A 10 day trip to Tasmania with a lot more caching then initially expected, but I enjoyed every minute of it! This was one of the many caches I found and enjoyed. Can't wait to get back here and do it all over again, there are so many great places in Tasmania.

Out for a drive passing time on this public holiday. Headed into Westbury for the Nellie Payne woodcarving exhibition. Exceptionally talented lady with lasting legacy, Loz was most impressed, not, highlight of her day was Andy's Gelato. Grabbed this multi before heading out of town. Nice easy find, if not for the hunt would never have known the old bridge was there.. thanks..!!

04-Oct-15
Can't remember the old bridge or ever driving over it, possibly a bit before my time with a drivers licence, but have been to the site before to check out the old remains.
Not much parking up on the road so drove the geo4x4 right to the fence line.
Quickly solved the coordinates and soon after had the cache in hand and log signed.
Thanks for the great cache.
Cheers

Travelling around Australia and now in Tasmania!

Headed out from Loira to the Westbury region today. Still some snow on the hilltops we see.

Beautiful in the sun but when it ducked behind the clouds a bit cool. Wink

Found your cache to help us with our exploration of the area. [^]

On the way to Launceston the weather isn't nice but not too cold - feel comfortable for the cache day... Enjoyed the multi and nice walk along to GZ. Thanks

22-Aug-14
Agree with Hilberts, couldn't find a way into WP1 as it was fenced off and appeared to be private land.
Was hoping to get the final souvenir for 7SofA by finding this cache but didn't want to trespass. Could the CO confirm that it is not on private land?

Yay woohoo happy dance as this is only our 2nd multi. Squelch squelch down to the sign in my gummies again but glad I did it in winter rather than summer! Thanks for the history lesson. I actually used to cross Roxford a lot in her day on the way to the grand parents. The walk to the cache made me giggle! SL TFTC madchilli I now have myself another souvenir!

Finding a safe spot to park here proved a little difficult. Hubby ended up dropping me off. Now to get the information required also proved a little difficult. Luckily in the bottom corner near the river there is a low spot in the fence that you can easily step over but b ware you still have to battle the boggy paddock before you can fill in the blanks. Why the Council decided to put a sign here with such poor access is beyond me :/ Nonetheless after all that the actual cache (WP2) is much easier to locate and access Smile

Gotcha !!! TFTC

12-Oct-13
Difficult parking and a very busy road was a little off-putting (and ended up with screaming geokids who had to stay in the car as this was an unsafe area for them), and it would appear that WP1 was perhaps on private land as the area was fenced off? Gave up.

Enjoyed the multi, a pity the site is not better kept as an interesting spot. TFTC.

A very nicely put together multi! Good history and final cache was a half decent size as well. Was a little worried about snakes in the long grass, but then again, there arent many of thise at 7am. Tftc!!!

Ok wet shoes and pants from the day before so pulled up close to GZ hung the kids pants on the guard rail and leaned there spare shoes against the wooden pole to dry in the beautiful morning sunshine. We headed down through the goat trail to the lost forgotten sign. Enjoyed reading and talking to the boys about the info provided. Soon headed off to GZ with log signed we gathered up our belongings and headed off for the next challenge.

02-Mar-12
Well, we will remember Roxford now: Access was a bit tricky and through high grass, info obtained easily and we found a better track towards GZ. On the way, the vulture was walking ahead when he suddenly jumped: A dark-grey basilisk was equally surprised by the encounter and took the safe option of slithering into higher grass!
Another caching story to tell those who choose to listen.

Been meaning to collect this cache for ages now. Great little stop on the way home from work. TFTC GOOD INFO!

18-Jan-12
We decided that we should return from Whisky Jims Knob via the gelato shop at Westbury and noticed that this cache was sort of on the way - and were very pleased that we had as it took us to a great little bit of local history. We located the requisite information and then went hunting for the cache - fancy it being just there!!! TN Lfrog jibbitz. TFTC

A nice little multi which we enjoyed doing. thanks madchilli

Enjoyable cache. Sad but I can't remember the old bridge although I know I must have driven over it. Liked the location of the cache, anyone who parks where we did will also appreciate the joke. TFTC

We made an easy find although we did bugger up the first attempt at the co-ords. Thanks madchilli for the cache.

Thanks for mowing the grass. A better place to park would be good, I was already past any possibility of getting back to launceston with out going a long way towards Burnie. Took Australian Flag TB. TFTC.

Cache Hunt 253; GAFF1; Weather, Sunny; Helpers, None. Cache condition, OK. Finds for the day, 1/2 - STATUS - Found
So, another cache close one to the office I'm working at and a multi to boot. Parked the car off the road and made my way to wp1. The grass was very high as I made my way down and though it to get to the bridge and sign. It was funny as I was thinking about the possibility of treading on a snake, when as I got a few metres from the sign, I looked down and got about 1m away from a friggin huge SNAKE Surprised Man I jumped back and my heart started racing. Do I do the Man v wild and smack it on the head and eat it? Nah, I thought I'd better stay clear. I copied the info from the sign while waching the snake. It slithered into the higher grass, so I went to opposite dirrection and back to the car. Made my calculations and found cache pretty close. whew. SL. TN Left TB. Sighed again, and was happy that I completed the Multi and made it out alive! TFTC.

Took toy soldier and left a marble
Thanks Madchilli

29-Dec-10
Ditto with previous cacher, weeds and fences made it difficult to view the first WP.
Carrying 2 10 month old babies aswell stopped us from making a decent attempt at this one.
Oh well, maybe next time.

28-Dec-10
Still on the way to Hobart. Found my way to WP1 - over the fence and through the long grass, and back. Interesting piece of history, thanks for showing me this place.

13-Dec-10
Showed up today, but not quite a DNF as we simply weren't prepared! The grass was at chin-height and we couldn't climb over the fence to get to the first waypoint. Maybe another time... or perhaps do what a previous cacher did, and bring a telephoto lens!

06-Oct-10
Found, solved and logged in the comfort of our car, thanks to a slightly awkward parking spot and a telephoto lens. We did have to get out to retrieve and replace the cache.
Thanks DE&D

16-Sep-10
The kids had fun slogging their way down to the WP before slogging their way back to the cache, approx underneath the notepad and GoogleEarth photo we had put down to explore the area. They were dismayed to be so close and take so long to find the cache via a roundabout and fun explore.
Thanks madchilli.

A quick lot of calculations, back through the wet paddock and bingo; a find at 1345hrs. TFTC and cheers OldSaint.

A strange place for a sign and not sure many people would read it. Quite wet underfoot, but definitely no snakes!! Took eraser and left the dolphin from our last cache plus the Jeep TB. TFTC

Finally got out to grab this cache…… hard to believe the bridge was in use or at least still there only ten years back…. Looks like it has been gone for many more years than that….
Found the info and BACK to the cache….lol very clever….Think we may have used this type of multi ourselves on a couple of occasions….

I think I have been looking here before when it was a trad. Anyway back today through the long grass carefully to the sign and after gathering the numbers I did my sums and found your cache easily.

Found by David & Mary at 0825. For lovers of Colonial history and details, this cache is perfect. An interesting sign, and we enjoyed the view of the new bridge. Our thanks to madchilli.

05-Feb-10
Heading down to the info sign I came across a large fresh snake skin so I was loosing interest quick in the long grass. Obtained the necessary info and then an easy walk through a mown area to gz. Pleased to have completed this one and to get out of there. TNLN Thanks

29-Jan-10
This location was a complete surprise. The very long grass and prickles were off putting, but the history of the area and the magnificent scenery at the creek were a hundred-fold compensation. An excellent location - thanks very much for this cache.

30-Aug-09
Found this one when I was Mrs Cheesy Pig. I have struck out on my own and am now logging the caches I found in my previous persona!

30-Aug-09
What a lovely little spot this must have been when the original bridge still existed. I'm sorry we never got to see it. Oh well thanks madchilli, great little cache.

25-Aug-09
A nice tidy little multi without having to go too far between waypoints. Thankfully this cache wasn't submerged in water like the other caches we attempted to find. Thanks for the cache madchilli!

25-Aug-09
Once we figured out where to park the car and how to get down to the sign extracting the required info was straightforward. Back to the car we went, all buckled up, entered the coordinates for WP2 and read out the distance to run.... not many metres at all! All back out of the car again and the cache was quickly located. Took nothing, left strawberry eraser. Thanks for showing us the old bridge and associated history.

25-Jul-09
Found this one on the way to the mole creek caves
(wifes first cave trip) nice and easy to work out this one
was on our way rather quick

This bridge has gone down hill rather fast since it has stopped being used

thnx for the cache mr chillli (keep em comming)

thnx

Was the old bridge seriously only closed that recently? It's rapidly fallen into disrepair - it looks like it hasn't seen any traffic for a century. They don't make it super easy to get to the sign, which is a bit strange. Thanks for drawing me there though. That was interesting.

08-Jun-09
Our visit here was on a wet and foggy morning, the area is very overgrown and we got saturated walking to the sign. We read the interesting history and soon had the cache in hand.

Hard to beleive there was a road there up until 8 years ago! How things become overgrown and un loved so quickly

We parked and made our way down after doubting how we would actually get to the sign. Once there we quickly had the answers, only to realise that the final GZ was so close by it wasn't funny Big Grin

Interesting history here. Not well maintained by the amount of scrub bashing required. Not really just very long grass. Found second part of multi easily once I recharged the flat battery in the PDA.

05-Mar-09
quick find on way home from lonny

21-Feb-09
Very enjoyable and interesting cache because I didn't know any of the history or indeed that any of it was there. An excellent use of a multi too. There were heavy black clouds and fat raindrops falling while I did this cache but 100m down the road as I continued driving it was blue skies and brilliant sunshine - strange! (No snakes either - the rain and my thumping footsteps made sure of that!) Thanks for the chance for a break and the excellent cache, madchilli - I enjoyed it very much!

13-Feb-09
This should have been a straightforward simple multi but somehow I came up with a 'distance to destination' of over 2000km away (and I didn't just do it once I managed to do it twice Red Face)
Third attempt and my luck changed.
Lots of fun, thanks madchilli Big Grin

Bizarre tourist attraction - good spot for a cache - although we took the wrong path in thinking there must be agate and path! left geocoin

nice spot for fishies

27-Dec-08
Could not find this one no matter how hard I looked - the area's been freshly mowed though, so it could have either been discovered or just covered by large amounts of dry matted grass. Either way, had to log a DNF for this one. Sad

27-Dec-08
Well, the grass on the way to Wpt1 was waist high and difficult to get through.
Noticed I was starting to itch.
Coords obtained and cache quickly found.
By the time I got back to the car my skin was bright red with huge wheals and I was scratching like a monkey.
Might pay to take a more circuitous route.

10-Dec-08
dropped off TB's

08-Dec-08
Finally up and running again, it is now an easy 2 part multi.

20-Oct-08
Called in to check today after a DNF by Sirius and its gone, I will temporarily disable this cache while I come up with a better hide

18-Oct-08
Spent almost an hour wandering around aimlesly searching for this hide but to no avail. Interesting spot though. Left dissapointed but will have to return another day to seek out this "easy find"??? Thanks anyway.

GPSr was adamant as to where I should look...but no go. Couldn't see any other possible spots???Another time....Cheers.

Stopped at this one thinking that FTF was still up for grabs (well, it was at 7:42pm when I was still in Burnie).
Found my way to GZ but this time I left the cachemobile on the road, high and dry!
A short search (20 secs) and the cache was in hand.
Find #27 on my "JUST ONE MORE Before I Have To Get To Work" Tour.
Thanks madchilli (what is it with your caches and water?)

FTF, 2.45pm,
Seen this one yesterday when I got home from work but ignored it thinking it would have been found by one of those ever keen cachers traveling up to the big day out event in the north west,
Who would have thought a day later it would still be waiting to be found,
Mrs 5commer3 wasn't working today and was complaining the other day that she hadn't been for a ride on the bike in a while so we took advantage of the good weather and went for a look,
Have been past here hundreds of times but don't remember seeing the sign before but I did know the old bridge was there,
Found easily coords spot on TFTC,
Took the round about way home and visited my sister at Birrallee and bummed a coffee before going back to Launceston Via Selbourne,
Enjoyed the ride, Enjoyed the Cache, Thanks madchilli
