We love our cemetery visits. Once we located the correct tombstone, we had our info and off to the final.Quick easy find.TFTC
we love cemetery cachesbeautiful old graves here to check outhad some trouble finding henry, our co-ords had us about 40m out we used a photo from another logonce we found our grave the info sent us straight to the final
This has been a long time coming for me. I love the stories that cemeteries hold and with this one being the oldest remaining cemetery it had everything going for it. Except for the soggy ground and mud, that was no fun. Cache was found in a bit of a different spot than noted, but close enough. Nice to tick this one off, thanks richary.
Attempted this one yesterday, found myself at a spot that matched the hint and confirmed with the CO. However, I couldn't spy the cache on this visit, and I will have to revist soon.
Accompanied with ALL7, trip to Sydney for overnight via Parramatta for few caches, good fun multi, Finally spot after 35 mins but not match hint also cache is not good (it is glass) and signed the log and return placed follow hintTFTM
Gday richary, unfortunately I wasnt able to find your cache today (Wednesday 3/4/2024). Thanks for the hunt anyway!
Exciting times over the next couple of weeks as we takeoff for the Capital GeoBash in Canberra! Its going to be a flood of Sandgropers over east, with a host of West Aussies making the trek east for the event. Im travelling with fellow Cockburn Crew members Leg5 and Barnzy12, starting in Sydney and hitting the road to Canberra, before returning back to Sydney. Honourary mention to our fellow member, Cravo10, who couldnt make it after recently introducing a new geocacher to the world the week prior. Once in Canberra, the agenda is set, well team up with a host of Western Australians to conquer caches. Collectively, were hoping to make it the biggest ever weekend for cache finding. Following the event, the journey continues back to Sydney, with a mission to clean up caches and new Local Government Areas (LGAs), ensuring no cache is left unturned in this epic geocaching adventure. Something tells me that well need a holiday after this, well, holiday. Completed the multi and had a decent search at GZ, but like the last cacher, we were unable to locate the cache. We did a quick search of the COs profile and couldnt believe his mobile phone was on the profile, and opted to give it a call. After a further search with guidance from the CO, we were unable to locate the cache. Permission was obtained to make a quick walk over to the shops to obtain a new container, which we have placed at the hint to save the CO a long journey over, and keep this long standing cache alive. Such a great location, with incredible history. The log has been signed as WAC to save space, abbreviation for Western Australia Crew. Cheers richary! Join us in Augusta, in Western Australias South West, for WA Goes Big 2024 (GCAGV8Y) on Friday 20 to Sunday 22 September. Log your will attend now!

Found the final coordinates easily enough but couldn't find the cache amongst all the rocks and undergrowth
Searched a few spots looking for a round stone - which kept me going in circles but couldnt locate. Kept searching anyway and eventually found the hide. TFTC
An enjoyable stroll through this historic cemetery. GZ coords were very accurate. Just as well as the cache was well hidden. TFTC Richary
Having finished both waypoints last week, I had to rush off to work. Came back today when time permits.Found the cache with five fellow TBs: Canadian Flag, Dosenjger, Dog Tag, Piglet Travel and G.N.I.A Travel Tag. Thanks for the find
Found 14/10/23, Logged 30/10/23Walked to Parra from Merrylands for the Laneways Festival and came a bit earlier than my friends so poached this geocache quickly. So suddenly calm and still when entering the cemetery, an interesting area for sureTFTC
On a quick trip to Sydney from Tas and thought wed revisit some of our old haunts. And find some geocaches of course! Tftc an easy find once we found our bearings picked up a trackable to move on which wasnt logged to the cache.
My friend is in a musical near the parramatta area so I came here in the heat beforehand seeking what caches I could find. This one was found safe and sound and the volunteers maintaining the cemetery we’re doing a great job, I explained what geocaching was as I sat down to do my calculations and grabbed the nearby AL waypoint. It’s already heating up to be a super warm spring so I wonder what summer is going to be like TFTC
Today the day off, because there are no football matches for the women's cup. So doing some walking around the hotel
After the nearby earth cache I visited this nice place. Also thanks for showing this. For the cache answers were found easily. For the cache itself needed to be figured out from which side to approach it best. In the end found it nicely tucked away.
And so I also found Australia's Oldest and converted into a smiley.
Richary thanks for the cache. Greetings from the Netherlands .

In Parramatta for a few days of work and the option to keep the streak going. Arrived at 6PM and this was the closest cache (after I did the AdLab stage nearby. Wandered around in the dark finding the waypoints by phone light. The stone walls kept the sound of traffic down and you really do step back in time here. Waypoints were quickly found and with a nice generous hint the cache was quickly found (really don’t like those spiky guardians. Log signed and on my way for dinner.
Been a long time since I have done a cemetery cache in the dark and I really enjoyed this one. TFTC Richary - have a FP for this one

I’m Sydney for a short stay. Planned a geocaching route around Parramatta early this morning. Thanks for putting this multi together. TFTC
Fun multi. Nice history lesson. GPS jumped around a bit but got there in the end. TFTC.
Dodd took a bit to find to find here after working out the first waypoint but then off to GZ and the cache was found easily and is in good condition
Today with a day off work I decided to head out on the train to the base if the blue mountains to Glenbrook and walked down to emu plains through the reserves collecting caches here and there. On my way home I dropped off at parramatta to find the virtual here before heading back home.
Thanks for the cache

Reactivated my seldom used account to join mizmaz and sarah_frances on a lovely winter’s day out around Parramatta. Enjoy visiting old cemeteries, even if the ground is pretty muddy.
Dodging some still very soggy ground after months of on/off rain, collected relevant clues and headed to GZ where my first instincts quickly revealed the hide (even if the last part of the clue didn’t make a lot of sense to SF and C2918). Once the ground dries out, would like to come back and explore more of the history in this secluded little cemetery.
Found It!
An interesting bit of history, albeit a little overgrown. I collected the required numbers then wandered over to GZ and soon found the cache!

Today I had some time to spare as Mrs. Dozzie had an appointment nearby.
Due to Covid19, the cemetery has not seen a lawn mower for a very long time. I wonder why as dead people can not carry the virus anyway.
Waypoint 1 and 2 were quickly found as well as the answers. GZ is a scary place with syringes, bong bottles and little black canisters all over the place. I treaded carefull until the cache was found with a TOTT.

Well, now wasn't THIS the most wonderful cemetery - it is full of history, good, bad, sad and amazing. Glad I read a few logs before going in although my warning radar was already pinging as I approached GZ. There are a syringes in Hep C boxes laying around so used my trusty TOTT pen to move things around while I inspected. It looked like there was someone living of a night at the cemetery but during my time of search no one was around. Cache is dry and safe and log was duly signed after I found it in a place that looked out of place in the setting! Thank you so very much for bringing me here today. SLTNLN
I have been eyeing this for a while now.
I've ridden and driven past this place for years and never noticed..
What a beautiful sandstone wall and beyond the gates it's a nice grass area with a some old graves.
My sister finds it a it spooky, I don't blame her but I see a rich history.
I am so shocked that this prime bit of land has not been hijacked, stolen, bought or whatever by developers.. Amazing.
We followed the instructions and worked together to find the last coords.
If I had a guess where the cache would've been, I would've been right.
Upon getting there I'd found a container which had a syringe poking out and it looked like there was paper in it.
I panicked thinking it was the cache, but I looked a little harder and saw that something was out of place.. Sure enough, my hunch was right and I had the cache.
Signed, replaced

This wasn’t my thing but decided to tag along with DAx for another multi which I don’t have many of. Just an FYI, the black box with the syringe is NOT the cache!!! Neither is the Gatorade bong TFTC

Today we "masked up" and had a day out on public transport, taking a 280 bus to Chatswood and then a T1 train to Parramatta, to do a caching walk around the historic parts of the Parramatta CBD and through Parramatta Park. A Multi, a Virtual, an Adventure Lab, and numerous Traditionals were all on our cache target list. This was the 1st of 13 finds for the day.
We started our caching day with this MultiCache, just a short walk from Parramatta Railway Station. We always enjoy doing cemetery caches, so this one at Australia's oldest surviving cemetery was right up our alley.
Arrived at the cemetery gates to find the place was swarming with gardeners, who were carrying out a major mowing & weeding operation, and we feared we may not be allowed onto the site. But, after doing the computations from the entrance plaque, we boldly opened the gate and headed over to Henry Dodd's grave, trying to look official with clipboard & GPSr in hand. Then over to Eliza's grave for some more computations, and off to final GZ in pursuit of the prize. This part of the cemetery was yet to be mowed & weeded, so we were walking through waist high grass and had to move the grass away from the fronts of the gravestones to be able to read them.
Soon arrived at final GZ and made a nice quick find. TNLNSL, and then replaced as found. TFTC Richary, and you can have a Favourite point for the cemetery placement.

TFTC Thank you for hiding this cache. You have shown us a new place and have helped make geocaching an enjoyable activity. A most interesting location. Great hint. Why is the council not maintaining this location? Because of Covid 19. Fear of infecting the dead?
We hoped to find this cache today, but sadly the cemetery is closed indefinitely. The sign said it was because it was not being maintained due to COVID, and several shopping trolleys and many bags of rubbish were visible from behind the locked gate.
Enjoyed the waypoints but as I honed in on the final one I rounded the corner and spied the end of a mattress. Further to previous finders I didn’t want to risk bumping into a local so turned around and left.
An interesting multi in a cemetary overgrown with long grass (a pity it is not better cared for). Hard to read these very old gravestones. OCW Brewmaker. TFTC richary
After walking through the extremely long grass we eventually found the cache. WP2 was out quite a bit, but eventually found Henry then Eliza. Off to GZ, where I found a needle container and what looks like a homeless person's stuff. The cache location does not match the hint as it was hidden under a brick. Cache in good condition unlike this old cemetery. TFTC
#2221 Found this today while in Parramatta. Had to wade through almost knee high grass as they haven’t mowed due to Covid. Thanks for a great adventure around this wonderful piece of history.
Nice and sunny but still a bit of a cool breeze this morning for this cache.
I was lucky enough to get a parking spot right inside the westfield parking lot entrance so it only took me a minute to arrive at WP1.
As mentioned by the previous finder the lack of maintenance has led to the grass growing quite high but this just meant i had the entire walled off area to myself.
WP2 was some distance away from the coords but finding Dodds grave was located after only a couple of minutes investigation. Unlike some other cemeteries this one isn’t chock full.
The GZ took me a little while to work out. I was initially checking in the wrong spot before i reassessed and found the correct spot.
A great part of Australian history in the middle of the modern city but seemingly overlooked by passers by.
Thanks.

Seeing as I had time on my hands and I was in the general area anyway, I thought I'd go for a stroll through Parramatta Park, try find out where I had gone wrong with the virtual in the park, and then come over here to see Australia's oldest cemetery.
It's a good thing I remember the cache listing mentioning a darker plaque, because the more obvious lighter one is the one I first noticed. However, I checked again and then saw the correct one, picked up the necessary number and entered the new co-ords for the next spot.
The cemetery seems a bit neglected at the moment, but the sign on the gate indicates that the Friends of the Cemetery are not able to do maintenance right now because of C19. I guess the environment feels almost a bit more spooky with all the long grass. Nothing like some of the old burial grounds in the UK, which can be full of stinging nettles, are dark and wooded, and the crows just love to screech, just like in a horror movie.
Anyway, my co-ords led me to spot that didn't seem to have a grave for Mr Dodd. I checked some of the nearby graves, looking for the little brass plaque, but didn't see anything. I even checked how my GPSr felt about the satellite constellation, and it reported a 3-metre accuracy. So I widened my search radius, and then found the right spot. At least I see from a previous log that someone else also had co-ords that were somewhat out. Mine were about 15 metres off according to Garmin.
Anyway, no problem finding Eliza and gathering the next set of numbers. The finals for GZ looked promising, and soon I was within a metre of where I needed to be. I also spotted the mattress and wondered whether I would find someone sleeping rough, but nobody was around. The clue was most helpful, except that the original cover might have been something else to what I found today. But the cache is safe and sound, and it looked like it's been a while since the last finder was here.
Great to see the oldest burial ground in Australia. I love the history of these places. Pity the sandstone hasn't held up to the elements, though, so many of the inscriptions are hard to see or are essentially gone.

It was a hot afternoon and there wasn't much shade in the old cemetery.
I walked in through the open Gates and worked out where to go next. This reminds me more of old cemeteries from the southern US, like in South Carolina. It seems that all over the world, geocachers hide caches in cemeteries. Some towns, that's the only public space people have.
I had to wander around quite a bit looking for the grave marker I needed.the coordinates seemed a little off, but in the end, I made the find and went to the final.
I was a little surprised to see a bed and other stuff indicating someone sleeping back here. I thought, "I could sleep back here, this is a good spot". I was a little concerned however, that the cache might get muggled. I searched, eventually needing the hint, and found the cache.
Pretty cool finding Australia's oldest cemetery.
Thanks for the find.

My last geocaching wander in the Parramatta area was a couple of years ago. I did the trail around the dam, on a day when the temperature was well over the 38 /100+ degree mark - and I got heatstroke. It's a weird disorienting feeling. Luckily, I recognised the symptoms and took early action.
My original plan this visit was to go last Tuesday - but it turned out that this particular day was going to be even hotter, and Sydney was a-blaze with catastrophic fire warnings everywhere. Cancelled.
So today was the day. This multi was my first find. In a most interesting, historical setting. And I am grateful for the generous hints.
Thank you, Richary

Visiting Sydney from Adelaide (back to my roots) and staying near Parramatta. Had to come here after reading about the cemetery and its history. After sorting out the first waypoint, ventured to GZ and found the cache in good nick.
Thanks for bringing me here, Richary.

#5180 1st for today
I've only recently become a professional geocacher (retired), so today was my first day on the job. It wasn't a hugely successful day, but it was deliberately unhurried and being from Canberra, I was happy to enjoy the very pleasant conditions here in Parramatta today. I'll be heading back to cold, old Canberra
tomorrow.
I love cemetery caches and I even own a few in the Canberra region, but this was something special. Amazing to see some of the names on the headstones. It took a while locate Henry Dodd, but quick progress from there. My battery was getting flat by this stage. A quick find in the end, but scared a cat at gz.
Thanks richary

A fun and quick multi in an interesting part of Parra. Coords are a little out for Dodd’s grave but not by far. TNLN TFTC!
Found 2:45 pm with EliteDanski. We are work colleagues and decided to head out today for the exercise and to find the cache. Since this isn’t too far away from the office we were keen to put a smiley and to cross it off. Not really sure why it took us this long to look at this cache.
We headed to waypoint 1 and grabbed the details. Then off to Waypoint 2 after the quick calculation. At Waypoint 2 we found ourselves having to go a little broader and located the target, we both found the coords to be out by around 14m. Then to the next location as instructed. Upon calculating waypoint 3 off we went to where that was indicated. Hmm we searched not only low but high and in as well. This waypoint had us walking around a bit checking different spots. Then after reconsidering the hint and other likely spots, a check of one and I thought could that be matching part of the hint. Brushing some spider web aside and checking something that looked a little suspicious the cache was found. Again the coords seem to be around the same distance difference that EliteDanski and I had noticed earlier.
We signed the log and EliteDanski replaced the cache.
Whilst we did this cache and as we were leaving we spent a bit of time looking at some of inscriptions and noted the children in particular.
We also avoided the homeless fellow who had set up camp near the entrance way.
Decided that I might have a chat to CO about the experience given that Richary is known to me.
Thanks for the cache Richary.

Found the cache after a little exploration of some Parramatta history with friend @MrDamage. Was tough with the overgrown foliage but MrDamage eventually spotted it.
I've been meaning to do this one for a long time, and this current "souvenir challenge" had me looking for caches with favourite points, so today was the day.
I'm still trying to figure out how to use c;geo, it gets me to within a few metres then jumps a long way away, so I'm having trouble closing in on things. Eventually found wp2 after a lot of bouncing around on the gps.
Gave up on c;geo & went back to the GC app to find the cache. What a great graveyard - I was here many years ago for a ghost tour, never been there in the daytime.

I was in the area for work today and thought I would try and solve this multi. All the waypoints were easy to find and I soon found the cache in a likely spot. What a valuable piece of real estate this is! I don't mean in monetary terms, it's value is far greater in historical terms. Thanks Richary for showing me this site. BTW, long time, no see!

An enjoyable quick multi. There was a team of groundskeepers taking a rest, thankfully away from the GZ. Thanks for the history lesson and TFTC!
This cache was just near where p1ccolo had parked the geomobile to meet us in Parramatta park, so we descended upon it before leaving the area.
The second WP took us a little while to find, which is odd because all the grass in the graveyard had just been trimmed so there was nowhere for a grave to hide!
After getting the required info, we made our way to GZ and soon had a cache in hand.
Thanks for bringing us to this cemetery.

I was quite surprised to find Australia's oldest surviving cemetery in the middle of Parramatta.
Wp1 was easy, but Wp2 proven to be a bit problematic as all of our gps seemed pointed us to middle of nowhere. Luckily there were not many places to look. We soon got what we need and walked to GZ. Cache was a quick find after following the hint. TFTC!

First coord out by 9m but description clues good. Thanks for bringing us to such an interesting place dead centre of Parramatta
Found on this quiet Monday with Clevett50. It says there should be a trackable but it’s no longer there. Interesting to learn about the history we would have missed coming here without the cache. Thank you
Ventured west with morty8888 to visit the caches in Parramatta Park and a few nearby cemeteries today. Love these old cemeteries and we have had three today. No problems with finding the WPs or the cache thanks to the generous hint. TFTC Richary
OCW Oldmorty in Parramatta City on a quiet, cooler sprinkly day and we started at this old cemetery which has so much history including people who were on the First Fleet. Had the place to ourselves and had no trouble finding all the info and then the cache. TFTC!

That’s some hot humid day here in Sydney and this multi was the last of the day after visiting parramatta park
It’s midday and only silly tourist or keen addicted geocachers would go on the oldest (quite remarkable) cemetery without any shade where so ever
Found A than over to B where I first stumbled over 2 Elizabeth’s before finding Eliza, juggled the numbers into coords and crossed over to GZ - whaaaaaa Spider Alarm!
Off I went for a cleaning tool and somehow managed to get the cache which is meanwhile hidden behind a standard brick
Too hot to have a proper look around but still impressive to walk on these grounds

Nice and easy one...which is kind of good, because I came to the area without my GPS. I used google maps and it was just accurate enough to get to the spots I needed. Hints help a lot too. TFTC
This was one of two target caches found whilst spending the day in Parramatta. The other was the nearby virtual "The Governor's Domain". Together, these two caches compliment each other perfectly and we could link a lot of the history together.
This cemetery is so well kept and it was very interesting walking around looking at the old graves, although as mentioned in the description, sandstone isn't the best material for inscriptions; very many of the old graves are completely unreadable.
Thanks Richary for showing us this super historic location. Fav point given. TFTC!
Cheers,

Thanks.
I have driven past here so many times without realising.
It was a very restful place and the hunt was very enjoyable on an early spring morning.

Struggled to locate WP1 in fading light, but thankfully after widening the search I finally managed to find the required information and soon thereafter had CIH. SL TFTC Richary!
What a brialliantly maintained cemetery. It's a real credit to those responsible
I'm rather partial to cemetery caches so this one was on my to-do list while I was down in Parramatta today. A pretty straightforward find here since I done the necessary leg work at home beforehand, but since I had had to pay for parking on the street outside, I spent a little time wandering around getting a feel for the history of the place ... and also feeling a bit sad that so many had died so young. Life in the early days of the colony was clearly a tough one!
Thanks for bringing me to this historic place richary, which I'm pleased to see is being maintained in pretty good state unlike, sadly, the other old cemeteries I visited in the area today.

A nice wander down memory lane. I remember coming here on a primary school excursion.

A well kept cemetery with amazing history. Just a little less salubrious around GZ.
Great hunt. Very interesting spot with loads of history. We couldn't find Henry Dodd's grave but took an educated guess to quickly locate Eliza's grave. Worked out the final location and quickly had the cache in hand. TFTC Richary!
Just a quick expedition in Parramatta to pick up a few caches and continue to increase the cache find count.
I have driven past this cemetery numerous times but never once stepped inside the stone walls.
I collected the location from WP1, and completed the blanks before wandering over towards WP2 to gather the next clue. The GPS had me in a location away from the cache description, but I soon discovered where I should be. Once there I grabbed the next bit of information.
I filled in the blanks, once once the GPS showed where GZ should it, it made completed sense. I wandered over to GZ and wondered which side it could be on. I wandered around the back and couldn't see the cache, then looked at the hint and knew where I should have been.
I made the grab, signed the log, dropped two TBs and grabbed the two coins.
TFTC and bringing me to this place of history. Will have to return another time.

Tftc. Parked at Westfield and walked over. Calcs were quickly done and we had CIH very shortly. Dropped some trackables.
A quic find with CheekyB while exploring Parramatta. I never knew this cemetary was here before.

Info collected and cache quickly located I love a simple multi in a great location. Some interesting tombstones in here. I was expecting to see a few of the early parramatta pioneers in here but didn't

A quick trip to Parramatta to grab my daily cache. After enjoying the cemetery cache in North Parra, I had to give this one a go too. With the info quickly obtained at the entry, the calculated coords had me scratching my head. After a bit of exploring, I soon found Henry about 14m north of where the iPhone wanted me. From there, things fell into place quickly as did the discovery of the containers hiding spot, where I added my name to the log. Read through the interesting articles posted near the cemetery entry on my way out. Great piece of history.

24th Australian Cache. An evening cache hunt bought us to this graveyard and I enjoyed reading the historical information sheet. It was dropping dark by the time Wystan eventually located the cache and we would NEVER have found it without the torch on his phone! Thanks for bringing us here!
A great cache to help us discover a bit of history on our visit from the UK. Found with. Mrs Wystan. Thanks.
I had time for one more cache this morning before heading back to the hotel and checking out. There’s no better way to finish of a morning of caching then skulking around a cemetery. I can’t believe I actually mean that.
On the walk to the posted coordinates I got to see a crow carrying a yellow golf ball in its mouth. When I got close for a photo it dropped the ball and squashed it into the grass with its claw. As soon as I walked away it picked it up again and carried on. It was like a Disney animated film.
Time to read some headstones on my stroll when all of a sudden the flies realised there was fresh meat in the house. I had about 10 flies all fighting to land on my head. Normally I would be appreciative of such admiring fans but flies are only as loyal as the freshest poo they can find. They were really getting annoying.
The final was plotted and off to GZ where I looped around before tacking into the hint. I got some relief from the flies here because even they have standards but as soon as I re-emerged I was enemy number one again. I double-timed it out of the cemetery knowing I had been beaten by flies and not ghosts. tftc

OCW Coastblue while in Parramatta for residential school. Great location. It's great to see a cemetery really well maintained. Lots of historical links to the first fleet as well. Cache# 460 TFTC
Sometimes I work in Westfields, and have always looked at this cache but never had time, today I had time. I have lived in the western suburbs for most of my life and have never been here, thanks for bringing here.
In the area for work and this was the closest. Wondered over during my lunch break. Made the calculations and found the cache quickly. TFTC
