Staying in Atiu for a couple of nights with Avoyager and it was time for me to complete the power trail side. There was no one else in the car park so it was just us and the rangers today. We scrambled up the hill to find multiple items matched the hint. Thankfully I eventually spotted the decent sized cache
While perusing the map, I spotted this mass of caches in a regional park, so was drawn here like a moth to a flame.
Mr rattll went for a jog to Kauri point and grabbed some caches out that way while mrs rattll headed out on the 'byte and a half' trail.
Only a few dnfs between us, and a couple of caches were on a closed section, because of tree felling, but otherwise a great day, and some enjoyable walks.
Thanks for putting all these caches here

Big cache! What better to do on a new walk than new caches! TFTC 30 January 2022 11:34 am 818
Visiting Atiu Creek Regional park for the first time today and found this cache on our way around the Oruawharo trail. Much fun was had making our way to the GZ. We knew what we were hoping to find and on our approach and spotted what we were after which hid the cache nicely. A good sized container too. Now we best make our way back to the path.
Was looking for somewhere to camp with lots of 'treasure hunting' as our toddler calls it. Discovered this area as a result, booked in from sat - Mon for easter weekend on easter Sunday after breakfast we set off to walk the full outer loop after getting a couple of caches yesterday and planning to do the middle strip via car later. Daylight savings saw us head off about 9am and we made it back to the campsite at 12 to make lunch. We walked an anticlockwise direction to see lots of sheep, horse riders and cyclists. What a well used area. This was the ninth cache of the day
Totally didn't get the hint, but sent the husband up to locate the cache while we tried to not look suspicious while muggles passed by. Thanks
Found two different logs here a relatively newish one and a old book. Signed the old book for nostalgic reasons I’m a bit old and tatty too.
This is a truly beautiful park with great views of the harbour (obviously not from GZ). Cache quickly located as well as an Auckland rock. TFTC
Find number 7140. On my way back from Paihia after dropping my daughter off so she could resume her Te Araroa walk. Decided to come out and pick up some of these in this park. Enjoyed the walk. The day was hot and there were good views. My phone battery was running low so I was not able to complete them all. Oh well I good excuse to come back.
A variation on this walk and a clamber up to it. Easily located.
Thank you for the placement.

As I approached I could see why this was a good high point and ideal pa siting. Headed up the bank hand over hand and checked lots of trees. Eventually spotted the host, and the LARGE cache. All good and replaced as hint/found.
Decided to do a clockwise loop around the trail, with some occasional backtracking (such as Reservoir Walkway) and managed to do most of the trails on offer. I didn't do the Kauri loop after a couple of early DNFs.
Todays entertainment was for me to head out to another of Auckland regions awesome Regional Parks. Tawharanui yesterday and Atiu Creek today, nice little couplet. Whilst I was out and about I decided to find a cache, or two, of fifty plus. My target range was Tufty's Byte and half series, and any collateral extras when passing. A good day to be on the trail, 21kms walked, glorious Spring-time sun came to play and some fantastic scenery. Nice and quiet in the park today, just a few ladies doing some orienteering/Rogaining and a small select few walkers/cyclists. Thanks to all COs for their caches today.

Spending the day in the park geocaching. Lovely sunny day. Was looking forward to exploring Solomons Pa as its such an interesting place and a geocache too!. All good here. Thanks St. Ouens and just Floundering.
Love large caches, this one was a pretty quick find for us! Little bit wet but tried to clean it up a bit. TFTC.
Today I decided to head north and west from where I was staying in Auckland City. Finding a few more caches in my spare time. I was accompanied by a work colleague and part time geocacher from Adelaide. The main event for us today was a wander around Atiu Creek Regional Park. It was a really nice walk in changing terrain with great views around almost every corner. Not one of the power trail caches but a good one to find. I headed up to GZ and looked around for a bit before I spotted the hint feature and there was the cache. TFTC, Biggles.
Found as a part of a previous group TanjackMüley, aka WanderingSparrow. Now I'm continuing on my own. TFTC
We like large caches, it's hard to miss them. Terrain might be harder as there was alot of rain last night. Tftc!
Completed the byte trail today and in the process found this cache too. Scrambled up to the top and cache eventually found

Found after a bit of bush bashing. Love the old big caches.

Dont take the scenic route through the forest.. easier to stay on the path and cut up
We were picking our way through mud and almost past it when I realised we had just gone by this cache and needed to backtrack. GAR stayed put while I made the find. Headed for what I thought was the right spot, which it turned out to be, but then had to get back to the track - so slippery I thought I'd end up with a wet/muddy butt, managed it ok in the end...just. Thanks for the hide Just Floundering.
Found on a caching adventure in the reserve with Supernanny.
The recent rain had made the land around GZ very muddy and slippery so our approach had to be very carefully planned.
My Coblet managed to find a way to the top after a few slippery close calls and was pleased to spot the cache quickly. What a great container, we love the larger ones.
The return to lower ground was slightly more treacherous but made possible with the aid of a few helpful trees. TFTC.

Out geocaching with TheCoblets....noticed this fairly old cache in the middle of Tufty's Power Trail...
Only problem was that the access looked a bit challenging!
MrCoblet was voted best contender for the ascent....and did us proud....finding and signing with no damage to life or limb....
Phew!

Day 2 Of Our Trip:_
Well this weekend was going to be a biggie.
Along with 3 work jobs we decided to see if we could knock off all the caches in Atiu Park.
First there was the any event in Papakura along with a bit of a bribe a puzzle which we had no idea as to solve.
All park caches were found by following Co Ords and hints given. Some caches were very wet and need maintenance done to them.
The park involved a lot of walking to tick off. SLTFTC

With Gap (of Fap and Gap)... When Gap signaled that he had work at Port Albert, we were immediately inquisitive. Where is that? After a brief explanation, we learned that this small settlement is west of Wellsford, on the Kaipara Harbour. Our eyes swept over the Okahukura Peninsula and we spotted the massive collection of caches at Aitu Creek Regional Park...
Aitu Creek Regional Park: Day 2 - We arrived shortly after 9AM. The remaining caches on our list formed two big loops of the Park. The first loop consisted of a few caches on the Oruawharo River Trail (Main gate to The Cottage and Courtyard House), the Kauri Point Walk, and the Clearfell Track (To the main carpark). The second loop included the Ti Tree Point Trail, the Oruawharo Trail (From Soloman's Bay), and the Reservoir Walk. We figured we'd have plenty of time to complete both circuits at a relaxed pace. The main challenge would come from the rain that continued to be present throughout the morning.
As noted yesterday, we had a little trouble with some coordinates (using our completely 'reliable' iPhones...). But all of the caches could be found as per the hint. Some just needed a few sweeps and good eyes to find (especially those that were listed as DNF prior to our visit). A few logbooks were damp or wet, though we managed to scrawl our handles with good pens... TFTC.

Dear Cache Owners,
I am a German guy who stays in New Zealand for eight months.
My English is not perfect, so please don't wonder if my log entries sound a bit strange. Thanks!
----------
A few days before I planned to visit Atiu Creek together with tramyard. The weather was nice, so we met in the morning and started our trip.
The area was great for hiking, at the end we walked more than 16 Kilometers and found 50 Caches and had only two DNFs. Most of them were easy to find, so we had a lot of fun together.
Nice big box here. Two TB#s out. I considered to put my TB's in, but than I saw the last found date.
Thanks for hiding!

Doing the binary numbers along the trail but this was a nice diversion. Quick find once I had scrambled up, nice big container here, cheers
Doing the byte and a half trail this avo on a wet blustery afternoon. Stopped to look for this one on the way past. A little bit further off the trail than expected, but soon found a nice sized cache. Pen not working too well in the rain, but managed a scratchy log sign. Left a TB for the next cacher along. TFTC
Cache soon found by me whilst being directed by DD as she could see the appropriate hint item! Great teamwork whilst enjoying the nearby caching trail. Many thanks
Travelling around the world with Dartmoor Deliverer celebrating her taking early retirement!
NB Dont forget our Devon UK Mega 2017 GC6JZNY this August in the beautiful East Devon area of our county. UK Megas are over one week full of events and geocaching - a wonderful way to enjoy our county!

We are in the area on holiday in a camper-van from our normal home in Auckland. We were here to collect the power trail surrounding this one but good to see this one with some more history of the area. Thanks for placing it here. I can see it has been here a long time so I hope it stays for many more years. TFTC
I decided to take advantage of the nice weather today and spend it collecting caches. I headed north up the west coast and eventually made my way to Atiu Creek Regional Park. Nice to hike around the trails, collecting caches at regular intervals. This was my first non-power-trail stop in the park grounds. I scrambled up the steep bank from the track to begin my search for this hide. After a bit of a bush bash, including contending with some gorse, I found the cache. Cache was all in order, though it was developed a tiny hole. Nice to see this hide still going strong after nearly nine years. Nice to find a good sized container amongst the micros today. Cheers for maintaining this one JF!
We had a grand day out with Ozwalker and found all the 37 caches that we had hoped to collect. Many thanks to Just Floundering for your contribution to our day of fun. Cache somewhat wet, unfortunately we had no replacement with us.
Thanks for the cache Just Floundering. Cache found while visiting Atiu Creek Regional Park with Oz in NZ on a geocaching trip. We tried to dry the inside of the cache container out as much as possible as it had become fairly wet.
did the big loop track with my sister in law, daughter 14 years and two sons 12 and 8. was reall impressed they lasted the whole loop. It became a competition to see who could get the most caches. stayed at one of the regional park baches for the weekend ( more like a mansion). great views, by chance met the cache owner.....great weekend
We had a great time through here and appreciate the chance to visit this area of historic significance. I went solo for this one, but no problems except for dropping my pen. With so many micros it was great to get a large cache so I dropped an item of swag (took nothing). Hint very helpful, thanks. Thanks for placing this geocache.
The main goal for Ninalila and I today was this trail and the Gannet Rock.
It was a good walk with beautiful views despite the mud and the showers during lunch and an other one before the end of the trail.
All the boxes were easy to find, well maintained and the coordinates were really precise.
We signed the logbook with our team name : lekiprokos
Thank you for the cache and the discovery

A very nice walk with fefe.adrien in the Atiu Creek regional park. We did all the loop track via the Oruawharo river trail and the Clear fell track. It took almost 4hrs, taking our time. Quite muddy at this time of the year but still possible.
Thanks to very precise coordinates and good hints, we found all of the boxes.

As I was doing a maintenance run on my power trail I decided to check on this one as well.
The log book is half used up and is dry. It has been wet in the past as the pages are soft but writable.

Decided we just had to get to this park while up north today. Found this cache while doing the series and thoroughly enjoyed our time here. TFTC.
Today I had the pleasure to walk around in the Atiu reserve and so I also cae along here. What a lovely place and so interesting because of the historical Pa site. I really enjoyed it and found the cache after a short search.
Thanks a lot for the cache and greetings from Germany.

A long weekend, a new year, the sun was shining and a plan was hatched to spend the day at Atiu Creek Regional Park walking & caching with okayness, snarsha & mojitoma. Ground was a bit wet & slippery and had a slight mishap getting to this one. Log was wet but have replaced the plastic bag which hopefully will stop it getting any worse. Our 16th for the day and 15th in the Park. Log signed individually or jointly as MOSK. TFTC
We really shouldn't have needed an excuse to come out to this beautiful part of the country - but your pa site cache certainly gave us one! A slippery climb to the cache rewarded us with.... gorse. We could see how this would have been the eprfect spot in thimes gone past, but there's not much left of the pa now! Just a few minutes walk further along the track did offer up some stuning views though.
The cache was a bit wet inside, and the log was quite sodden. We left it to dry for a few minutes, then Kakesnz pulled out a new plastic bag to hold the log, and we went on our way.
FOund with Kakesnz, Okayness and Mojitoma.

Was staying at Atiu Creek Regional Park with some other cachers. All logs signed as “Team SEAC”
A group of us from SEAC decided that it would be a good idea to go camping at Atiu Creek and grab the caches on offer up there. Most of the group were roughing it, but our family and another decided to take the more "established" dwelling, opting for the cottage at the park.
As it turned out, due to some rather unfriendly weather, everybody ended up in the cottage. But we were not going to let a little thing like the weather deter us, especially as we had found a fair few of the caches yesterday and didn't want to leave without reaching our objective of clearing out the place. Sooooo, once again during a break in the rain seven intrepid cachers and a mini cacher donned wet weather gear and headed out to trek the rest of the route and collect the remaining caches.
The thirteenth cache found for the day and signed as SEAC.
Onto the next one...

A group of caching friends decided to congregate for New Years celebrations on a camping trip to Atiu Creek Regional Park. It wasn’t until late in the day that someone happened to check the forecast and we realised there was a civil defence warning for high winds and rain in the north! For once the weather guy was right and between wind gusts and down pours all tenting was abandoned and we all retreated to the park cottage! As for caching, we weren’t going to let a little weather stop our caching! Between rain showers we set out to hunt down all the park caches, and we found all of them in great locations with wonderful views and easy to find hides. Thanks for placing these here, all caches were in good condition and logs were about ¾ full. TFTC!
We had abandoned our camp site for the comfort of the cottage last night as the weather had deteriorated prompting us to pull down the site.... so upon waking this morning the plan was hatched for a few of us to venture out in the rain and hunt down the remaining caches in the park.
This one I liked as it had a little more of a challenge to locate than the trail we were following, and if it had been found more often would have left a few TB's to enjoy the views... especially enjoyed the various methods of dismounting, to get back onto the trail....hehehe
This was the thirteenth for the day, and signed SEAC (South East Auckland Crew) to save space.

We arrived in the park on the 30 December for a few days camping, a day early for the event to celebrate the new year. As we were here we decided we couldn't leave without finding the caches in the park as well. The weather today was not pleasant, it was quite rainy and windy. All logs signed as SEAC (South East Auckland Crew) so as not to fill up the log. A fun few days was had with darthcacher1, purply, stik-a-crane, unclesamnz, newlynfam, keylev, craggar, laval, nztravellers, Auckland reindeer, chrisandmum. We were also joined on new years eve by rustynz and rebel98. Some of the group had cleverly booked the bach in the park - fortunately as late on 1 Jan we packed up the tents and moved to camp marae style in the bach garage due to most tents suffering damage from the wind.
Thanks for placing a cache here.
Thanks for placing a cache here.
We woke up again this morning- another morning of our camping trip- to wet, windy weather, and miserable looking skies. Last night we had to abandon our tent sites due to non-cooperative weather, and come and stay in the bach with those of our group who had decided against tenting it. Unfortunately, today looked as if we didn't have much chance of getting back to the tents!
Well, being geocachers, we knew exactly what to do with the less-than-favourable weather- we donned our jackets and hats, and when the rain eased off a little, set off to find the rest of the caches that we had not found yesterday.
This cache was fun, required a little extra effort to ascend to and descend from. It had been raining too, which added to the challenge, and more than once I was sure that I was going to end up splat back onto the path.... but we made it, and the cache was definitely worth the effort! One or two of our team had a good laugh at my expense though..... I may have been a little accident-prone on past caching expeditions! No injury this time though, thanks goodness!!!! All logs signed as SEAC (South East Auckland Crew- our group caching name) in order to save log space.

Its starting to get dark, so I use the torch to make my way to GZ. Its a bit of a scramble up, but the GPS takes me fairly close to the cache, and I find it quickly after.
I tipped out a little water, the log is damp, but I had no problems signing. The TB has been collected and I will send it on its way

This cache was found as a part of 'SJCGeocamp', a group of year 10 students (and teachers) on a Geocaching camp. Took a couple of minutes to locate the cache but it was nice to find a big container after a large number of micros today. We dropped off some TB's we collected on Rangito island.
Scrambled up the bank and thanks to the good clue, soon had the cache in hand. A favourite from me.
After meeting the CO on Thursday night and again yesterday, Stella and I decided to head back out with the mountain bikes to finish this wonderful trail.

out on a day doing the circle of Aitu, a day that had started with plenty of swearing when it was discovered the gps had managed to forget all the caches as a moment of protest over new "baby" smart phone getting all the attention... ) but in the end we figured out how to make both devices feel important by doing their bit on the hunt ( one finds one logs)
Bit of traction problems for MrsA heading up so Mr sent up to retrieve.. writing instrument u/s so "short high speed air passage" to the bottom of the hill for signing and then return.. all passengers and crew accounted for...
then as we headed off we had the most weird experience of our bush lives... down below in the puriri's we thought at first it was kids.. then we thought it was a cat meowing.. but then decided it could not be as it was a regular pattern.... finally we came to the conclusion it was a tui!! as the two meow's where preceded each time by the same tui sound... in perfect sync....!! i hear they are super mimics.. but beggars belief why the tui was hanging around the cat?

Found today with Sir & Lady Harveyjj.
Please forgive the generic log as I'm logging as & when I have access to wifi so details of individual caches have become hazy, however that does in no way detract from the time and effort you as CO have put into your hide - that's very much appreciated.
We're in New Zealand on an extended holiday and have loved every minute of it.
We're very grateful to you for placing caches which have led us to some of the most beautiful places on the planet.
The logs have been signed either in our individual caching names or as T2 (being Sir & Lady Harveyjj plus B.D.I's)
Cache returned safely from whence it was found.
Thank you and greetings from the UK

Please forgive the generic log as I'm logging as & when I have access to wifi so details of individual caches have become hazy, however that does in no way detract from the time and effort you as CO have put into your hide - that's very much appreciated.

Neat hide no problems here apart from getting back down.
Over from the UK for a holiday and thought we would try and add this to our collection of finds. What a great spot for a cache.
We have signed the log as T2 (Team 2 = B.D.I's & Sir and Lady Harveyjj)
Many thanks for the cache, brilliant series and bringing us here

This power trail was on my to-do list from the very beginning. Combining a walk with some caching was the inspiration behind this idea. The entire way is mostly easy to walk and follows mostly the perimeter fence of the old farm, thus showing the vast size of the real estate. During the walk you can enjoy the various views over the meadows, forests and the nearby estuary. Thanks for showing the former farm and now regional park with its beauty and history by providing this trail.
TB out.

Hadnt realised this one wasnt part of the power trail which would explain its good size and off trail experience. TFTC
Found as part of my Post Mega northen road trip. Really enjoyed a part of the country I hadn't seen before. Thanks to all those who have placed cacahes to encourage us southerners to come your way!
Had a ball making my way around this series. Nice walk and views, particularly out the end.

Sincere apologies for the very late log. Found on my NZ MEGA (Auckland 2013) trip with mtbikeroz, my Dad. We had a thoroughly enjoyable time travelling around Auckland and the North Island, going on some great walks and adventures and finding some great caches. Apologies again - if you have any queries or questions, please contact mtbikeroz direct via his profile. (all our finds are on the same date) Thanks.
After attending the mega event in albury, MtnLioness and I teamed up with FuzzyNZ (& co) to do this walk/hike in such a beautiful location. A thoroughly enjoyable walk, so thanks for all the caches in the area from everyone concerned. Also had a great chatting time with FuzzyNZ (& co) and got to know a bit about them and caching in NZ in general.
Another great stop on the trail. Time for a quick banana and some licorice for some energy! TFTC
Great walk in the Regional Park and a nice view from this spot. Out with Bald Ed, Tufty, Whitepaws9 and Skaga.
TFTC.

#736 This cache made a nice change from all the little caches we had been finding along the trail. Found this one easily and in good condition. I've taken the 2 TBs- will take them to MEGA and then move them along. TFTC!
Ah ha a cache that wasn't owned by Tufty. Nice sized cache. Here with WhitePaws9, Pidgey47 and Skaga whilst on a Tufty organised Mega tour. Thanks Tufty.
Been trying to catch up on way old caches for ages. TFTC's everyone your cache hides are certainly appreciated and Happy Caching to you ALL!!

Found with the Geo tour North group. What a wonderful walk this is through farmland and forests with superb views along the way, and a sunny day as well. Enjoyed the side trip to this one, and the co-ordinates were good, TFTC.
Cache #30 on the Geo Tour North. I climbed the hill with edvern and The Seignoid and was on top of it when The S made the find. I really like a nice big cache hidden like this. Soon had the log signed and we were on our way again. TFTC
[green] Out on the 3 day GeoTour North with ToursDirect, the prelude to the MEGA in Auckland. Fantastic tour, recommend it to anyone (too late!). I surprised only 4 people chose to come along. Today is Day 1. Log signed as GeoTour North, which includes me, Edvern, PageNZ, KittyKatch and GrimRaider.
See, now this just confuses me. The cache was no problem, two of us ran up the hill and found it easily enough. It's the name. Solomon's?? A maori named Solomon? Or a pa that belonged to a pakeha?
