We had a quick look here after reading the hint and other logs but no cache for us either.
too cold, too wet, too many leaches. Had a short search but didnt have enough patience...
We passed Du Cane hut on our way from Pelion to Bert Nichols/Windy Ridge. The hint seemed pretty clear but we could not find the cache in several obvious and less obvious places.
We had a quick look for it in the obvious spot but didn't see it. Rainy weather and fading light meant our search was rather quick as we had to move on to avoid another evening walking with headlamps.
On day 4 of our Overland Track hike we found this one in the sunshine... lovely weather again! Imagine living here for years..! Thanks for the cache! Unfortunately we discovered this series a bit late, so we missed the beginning Still, nice to find some caches along the loooong way to Lake St Claire.
This was a great hut to stop in at and get out of the rain. The most awesome tour guide gave me some fresh baked sour Dough. mmmmm so good after a week of Mountain bread.

Same trouble as last person GPS was having trouble finding a reading. Found it by clue. Dropped in Australian Coin TB.
I worked out the approximate location of the caches from the previous logs, but when I reached the area my GPS was having trouble finding the satellites, so I located the cache easily using the clue. TFTC.
Day 5 of the Overland Track - OK so we have definitely earned the 5 star terrain rating! Mr Bindel found this one quickly while Mrs Bindel sheltered from the persistent rain in the nearby historic hut to catch her breath. A bunch of trackables visited the cache in the front pocket of Mrs Bindels pack.
Another (slightly harder) cache in this series along the Overland Track. We had fantastic weather all the way and enjoyed all the caches that had been put in. Thanks DBMSP for this series - long may it continue! TNLN.
Enjoyed the hut - but did not realise there was cache there until we were well on the track. Never mind. Next time!!!!
Great location. This hut has some fabulous history and is still in good condition. TFTC
Truly magical place, even in the sun ! Found without my GPSr just with description.
Thanks heaps for the hide!

Love this place and it didn't disappoint. After almost 18hrs sheltering from the elements at Kia Ora, we steeled ourselves to cross flooded streams and tracks turning to rivers to retrieve the cache and ten set off to check out the falls on the Mersey. Such an awesome sight, it was worth the wet to experience the raw power of the elements.
Day 5: Kia Ora Hut to Windy Ridge
After all the rain the day before this day was actually quite pleasant and the waterfalls were huge! Found the cache quite quickly at this very interesting location!

Totally forgot about this one. I remembered about 3km down the track that there was a cache at this hut. It would of been difficult in hindsight, considering that there was about 25 walkers congregated inside and around the GZ. Just gives me am excuse to return, doesnt it
Nice place for a "Psack off" break, which are the best kind. Found pretty quick ... however, there was a girl from Brisbane, that knew what we where up to ... afterwards, we bounced down to the waterfalls. THis was awesome v... TFTC!
Day 5: 12/01/2009 - Kia Ora to Windy Ridge
A day of waterfalls and majestic forests and we were again treated to beautiful clear and cool weather.
After a couple of hours hiking we arrived at Du Cane Hut and the remains of the long gone days of animal trapping. We took a rest in the native gardens planted by the Trapper's wife before collecting the cache and setting off through some of oldest forest in the park with King Billy Pines as old as 2000 years.
After exploring the three main waterfalls in the area, we made our way to Du Cane Gap and then descended down to the Windy Ridge hut beside the spectacular Falling Mounting.
A wonderful day - we'll sleep well tonight!
Cheers, HawMorFords.

A nice easy find on a beautiful part of the track, even with the hordes of chardonnay backpackers on my heels.
FTF!
Very picturesque location.
Someone told me that a large part of the Australian film "The Tale of Ruby Rose" was filmed here. I guess I'll have to hunt a copy down so I can see it now.
I had to wait until muggles had left to replace the cache so I thought I'd visit the toilet - what a view! And so well ventilated. Although cold and wet on a day like today.
