After a fun weekend away in Stanthorpe for a couple of events and a handful of caches, it was time to head for home. I decided on taking the back scenic route that I had not traveled before.Driving to GZ I was wondering what could be a chickens nightmare. Then I saw the name of the river and had a giggle. Yep, that would be a nightmare. Parked up and went were the compass was pointing, container in hand without a hassle. Afterwards I went for a short stroll down to the river, very pretty down there with so many little fairy wrens Thanks for the cache ParisDac
Full time Nomads, travelling around Australia since 2014. Staying in Toowoomba while the caravan is in for repairs in Burpengary. Today we headed south for a visit to Team Robins. A pleasant drive in the countryside stopping for a cache or 2 along the way. TFTC ParisDac
Spending a few days in and around Warwick to assist with an attack on the Condomine caches, visiting Leyburn area caches as well as a day trip to Killarney and Legume villages. Placed one cache while there as well!Planned for this adventure following Dunmowin's event earlier this year and thought October might be best time before the summer heat but little did we know we would have at least 3 days of 34+c temps as well as smoke haze.
This was a quick cache to find and the log was signed. Its always good sometimes to find a quick cache when you are out and about. TFTC
After a great weekend climbing mountains in Northern NSW, I made way home detouring via this one first.
Passed a few cattle on the road in and then made a quick find at GZ.

After spending the weekend at Queen Mary Falls I drove down here to collect this oldie for no other reason than it was here…
A really quick find while enjoying the view… tftc…

On patrol with Buggy Squires - a gnome - six inches high but with all the pent up aggression of a 6ft human. Proceeding along Maudlin Bridge shaking hands with doorknobs making sure all the shops are shut right when we catch a would be thief. From the looks of this one he’s not Guild licences! Scraggly red bear showing signs of grey. Could almost rival Rincewind’s. He was so engrossed in the act of trying to break in that I managed to get right behind him before quietly whispering ‘you’re nicked son!’. Well it was easy enough to get him back to the watch house after that. He jumped so high he knocked himself out on the lintel. I did have to call in Bluejohn to carry him back up to Dolly Sisters though.
On the drive to queen Mary falls we decided for a quick stop and retrieve. This was a nice quick find. TFTC
A nice easy find. We covered new territory for us by travelling from Woodenbong to Tenterfield via Legume, Cullendore, Liston Bookookoora and Boonoo Boonoo. Only 2km of smooth dirt road just south of the cache before Cullendore and another 5 km near Bookookoora. Good bitumen everywhere else. Made a brief stop for an afternoon cuppa at Bald Rock N.P. just 5 km off the road (all bitumen) but a threatening thunderstorm meant we will hold off the 800 m walk to the base of Bald Rock for another day. We added a 2nd toy soldier to the cache. Thanks for placing it here. Undercover Duo
Mr D wanted to go for a drive, borders are now open, so lets do some border hopping. We sat down and chose a route, packed the picnic bag and set off.....
Been wanting to make this drive since we moved to Warwick 6 months ago, but with borders being close, I doubt if the border patrol officers would allow us if we just we were geocaching. So for the first time since March 2020, we made a border crossing and found this cache.
Looking for some where for lunch, "down there" would have been great, but did not want to take our little subi "down there", so we continued our drive along the beautiful Mt Lindsay Road, in search of a suitable spot to eat our lunch.
Thanks for the hide, a nice easy one at a pretty location

I see why this would be considered a lovely local beach.

First find for the day driving from Woodenbong to Stanthorpe along this quiet stretch of road. Didnt get passed by a single car as we wandered to ground zero, checked one side then the other making the find. Still no cars passed as we checked out the small amount of water flowing beneath.
A nice stop off with a decent view, a good way to get started for the day. My thanks go to the CO for the placement.

Out for a drive with Bunadoorian and Geonana and Geopop after visiting the Queen Mary Falls café for lunch. We enjoyed seeing this countryside and it being green and in spots raining! An easy find in the normal hiding spot. Easy to walk from where we parked the car as there was no traffic around. TFTC and for bringing us to this lovely spot - ParisDac
A nice hide in a standard type of place . Found in good condition while passing by. TFTC.
Needs Maintenance: as per previous DNF logs I came prepared. I checked the entire area and it was not to be found. I shall contact CO
Many years ago when working for the Water Resources Commission (70/80"s) We gauged the flow / volume of the Maryland River... ps the structure the southern side of the bridge is /was a gauging station?? That records the height of the water in the river !!) Thanks ParisDac
Locals know this area as Marylands, the only place for miles to swim at a "beach". Tftc!
We decided to take the scenic route home to the Gold Coast from Stanthorpe. At first we were looking on the wrong side of the road but Mr. Herbz crossed over and made the find, however, he did get seriously covered in cobblers pegs whilst replacing the cache! All nice and dry, just like the creek below! TFTC

out and about in the Granite belt so I thought I would grab some caches while in the area. TFTC
What a beautiful river, bridge, spot to stop. I cant believe the brak water and beach sand. Tftc. ( i dont know anyone in oz using the term Armco!)
This cache was visited whilst participating n the Cycle Queensland 2017 Adventure Tour - Goondiwindi to Currumbin.
I took some time to admire the bridge structure. The ride in and out of here was interesting. I was a chicken on the downhill run.
Thanks for the cache ParisDac.

Second to find today. I bet the previous finder today was one of the bicycle riders we passed along the way. It has been a while since the previous find in April. Interestingly, this bridge was built by the Main Roads Dept in 1930 when this road was part of the main highway between Brisbane and Sydney. Added name to the log and replaced. TFTC.
A quick find with The X-Trailers. Staying in Killarney for a few days so caching around the area. TFTC
Great view down to the river from GZ
Geo hubby dropped us off to locate the cache while he parked on the other side of river in a safer spot
Can see how much water has been thru the rivers recently

Found today with Hedgehog's spoon and Plus Elle from Calgary Alberta Canada. Quick find on our trip from Mount Warning to Ballandean. Surprised it was first find in over 6 months. Darwould and Plus Elle.
Caching on the way home from Sundown National Park to Brisbane. Decided to take the scenic route- so many caches hard to decide which ones to pick. This one sounded interesting and we made the quick stop. Reasonably easy find but a little hard to find safe pullover spot close by (falling rocks signs were a bit onimous) TFTC.
Took a drive over the border and did some caching, geomum nearly had an epic fail when the logbook slipped out of her hands right next to GZ, luckily it didn't go over the edge. Nice little river with sandy shores. Thanks for bringing us here.
Out for the weekend to get a few finds and this one was on the list. We love this area and glad to get another smile. Thank you for bringing us here. TFTC

Having attended a wedding at Mount Annan, in NSW, we were halfway back to QLD.
This was the final run for home & we wanted it to be a good one!
It was time for a few more caches. LOL ...
Closing in on GZ, getting nearer when, all of a sudden, a kangaroo burst forth from amongst the roadside tussock grass & shrubbery.
I hit the skids & the roo shot across the road unscathed.
Just as I let out a sigh of relief, mere nanoseconds later, it's mate slammed into the rear left side of our almost stationary vehicle taking out the rear left cargo window of the 4WD.
Wow!
Geocaching can get pretty intense! LOL ...
Jokes aside, caches along here should be rated a little higher just for the roo hazards!
The roo took off, apparently not too badly off for our encounter, leaving me looking at the smashed glass.
Got back in the beast & proceeded to GZ.
Chicken's Nightmare, hmmmph.
All I have to tackle here is oncoming traffic, that's nothing!
Grabbed the cache, signed & replaced as found.
Took 2 x TBs for our trouble!
TFTC ParisDac
P.S. Luckily our insurance covers glass breakage at NO COST to us!

Captain Terror and I were on our way home from Stanthorpe, we decided to take a different route to our normal 'home through warwick' drive and the Captain pulled over at the end of this bridge and told me that he was pretty sure that there was a cache here.
We wandered over and yep sure enough there it was. I headed back to the car and out of sight of the muggles down the hill to sign the logbook and placed a couple of trackables out of the Captain's inventory. Then with the container replaced it was time to continue out trip home. Thanks for the cache ParisDac.

cache find #3393 A quick find on our way to Tenterfield to see the snow. TFTC.
Now we know what the chicken nightmare is all about and chicken or not we were going to find the cache. We got off lightly, nothing came the whole time we were there. A very inviting sandy spot to have lunch down by the river but it didn't look the ideal location to take a camper so we did chicken out on that. TFTC ParisDac.

Day 6 of the QLD MEGA for me.
After a fabulous loong week-end it is time to go home.
So after packing the car and saying the good bye's I was off towards home.
I am taking the scenic way home.
This one took a little time as my phone kept changing GZ and a dose of cache blindness did not help.
Thanks for the cache.

We were heading home form the Mega Event and decided to take a different route through Woodenbong and picking up a few caches along the way.
We parked at the bottom of the hill and I walked back. Luckily there was no traffic while I was there so I had a quick find.
Lovely views of the beach and rapids below. Quite a bit of water after the rails of the last few days.
TFTC. Although the maps do show that the cache is in NSW.

headed out to Killarney today and decided we were going to get this cache no matter what. I thought I had an idea when it was but no I was wrong it was 10km behind us. Oh well we get it on way back.
very busy on this road today. the boarder range trail ride was happening so we had to beware of bike riders around Legume.
2 motorbikes and a ute went by while we signed the log so we stood , leaned and viewed may things. Not much creek today, a choko growing in the creek was a bit interesting too.

Almost dusk and bitching cold. Thought it might be ruined as there has been a fire right up the side but all safe and sound
Why did the chicken cross the road?? To get to the cache or because he didn't have spell check. Geloze waited in the car with geomutt whilst I grabbed this one. No traffic insight. TFTC
Heading down to Bald Rock for a stroll in the park today and tomorrow. I had time to collect a few strays along the way.
The name of this cache has many possibilities, apart from the one it is most likely named for. The bridge is almost narrow enough to qualifiy. It was quite the drive to get to this one. Not for chickens either.
I was glad for a break in the drive. A few cars passed as I was hunting, but nobody even slowed to look .

Spent last night camped down on the gravelly beach and it was very quiet. Until this morning when the huge trucks started barrelling past. If you think it is a chicken's nightmare (with an 'h' in there) when they can fly across the road imagine what it was like for us with the trucks racing by. Could be in a safer spot but without traffic it may be ok. A quick found. TFTC
Had intention to find but it is 35'C and I'm in full motorbike kit so 100m was too far to walk. Will come again another day.
This is one of those caches. One that appears on the map, but always seems to be out of the way for the planned trip. Well today, Fangsoki and I decided to make whatever detour needed to tick it off. We started from Stanthorpe, but rather than go through Liston (surely the smarter route) we went via Warwick as the TomTom suggested.
After our drive, we arrived near GZ to another car, but the muggles were picnicking down by the river and no threat to us. We parked and legged it about 100m to the cache. A bit of a poke around and Ahuh! I've got it. As we added our names to the book, we had a bit of a look at the bridge, 1930's vintage. All sorted we headed off to see what other far out caches needed us today. TFTC ParisDac

This cache had always eluded myself and Captain Terror.. always being that "a bit too far out". We eventually pulled up about 100m from GZ and made our way toward it.
Captain Terror came up with the goods and we signed the log. The cache is in good condition. We returned it to its home when there was a break in the traffic. TFTC ParisDac

Our last day of caching around the Stanthorpe area, and heading off back to Bribie Island, but via Wodenbong instead of the usual way via the Cunningham Hwy.
Found this one at 1205. The river was nicely running, sending up a pleasant babbling brook sould, reminiscent of some of our cache finds in Tasmania. You have to love the humour, intentional or not, of the mains roads workers on NSW. Falling rocks- Do not stop. Well of course they dont, until they reach the bottom.
Cheers

Returning to the Gold Coast we decided to take a different route today and came for this cache. We drove across the bridge and parked in front of the zebra sign for a quick find of the cache. All is good with it. It's clean and dry. Thanks for placing it here ParisDac to lure us home via this road and some caches and places we otherwise wouldn't have known about. What a lovely sandy stretch of the river here. It looks like it would be a great place for a picnic and a swim.
"Mummy Chippy" found this one , almost straight away. Lovely spot, good spot for swimming or picnic. Watch for cars, but very little traffic. Took crocodile keyring, left wet wipes (gotta stay clean )TFTC
Originally sent geokids to grab this but as we saw them moving further from where we though cache would be we sent them back to car and geoparents took over. Did not feel at all comfortable having the children at GZ. TFTC ParisDac
Quick find with no traffic at 1000. The road is windy but it looks to me as if all the Dirt sections will be bitumen sooner rather than later. Drove across the bridge and virtually parked at GZ. TNLNSL TFTC ParisDac
My shadow went out on his one to find this one. He took a little longer so I went to help him find it. The scenerty of the river below was beautiful and the cache was found a little further than the co-odds indicate. TFTV ParisDac.

Dropped by today to check on this one as it was in a pretty poor state last time.
I noticed someone had replaced the log book as the previous one was completely ruined.
Still had the same old container though with a hole in the bottom corner letting water in.
Luckily I had a new container in the car. I replaced the old Plastic Jar with a new (small) Sistema container and also provided a new ziplock bag for the log book. I removed the old swaps that were wet and mouldy and disposed of them at home.
Left a few coins as swaps for the next finder.
Cache is now in good condition and the requires maintenance can be removed by the owner.
Cheers
