google Map sitting in the middle of nowhere. On arrival in the vicinity we found a local contractor putting up fencing, so we walk in from the road. Quickly found cache, the contents of which were a bit damp. Dried out cache container and replaced contents.

A great location in an area not often visited by "outsiders". Thanks for bringing us here Ian.

Picked up Geocoin "I Spy" to find some Mystery Cache sites, a number of which have appeared in Bendigo recently.

Found by Mary & David at 1530. Dry stone walls, volcanic evidence, huge estates carved up for soldier settlers added to our interest in this area. Mary spent several years near here while her Dad was the school teacher at Darlington in the mid-50s. Sadly, the school was finally closed and relocated and the wonderful school house burnt down. Quite a few of the large properties like Mount Fyans would hold Open Days to aid local organisations like the CWA and Red Cross. A pair of falcons in residence in the quarry were quite agitated by our intrusion, and circled overhead screeching loudly. We logged our find hastily and left them in peace. Dropped off 'I Spy...' geocoin. Our thanks to VK3JAP.

On our way home from Warnambool via Ararat to do some cache maintenance we decided to drop in have a look at this one. The last km to gz was very slippery after the recent heavy rains but gz was thankfully still accessible by 2wd. We headed off to gz where our Magellan showed 1 metre and the Colorado 300 showed 4 metres on the listed co-ords , interesting discrepancies. This was certainly a nice quite spot but there was an icy wind blowing today so we quickly signed the log and headed back to the car
Thanks VK3-Ian for the cache and for a FTF so far from home
