Only took a millions tries to get this one. Feels good when you find it. Patience is key
We got it on the third attempt! Previously we had been foiled by the GPS and were looking on the bridge structure itself. Once we found the platform we know we were on the right track.
I couldnt figure out how to access GZ with all the fencing blocking my path. Onwards and upwards
Turning a frown into a smile needed turning very sneaky in getting to the platform however once there I still had to find the cache as last time I was very frustrated in missing out. A great hide and a better find after some scrambling around. Back home to Thomastown, two trains and a bus will get me there.Thank you Robmac.Greytiger.
After all this effort I am going to have to give it a favourite point. Given this was the closest cache to myHouse and one of the first I ever tried to find I just was simply REFUSING to give up. A few things: 1. This is NOT on the pier over the water 2. Do not search in bush (you need to go through some bush to get to GZ, but the cache is NOT in plants)3. Do not go in water4. This area is closed off. You will need to be adventurous to access this. 5. Per robs instructions this IS at a platform which is hidden behind fencing. You dont need to go into the actual construction area. However to access GZ you must go around the green fence, or through the hole in it at the bottom and brave the bushes to access GZ6. This cache is not appropriate for young kids or people going alone at night as the area is desolate and isolated. Technically this is accessible but finding the platform is a tiny bit tricky as you cant see it from the car park. 7. Follow the GPS. The coordinates are accurate. It will lead you to the platform. Once you find the platform as shown in other log photos that is GZ8. Check instructions. I have to now agree Rob has given all information to locate. You dont need to leave the platform but I personally would leave and start in front of it. The cache is there exactly where you think it would be but very well hidden. If you can touch the front of the platform, you can find the cache. Do not give up. Do not venture away. It took me five attempts and I finally found it. Feeling foolish tbh. 9. Check every single part of the platform from the front. Dont overthink. Rob is right theres only so many places it can be and I cannot believe I took so many hours to locate this ?? Thanks for the cache Rob.
Officially giving up. Thanks to CO for instructions. I confirm you can get to the platform but it is hidden to the side and not somewhere one is meant to go. There is nowhere I didnt search. Instructions indicate you can feel around for the cache and eventually find it. Impossible. I searched every inch of this platform and found nothing. While I only have a few finds I used to geocache years ago and never experienced a 1 difficulty cache thats taken three attempts and multiple hours before. The instructions say not to leave the platform yet I searched every inch of the platform above and every place you could conceivably reach and found nothing. Unfortunately giving up. There are plenty of hiding spaces that make more sense than wherever this thing is hidden. Thanks to the CO for all the other wonderful caches around Melbournes west all of which are great. This one is not findable for me. Thanks.
Still cannot find this cache. Standing right in front of the GZ which I absolutely cannot access as there is a construction barrier here. Please can we have a hint as to where we need to search?
Per below screenshot I am standing directly parallel to GZ. the cache must be hidden behind construction gates which are clearly unlawful to access. If its possible to access the cache can some assistance please be provided by CO? If its required to go past the gates then can I be advised. Thanks.
The area around GZ is not blocked off by the current construction. The cache is still in its original location.
Im the tenth person in a row not to find this. The owner needs to ensure this is actually accessible as much of the area is locked off. I have no idea where to search. I am not able to legally or safely access the coordinate point. Logging my first Dnf. Annoyed at the lack of instructions.
Im the tenth person not to find this and the area is blocked off by construction work. Please make the owner fix this
I hope I don't add any dramas about my none find, perhaps I'm tired now after the walk from Footscray station collecting caches along the way. Next time around I'll give you a call for a better hint. Walking back to Yarraville station then home to Thomastown. Thanks a lot Robmc for your caches.Greytiger
The cache is still in it original position, and I do not appreciate it being disabled as in its long life it has NEVER gone missing.
Spent the morning with Chewinprickes on our deadly treadlies completing a maintenance run on the FT and KCT trails. All caches are now in good condition and ready to be found.Dropped into this location to check this disabled cache, only to surprising find it is still in its original hide.Robmc.
The CO will attend to this cache as soon as they are able. The cache has been disabled to stop it showing up on search lists etc., until it can be checked out.
Oh no after my previous find this one escaped me after a long search. I had a seat and reflected on the incident that occurred in 1970. Thanks Robmc.Greytiger
*Tenth Day Of Christmas Rainy Cache Bikearama #13*Why? Cos we're crazy.Only found due to Surefoot's comment. Thanks, team! Thanks heaps for the cache!
With a bit of help from a friend on the phone I managed to locate the cache. I was in the right location, which is a bit isolated and run down now. There wasnt any way I could have found or retrieved it from the platform as the hint suggested. At least I found it and signed the log. Thanks for the adventure!
Found it! All in good dry condition ,left a little bonus for the next finder , took nothing. RIP to the workers ,UP to the Unions
There was a bunch of construction in the areas with works and walled off areas. Probably temporary. I turned back this time.
After breakfast and a CITO a few of us set off on some adventures. The group slowly dissolved after each cache until Brain and I decided to team up for the afternoon and find a few caches. After a few caches we stopped in Lygon St for some pizza to refuel (and some Gelato of course!).
There was a virtual on Brains hotlist so we set off and gathered a few caches along the way. This was one of them while exploring the memorial and taking in the bridge from below. I’ve never admired it from underneath before, although I must say roughly the outer two lanes look like they are just tacked on and I’ll probably aim to drive in the middle a little more on the few occasions that I sue the bridge.
We began searching, under, in, amongst…. Nothing was revealing itself. Then Brain made the sneaky find and set about retrieving the cache so we could place our autographs in the log.
Thanks Robmc for adding this cache to the worldwide collection for us all to enjoy.

Today's events in Fitzroy North had been on my radar for little reason other than they'd be fun to go to.
Turns out, that was a fairly accurate assessment, despite the annoyance of train replacement buses that needed to be caught to get into the city (I'm not sure how I manage to keep landing in their timeframes!)
With a spontaneous helping hand from n0w0rries to get between Flinders St and Fitzroy to attend the first event on time, I spent the rest of the day cruising around with RoamingHowie as we followed the crowd and ended up finding whatever caught our attention after that.
After a chat over some lovely pizza on Lygon St (followed by ice-cream, naturally), RH and I chose the West Gate Bridge as our next destination, mainly to grab a waypoint for the new virtual over this way.
However, we couldn't go past this traditional cache just nearby, so we collected the information we needed for the former of the pair while waiting for a security guard to depart and headed around to the platform shortly after.
It was very thoroughly scrutinised as we went in, around, and under to no avail.
That was until I noticed something a little odd about the design whilst underneath and spotted the cache's hiding place in doing so!
All it took from there was a hand in the right spot, a bit of pulling (the advertised clinging is to be believed) and the logbook was soon ours to sign.
Thanks to robmc for placing this cache here!

This took longer to find than it should have.
The original plan had us likely to head elsewhere, but Rebel Acts was called on to take some keen horse fanatics to Equitania at the showgrounds. He was going to be in the area all day so we decided to meet him as we had been looking for the chance to drop our granddaughter's bike back at her home nearby anyway. We were also joined by Omegaman which led to a fun day with lots of stories and gentle sledging. A great day out that took us to a number of places we had not visited before.
Thank you for your efforts in creating and maintaining the cache Robmc.

Wet logbook replaced and cache returned to where it is supposed to be hidden.

Robmc.
It was an early start to the day catching the 8.00 am ferry from Queenscliff to Sorrento. Mrs Dromaniax had a lecture to attend and we were picking some items up from the Swedish build-your-own furniture store. Mr Dromaniax was also wanting to complete the research for the Virtual Cache we will be releasing into the wild soon.
So a number of caches were targeted over the day to get us closer to several of our goals.
The ferry trip was nice and cruisy as the crossing was quite smooth, almost glassy.
This cache was the final one for the day. We had parked nearby to do some final research on the Virtual cache and noticed the green dot. So off we wandered and soon had the cache in hand. While completing signing duties, a security guard approached us and asked us what we were doing. We quickly replaced the cache and explained that we were geocaching. He seemed happy enough to accept that explanation and we then drove off.
The cache is a little damp, but otherwise in good condition. Thank you for this cache Robmc.

Getting out to cache is getting harder as the kids get older however with one on camp and the other doing homework we grabbed the geo-pooch and hopped in the car.
I have wanted to get over this side of town for a while and today was the perfect day for it.
A quick find. The log is damp however still signable. TNLN. TFTC.

Terrible that so many lost their lives building the bridge but so thankful that the bridge was built. Don't worry about the restricted entry signs...you're not breaking any restrictions. We even had a guy in a security car rock up while we were there and he didn't blink an eye! Gps is all over the place but if you trust your geocaching instincts it's an easy find! Lucky we didn't bring the snowmobiles with us today thanks Robmc for the cache
Forgot to say the log book is soaked...we tried to dry it out a bit but needs a long time. The snaplock bag is in ok condition but it hadn't been properly sealed sadly!
Found it........While we were down in the big smoke celebrating my bosses retirement we decided to collect some caches while in the area. It was decided to take the long road out of the city and pick up a few caches that we had looked at for the history. After pulling up we found some construction signs telling us to Keep Out but being the weekend there was no work going on so we decided to go and pay our respects to the fallen any way. After that we wandered over to GZ and the search started and soon after the cache was in hand so with the log signed and replaced we continued our journey. Thanks Robmc for the cache P.S. we are giving the cache a Fav point
Out with pinnacle333 we were caching in the Yarraville area.
The collapse of the section of the Westgate bridge during construction was a great tragedy. Quick find here, thanks Robmc.

Out with echidna44. What a sneaky little hiding spot! Quick find in a cool location. Thanks Robmc.
With the painting of the bridge causing a lot of ghe access here to be closed off, Vinz though that this one might not be accessible today, however a path was found though to the artifact for a easy grab.
Hard to believe that the monster up there is 50 years old already, it doesn't look that high from the ground but I can't imagine the terror for those poor workers who rode it down on that fateful day, nor those just having a cuppa in the crib room, hearing the roar and knowing they had no escape.
It's a bit sad to think that a lot of those who complain about being stuck in the traffic on the bridge don't even realise that 35 people were killed building it.

Found while waiting for the punt, really quick and easy, found and inappropriate item but got rid of it!
The Geonephews came with us to this one. We had been a few times but turns out they were our lucky charm!
We came here with our Geo-nephews after we went to scienceworks for the day. We had them find ones we had previously found closer to scienceworks. And they were hooked! But the wanted to do ones we hadn't done yet so off we went! We had been here a couple times but during a time when we couldn't get access so it was special for us to find this one with our boys!
Pippy found this one. Very easily. I suspect it might have been moved to an easier spot compared to last time we searched.
Found it after a long search. Was about to give up and was walking off when I saw it! Thanks!
Well Bunadoorian and I tried for this one earlier today but the traffic management people were all here for the works happening above on the bridge. We were on our way back to the car after a few finds nearby and the last of the workers had just left. Lets go and have look now!! Woo Hoo the cache was found in good condition. TFTC and for bringing us here Robmc. This was find 6 for me today. It was nice to finally see the memorial so up close and personal.
Grub62 and I were going to attempt this cache on our way to another but due to the works in the area we were not able to get to GZ. So we passed it by going to the other caches. But as we returned the workers had all knocked off. So we had a bit of a gander to see if it was possible to still access GZ and we were surprised to find access was available. After a short search the cache was found by Grub62. Thanks again Robmc for another nice cache.
To find you need to use the goat track with all the construction works around now, and I’m pretty sure the camera operator would’ve seen me lurking at 3:30 in the morning. But I found dried it out as best as I could and replaced it. TNLN TFTC
Yep the GPS jumps all over the place on this cache.
Re-reading the cache decsription gave me what I needed to find it in the end.
Great hide!!!
And BTW...I had that John Mellencamp song of similar name of cache stuck in my head for the rest of the day.....LOL

I fiddle- f--ted around before arriving at this cache. I agree that the bridge in not kind to the GPS signal. Thanks Robmc
Certainly a lot of tunnel works around, thankfully the workers must have knocked off for the day. I’m old enough to remember the day this happened, glad that there is at least a memorial, we can only hope that work sites are safer.

Happy to have found this after an unsuccessful attempt at the Pumping Station Prior!
Was so focused on the memorial we didn’t see the platform! Once there the previous clues helped us. We did leave the platform to get it. Thanks again RobMC
I was with the kids and there was a lot of rubbish and dubious debris so we didn’t look for too long.
Don't give up! But definitely recommend to leave the platform. I have relatively long arms but it's a struggle to reach. Good job, Rob!
GeoDad strikes again after about 20mins of searching. Definitely need to get off platform and go with your hunch for where you think it might be.
