I came out here seeking old caches with ones placed in 2001 as my goal. This one required a fair walk, especially that short sharp hill at the end.My car may have made it a lot closer to GZ but since the road was a little mushy and washed out in some places I decided to park it and walk, which did me good even if my asthma is playing up a bit.Only when I got to the top did I realize I had walked past a whole bunch of caches on the way up so I made an effort to get those on the way back. This one was pretty cool, it was all of the things I like about an old cache - adventure, a bit of exercise, nice views and a cool spot. Thanks For the Cache (TFTC).

The Adelaide Leap Day Mega and Canberra Geobash gave us a great excuse for a road trip. This trip has shown us so many new and interesting places as weve chased LGAs, oldies, challenges, interesting D/T combinations, rarer cache types and favourites.Meeting up with friends old and new along the way, we sometimes cached together and sometimes alone but always had a great time. For a few days we have based ourselves in Avoca to explore the goldfields area, attend some events, climb some hills, visit out of the way places and learn some history. This cache is what drew us to the summit even though it meant a steep hike in the heat today. Thanks to the CO for placing and maintaining this cache and adding to our enjoyment.

Very happy to find and log another old cache, and fortunate to drive pretty close to it. The cache was a bit damp but we had the means to give it a good clean out. After finishing the Ballarat Geotour we decided to tackle some caches around Mt Beckworth. We didn't know how far up we'd get, or how many caches we could get to but we were quite pleased with ourselves in the end.I spent the Australia Day long weekend in and around Ballarat with 1TOOLMAN and stainless steel rat to do the geotour. We found them all plus most other caches from our short list of around 70 caches. Thanks wozzle68

With all the GeoTour now done everything was a bonus from now on so the pressure was off and we just enjoyed the day from now on.Sometime ago myself and gooseandegg had looked at the idea of doing one of the GeoTours in Australia but due to finders losing the attributes and maybe even the souvenir I wasn't about to go out of my way to search out a GeoTour, upon hearing that finders would retain the attributes and souvenir for the Ballarat GeoTour this changed things and plans were made to head specially to the Ballarat area.We flew out of Hobart on Thursday night after work and after a night staying near the airport we were picked up early by honorary Tasmanian 1Toolman, we spent the next two days searching out all the GeoTour and some choice old or special geocache in and around Ballarat, on Sunday morning we just had time to call at GemmaSistemas event out at Miners Rest before turning tail and dashing for the airport to get on my first ever Rex flight back to Hobart, even landing early at 1307.Found on 27/01/2024 at 14:23:00 thanks to wozzle68 for placing this cache for me to find. Day 2 of our adventure to Ballarat with Peppa and Beardman75 chasing the geotour. We have travelled well out of town and are now sidetracked and chasing challenges. We made the final push up to the summit while it was trying to rain. After checking out the big tree we moved over to the rocky area and spread out to search. Peppa yelled out the golden words and he reached in to retrieve.Tftc wozzle68Find #5253

A lovely rock jumble for this hide had me worried but i soon found the cache. The log is a little damp but still functional. I left it out of its baggie in the hope it might dry better. I enjoyed finding this one as part of my caching fun in the Ballarat area. Unless otherwise mentioned above, I found the coordinates to be accurate, the cache in good condition and the log dry and with plenty of room to sign I am logging this one on Sunday 26 Nov 2023 at 5:14 pm and the weather is Broken Clouds 15C 55% 6 m/s . Thanks for placing this cache for the rest of us to enjoy wozzle68.*Found with [Geooh GO](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobiltal.geoohGO)*

I had come out to [Mount Beckworth](https://www.parks.vic.gov.au/places-to-see/parks/mount-beckworth-scenic-reserve) today with the main focus on trying to find [The_Tritonz's](https://www.geocaching.com/p/?guid=f422aa64-9d77-4d30-bbca-5864235c03b7&wid=5a3d9ad7-d257-4233-a8a6-fb4cc5a3ef93&ds=2) [Searched High and Low Challenge (GC7KE6Y)](https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC7KE6Y), however when I was planning my trip out here today and saw that this **2001 cache** was also here, I quickly added it to the must find list.**2001 caches** are so rare, and if I ever get a chance to try and find one I always try everything I can to stop and search for them. After having driven into the park I quickly stopped and continued on foot. Although the geomobile has 4WD, the track had some large ruts and I didn't have the experience or equipment to try and do this drive. So I did the whole hike up the mountain on foot, which didn't bother me any as the weather was absolutely perfect today, nice and warm. I could not have asked for a better day to go caching. However, by the time I made it up the mountain, especially the final few hundred meters, I was exhausted. So I made my way over to the vicinity of GZ and sat on a boulder catching my breathe. After I rehydrated and rested up, I then started my search. There appeared to be lots of nooks and crannies all around GZ.This one definitely took awhile of searching and only through the process of elimination was I able to finally home in on the correct beacon and eventually I was able to get the right angle to spot the cache. It was really tucked away, and was a bit of a stretch, but I was just able to retrieve it. I was immediately overwhelmed with joy finding this one! It is always fun to find a cache, but it is truely such an amazing feeling to be able to find a cache that is 20+ years old and just get an insight into what caching was like back then. The location alone would have earned this cache a favourite point from me, but keeping a cache alive for 20+ years definitely does! I am unfortunately all out of favourite points and am on a bit of a backlog when it comes to favourite points, but when I earn another one I will be sure to come back and give this cache a well deserved one!I left my favourite point pathtag for the [CO](https://www.geocaching.com/p/?guid=044f7883-6e4b-4763-a1f4-7efb77697809&wid=479ea186-c071-4706-95d8-5e6f7366afbb&ds=2) or next finder to have. A huge thanks goes to Wanderer's and friends for originally hiding this one and to [wozzle68](https://www.geocaching.com/p/?guid=044f7883-6e4b-4763-a1f4-7efb77697809&wid=479ea186-c071-4706-95d8-5e6f7366afbb&ds=2) for maintaining this cache for all these years! It was amazing to find this relic of caching history. TFTC.**Cache Maintenance Status**The cache container was in good shape and all the contents were nice and dry. The logbbok was abit aged, but was still clean and dry with plenty of room for future cache finders to sign.

A beautiful walk to the top of this Mount.
At GZ, we stopped to read some signs and admire the lollipop tree, before heading over to find this one.
At GZ, it was just a matter of searching methodically, until we had the hide in our hands and then the log signed. beautiful views all around us, the wind in the trees and a perfect temperature for walking.
Thank you for maintaining and keeping this old Hide alive
Thanks wozzle68

While out hunting down the challenge caches i made my way to this cache Rock hopping along the way. I had an awesome morning exploring this area.

Found on our first ever trip up Mt Beckworth on a sunny and blustery Sunday afternoon. Quite the scramble up, but worth it for the great views and geology. All good at GZ. Log signed and replaced as found. Log quite damp, but still managed to log out visit. Thanks for the cache - what views!

Glad to have found this old timer here today.

Thankfully the handy video and the starting suggestion gave us the confidence to have a look at this hide here today.

Naturally we ignored the keep out sign at the gate. In my world if the gates open, come on in…. We just hoped the gate was still open when we got back down. Ha.

We took it really slow and made it to the top without any rock and roll at all. Easy peasy.

The butterflies were almost out numbered by the dragonflies. They put on a real show.

The cache was found and the view admired.

We took it slow on the way out and yes the gate was still open.
Very proud of our efforts. Not normally something we would attempt but so glad today we did.

I spent the bulk of today wandering around Mt Beckworth, getting some exercise ahead of this weekend's Australasian Rogaine Champs near Avoca. Apart from being in cloud, there was very little rain, however it was very wet underfoot. Cache easily found. TFTC.

A nice golden oldie cache in a superb location Razz.
Here with dalerious and we completed almost all of the Mt Beckworth caches; all but one mystery and one dnf trad.
Thank you wozzle68 for looking after this gem for us and thank you Wanderer's and friends for putting the cache out all those years ago.

Not sure why I opened this app when I got to the top on a lovely hike, but couldn't believe there was actually a cache here. Unless specifically Geocaching, I usually forget. Thank you very much

Found day 3 of a somewhat impromptu solo caching and camping trip to Victoria from Adelaide.

I had planned to spend a week travelling, caching and camping along the Great Ocean Road, but my travelling companion had to postpone it due to other commitments. I was still keen to go away somewhere this week as well, so decided to head to the western part of the state on my own.

I created a bit of a 'menu' of specific caches of interest in the broad area that I might be in before I left home and just pottered along fairly casually, taking in the sights and grabbing what I could along the way.

I wasn't actually planning to visit this area, but I somehow managed to end up here and it was a good place to camp with what looked like some interesting walks and caches to find.

This morning I walked up to the summit and back from Manna Gums, finding this cache along the way. The cache had numerous entries by muggles in the logbook, but it all seemed OK.

Thanks Wanderer's and friends for the cache.

Awesome! Found it on a blustery day. Geo kids loved the hunt and came up with the goods in no time.
Travel bugs are still in there. We didn’t take them as we don’t geocache often enough.
TFTC. It was fantastic to actually get to the ‘lollipop tree’ finally ( and the summit)

With only the sedan today we ended up parking 1.27km to the south and having an enjoyable stroll up to the cache, grabbing a few others along the way. This was our goal and once we caught our breath back, we started the search. It was relatively quick to locate but took a while longer to retrieve - long arms really helped. Dropped in the Knight TB for the next finder to take on a quest. All up, 50 minutes return trip and a neat older hide to add to the matrix. TFTC

We're camped at Manna Gums for just one night so decided to come out for a 4WD adventure to see how many of the caches nearby by we can reach. It was a bit of fun coming up the steep side of the track from Manna Gums but eventually we reached the more well maintained section and headed along the track to the top of the mountain. This old cache was our primary target and despite the deserted campsite nearby, we managed to find it without attracting any muggle attention.

Thanks for find #2667

Up here this is a cool location, the cache is sadly not the original but still took some time
To locate and also get out of its hidey hole. Cache and contents are all good

Today I made my way from Adelaide to Ballarat via a few caches and found myself in Mount Beckworth and a few other places, also making it a goal to complete majority of Ballarat geotour.
Odd being back in Victoria after over a year but it’s good to be back.

Thanks for the cache

On a caching and camping trip with day1976, he put together the list of caches, and I worked out we could camp near Mt Beckworth.
We arrived and found a good spot away from the other noisy campers, and set up, then headed back out to do some caching before getting dinner done.
Next morning we had a hot pancake each and packed up camp, then set off on our morning hike up Mt Beckworth.
It was a steep and slippery hike, we saw a stolen car dumped in a ditch on the way up, and bullants along the track.
Great view at the top, and we split up to find the cache, spotting it at the same time from different angles. I was the closest so got to awkwardly lean in to grab it.

A great day with Shumba7 enjoying all the Beckworth Beckons series has to offer. Lots of smiles collected and enjoyed. Thanks Wozzle68 for more fun times.

All the tracks seem to be shut now so parked as close as possible ( in the pines off Couts Rd) and walked the rest.

TFTC. Quick find with Algae today and a day exploring the Mount Beckworth area. Nice day to be out and about not too hot and not too cold. A great day with a couple of hikes and driving around the area.
This one involved us driving around and around to get too. Algae was wanting to show off his 4x4 driving skills. But we couldn’t get close enough so it was off walking.

Chook and Micaparamedic donned their backpacks and enjoyed a lovely afternoon hiking up, down and around the southern slopes of Mount Beckworth today.

Finally made it up to the legendary lollipop tree after all these years of viewing this landmark from all the surrounding ranges!!

Cache was found strewn out in the open but nothing was damaged, so we put it all back together and made sure it was placed back and hidden securely. Picked up a trackable that was in the cache. Thank you Wanderer's for this cache, and also to wozzle68 for helping to keep this golden oldie going. We really appreciate being able to find these older 2001 caches.

What a great day for a walk/hike around mount Beckworth, Not too hot and not too cold. I was especially grateful for not too much sun because I stupidly left my hat at home today. We originally were going to do this Thursday last week but 35 degrees walking around mount Beckworth didn't have that much appeal.
AusFoox; was a bit of track when hunting for this one and found some new born kitten instead. when we followed the GPS the cache was soon foound and we were able too sign our names in the log.

Thank you Wanderers for the hide and woozzle68 for keeping it alive

It was a Goldilocks day to hike up and around the picturesque Mount Beckworth with SimsFamily to work through the challenge caches.
Interesting spot to plant a lone pine.
While searching for the hide I came across a family of new born kittens after Mum flew off, making my heart skip a beat.
Log signed and replaced as found.

Thanks for the Cache Wander’s and Friends

Found with Cybergram V on Leap Day. Big Grin

Mum and I decided to take on Project-GC and its badge-gen add-ons for leap day. Cool
Picking the eyes out of Mt Beckworth really helped us on our quest. Twisted

This cache is on so many of my lists that finding it is going to free up a good chunk of my devices' memory. Wink
I couldnt think of a better name for this cache at this location. It was calling out to me to from its hide to find it. Razz

dalerious and I both required this cache for our Jasmer challenge, plus we needed to find a regular sized cache for the leap day badge add-on challenge, and we are feeling on top of the world now that our names have been added to the log.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this historical cache for our enjoyment and entertainment

I went up the mountain today and found this sturdy cache. The cache was in excellent condition, the sun was out and we met some horse riders who came to the top while we were there. They let me ride on one of the four horses named Zeena. Thanks for the cache!

A visit to Mt Beckworth has consistently been on the cards since I was last here back in 2016. I still had the series to finish, plus there are some tempting new challenging challenges to be found. Today the planets finally lined up and together with Jacko, A and Anikano we made a day of it enjoying this great bushland.

While Jacko nudged his way up the hill with the Triton I walked up to GZ.
Hey, we're at the summit now! That's one giant lollipop nearby - exactly 101 years old.
A great spot with great views, and a nice surprise to find such an old cache here.
Thanks for keeping this one going, Wozzle - a FP from me.

What is going on here? A 2001 cache? From the Wozzler? Has he really claimed this territory that long ago? I thought you were a newer cacher!

The last hill to the top was an absolute doozy. Blokes here said tracks getting worse and worse every few months. Took a few goes but was up to the top. Good thing I didn't winch off lollypop tree, don't know how strong it is after so many years planted!

Great location Woz. A fave from me.

We had arrived in this very beautiful area yesterday evening, and by the end of a thoroughly enjoyable late afternoon/early evening geocaching hike we had found 11 of the caches in the area. We then spent last night at Manna Gums campsite. This morning we set off on foot for what our GPS recorded as having been a 7 hour, 13 kilometre geocaching hike, with a total ascent of 585 meters and a total descent of 561 meters. After returning to our waiting hired cache-mobile we then drove on to find the rest of the caches in the area. We then spent a second night at Manna Gums campsite before leaving the Reserve, by which time the Mount Beckworth Scenic Reserve had become one of our all time favourite places we have visited in Australia - plus of course we left this geocaching playground with a full house of smilies! - not to mention the thrill of a gorgeous little Echidna who late in the day walked right up to me and then sat down between my feet - I felt so privileged! This was our sixth cache to search for on this mornings geocaching hike from the Manna Gums campsite. Once in the Ground Zero area we began our search and then soon found this lovely golden oldie cache. We signed the log book and then replaced as found but not before carrying out a Trackable Exchange, picking up the Beckhausen Family Travel Bug and dropping off the EH! CANADA Travel Bug. Thanks so much for the cache and a favourite point for having bought us to this beautiful Scenic Reserve and for keeping this cache in the game. Greetings from Zimbabwe

TFTC. WE had come to this section of Mount Beckworth to collect as many caches as we could for the 400 with a twist challenge. 4th being our best caching day. Parked the vehicle just below Cal’s Cool cache as the track was looking a bit to rough for the Suzuki . The walk would do me good.
One of the reasons for being here was to get another month on the Ausmer grid. The view here are spectacular and worth the walk in.

After finding a secret cave we figured we were close enough to the summit that we might as well continue on up. Kudos to our traveling companions in joining us all the way.

Another RDO and another day of caching planned for today. Na'wal and myself had discussed plans and we decided to target Mount Beckworth, plus a few extra on the way. Leaving home in the rain, we hoped it wasn't going to hang around all day. Luckily it had cleared by the time we were approaching the outskirts of Ballarat. We had an awesome day, which included some tree climbing, kayaking. hiking and even some spelunking !! An exhausting , but very rewarding day.

Now we are at the top, we can admire this magnificent tree. Cache took a while to find, so many places for snakes to hide !! TFTC wozzle68 Big Grin

Another adventure day was planned with DAB to enjoy some time out in Ballarat and Mt. Beckworth. We were planning a day full of activities so the geo wheels was packed full of things, drinks and food. It was a great day out even with threatening rain which thankfully all came in the early morning before we left. We were being very wary of snakes today as I saw one yesterday. We were glad we had the 4WD drive to get us towards to top of the mountain. There was one section were slipped on a little before using some native tools. We never did make it to the top with some nasty terrain. We parked the car and walked in for the rest of these caches.

We spotted what seemed to be a big brown snake sticking its head out of a hole as we walked up to this one. Thankfully we were a bit heavy footed and we disappeared quickly. The cache was a little tough to find, so many spots to check. I didn't realise this one was such an old cache. Finally found it nicely tucked away. We stopped for some lunch up here before moving on.

**Thanks to Wanderer's and friends for hiding this cache for us to find and enjoy**

Find #9619

I had been looking forward to today and a trip to Ballarat for a while. It had been some time since I had visited, so today was the day. Up at 6.30am and was out the door by 6:45. I started the caching day at Mount Beckworth Scenic reserve and along with a couple of events, finished the day off with a couple of night caches. It was so much colder here, compared to the balmy 7 degrees at home when I left.

Its always nice to find older caches with a more historical importance. 2001 caches are slowly disappearing, so its nice to see this one still going strong, despite the muggle entries, all is good here. Great location too.

Many thanks to Wanderer's and friends for the cache. TNLN.

*17/3/18, Found @ 2:31 pm, Find # 7688.*

While at Mount Beckworth on a challenge cache finding mission I thought I might as well find a few of these trads as well.
I had to walk passed this one from where I was to get back to the car.
Once in the GZ area, I did walk in circles for a little bit before the tell tale signs of a cache hide were noticed, the cache was then found.
I didn't realise at the time that this one is such an oldie.

**Thanks to wozzle68 for placing this cache.**

After only recently relocating to Victoria, the old bug is back and old caches are something I like to find. I was on a bit of a mission this afternoon to find caches hidden in 2001, well 5 actually to add to the 5 I already have.

I shouldn't had drove as far as I did, but I did drive within 385 metres from GZ before the track became a stone rutted mess and I didn't want to chance the Patrol any further due to the fact I was solo. I walked the remaining up the steep hill and headed straight to GZ. Knowing where these hides are usually on these hilltops, I started my search. Probably took me a bit longer than necessary but in the ned the ammo tin was located and my name was added.

For some reason I headed straight down to the western side and took some photos of the fields and got my bearings a little wrong, but I soon corrected and was on my way back to my mobile, but I did get some photos of the Lollipop tree and the beautiful scenery before getting the hell out of there to get to the next one.

Thanks to the Wanderers and Friends

A cool spot for a cache find with friends, including the CO himself! Smile

2/5/17 - A great spot that now has a smiley on the map Smile This is one of many caches we targeted and found today.

Oh my goodness, yet another day out with the hilarious boys - Wozzle68 and Snap Happy, once again the giggles were non-stop. Big Grin [^] I think we all got an education SurprisedWinkRazz. We cached in Mt Beckworth where Pete got to show off his spectacular 4WD skills, and also cached in various spots all the way to Maryborough where we attended a dinner event.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've had a big, but generally a relaxing couple of weeks away in Victoria from SA.

Ballarat, Border track, Pinnaroo, Bendigo, Wedderburn, Swan Hill, Maryborough, Mt Beckworth and Mt Gambier are just a few of the spots I have visited during my caching trip. There was an emergency room visit, loads of driving, stacks of laughter, amazing food, lots of new learnings (oh my goodness!!), and a wonderful mix of fabulous people.

I am loving this country and getting out and about in it! Smile

Thanks for the cache wozzle68! Smile

Quick arvo ride on the motorbike from Ballarat. Struggled up the hill a bit but made it to the top! Great views.

We had hoped to make a bit of time and grab a few caches around Mt Beckworth to grab some older caches plus fill in a find in another region so headed up. The big tree is still down but looks possible to get around.
Being a 2001 cache this was high on the list to collect with the added bonus of great views from the top. The GPSr took a little to settle and then we spotted the camo. Great to make the find. We completed the signing for duties and re hid. TFTC.

My goodness me, this was quite the adventure this afternoon. The cache was found a little exposed so once the log was signed, we covered it up a little better but the keen eye will still spot it. Amazing tree, thanks for bringing us here wozzle68.

The kids were playing footy at Waubra this afternoon so with a little time to spare we decided to detour via the back of Bekworth to see the way in for a different cache After finding it with a little time to spare we made our way up the hill to the top (very spur of the moment)! In doing this we hadn't researched the cache so didn't know the road was closed over winter. Rest assured we didn't damage the road or churn it up. Hubby was so exited to make the top as he had attempted this about 20 years ago with a mate and hadn't been back since. An easy finds, some pics (adding), and some breathtaking views left us very happy. Down we went arriving just in time for footy! We will be back to tackle the other caches we still have here another time. Many thanks for a great cache - a fav from me Smile
