Pulled in here after work just before heading back over there haywards and home - cos I needed to make sure my snacks were handy Saw an old road sign and fence and thought that would be a great place for a cache. Opened my app (as you do ) and lo and behold - 15m away. My geo spidey senses are getting better And I found not one but two caches. Signed them both for good measure but the replacement log was in the clear one. Would be interested to know why/how theres two (same containers, same pockets) Cool plot twist to the story - Ive just started watching LotR again, and see the cinematic history of this site - serendipity Mihi ki a koe, JNK, mo te keteroki #494
I wondered where I was heading with this one but I went straight to the cache and scurried back to the car in the rain. TFTC
So after walking the Dry Creek Loop I saw this here - I should find this too. So I followed the trail in... Actually I stopped by here on the way to the Dry Creek bike parking post thingy. It looked like it might be a track up. But no. So now I am back for another look. My phone is not great in the deep trees so I went straight for the hint. ??? That's not a hint item. peer into the trees - not there either. Hey - is this more geotrail? ... Yes it is!!---I have a problem. I am working it, but it's hard. I have been working a streak for so long, and after that so many calendar based projects (of which multi and regular dot-days are still running). So today I decided to do the Dry Creek Loop Walk. There is an ulterior motive of course - there is a regular up there, that I can pre-find for a regular dot day one day.
The quarry and the road were totally deserted this morning - there was nobody else on the road the whole time I was here. There's a well-defined geotrail heading to GZ, but I didn't register it as a geotrail until I checked the hint and started widening my search. I'm pleased to find this at last - it's been here longer than I've been caching but has always been just far enough out of the way for me to stop and look. TFTC.
Day number two here in Wellington was rainy and windy, but that just weather! Second time here today, the facilities where open the first time so I left and came back later. Fun place to see. Thanks for the cache./herrFamaxe from Sweden
Working in Masterton but headed down for a memorable Seagnoid event at Petone beach for the evening. On the way back I stopped for this cache to help with a 2008 Challenge. Didnt take long to locate and sign the cache despite it getting dark. Thought I would then pop back onto the Highway but found I had to double back 2km. Still well worth it. Cache and log all fine. Thanks for the smiley
Idk if it is missing or it is somewhere I didn't look but regardless I am covered in bits of tree
Found on our way to Hutt Valley for a few days. Log very wet, sign Pop and date. Thanks for the cache.
Having completed the Dry Creek Loop this afternoon, I stopped to look for this one on the way out. Fighting past the blackberry, I soon found the hint object, and the cache as described. Log very wet, and no remaining replacements, so took a photo of the cover. Tftc!
Bonus public holiday today, and Mumma muggle has to work, so off the boys go for a day of caching.
Searched for this about a year ago with no luck and as there were already DNF’s on it, figured it was gone. Noticed that someone had found it since, so we decided to have one last stop for the day.
Started to climb a bit higher as maybe hinted by previous finder, no luck and pretty rugged. We decided to give up, but on our way back down, where we looking a year ago, we found it. Nice to get rid of the bluey.
Good camo on this.
Thanks!

The last find of the day before heading home. Straightforward find thanks to hint. TFTC
After doing a couple of caches with TrigNZ, I dropped him back at his car here, it would have been wrong to leave without doing the cache here at the same time. Thanks J 'N' K

It's Waitangi Day, and I also have tomorrow off in order to get a well-earned 4 day weekend. What better way to kick off a long weekend than heading off to a target-rich environment to try for a few caches, including some of the TMGT series caches, and a few others encountered along the way such as this one.
I was due to meet up with Ethness at this point, but having arrived first I thought I would spend the time looking for this cache. It being a glorious day (as is so often the case around here) there were a few Muggles driving by, but none near GZ as I approached. I've been here many times before, and remember the filming for the Lord of the Rings films, seeing the night sky aglow from the arc lights they used.
Today, being a public holiday, the plant itself was closed which made looking for this cache uninterrupted a breeze.
However, getting to the cache was no so much of a casual affair. I suspect that GZ has changed a lot since the cache was first published, but it really wasn't too long before I spotted the Hint item, after which the find was straight forward. With no issues encountered with the cache, the log was duly signed, and all was replaced as found and I was soon on my way to the next one.
Thanks for setting this one up.

Out with TwigNZ in and around the Hutt Valley. Yipee this cache completes my ‘date published’ grid.
Thanks for the cache .

The heavy rain made in difficult to get over the culvert and not feeling like hanging around getting soaked. Will try again another day
Ive been putting off writing this log as it is surreal that life can go on, with caching and such, when such a terrible tragedy has hit this country. I really dont know what to write.

The last time I had a decent full day’s caching run it was way back on Anzac Day, so it is pretty fitting that’s next is on Armistice Day. I decided to head back to Upper Hutt and Lower Hutt region as even though I attended the recent mega and enjoyed it, I didn’t really enjoy the actual caching as it was more like queuing and waiting your turn for the log book and in some cases not even seeing the container and that isn’t my type of caching.
An early morning start to make the most of what promises to be a great sunny day. Heading towards home now after a full day of caching. Pulled in here and after an initial moment, spotted the hint item. It was a bit of a stretch to reach the container, but got there in the end.

Had to send the big child for this one as I could not climb up the bank safely.
Down for the Wellington Mega with KirsTim & yorkshirekiwi83 and vistra for the weekend, picking up caches in the area along the way. Lots of fun had and some cool sights to see. Many thanks to all the cache owners for the great maintenance and their caches!
This was the ninth day of my twelve day trip to go to the Wellington Mega. I had to leave Wellington today after a very enjoyable Mega.
This was one was at the start of my trip to the West, so I stopped for a quick cache. I first looked at the new ones before spotting the old one. TFTC.

On our way to Dry Creek track with Vamber, yorkshirekiwi83 & vistra, quick stop to grab this. A bit of a clamber to get to GZ, but the ground was solid enough. No problems finding the cache, thanks for the upkeep
A bit of a scramble and beware the not so obvious drop into the creek Thanks J'N'K Nice to meet K at the WENZ event
Nice hide. Last time we where here a truck had broken down in the entrance , cast of thousands. Thanks
#5347. Have a day of leave available. Mrs GSEL wanted to do some shopping in Lower Hutt for birthday parties so I headed over with her and dropped her off at the shops. Then had three hours to do some caching. Not sure why I haven't stopped before to see the setting for the Helms Deep scene in LOTR. The cache was placed in a very accessible spot outside the quarry. Managed to park at the entrance and still allow trucks to come and go. Soon spied the hint object and after a bit of a scramble I was over and looking in the right spot for once. The cache had me confused as first. As others have indicated the logbook was not immediately obvious but soon had it in hand. Signed the log and replaced the cache as found. Thanks J'N'K for the cache.
Nice quick find once I had located the hint object. A bit of clambering required, but nothing too strenuous.
Second cache of the morning and after evading the long wet grass the cache was soon in hand. All good here and replaced as found. T F T C J ' N' K
A new day dawns and I have the whole day at my disposal, again, and wheels to drive around in too, yay! The forecast didn't look too flash but I had my beady eye cast towards the Kiwi puzzle caches that I have solved coordinates for and then hoped for a walk out around Titahi Bay. As it turned out I managed a difficult ten caches before the heavens opened and made any meaningful hopes of walking a moot point. Grabbed some comfort food to spend the rest of the day indoors and as soon as I got to my temp home the sun came back out again. So, in the arvo, I headed out for another 10 caches and a good day out.

An previous weekday visit was a non-starter and it's taken a while to get back here. GZ was almost overlooked by a muggle sitting in her car, but fortunately there was just enough vegetation to cover my approach to the surprisingly accessible hint object. Quick find thereafter, and on my way. I attracted something of a scowl from the aforementioned muggle as I left. I can't imagine what she thought I'd been doing.

On a bike ride around the Dry Creek loop with a diversion off to the Haywards track to find some new caches. Last cache of the day - lots of "artifacts" here but more of the household rubbish and freedom camping variety.
At first thought there was no log but eventually figured it was in a separate container in the cache bag so happily signed and back to the car just as the rain started.

Begins our holiday in NZ in Christchurch, we came from Italy to find our son who lives there for two years.
After ten days spent in the 'island of the south stopping at lakes in Dunedin in Oumaru and be returned to Chch, we decided to go north to the island with a flight to Wellington, the idea is to relax a few days between the sea and the beach course cache, unfortunately we will take four days of rain and wind, impossible to take to the beach.
But we'll make with the cache.
They expect historical cache but especially the GC46 one of the few positioned in May 2000 still alive, among other things, the oldest of NZ.
On the way to the htel we stop for some cache
Greetings from Italy

Harder than expected because of the camo. Just enough of a break in the torrential rain to make this find, after taking a pass on Rivendell and Anduin further up the road. Thanks for the placement!
There is a massive roadworks project going on nearby. I have looked at this cache a bit lately but decided that there were too many people around. Early on a Sunday morning seemed to be an ideal time to stop for a closer look.
Sadly, there was a man parked nearby in his ute. Rather than driving away I went and spoke to him. He was meeting his daughter here. While we were talking the daughter arrived and they drove away. All good to find the cache now!
The cache is in good condition. All nice and dry.
Thank you

Clambered up to get this one. Camo bag bit wet. Log dry. Quick park and grab. TFTC
Was tricky in the dark. Missed it at first, but got there in the end. Log very wet and not sure my entry was very legible. TFTC
Nice quick drive by, although not somewhere we would ever normally think of stopping! TFTC
Little side trip on my way home from work this afternoon. Quick find and sign. No sign of any orcs. thanks for the cache.
Heading south on business with a plan to pick up some caches as I went and this was one of thirty odd picked up on the way there and back. Had not driven the back road for a while so three caches along here was reason enough. Parked up in an empty spot and off to find the cache. Got to GZ and looked at the clue then looked at how much harakeke there was here but after letting the GPSr settle, cache was quickly found - TNLNSL. Thanks for the placement J 'N' K.
Find #110. Quick find on my way home, and I dropped off a travel bug. The log itself is somewhat damp, but whatever material it's made of, it still lends itself quite well to being written on in biro, so hats off to the CO for that! Note for anyone who might wear heels ... please don't when finding this cache. I was a bit nervous of slipping. And just when I'd got to GZ, I saw a female mallard and her oh-so-cute brood just starting to cross the Haywards Hill Road eeeeeek!! So I dashed back to try to ensure that none of them would get squashed by traffic (thankfully none did!) but it took me a little longer than I would have liked, thanks to my footwear, grumble grumble. Still, the cache was right where I would have looked even if there had been no hint. Easy to do this on a Friday as the quarry next door shuts at 16:00 so by the time I was out of work at 16:30 in the Hutt, the workers were all gone so there were only muggles zooming past in their cars. TFTC!
On a mission to Upper Hutt from Porirua, so collected my first Hutt caches along the way. Nearly chickened out at the prospect of stepping into a muddy bog in my good shoes, but GZ was tantalisingly close, so took a brave leap. Quick find.
Took a photo of the log in case my writing comes off. Log a bit wet. didn't open the container with swappables. Easy enough find with breaks in the traffic. TFTC ☺
Easy find but tricky timing. Very busy road in the weekend and people in the carpark across the road. However I waited and timed it as best I could. Grabbed this one a few days ago and thought I had logged it using my phone, but no, I just noticed it didn't get through. TFTC.
#1715 Quick find after work. Parked right by GZ and was soon on my way again. Isn't CGI incredible?! Thanks for pointing out the spot. TFTC!
I remember the filming at night and used to sometimes come down and watch the lights and rain machines - it was impressive. TFTC !
Reasonably quick find TFTC

Found with my brand new geo-hubby Mushin on our honeymoon trip around NZ! For Christmas we were also with our caching buddy flickchick as we hunted for Lord of the Rings filming locations. Cool to find helm's deep! TFTC!

Greetings from Japan!!! This was one of several Geocaches we found on Christmas Day, as we toured from Wellington to Tongoriro National Park, looking for various LotR filming sites.
This was a fairly quick PnG. Too bad we can't see the actual filming location, but the place was still cool.

First of many LOTR caches that we found today. Too bad you can't go in to see the actual location. TFTC

Easy park and grab cache this evening with tylerdrummond. Loved the camo bag, works really well too as I nearly didn't see it sitting right in front of me! I remember driving past one night when they were shooting here, the whole place was lit up like a Christmas tree. Certainly does look a lot different now. Unfortunately with the huge advancements in CG technology over the past decade, sets like this are becoming a thing of the past. Unlike its predecessor, the majority of The Hobbit trilogy was shot in the studio with the backgrounds added digitally later.
