Staying at Cardwell for a couple of nights, exploring the area today.
No luck here today, it looks like the area has been weed sprayed and cleaned up. We had a good rummage but couldn’t find a cache.

Thank you Ballbag&Bumblebee for placing this cache. I am now on the way back home after having successfully conquered the highest mountain in Queensland, Mt Bartle Frere. Along the drive I of course had to stop to get a few more caches, so thanks a lot for the welcome break.
Not so hard after all. I expected a more in theme container for this type of area, but fortunately the white shine stood out after a few turns.

Could not find any of those plants let alone their roots, will save this one for our grey nomad tour. HNB
Go to the pub in Cardwell and watch the TV slideshow with the cyclone destruction. Crazy!

Drove down to Cardwell for a Saturday morning run and picked off this and the AdLab today.
Sandyofthesea and I took off from Perth at the start of April to travel more of Australia using geocaching as a guide to see the sights. How good is this country!!
Ballbag&Bumblebee, I found Historic Cardwell today. Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache.

Took us 2 attempts to find this cache, worth the drive though, Cardwell is such a beautiful place

Once the gps settled to 1 meter it was found. Epson ets the credit. Tftcsl nice sign
I moved quite a few rocks, where my GPS took me, and checked around the sign, but a DNF.
Stopped on a lovely day out with my partners best friend. Who had never been on a hunt before. Beginners luck as she was the one to find for us. No pen unfortunately to log. TFTF
We heading north in our van. Staying at Cardwell for a few days.. grabbed this smile while we where driving around sight seeing..
We were passing through and had to stop for this one. We felt lucky because we spotted it almost immediately - not our typical luck for these kinds of hides. TFTC
On our drive north today to Mission Beach, we decided to stop at the entrance to Cardwell and at least get a photo of the beautiful sign there. We then had a quick look to notice there was a Geocache here, so with the compass out we soon had this one in hand.
A beautiful part of the world, we then headed into Cardwell and stopped for a great lunch. It’s a beautiful part of the world. The rain cleared to give us some great views across the Coral Sea.
Thanks Ballbag&Bumblebee

I made it to Townsville. 18 days on my bicycle cycling over 1850km from Toowoomba.
After catching up with friends and finding a few caches I am now heading North to Cairns.
I nice long climb up the range to get to the lookout in the rain.
It took me a while of wading through the river before finding the cache.
Now to continue North on the bike.
Thanks for the adventures and cache.

Day 11 of our trek to the Townsville Mega and back with fitzy_1965 and two of my geo-kids Death_killer & my_name_jeff_1.
Today is our last day in Townsville. We cleaned up as many of the caches we wanted to do before leaving tomorrow. This included heading a bit further North to grab a couple more counties. A lot of driving but a satisfying day. We signed some challenges, did a bit of fishing, and collected a number of adventure labs along the way.
All caches were found quickly and easily unless otherwise mentioned. Thanks to all the CO’s.

27,806. Found with minniek during our Grand Townsville Trek up to CacheQLD's Townsville Mega Event over Easter.
Day 11 of our Townsville Trek, and we managed quite a few caches around Townsville today as well as a trip north to grab a few additional Counties, then back to Townsville for more caching. Despite the large number of roadworks going on we made good time. This cache was a nice cache to find. Quick find at GZ by me ! Signed the log, replaced the cache, then continued along to the next cache on our list.
Thanks Ballbag&Bumblebee !! That was a bit of fun !

Good coords and hint led to a quick find here today. Log sheet has a little room but full enough to be replaced.
Up to Townsville with GreyHams, timed well with a Mega and Maze and a lot of quality caching in the area to keep anyone busy for longer than the time we had! Counties were our primary focus, up to Cardwell and south of Mackay... a side trip out towards charters, we covered some distance in the 5 days away but saw so much.
Day 1 saw us arrive late in the day after a stop off in cairns, out towards Charters was a lovely drive with its drier scenery before back into the mega to catch up with friends and a Trivia night.
Day 2 was our Mega and Maze day. Lots of great quality and fun ALs on site, friendly people and a visit from the Mega's Easter Bunny for my chocolate egg! Even managed a refreshing squirt from a hose on one AL much to the amusement of those watching!!! Loved the escape room experience and then off north towards Cardwell for a little caching through more iconic north Queensland scenery.
Day 3 saw us walking the length of the strand, lovely historic area, lots of caching and great scenery to enjoy. A good solid morning in the area before boarding the ferry to Palm island, after the warm walk of the morning it was great to sit in the cold aircon with lunch, a cold drink and relax out on the water.
The visit to Palm Island was a beautiful location and very pleased to have had the opportunity to experience it. A calm relaxed trip across was a far contrast to the busy and rough trip back. Into the waves led to a wild and stomach churning bounce of the ferry as it made its journey back to Townsville, yet up top in the open wind and spray it was a wild and fun time!
Day 4 saw us driving south of Mackay for a letterbox trail. More iconic Queensland scenery as we drove, love all the cane fields, lush green and huge mountain ranges. The letter box trail was worth the drive, a lovely area and well put together and we even passed other Canberra teams along the road! Mackay offered lovely beach scenery, a step back into my childhood and a little adventure... plan 'F' payed off as it often does. The little town of Calen came to our rescue were the people were friendly and and the facilities and hotel worthy of stopping.
Day 5 and our last, the journey back towards Townsville with a few stops as we cached along, the heat kicked up a notch but the cars aircon matched it well! Up to Castle Hill and then our time was done and back to the airport and the trip home... Many thanks to the CO's for your caches that led us on another very enjoyable trip.

Day eight of the big Brisbane to Townsville trip for me. After seven days on the road getting up here and then driving about via many exciting geocaches, it is the day of the [Mega Event](https://coord.info/GC9BVWD)! This morning my travelling party left to drive home, and I have 24 hours on my own. Little did I know how massive the day would turn out to be.
It had an early start, a lot of hanging about the Mega HQ, a drive around looking for geocaches with Big Matt, and a night event. It had been a huge day! But soon after that event, at around 21:30 Matt mooted a plan to me. He had noticed neither of us had been to Cardwell to find a geocache in this specific LGA. And it's *only* 1.5 hours drive. And we could seemingly go tonight.
Well, it was bloody hard to disagree. So perhaps this plan was foolish. Perhaps it was folly. But it was happening. We bid farewell to the party-goers at the Mega and jumped in the car for a night time roadtrip.
There is no way I would have done this trip alone. I doubt he would have either, as we were both reasonably tired. But we chatted a bunch and enjoyed cruising through North Queensland on yet another silly adventure. We also had word there was at least one other car of geocachers out here doing the same - but they were ahead of us!
A shower of rain on the way, but we pulled up after an uneventful drive by the side of the road. A seemingly arbitrary location, a seemingly arbitrary geocache on the map. But we're excited. By my phone torch and Matt's headlamp, we start looking. Our first instinct was the sign, but alas it was out in the rocks.
So silly to drive for three hours over midnight to find a little bottle hidden in some rocks beside the road. There's no use explaining this to a non-geocacher. At 23:37 the logbook was signed and replaced as found. With that, time to head back south. Thanks for this geocache and ridiculous adventure, Ballbag&Bumblebee

This cache was found today and brings our overall cache find tally to 11116.
This was a bit of a folly after finishing the trivia event in Townsville at 9:30pm Captain Terror and I thought we might just go for a drive to tick off a few LGA’s. In the full moon light at near midnight we made a fairly quick find.
Thanks Ballbag&Bumblebee for the cache.

Day 8 of the road trip to Townsville to with LuckyL10n and today it was a drive from Townsville out to Charters Towers.
A quieter day than others on the trip, but that was due to the different types. Puzzles, WIG's and Multi's were the order of the day. A couple of trads of course as went right past them....and we couldn't leave them could we?
Left CT around 2.30 and head for Cardwell to help fill in a few counties up towards Carins and the Tablelands. All up, another great day.
Thanks to all the CO's for the caches....they all help to make the trip a good time.

#13939 - 6:27:00 PM; Day eight of the Townsville Mega adventure with Sol de lune. Made it through to Townsville last night and headed out to Charters Towers to try our hand at the variety of cache types in the area today. Managed 30 finds for the day on the way to and from and around the town in Charters Towers, with one DNF. Cache types we found included Adventure Labs, Letterbox Hybrids, Trads, Multis, Unknown (Puzzle), Wherigos, a virtual and an earthcache. After wrapping up in Charters Towers we headed north hoping to reach Cardwell by dark. Collected five caches along the way including this one. Cache was in good order and signed L.L10n & Sdl or vice versa. Last stop for the day and right on dusk, but Sdl spotted it without too much trouble. TFTC Ballbag&Bumblebee
Another quick stop on the way from Cairns to Townsville
Thank you for the cache
---------------------------------------------------------------
This cache was found as part of a trip with GoosenEgg and Stainless Steel Rat to Far North Queensland for the Townsville Mega. The trip started in Cairns and ended in Mackay, and allowed us to find some ripper caches inbetween.
We managed to complete some of the Breaking Bad cache series until we driven back to the car due to the heat, and the Saint and most of the book series. There were some good variety in both these series which kept them interesting.
One of the highlights (although a low light when removing the mud) was the walk on the salt flats outside Townsville to get the challenge caches
Another highlight was Magnetic island, where other than some great views, we managed to spot two koala's in the wild.
Thank you for placing and maintaining this cache that was part of our trip

The goose had already found this one on as trip in the past with his family so me and budgie looked for this one and it was spotted by him in a few minutes.Nice old cache too!
This was my first Mega trip in a while now, I had planned to go to the last one in Wangaratta but concerns about COVID made me pull out at the last minute. For this one it was a trip with BudgieTas and GooseandEgg landing in Cairns on the Sunday where we collected a few caches in the dark before driving down to Townsville on the Monday collecting a select few caches along our very indirect route.
While in the Townsville we made the best of our time collecting a few series of caches and searching for some of the older caches on offer, some with lots of favourite points or something we thought maybe a bit different, along with all that we got to go to all the Mega events and meet up with cachers old and new, spending Thursday with Greg going round Magnetic Island and a bit of time with the Davinells who went out of their way to welcome the Tasmanians to Queensland.
All to soon it came to an end and we drove down to Mackay on the Monday again collecting caches along the way before flying home on the Tuesday Morning.
Thanks for the warm (sometimes too hot) welcome Queensland until next time!
Thanks for the cache.

Day 14 of our trip, and Fangsoki and I left the beauty and humidity of Mission Beach to make our way to Townsville, the long way of course!
Our first stop along the way was for this cache, which Fangsoki thought we got on the way up - nope that was the lookout cache further on from here.
We pulled in and began our search. I’d have expected somewhere behind the sign. Turns out I found it somewhere else instead.
Thanks for the cache Ballbag&Bumblebee.

Thursday. Looks like the rest of the historic bits need to be built yet, but we found what we were looking for toot sweet and had the log signed and replaced. Easy to spot as the cache was sitting in amongst the river of rocks. A cacher would recognise it as a cache at first sight.
This was the 9th of 14 caches found on this outing.

We are booked into Cardwell for a few nights, and have had a lovely time looking around the area. Went on a forest drive this morning and saw lots of great things-waterfalls, freshwater swimming pools along pristine rivers, a huge goanna, large black and blue butterflies (Ulysses?) and some great views across to Hinchinbrook Island. Topped it off with a picnic on the foreshore with food from the local bakery.
This one had us perplexed when we read the hint, but as we walked closer to GZ we realised it was exactly right!

Found as I meander my way from Adelaide to Cairns.
With no real travel plan and three weeks to get there before I meet up with friends, there has been plenty of opportunity for sightseeing and finding a few selected caches along the way.

With overseas travel currently out of the question and state border closures still a lurking as possibilities, my family and some close friends decided that travelling to North Queensland was our best option for a Christmas/New Year escape.
Our stop for the night was Cardwell, and with a fine day dawning, I headed off to pick up this cache while the rest of the family slept in. I had hoped to call in to this cache on the drive into town yesterday but heavy rain put paid to that idea. No precipitation this morning and a short search of the area revealed the cache. TFTC

Nice easy find, esp. with the hint. Handy little parking spot right off the highway

Found with orth71 on a trip from Townsville to Cairns for a week of caching.
Have driven past this sign probably 100 times over the years and never noticed it before.
Love this area.

After walking around looking for a nano something, I read a few logs and then the hint to discover that the container is small and not nano! So found the container, dropped off Frankenstein, logged my name and off we go!
This could have easily taken ages to find, but got lucky looking in the first spot I tried. Stealth definitely needed during the day - but was able to duck behind the sign to leave my stamp in the log. A good hide to try on the journey from Townsville to Cairns without losing any detour time. TFTC
