I have joined those who have a sad face for this cache. Walked some way over fairly flat but bushy terrain. After looking as close to gz as I could get there was no sign of the tree or cache. CO needs to check if it is still in tact.
I think this one has been muggled. The hint didn't point to anything near GZ so I think this one is long gone. Pity, it's a great spot.
Today I brought my husband to this part of the Plenty Gorge Park to hopefully find this cache. The walk to the river bank was uneventful and after spending 30 minutes searching around GZ we were unable to locate the cache. We read previous logs, examined likely hiding spots and tried to feel our way through the long grass.
On our walk back to the car we stopped at the ruins of the homestead and thought about how life to used to be before the suburbs encroached on the farmland.
Thank you LEAD SCOUT for bringing us to this location.

Such a beautiful spot and a beautiful walk to get to it! Lots of different birds around. Took nothing but left a little horse eraser.
Decided to skip the Xmas hoo-hah so geo-siss and I took off to explore Plenty Gorge by bike.
After passing thru the remains of Wilton Vale farm, I knew this cache was nearby. It took a bit of searching coz the GPS ended up being 10m away, but we managed to find, sign and hide.
Fantastic area and we had heaps of fun exploring the Gorge today.

Stopped by on a bike ride, Cache had fallen out of tree and was covered with grass, only found it because I stepped on it.
Thought I'd get this one while waiting for an answer to a question about a nearby Cache, but this one was proving difficult too. After checking all the obvious places, I widened my search and suddenly I looked up from my GPS and there it was, about 10m away from GZ. TFTCSL.
After my dnf a while ago, this morning it was a quick find, isn't that always the way! There were a few kangaroos around but not as much as I saw last time I was here. It was a great walk to the cache, and explored the remains of Wilton Vale homestead and surrounds, we couldn't spot the cemetery though.
Thanks for putting a cache down here, a place I would never had explored, and after looking at the parks information it looks like you can actually camp here,so we might come back one night with a tent

Finallllly got it, last time I had no luck and after a good search finally located it. Just in time before the rain kicked in, but still got soaked walking back to the car. Love exploring these areas, it's amazing how much historic places are along the river.
Looked everywhere I could but no luck today, owner may need to check it as this is the 3rd DNF in a row. Probably worked out good as I forgot my pen today ahahaha.
I searched for about 20+ minutes and couldn't find the cache today, it has been a while since this one has been found and I am wondering if it has been relocated further away than intended or gone missing as there is plenty of signs of people working/walking through the area and quite a few animal holes that have had sticks placed in them so that you don't fall down them. I will keep a watch on this one.
A long jog into the cache, but I found it some distance from the posted coordinates. Over 200 kangaroos frightened by my presence. TFTC.
Rode in here and passed about 100 kangaroos, some of the males are huge. Had better luck this time found cache signed log and then chilled out. Gets a fav from me.
Thanks leadscout for sharing this place.

Tftc, no pencil so was unable to sign the log.
GPSr was all over the place but my geocacheing eyes soon spotted the generous cache.
And what a fascinating area.

Made the approx 1km walk in from Wilton vale rd late this sunny afternoon. Must say it was a very nice walk in, most scenic area I have been to in a while. Once at gz found there has been lots of planting and weed mat put down. Found cache about 10m from gz coordinates. Log is becoming a bit soggy, will need a new log and zip bag shortly. tnln. tftc.
Had a few issues finding this one, it was 11m away from the coordinates listed, perhaps in part because it had fallen from its hiding place. I replaced it into the place it should have fallen from, but am not entirely sure whether that is where it should be. The cache & log were damp, and the cache rather difficult to open due to some dirt being wedged between container & lid.
A very nice place and a lovely walk, saw a large mob of Eastern Grey's on the way out. TFTC lead scout!

enjoyed the walk thru old farmland trying not to upset the locals. looked for a while but didn't see it not sure if workers laying weed mats for tree planting may have found it.
I enjoyed the walk in to this cache site, I don't have a bike to cart around so it was either a long walk or no cache at all. There were kangaroos in the distance in most directions, a fairly warm day and the dry grass meant it was a comfortable stroll. Eventually I was at the cache site and I needed to get about 10m east to find the cache.
Much longer than expected but a beautiful walk. A group of kangaroos is called a court and court was definitely on session today!
21:00
The sun was getting quite low as I parked at the end of Wilton Vale Rd, a familiar spot courtesy of a couple of homerjay hides. Speaking of which... time to help clear out the geo-trash. A slight detour and I was in possession of a slightly worse-for-wear fake rock. Who knows, maybe it'll crop up somewhere else one day.
I really enjoyed the walk down to the river's edge, but I don't think the kangaroos were impressed with my being there. It was starting to get a little dark as I reached GZ, so I was worried that this could be a protracted search, but I'm not too proud to check the clue, which narrowed the search a little, and a comment about distance from the GPSr's coordinates gave me the final nudge in the right direction.
Ooh, an echidna... hello, mate. It's a shame the phone cam doesn't have a flash.
The final bonus of the evening walk was discovering that I'd parked just outside the brightest-lit Christmas decorations in the street.
Thanks for a great way to spend a warm summer evening, LEAD SCOUT.

A long walk down here on s pretty warm today, through some thick grass with a couple of puffed out pups. I love these hard to reach places though. Tnln tftc!
logging this find from many months ago. this one took us a long time as my GPS couldn't get good reception. we spotted at least 5 potential GZ locations before finding the right one.

Find # 2118
On our normal weekend caching run, SedgwickDave and I were first heading towards Yarra Glen, then doing a bit of a loop via Christmas Hills, Kangaroo Ground, Hurstbridge, Yan Yean, Mernda, Plenty and South Morang. It was a cool morning, but most of the afternoon was beautiful and sunny.
After finding the other nearby cache, we found a gap in the fence which saved us a few hundred metres of leg work. it was then a bit of a meander across the open field, seeing many good things on the way, including a couple of large kangaroo mobs as well as the remains of an old farmhouse and a large concrete water tank and an out of place Palm tree. We eventually arrived at GZ and after a bit of a search the cache was found although the GPSr had us about 10m away.
Thanks to lead scout for the cache and the adventure, TNLN. A favorite for the day.

Found @1421 #1960
On another epic cache run today with caching buddy ahomburg. We had run this route before which is Yarra Glen then west towards South Morang and everywhere else in between. A good numbers today with 30 found in total and a few DNFs. An awesome day with a cool start and the forecast rain didn't eventuate so it was a rather nice and sunny at times.[^]
Well after crawling under the fence near the other cache only to spot an easier spot not that much further down the fence line.[:o)] It was a really nice pleasant walk of about 600m passing a mob of kangaroos and checking out an old farm or what was still remaining. Once finally at GZ it took a few moments to spot the hide which today was about 10m out. A nice spot for a cache. A good walk in and out. Nice views too. The palm tree was an odd sight to see near the farm. A fun cache. TFTC Lead Scout, left blue gem stone.

Found it after about 20 mins, gps took me the longest possible way.. Painful.. I replaced the cache in the tree as per the hint.
Wonderful day for a walk. So many Roos about-it always makes me smile when they pop their heads up and watch you walk by. There was a bit of a boxing match going on with a few of them but mostly they were just enjoying the sunshine. There was a big wombat burrow near GZ, lots of rabbits and plenty of rosellas about so come on people, it's not that big a walk. Thanks for showing me your campsite.
Parked at the end of the street and begun the walk to gz. Saw many roos along the way. Had a little trouble locating the cache as the hint is totally inappropriate. Used geo-senses and eventually found the cache. Glad to get this out of the way. TFTC.
Great walk in. Loved the farmhouse ruin and well. Cache wasn't camoed but then I guess it doesn't have to be. Couldn't rely on the gps, had to hone in using my current co-ords. TFTC
On 2011/2011 date found this one together with nadya. A very nice and enjoyable walk to the GZ in the beautiful park although it included some walking without any trail and I was happy that I wear my sturdy bushwalking shoes. The cache itself took some time to find but really wasn't that hard. Logbook was a bit wet but not soaked wet, i.e. writeable.
But tricky this one.... Lots of grass seeds to pull out of socks and had a scary encounter with a couple of BIG daddy kangaroos.... We will try for this one another day.... Maybe aproach from different side of the river!
03/07/2011 11:25 Found: #539 1of2 I have been on a night cache hunt sometime back where a male roo got too close for my comfort. So I took the opportunity to collect a couple of caches that are deep in this park but entering in daylight. Arriving at GZ I looked about for an obvious hide but found none. Checked the clue but that didn't help until I looked at the previous log. Many of the trees here seemed to have been broken, perhaps in the floods a few months back? The cache was found in a more traditional location now at ground level. TFTC Lead Scout TNLN SL
Took a few hours to get to this one, on account that we were on the wrong side of the river at first, 30 meters away....? Walked along the river for a bit to try and find a place to cross, not being keen for a swim. We eventualy turned back to the GU and attacked the site from the right side this time. Great spot glad we came here for this cache. Found on the ground covered in grass not in the tree as the clue suggested? Just put it back where we found it.
{79} Found with GeoDad @16:00, who insisted we had to walk along the river to get there. Possibly the longest 900m of my life, but we made it eventually & took the tracks along the soggy/muddy/squishy paddock on the way back. TFTC!
11.05 Out and about with 80 degrees today and the sun is out but not hot. What else could you want, but a list of caches to be done(created by Mrs 80), Mr X behind the wheel and the support team rearing to go. We have been avoiding this one for a while as we thought it may entail a little walk (we are not the bike riding kind). We put this one on first and we are still fresh and energised. We had a meeting and decided to spilt the tforces, the support group would do the walk and the directors would tackle another one nearby that the xambo's had not done. Mr 80 and Mrs X took off, which way best to go round those whistles? Having negotiated that bit we decided to go straight for it. Having exchanged pleasantries while the local kangaroos we found ourselves in the wet area. Now the feet were wet, what did it matter. We got a glimpse of the formed track so we decided that was the better option. Although nothing seemed to be around all was not quiet. Trail bikes suddenly came from around the crest and remote aeroplanes were soaring noisley in the air. After a 20 mins walk we discovered the campsite, nicley tucked near the water. Glad we were on the right side.!!! Spotted the cache instantly, nice and dry and in excellent order resting on the ground. Not much of worry that that some passer by would discover it.
A quick register of our visit and started back, taking in some history on the way. Thanks for the cache, we enjoyed the walk

Found at 11.00am Out and about today with xambo4u on a mission to clear out some that we hadn't had time for on previous occasions. This one had been left because of the long walk required. Today Mrs x and Mr 80 where upto the challenge. The cache was found and they reported the walk was an invigorating start to the day. TFTC
two days in a row I have been unable to locate this cache some previous log entries say that is was on the ground as there is a lot of new grass growth i guess maybe it has been reclaimed by nature
Its walks like this that I wish I didn't do weed control. It was horrible, just a mass of weeds. Thought the terrain rating could be a little higher. Cache was out in the open and with no obvious signs of where it should go, I left as found. TFTC TNLN
After trekking in yesterday on the wrong side, we rode our bikes in today and with a bit of messing around while the GPS settled, found the container on the ground at 1:00pm Replaced it in crook of nearby tree as contents were damp. TNLN TFTC
Located @ 1745 hrs on a very hot day to be out walking. Second try at this one, approached from wrong side of plenty river last time. Thanks for the cache LEAD SCOUT.
Plenty of running water and birdsong provided a great soundtrak while making a short search. Left as found, on the ground.
Thanks for sharing this area with us Lead Scout - its an area that I have never paid any attention to before. Thoroughly enjoyed the walk in and around the area despite some inclement weather. Definitely an area to re-visit and explore. I took your advice and spent a while enjoying the peace and quiet. However by the look of the motorbike tracks nearby, it would not always be as peaceful. Pity about that.
Found cache on the ground but could not work out where and how to hide it as per the clue so left it as found.

This one was on the ground rather than in the suggested place, but since I didn't know where it should be, I left it where I found it. A nice little side trip while attempting (and failing at) Patrol Route Alpha, although the midges were really bad.
We enjoyed the walk to GZ where the cache was soon located, i wondered how long it will be before the urban spread gets closer to this location. Thanks Lead Scout for the cache.
The sun shone virtually the whole time we did this cache, on a lovely winter morning. Cache was found easily enough and the campsite certainly has some attractions. Won't be long before its surrounded by houses though!
So what you are saying, is that you haven't camped here?
A nice spot by the river. The wattles are growing very quickly in the soft soil.
Thanks, Robmc.

We found our 17th Lead Scout cache at 4:10pm as the 19th of 23 on our Tour de Mernda with Pprass. Whilst doing another local multi, we diverted off to pick this one up. Lucky we did as we thought originally that it was going to be on the other side of the river. Thanks for the cache from D & H B-A.
Found at 4.10pm GAFF5 in the company of Rabbitto. This cache was found while completing the Patrol cache and all agreed that it would be a fantastic camping spot. Thanks LEAD SCOUT.
Find # 2808 and 6th of the day at 1:58 pm. Accompanied by Iain from the Swaggies.
Got this one while legging the waypiont for another cache, easy find, didnt read the clue so we didnt look up. TNLN, Signed Log , Thanx Lead Scout....

Found whilst doing laps with Patrol Route Alpha. Interesting area for sure, but not much room for bringing the Winnebago to camp! They won't let us through the gate!
Thanks Lead Scout.
Thanks Lead Scout.
Was intending to get back here sometime and do this and another nearby but I didn't quite expect it to be this weekend. Ended up here helping Oenze with a breakdown (his vehicle, not himself), and therefore took the opportunity so to speak. Was a lovely afternoon for walks in the park anyway so it couldn't have worked out better. Lots of model aeroplanes buzzing about this arvo too.
Thanks Lead Scout

I brought my mountain bike with me on this trip for the main purpose of tackling some of these longer walks. I tossed a coin to start with on whether I should find this one or the second waypoint for PATROL ROUTE ALPHA. Looks like I should have gone after that one first!
The terrain on the bike was bit rougher than I was expecting, and even more difficult whilst trying to hold a GPSr in one hand! I found the cache on the ground like previous finders so I left it there. It seems to be protected enough from any potential muggles.
Thanks,
R - B

My experiences here tend to echo maccamob's - I too found it on the ground and replaced it at the base of the nearest tree. As maccamob had done this too, only a few weeks back, it must have moved again - maybe the local wombats are taking an interest in it! An interesting area - which I saw a fair bit of as I did this one while taking the tour of "PATROL ROUTE ALPHA" - it looks as though it must have been an early selection and was cleared for farming/grazing. That looks like an impressive old cistern out in the middle there and I guess there was probably a house at some time or other too.

Thanks again Lead Scout

Found by Mary & David at 1725. The longest walk we've had so far today, but well worth it. Kangaroos everywhere as we passed the old windmill. Some magnificent trees in the area too. Looked around GZ for a while before spotting the cache on the ground. Quite a few dead trees and braches down all around GZ, so that may explain it. Replaced the cache in the base of the nearest standing tree. Despite its camo, it does stand out against the background, but it doesnt look as though too many muggles come in here. Our thanks yet again to Lead Scout.
It was a logical move to make my way to this cache next and after another walk featherdown and I found the campsite. I stepped back to allow featherdown some hunting experience and we eventually got there, thanks to spot on coords.
Thanks Lead Scout.
Thanks Lead Scout.
This cache formed the second leg of our lengthy walk across the grasslands.
Quite glad to get out of there without seeing any snakes and the retrieval of the two caches made it all worthwhile too.
Thanks

Having just nabbed an FTF nearby, I headed here to try my luck. I had a bit of trouble finding this one and really widened my search pattern but to no avail. Eventually, I returned to within a metre or so of the given GZ and lo and behold, there was the cache at 08:55 for our 29th STF . Gosh, who would have thunk it .
