Wow, what a great spot, especially on a warm January morning about 9.30. History, science, nature all here. TFTC.
Forever etched in my mind now as the mass hysteria cache after geokid, running in thongs against my advice tripped and fell gaining a superficial graze that seemingly was worth amputation based on her wailing. Took travel bug and made some swaps.
We rode out MTB's from the bottom up one of the loop tracks and couldn't resist coming across here to find this. It's hard to imagine the ferocity of the firestorm as it came through here. You would hardly know that it was so bad just a few years ago. Thanks for bringing us here.
What better place to meet for our last scooter club get together of the year!?! And on Enzo's birthday no less While waiting for the last member to arrive, we thought we would check if there were any caches nearby and vespafamily located one 182 metres away. Everyone joined us for the stroll to the GZ where Enzo made the find. The ziplock holding the log is broken, but otherwise everything was in good condition. TNLNSL, TFTC!!
Here for the open day. Nice place quick find. Kids had fun. TFTC.
SL kids made swaps + left TB.

Well hidden and thanks for leading us to that grave. Great bit of Canberra history. TFTC
We gave this one a go, despite all access to this cache having "NO ACCESS" signs all around we still ventured on, we planned on using the tourist excuse if challenged for being in a prohibited area, well in the end we got it. TNLN SL TFTC
Nice and sunny day to do the caching for the 'biker' series however to our horror to find out that GSAK didn't download the series into our GPSr!!! However we tried our best to find some caches today...Mr Bushies2 found it and took a TB. Thanks SecretSquirrel-BJC for bringing us to the top and hide.
Nice quick find after lunch with Mick the Merciless and co.
Beautiful day to be out caching too.

First find for nearly 12 months and how much fun did we have, reminded me how much fun this activity is, must do some more. Dropping off Fire Beater have had it way tooo! long so sorry Yoman back in play now. Wanted to drop it off at a place off signifance as Mt Stromlo was nearly wiped out by the 2003 bushfires appropriate place i think.
It's beautiful here. We were up here for our engagement photo shot and the photographer was 10minutes late. What else was there to do then quickly whip out the iPhone..
Found on a beautiful Sunday stroll with my beautiful geowife. A great location and hide. TNLNSL. TFTC!
searched for about 20 minutes but coudnt find it i think our GPS was malfuctioning though
Stumbled upon this accidently whilst at work: the vegetation in this area has been cleared, so more care may need to be taken when re-hiding this cache from now on.

Thank you

Enjoyed a nice stroll over to this cache from the trig station. The 2003 fires sure were devastating up here, it must have cost a lot in damages.
I made this find a bit harder than necessary by thinking it was further in the shrubs than it was. When we were in the right spot, the hide was obvious. Picked up the coin to move along.
Thanks SecretSquirrel-BJC.

Another one bagged for the day.
Dropped off a Zodiac Coin I picked up from Tumut. Seemed sort of appropriate for the location

Nearly gave up on this one after doing a 5m circle around gz, saw something unusual on the way back to the car, and eureka! Tftc
Found after some bush bashing, was a bit hesitant withs signs saying no entry.... Disturbed a couple Roos!
Easy find thanks to eagle eyes of geokid. also found a funny gnome in the nearby ruins. It read 'I belong on Mt Stromlo not in your crappy garden.' Didn't seem to have anything to do with geocaching though.
I DNF'd this back in 2009 some time at which point my GPSr had been continually pointing me INTO the dome. I had never returned to the site however I have spent my first few days attempting some single-track this weekend and lusting after expensive bikes so I also took the opportunity to have another shot at this. Co-ords still had me a ways off however a closer look at the clues and I decided to ignore the handheld and look in 'cache-worthy' spots instead. This proved much more satisfying. Nice to tick this one off the list. TFTC.
Something odd here. It wasn't a puzzle.
Thanks for the cache. I haven't been up here since the first day they opened it after the fires. Lots has been fixed..

It was a very easy find. Cool hiding spot and dome even though it was burnt. Lots of kangaroos around. Took army man in exchange for a trackable tag. Thanks.[:o)]
Surely one of the best views in Canberra. A quick find, sign and hide in between muggles heading to their cars. TFTC.
First cache for the day with a friend visitng from Sydney. Quick easy one to start with. TFTC
Found on a sunny but windy day. I remember coming here just over two decades ago, coming back to see the distinct lack of gum trees now was somewhat unsettling. T4TC
Found with Wasptor, Fraggle-Rock & T-Rex05, on a day that included 5 finds and 7 falls for T-Rex05
TFTC.
TFTC.
Been up here a few times, but never been to this section before. Was interesting to see... Herca was concentrating on his GPS as we approached GZ until I pointed towards a big pile of rocks with a half expose cache sitting amongst them. T-Rex05 made his swaps, and we rehid it again. It still looks obvious, but at least you can't see the cache.
Another find with the mob and Herca. I was surprised it was still here considering how exposed it was. We signed the log and then re-hid it the cache. TFTC!
Nice cache TFTC!

A nice easy hide, close to ANU astronomy and astrophysics facilities. I'd love to be an astrophysicist, but given that I scored 35% in my first ANU physics exam, I think I have a photon's chance in a black hole of that...
Thought we come up to the top of the mount and do this cache and check out the view - nice!

Great views. Will have to go back when the visitor centre is open and have a real look around.

Good directions re parking. We now understand the "not recommended at night" - it would be difficult to be stealthy. TFTC
Found with Wahlenbergia. We came up here after the fires on a bus tour and can't believe how much the vegetation has now regrown. TFTC TNLN
Accompanied with Everlasting and Alchemy2, found the cache while sightseering around the interesting place. Thanks for the cache.
Everlasting show me and Varuna around here... Never knew about 'Solomlo'
Interesting place to visit.

Quick find. Found with Black Bunny.
Would be a great view, except for the smoke haze all over everywhere.
Thanks for the cache.

After a DNF due to signage on our last visit, this cache was quickly found and log signed. A very smokey view from the site today. TFTC
Had a few hours to kill before picking up one of the Junior Dino's so went exploring. What great views out to the west, especially with the recent rains greening everything up.

131 and dingbat12, now really raining and beyond spitting. Red Bellied Black coffee shop badly missed.
This is a nice spot and an easy find! I have visited the Equestrian centre up the hill dozens of times but never been up here. Anyway ... dropped off a goecoin and took a marble. Goecoin came from down in Ulladulla. Picked it up whilst dropping off a travelbug found in New Zealand recently. So the geocoin came from the top of Pigeon house mountain ("Pigeon's Loft") and can now look even further into the sky from stromlo!
Thanks for the cache!
Thanks for the cache!
A nice day at Stromlo. My spouse cleaned up these buildings just after the fires, so these skeletons of buildings have special meaning for me.
It's been a long time since I've been up here - mainly because the devastation wrought by the 2003 bushfires.
However, I decided that today would be a good day to revisit the location and clear some caches.
Was very impressed with a young cyclist from the ACTAS as she powered up the hill appearing to average around 25kms
Nice and simple find at GZ - TNLNSL - TFTC
Took "Fly Me to the Moon" TB.

Stunning spot, views not very good today, as getting pretty dark and raining but fun never the less. Great how the area has already regenerated. Soon you will hardly know there was a fire at all. Also took geocoin - love the metal coins, will move along shortly. Thank you for another great cache.
Dropped this beautiful coin that's been burning a hole in my pocket whilst I searched for a good spot for it!
Lovely location, great views. Amazing how the place has regenerated. Nobody up here today and it looked like an appropriate place to drop off 2009 Victorian Bushfire Appeal Coin. TFTC. Saw TB safely there.
Family Christmas visit and one very urgent TB to drop of. Easy find, rain held of ... just long enough! Some insect has laid eggs in seal of container, so be cautious.
In contrast to some other logs, I found desolation and despair in looking through the window at the 74 in telescope. How the area had been changed by the fires. What could have been if the fires had not gone through... one of the nation's most magnificent research institutions.... yes, I know that part still is there and moving ahead. But still the ruins are too extensive. It is time to record their end and demolish if they are not going to be rebuilt. Log only, thanks for the cache.
(A number of images and further comments may be found on my waymark log for Mt Stromlo Observatory.)

Wow big different compare 2006 and today. Enjoyed myself wander around Stromlo Observatory. Took Travel Bug. SL. Thanks SecretSquirrel-BJC for organising the cache and hunt.
GPS seemed a bit jumpy and had me walking back and forth a few times. With the temp rising you may want to keep an eye out for snakes if attempting this one. TFTC
