Someone adopted it and left it down the road at shunting at the mill hahaha. We adopted it and put it back home.
DNF - another GZ disappointingly filled with trash and even knowing what the cache looks like Im not all that keen on wading through it all looking for it.. Cool lookout spot, the steel mill is so loud even from way back here.If anywhere needs some CITO events its definitely Waiuku.Maybe next time.
We are on a trip in New Zealand. A wonderful country with a lot of (old )caches. There are too many caches so we limit ourselves to the (old) gems or where we happen to make a stop. We found and signed this cache in good condition. KiwiLeon, thank you for this cache, regards xizat-NL. Take care, this hobby can develop to an addiction.
I didn't spot it right away (where's the fun in that!?) but I did spot it eventually!
This afternoon, rattll and I came for a drive up to Glenbrook Beach. Paused at the Steel Mill lookout to find this cache. Found after a short hunt. All good in the container. Returned as found. Tftc!
Out on an afternoon excursion with matagouri to check out this area.Nice and quiet at GZ and no issue's finding the cache. Thanks for putting this here
After years on our bucket list and three cancellations due to Covid, we are thrilled to finally be here. Following several cruises we flew from Sydney, Australia to Wellington, New Zealand to begin our next adventure. Picked up our rental vehicle and will be driving, exploring, hiking, and caching both islands for 3.5 weeks. Not a muggle in sight as we arrived near GZ, but lots of chickens came running across the parking lot. We didn't have any food for them, but they still hung out with us as we located the cache and added our ink to the log. It was so fun to watch those chickens run across the lot. Thanks for adding to our adventure today, Nukeworker and Racquetball Girl, Arkansas, USA
Realised we had forgot to log a couple of caches. On our way back from doing the adventure lab in Waiuku we spotted some signs for a steal mill decided to come and have a look and grab a couple more caches whilst we were here. Parked up nearby wondered over to GZ and spotted the cache in the first place we looked. We then went over to the viewpoint to check out the Mill. Thanks for the information given in the description.
Meandering towards Waiuku where we're visiting friends, and I have some extra time for caching en route.
Getting closer to my destination for the day. I was keen to stop here as NZ Steel was the primary supplier for my former employer and never got the opportunity to visit the site for a tour.
I found what I hoped was a fairly obvious GZ quickly and guess I got lucky by spotting the wee hiding place almost straightaway.
Good to find a caching golden-oldie.
Thanks KiwiLeon

This one took a while with the GPS all over the place. Lots of friendly chickens! TFTC!!
Had to walk up but saw really cool wildlife like furry feet chicken haha. Cool n easy find. Found w MrPretty. Tftc
Found it nestled in a lovely spot. The log is a bit wet from the rain. Would recommend a new piece of paper next visitor
GPS had us going in circles for a while. Once it settled it was an easy find. Tftc
NZ MEGA 2020 (in 2022) road trip - Day 7
Having had a fantastic day on Browns Island on Sunday, another member of Team Done by 1 (RustyNZ) and I arranged to go looking for the Crayola 64 series. Having completed it by mid-afternoon, we decided that neither of us fancied battling peak hour traffic so would do some more caching around this area.
Having parked up nearby, we climbed over the railings to get to GZ. The cache was a quick find and was soon sporting our names in the log. Then we were back off on what would end up being a really long, but worthwhile day. I had my best single day ever with over 100 finds
Thanks for placing this cache.

With TwigNZ making a detour to find the mill and the cache
No chickens seen at GZ, and I think that car park is now closed to visitors, to we had to cross over from the road.
Thanks kiwiLeon for the hide and the history.
I did a bit of a wander around, the GPS did not seem to want to settle, but luckily TwigNZ had no problems getting to GZ

It's my Mega weekend road trip! This is day two, a bulk find day, attempting to complete the Crayola 64. Will expand on my logs, post photos, qualifying caches for challenges, etc. When I get home. TFTC
Gate was locked - it was outside of hours but it does look like they haven't been open for a while. Wandered up and found the cache quickly then took in the sight of the mill. Hadn't realised that steel from sand was invented here and relatively recently too.

It looks like the Lookout is permanently closed. What a pity because its a large area, but admittedly there's not a lot to be seen of the Steelmill.
A nice view over the mill. We parked at the gate, and wandered in. There are a few chooks around too, one of the nearby pohutokawa had some eggs in it! A nice quick find thanks.
Time for another trip to the North Island for Ms_KR and me. Wellington and beyond here we come. Today we toured around Waiuku area and found some new spots to us. It is a hot summer so far!
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

Wasn't keen to duck under locked gates but they should have been open according to the sign so on we went. The dehydrated hydrangeas looked very thirsty on this hot day. I don't think there was anyone sleeping in the car but we got the cache and went to the view. I've never seen such impressively tall corn sow thistles. Was also impressed by Glenfield being the only iron sand plant in the world. Saw the rooster on the way out but the hens had gone for a lie down. Tftc
Black sand (Auckland) was transferred from KiwiLeon to user TeamCacheventures
B4Dawn and I had made plans to adventure in the general Awhitu area to walk and clear out some caches but then the rain set in....ah we don't mind that lets go anyway...just pack the waterproof clothes and jackets!! There were periods it was quite clear and others with really bad wind and rain that made us question what the hell we were doing out but as always it was an adventure and of course some smiley faces to be had.
The car park area was locked but we parked up safely and ducked in for a quick walk to GZ. B4Dawn soon had the cache in hand.
Thanks for the fun.

Spent an excellent day with Keylev. Super wet day, soggy hiking boots but a boat load of caches to show for it!
Nice little spot! Found it quickly. TFTC

Making the most of Auckland Level 3 lockdown allowing movement within the region. The lookout was closed to vehicles, so had to duck under the gate and walk to GZ. Easy find. Thanks KiwiLeon.
Stopped on by here to collect the cache. The lookout looks a little over grown and there were a lot of chickens here today. The cache was quickly located, signed and returned
out with agazo and alunb today, signed log as ana, this one did not want to be removed from its hiding spot, after sweet talking it we soon had the log signed and cache replaced, tftc
Out caching today with Agazo and nufrat. I managed to go around in a bit of a circle before finding this in the most logical of places, TFTC
Noce peace full spot.
With the steel mill so close I thought it would be louder.
Thanks for the cach.

Day 1 on my little weekend Pukekohe escapade - no real plan, just chipping away at the area.
This cache was found quickly and in good condition thanks to a straight forward placement, accurate coords and a good hint. In and out - cheers Kiwileon, TFTC

Applied for a job here 12 years ago as I am a metallurgist. Thankfully I didn't get it. Too hot and dirty. Went to nice clean NZAS instead.
Found it easy enough & all dry as a bone in this weather. A few handsome chooks roaming around & cicadas in full song. I kept away from wasps!TFTC.
A quick find then we went to check out the view... bad idea! We didn't realise that wasps had built a nest under the table and after taking photos, Mrs Jag got stung on the foot as she hopped down. That's when we saw how many wasps there were, and there were a lot!!
Heading to the Leap year event at Awhitu with Merlot58, we detoured to collect this one on our way. We found this one out in the open, so after emptying out the sodden logs we replaced the cache and added some natural camo. We then went to check out the views - be warned there is a large WASP nest under the octagonal table and unfortunately one of us got stung
Thanks for bringing me here. NZS is biggest customer in my workplace and 75% my monthly production is for them! Easy find at GZ. TFTC
Happened to be in the area today with no plan for caching in place so just stopped at a few in the hour or two I had available. Took a while for my GPSr to settle down only to find the cache near the first place I looked but obviously not well enough. Thanks for placing in an interesting spot KiwiLeon.
Headed out this way to find some of the new Crayola puzzle caches, claiming FTF on 5 of them before continuing further afield. Pulled up at GZ and there was no one else around except for a few chooks at the other end of the carpark. I quickly located the cache, adding waterproof paper and turned around to see all the chickens gathered around me.
Log book too wet to find. Located after escaping Castaways resort where we just stayed for 31st wedding anniversary. Lovely spot and meals
Came out from the mill to find it during my lunch, nice little spot although long book is a bit soggy.
Great cashe!! Did not sign log as didn’t have pen. Put log back in log
Be sure to check out the local family of chickens - we spotted some SUPER cute chicks
