Out on a maintenance run with the CO. Such a great day for it and just cool and windy enough to keep most of the muggles away. After a short search I spotted what I was looking for.
Thanks Gonefishen07 for the cache and the fun day
Thanks Gonefishen07 for the cache and the fun day
Another lucky find in between so many muggles. After Geohubby endured dirty and bird poop to nab this very tricky hide tftc and series
Was out on a philip island geoday to find a heap of caches on the island. Well we found some caches but not heaps as they seemed to be than a walk up but what some great views TFTC for all your efforts too.
A group of us planned a geocaching assault on Phillip Island today, seeing how far we would get in finding all of the approximately 120 available caches. We did aim mostly for puzzles, mysteries and earthcaches so it was no surprise that we ended the day with less than 20 finds... quality over quantity, I suppose .
I enjoy doing logic puzzles like these. With the final co-ordinates punched in we pounced on GZ and soon found the cache, signing the log as 'P.I. Crew' to save space.
Thanks for the series, Hell+Back/Gonefishen07.
And now we'll keep circling the island clockwise direction.

A big drive down from Geelong for a day out on the Island with friends old and new. A great day with mainly finds save for a couple of D5's. Perfect weather too which had to be happy with, despite the thick fog in the morning! Caches were logged 'The Philip Island Crew - 5/08/16' to save logbook space as a group.
A tricky hide for a simple location. Awesome views however!

I enjoyed the mathematical jiggery-pokery involved in this puzzle. Having briefly parted ways, the cache was found and the log signed by the rest of the group before I even got out of my vehicle. Log was signed 'The Phillip Island Crew' as time-saving measure. Thanks Hell+Back & Gonefishen07!
Found this cache without looking for it.
It was sitting out in the open on a rail. Don't know if it counts as a find or not. Rehid the cache. Unsure where it should be . Owner will have to check. Cheers cj.trex

This one had been driving me totally nuts but could finally claim the prize after a bit of help - thanks gonefishen
Confirmed the suspected co-ordinates using the 'geo-checker'.
Unfortunately could not find cache.
Pretty sure we found the mounting position, but no cache to be found.
We did however find a penguin (which was some consolation for the kids).
Thanks anyway 'Gonefishen07'.
Chiefton!

While staying in Frankston (waiting for the Melbourne Mega) we visited our Geodaughter and her partner who were holidaying on the Island from Adelaide.
While her partner attended a 'California Superbike's School' our Geodaughter (Karopi) accompanied us to a few caches during the afternoon.
We spent a long time searching for this one but didn't manage to come up with the goods. Plenty of evidence of bird 'tunnels' (maybe penguins??) and other birds near GZ. Will watch this one for a while
Many thanks for the hide anyway Gonefishen07

With the continuation of great weather, we went back to Phillip Island for some sightseeing
and to pick up a few more caches.
Worked our way through as many of the puzzles as we could, and a few traditionals as well.
Thanks to all the owners, for the effort that you put into the construction and the hides.
Many thanks for placing this cache, hell+back, for us and others to find.

On our last visit here was on a Sunday afternoon and many muggles prevented a flat out search. Today was very quiet and after a few minutes the container was in hand and the log signed.
Spent the sunny morning working out some puzzles and then spent the wet cold and windy afternoon finding them. I was worried this one might be tricky after the DNFs. It was. I was about to call it when I thought about how a magnetic cache could be hidden at the location and there it was After skillfully avoiding the most enourmous geese on the planet the cache was in hand and the log signed. TFTC.
Found this one with dad on a very cold and windy day. There were some big geese looking after this one!. Thanks.
Noticed the 2 previous searchers logged DNFs and we couldn't find it either after a prolonged and careful search without any interruption. We will add this to our watch list.
Had solved several "Not drowning" puzzle before leaving home but this one was on the list still to do & was able to solvewhile on Phillip Island so returned area to look. Although a DNF, was a great place to be here today !
What is it with tourists?! Two more lots and the couple from NDC Nobbies, sat and sat and sat here, prob waiting to go to penguins. Oh well, that's part of the game
Found with Gonefishen07, Lazzal and Liz and Bruce. I was very lucky to be able to log these caches as I was picked up from school instead of getting the bus home. I was glad that they picked me up as we had lots of fun finding these caches around the Island. Thanks Hell+back for hiding them. TFTC
We have wanted to do this series of caches for a very long time and finally our travels have bought us close by. A fine day and awesome scenery made this a caching day to remember. We ventured from spot to spot, occasionally groaning at yet another set of steps and another walk through the sand but then the incredulous comments about the shape of the rocky outcrops, the changing colour of the rocks, the changing sea or the way the sea looked like waterfalls coming off the rocks. As the day turned into night we experienced an amazing sunset with the hues changing to soft and calming colours. During the course of the day we saw Cape Barren Geese, Kangaroos, Wallabies, Sea Eagles and penguins. Our company for the day LazzaL, Gonefishen07 and when school finished Zobo04 joined in the hunt, we could not have asked for better. This cache was very difficult to spot, plus we had to wait for the tourists to leave and also we tried not to disturb the resident penguin. Then it was a case of having to get down and dirty in order to access. Thanks to hell+back for the enormous effort in organizing this variety of caches and for showing us the beauty spots of Phillip Island.
A very big day doing this series of caches with Liz and Gonefishen07, some very challnging walks to the caches and some extremely beautiful scenery. This is definitely at least a 2 day exercise to get all of this series. Home at 8pm with pizza for dinner, the rest will have to wait. Thanks to hell+back for hiding this cache.
Found with Liz & Bruce, Lazzal and Zobo04 on a perfect day for caching. I was very lucky to be able to tag along with these teams today and gather knowledge from them. These teams carry a wealth on knowledge. It was also a pleasure to be able to show them some fantastic local sights. It was a fun filled day with lots of walking, talking and laughs. Thanks for helping me show them around the island. Spent some time here looking was distracted by the little penguin under the lookout. We then had to wait as a bus load of tourist that turned up and all took photos as well. Finally lazzal came up with the goods. Thanks to hell+back
Suscoe headed out this afternoon with the in-laws for a drive out here.
We were picking up where we left off last year with these caches and so a stop here was required.
However a car of visitors arrived and we had to wait them out.
SO after 20 minutes we resumed the search and the cache was son spotted.
Thanks to hell+back for placing this cache and for the puzzle.
Nice to tick this one off the list.

Today was our last full day in the Phillip Island area, for a while. We enjoyed being out and about in the sunshine (for a change) in an effort to put a few more smilie faces on our geocaching map of this part of Victoria. We took a few strokes in this series about three years ago and with extra workouts and training at home, our wish to return has become a reality. Our second visit to this spot proved successful, the first time being thwarted by muggles and rain. A great view of the evenings entertainment site.
TNLN . . SL . . Thanks for the hunt hell+back.

My friend did the maths for me.
I always disliked this sort of problem.
The cache took a long time to find and it wasn't until we were about to go that I finally spotted it.
Happy to cross this off on all fronts.

This morning we cached in and around Wonthaggi. This afternoon we returned to Phillip Island. Yesterday we found some of the caches in this series and today we wanted to see if we could add to our collection. We had solved this puzzle before leaving Tassie. This was our second of the "Not Drowning, Caching" caches for today. The views from GZ were spectacular. It took a few minutes to locate the cache. The cache and it's contents were in good condition. TFTC hell+back. Another cache in the series completed - we were looking forward to the task for the final cache.
# 3307. Travelling around with the CO and her chief maintenance officer today checking on caches and fixing where needed. Since my last visit to the Island I had solved the rest of the puzzles (often with the help of my chief puzzle master) bless his soul!! Another nice cache on another part of the rugged coastline, another clue collected and on we go. TFTC hell+back.
Found on a final drive to the end of Phillip Island while staying for a few days.
Last one for this mornings drive and a major jackpot at GZ.
3 little penguins have this as their home and watched carefully as I searched around the area.
Another relatively quick find thankfully and a minute watching the little ones before I headed back to camp again.
Looks like I won't finish the series this trip either, so I will have to return another day.
TNLNSL TFTC hell+back,

This puzzle had us puzzled, but the view from GZ was worth the frustration. The trickiest part was dodging muggles. Relieved to sign the log at last. Thanks hell+back
Did calculations and found cache on our Australia Day long-weekend. What a view of the penguin parade. Took info required. Sl Thanks Hell & Back for another cache.
I really enjoyed solving this puzzle, and I also enjoyed the views from GZ, which was a fortunate thing as I had to outwait some muggles chatting about how they would have tackled the surf in their day. I quickly located the cache in between muggle tourists; one wanted to know what I was looking for - penguins of course! - a plausible answer given my mode of transport and appearance. Thanks hell+back for the puzzle and the cache.

Had a few attempts at the calc's on this puzzle and got close but somehow missed something which surprised me and this resulted in the checker always saying no. With a little help and nudge was able to narrow the search grid to a specific area and once I arrived today it was obvious where it would be. After a careful search the cache was at last in hand. Clue noted. TFTC Hell+Back

Lots of excitement on this one. Mr SKI was crossing the road when some vocal Cape Baron Geese decided to use it as a runway, honking at him as they took off.
Next bit of excitement was getting squealed at by penguins as we searched for GZ.
In the end this one took some careful looking before we had it in hand.

After having found my reference point and performed some maths based upon it, I was eventually left with a set of co-ordinates. I plugged them in to evince and got the all clear. So out caching with abl973, we were able to complete some more of the caches in the series, and this was next on the list. When we pulled up to GZ there were a few muggles checking out the surf conditions. After they had moved on we were able to commence our search and abl973 soon turned up the container. Thanks for the cache.
15/07/12 10:14 AM Find #1106 Its back to the island for myself and Square Pegs. Our day started with clear skies and a crisp breeze which developed into rain and strong wind. The elements certainly tested our resolve but it was amazing. We saw contrasts of colour in the sea and surrounding environment that is the sort of thing most people would never see as they opt to stay indoors.
Whew! This is one precarious perch while the wind blows but with the log signed and the cache safely returned we can move onto the next. Thanks Hell+Back!

Another TDC assault on Philip Island. The members of the team (myself, Quasar3671 and TrailRunning) together today, for an attempt at a final clean up of the area. We didn't quite get them all, but almost all of them... We did see some whales, that was awesome. Very wet and miserable, but our team spirit was still great with some laughs and jokes along the way. Found after a careful search. TFTC.
The members of TDC gathered together for a quick trip to Phillip Island. Marshy was in town again, and Marty took the morning off work. He was soon to return once he had collected the caches he needed, leaving Marshy and I to continue to the western part of the island to gather the caches not available during the night due to road closures. The island is now close to being complete. It was a wet and miserable day, but a few jokes and laughs lightened the spirits and the whale watching off Flynns Reef. Gingerly searching the cache was found. thanks
#2868 An interesting puzzle that had us going initially however today we found ourselves at GZ on a lovely Sunday morning. We heard some growling but found the cache after a short search & left the natives be. Our thanks to Hell+Back for the cache and the series [^]
After a full school term with exam after exam, I didn't get to do much caching. This was all going to change however when I started to plan an assault on Philip Island. I started to think of which town would be best to assault to raise me from the dead after my abysmal effort in the earlier months. With 3 different series, a power trail, and a handful of other caches, Philip Island was the place to go. So I started solving the puzzles and making a few phone calls so I would have the best chance of finding a heap. I solved most of the puzzles, however some of them required a bit of a nudge or someone else to realise my error. I started to think about my route in a way that would get me the most finds possible. We ended up with 55 in one day, and 87 for the whole weekend which was a fantastic effort . The weather was very on and off for the whole weekend which made some journeys quite unpleasant, however on the whole it was awesome. The Nobbies was a definite highlight for me. We started off the day with the 'Pathway' and managed to complete it and all of the other caches along the trail in just over 4 hours. What an awesome weekend! Thank you to all of the owners who contributed, but especially hell+back and The Three Geo Amigos (you know who you are)!

We took a lovely walk along the beach and rock pools, looking up the steep cliffs. So close! Found it eventually.
Had to wait out out some photography muggles who were obviously locals and pointed out EVERY headland. eventually they left and I circled around to where the cache was. It was very crowded there with several of the locals but they were not interested in me. TFTC
We found this cache as a part of a non-stop 24 hour caching run with Marcus Vitruvius.
We logged 207 caches in the 24hr period, and this was one of them.
This was one of the many "Not Drowning, Caching" puzzles we were able to solve and log whilst on the island tonight.
Literally got knocked over by a group of cute penguins here, which made for some entertainment for MV.
Another enjoyable puzzle and cache here.
Many thanks hell+back for a great series of puzzles and caches. TNLN SL. Cheers.

This was another find today as part of a 24hr caching run that yielded 207 cache finds with Haveanez. This one turned out to be quite a funny story finding this one. Expecting to find the cache in the most obvious spot, Haveanez ducked under for a look when he was startled by a group of penguins no more than a foot away from his face...which resulted in him falling head over heels backwards. After a good solid laugh at his expense, we headed around a little further away from the group and spotted the cache neatly tucked away.

We were wondering if we had the right location as we solved this one ages ago and the clue didn't seem to fit too well but wallah there it was. TFTC
A trip down to the Island gave me the opportunity to have a go at some of the 'Not Drowning , Caching' series. As with most of the puzzles in the series I had this solved a little while ago. After quite a number of pages of mathematical calculations I got the tick of approval for a correct set of final coordinates. At GZ there appears to be some penguins nesting under the part of the structure closest to the road. They vented their disapproval of me searching there so I went back to the car and read a few logs. Searching again and I found the cache far enough away as to not disturb them. Great views from here too. Thanks for the hide.
Having failed at the previous cache we had lost our confidence! Despite a good look with Tank47 and muggle friends it did not appear. Peter phoned a friend again, probably a little prematurely, however an easy find was subsequently made. Amazinly enough, the last time I was on the island I was sitting down below with a large group of children from work when a little black cloud approached and soaked me (and kids) to the skin despite wearing my "spray" jacket! TNSL and left a ladybug as usual to watch the penguins. Thanks hell+back.
Found at 1730hrs with KI Bug on our "Not Drowning" caching weekend, had a bit of trouble locating its new loction, used our phone a friend option, and the cache was very soon in our hands, thanks hell+back for the cache, TNLNSL
The cache has been replaced (again) using superior technology which hopefully will keep it out of the penguin's way!
I don't think this has been "penguined" so much as muggled - in any case, it's gone again and will probably be disabled for a month or so while we sort out a better hide/location
On the island today doing the road kill series we decided to have another look for this one now that it had been replaced after our dnf. Unfortunately it appears that the caching gods or the resident penguins are against on this one as again today we walked away with a dnf after quite a lengthy search. Hopefully third time lucky
checked, and found the cache was indeed AWOL
it has now been replaced with small container, hopefully out of the penguin's way
co-ordinates unchanged
it has now been replaced with small container, hopefully out of the penguin's way
co-ordinates unchanged
We pulled up here and thought to ourselves that we knew where the cache would be but after a quick search found nothing. We intensified the search, still found no container but we did find a penguin. Not wanting to disturb the little fellow we decided to stop our search. Unless the penguin was sitting on the container we have a feeling that it may not be there anymore. Maybe third time lucky for us.
Thanks anyway the view was great

Thank goodness Mr S. was able to work out this puzzle - it totally eluded me. Even GZ proved a bit of a problem - there was a muggle nearby who wasn't moving in a hurry, so we had to go and do another cache and come back. Thankfully, he wasn't there when we returned and we just timed it nicely between muggles, TFTC.

Found on our big adventure around Phillip Island with crank1(mum) and Everlasting. We were cutting it fine.. The had just closed the roads for preparation for the pengiun parade but luckily he gave us the "5 minutes!" and we raced in there. We were checked up on, but by then we had made our found! Phew!

Found by Mary & David at 1305. Couldn't believe the development that has taken place at the Penguin Parade centre since we were there last. Mary remembers when, many years ago, you just walked through the sand dunes and sat on your beach towel anywhere to see the penguins, and it was free! There may be birds nesting near the cache, as it was dotted with droppings and feathers. Good camo though. Our thanks to Hell+Back as always.
Found this cache with a Penquin guarding the cache we were very respectful in removing and replacing the cache trying not to disturb the little guy/girl as there were 2 egg's nearby so note to fellow cacher's.

The start of the south side of the island for us. Found the cache with little trouble and noticed another car for the first time today we ended up seeing many more times. The car left and we had the place to our selfs. Found the guard Penguin watching the cache. After we convinced the Guard Penguin we where cachers by showing it our GPS it let us pass and retrieve the cache. #17 for the day. TFTC

A nice, easy one here at a spot with great views back to the east. The last time I was anywhere near here, the penguins had the place to themselves and didn't have to endure the attention of the crowds of humans that seem to see their presence as some sort of spectacle. Actually, the last time I was near here was in 1971 when I spent a weekend at the Summerlands guest house (I don't know if it's still around here now though).

Thanks again Hell+Back

Boy, did this puzzle cause some problems! Sure pays to read the question 2 or 3 times before charging off to the answer.
As we were looking for the cache, my son noticed a penguin standing right next to it. Who'd have thought you'd see a penguin on Phillip Is. Anyway, we made a quick grab after he scampered deeper into the spot. Hope he didn't get too big a fright. Doesn't say much for their gaurd skills either, but I'm sure if I was dressed as a whitebait, he would've had me. Thanks again Hell+Back for the effort you put into all these caches. TNLNSL

Found at 4.55pm GAFF2. Now this is more like it - a puzzle that I can work out without knowing a whole heap of stuff or having to Google! This was the last cache for the day as we needed to get back to camp to join our camping neighbours for 5.00pm drinkies - looks like we are going to be late. A nice percpective of the area that is so popular - when we first came to that spot about 45 years ago there was just sand - no concrete in sight. Thanks Hell+Back.
Another puzzle I'd only partly solved. Not so good at the maths types and needed more time. Still found it easily enough thankfully. Wondered what will they do if the penguins decide to land somewhere else for a change but I'm assured they won't.
Thanks again Hell+Back

Found at 1110 hrs,
I must admit I was pretty hopeless at doing this puzzle so I tagged along to log this cache. However once at GZ it was obvious as to the cache whereabouts.
TNLN, Signed log. Thanks for the cache Hell+Back.

Nice little puzzle, and a great view from GZ. The question was raised as to why the grandstands were facing the sea! They obviously haven't been bussed down here.
Thanks, Robmc.

Find # 2613 and 16th for the weekend at 10:43am Accompanied by Feathertop and Alansee on a weekend away for our "Not Drowning" phillip Island assualt. I tried but couldnt see the scared penguin, TNLN, Signed Log, Thanx Hell+Back....
This one was fun to do using a spreadsheet. Feathertop saw a Penguin right at gz. When Oenze and I looked it was hiding so we only have his word for it. Just as well we had picked the correct side for the cache else we may have been nipped.
We were surprised and pleased to find a road with open gates lead us across the headland to this cache. There were not many place to hide a cache here and as I bent over to retrieve I faced the penguin that Rubik haad encountered on his visit.
By the time Oenze and Alansee had a look it had shuffled off to a distant corner.
Thanks Hell&Back

We found our 10th Hell+Back cache at 11:50am as the 11th of 32 on our Phillip Island "Magnum P.I." trip with Cold Freeze, Team Rubik and Acts2YouthGroup. I really enjoyed driving the road between the Nobbies cache and this one. Penguin says "Hi". Also says thanks for the cache as he uses it to catch and store fish between geocachers. Took small crab and left 6 whitebait. Penguin not impressed so changed to 2 dozen whitebait which was acceptable. Thanks for the cache from D B-A.

On the way to finding this cache I was startled when I took an inquisitive look under an object and find myself face to face with a fairy penguin! The puzzle required a team effort to solve but we managed it in the end. The views were very impressive and I had Pyramid Rock pointed out to me for the first time here.

Eleventh of Thirty two cache finds for the day and ninth of the not drowning series, the cache was found in the company of Rabbitto, Rubik and Cold Freeze on our P.I plunder day. We took our kids to see the penguins for there first time last year, I still love seeing the parade of penguins and think it is well worth the look; we had a closer encounter of the penguin type on our way to locating the cache. Thanks Hell+Back for the cache.
