After a failure earlier in the day at Backdoor Pipeline, re-entry ventured out again once the morning storms had blown through. Enjoyed this little urban bush adventure. The main stream is running high after all the rain. Could not see the hide anywhere once at gz so checked the hint. Happens I was almost standing right on top of it. Rewarded with a rainbow once I re-emerged into suburbia. TFTC
On the north shore today and as we needed a cache of the day, MrNZT was sent in to complete this cache. He soon realised that the caching jandels weren't going to be up to the task so he was soon back at the car for a change of footware. Off he went again and approached from the Burnsco side of the stream to make a quick find , despite the blood letting at GZ! Good sized cache and everything in good order. TFTC!
Well....this was an adventure I didn't expect in the middle of a business area and now not surprised it hasn't been found in so long. After not finding the easy way in (had looked on Google maps satellite view a few days ago - obviously quite out of date) I walked around the area and decided to get nearby cache first. Coming back I figured maybe I should just take the plunge into the bush. A minute later found myself on a bank overlooking a stream that appeared fairly deep. Looked both ways and saw the tunnel under the motorway was almost water free - also had a lot of roadworker stuff around. Was debating whether to go that way when 2 workers suddenly appeared. Guess I was looking too suspicious. So having been sprung I told them what I was about and they kindly saw me safely across to the other side. Phew. Then an inordinate amount of bush crashing before getting close to GZ. Misread the hint for some reason, GPSr jumping a wee bit, hot and sweaty - but after this effort didn't want to give up. Glad I stuck at it. Made the find and, much like previous log found my way out without crossing water. Wish I'd gone in that way!!!!
Definitely at least a 3 terrain what with the overgrowth. Thanks (?!) for the cache...now for a few easier finds (here's hoping) before needing to pick up daughter and friends who are shopping nearby.

Made this one real hard for myself ended crossing the stream TWICE fell down one bank and plenty of unnecessary bush bashing but all very good fun. Once the log was signed it was a straight forward walk back to the road with minimal bush bashing and no stream crossing ???. Have to make this one a favourite.
I needed one more T3 cache for a challenge so this was the goal of my caching afternoon. Got to within 23m of the cache and started feeling confident..."Well there's your problem, a step bank and a creek to cross!" Tried to circle around to find a less step spot where I could cross...hmmm creek seems wider here and I suspect will require multiple crossings to get to the cache. Nothing for it, back to the step bank. Managed to get down with only one slip. Found a good spot to cross and went straight to the cache. Cheers for a little urban adventure!
Second day of the NZ Mega event - a day which saw KiwifruitsNZ aim to hit the 1900 cache mark and help MuzzaL53 get to his 1000th cache. Throughout the day, we were joined by Kiwinomad, Marchwood, LostCourse, Vamber and alpenmilch80.
This cache deserves a higher terrain rating as we spent several minutes bush bashing our way to the area indicated by the hint! Maybe we missed a path but we were certainly made to work for this one!

Mega 2013 Sunday. Great day with other cachers. Took the long way around but got it in the end
Auckland Mega Event 2013. Sunday and a fantastic day of caching planned alongside KiwifruitsNZ with the objective of reaching my 1000th find during the weekend. This was find # 1003. Took a real bush bash but got there with benefit of good use of hint and cache name. TFTC
Having gone for a quick look before & failed to 'choose the right path', I came prepared. We'd tip-toed round the fringes but this time I was not to be diverted. I took a bearing, put on a hat & hoodie & charged straight through flux & tea tree to get to the goal.
Yet another of these groovy places you'd never see & will probably never see again.
Thanks for the cache

This was a tricky wee place to search through ......the cache name and the hint helped though ....
Took a bit of a search to find the right entry.

I thought this one was going to be easy, a simple drive by with a walkway to GZ, well, not quite. Luckily for me it seems I took the right "path" and did not have to cross any stream to reach GZ , nice camo TFTC
Visiting a client across the road so decided that today was the day.
Came in from the right side, GPS showed still 30m away, crossed over to the other side, got there GPS showed now 25m back the way I'd come.
Back I go to where I had set out from and now the GPS was playing the game. Soon in hand with more effort than was required
TFTC and great now that it won't be teasing me any longer

Finally found it. First attempt I ended up on the wrong side of the stream. Second attempt I ended up on the wrong side of the other stream. Finally got it third time around.
Have driven past here, on the speedy side of the fence a number of times but today was the day I would have a go at this one. Not sure I came in from the correct side as I had to cross the stream, but no problem as is was just a trickle so I could step across. Looks like it has recently been flooded though. The colour? I suspect it's just the base clay colour as both stream beds are that colour. Anyway, quick find at GZ - good to have it ticked off. TFTC!!!
Easilly found after sighting a way in. Nice camo. Area has been well planted. Stream on left is a really yucky orange. Not sure what causes this but doubt that the Indian restaurant up the road is responsible. TFTC.
One last cache for the night before heading in doors and drying the boots. I tried pretty hard to collide with at least one of the streams - eventually after circumnavigating the whole area I found the right way in - 30m back from where I parked! Neat "just off the road" sort of spot. TFTC.
Finally ticked this one off - Mrs GM surprised it hasn't been found much earlier due to proximity to Supercheap!!
Found the right way in on 2nd attempt. Approached with caution as I was in my work (good) clothes. Luckily I was able to avoid getting too wet or dirty despite the recent weather up here. Nicely camo'd o course. TFTC, Biggles.

Interesting location. Never would have seen this little spot otherwise.
Initially approached from the wrong side of the stream and then figured out the correct approach.
Cache in good order.

Second Visit to this cache, Was driving past this one tonight, while explaining geocaching to someone, So decided to stop and demonstrate. TFTC. Out GC
Out with Cabhassett and Brook Vader this afternoon, our last find for the day. Didn't know this little oasis of peace by the motorway existed. TFTC
Out with Cabhassett and Hastingus in NZ. Didn't know this little area existed. Nicely planted. TFTC.
found with mondoolix. FINALLY MANAGED A FIND ON THIS ONE! both times i have come at this from the wrong side, so involved a fair amount of climbing over/through streams. couldn't believe the simple way out of this once at gz. probably would've been easier if the gps had been turning on! tftc at last =)
What a lovely little hidden gem! Nice to see that someone has put in lots of effort and has recently planted lots of new trees leading to GZ. Big Fuzzy's guess on the colour question is that there is an Indian Restaurant upstream and someone is dumping a lot of butter chicken into the stream.... Left the Jandalfan path tag for someone else as we already have one . TFTC
Nice spot.... Helps to read hint before walking down eh!!!!! Wrong side and didn't wanna swim. Nice spot for a cache. Tftc
Been to the fishing shop that NoFixed Aboder mentions but caching today. We sure didn't take the most direct route but got to examine the streams from lots of directions - pretty interesting - and lots of trees being planted which bodes well. Took the TB and left a pathtag so PITO TFTC
A sale of fishing gear caught my eye & then I discovered a cache nearby. Dropped of T/B. TFTC
Out geocaching with DKQuadrant...
3rd attempt and success at last

Another lunctime sortie to find this one. GPS was hopping around a bit so after a good few minutes of poking around I switched to Geo-radar and quickly homed in on the spot. Excellent cammo meant a bit more poking around to actually have the cache in hand. Very tranquil little spot considering it is surrounded by industrial units and motorway.
[ At 12.45 NZST. Another local tucked away interesting spot. Our stream has the same colouring !!!!. Easy fine BUT most impressed with the camo!! TFTF/C ]
Found the correct approach immediately, and made our way to the collision of the streams. Odd coloured streams indeed (yes, probably algae). Nice easy find of the cache. Thanks for showing us this little bit of wilderness in the heart of a commercial area.

Yet another small part of naturem that we all drive past frequently. Nice little Cache... The locals (pukekos) were watching. TFTC
Didn't know what a Toytoy is, had to ring a Kiwi, after that no problem

Lunchtime find with Ivan & Paul. Once we established the correct entry point was a quick and easy find (with the help of the clue). TNLNSL TFTC
Love these Sunny evenings. Nice spot. Darby reckons its algae that forms the colour. Great Camo. In: Hint Badge Out: TB Jeep.

cool little spot. Followed the reentrant down to the stream junction but discovered the toi-toi was on the spur above. Clambered back and it was soon signed. TFTC
When you see this sort of water colour in the bush, it usually means that there is some manuka staining it up stream. There is a bit around these streams, but I dont know if this is the cause of the colouration here. + Black Jeep TB. Thanks.
Starting to get dark but a straight forward find with the torch despite that, co-ords bang on.

Serious case of * cache creep here* moved at least 5cm's The problem is the camo, its too good, even for the owner.
All well, moved it slightly so its easier to spot.

The Pukeko wasn't too keen on caching. Must be a muggle.
Had to back track to get on right side of water . . . . easy parking in the afternoon. Definitely take the high road when approaching GZ and wear long sleeves if possible. Orange . . . in other cases I like the colour. Here it is a bit of a worry.
Not sure this applies -
"Orange Water - Orange water can indicate the presence of iron in the water. Iron can be naturally present where the soils are high in iron. This is not a pollution problem. However, orange water can indicate acidic runoff from mining activities. Acid water kills fish and other stream life."

Off this afternoon for some caching...sun was shining, so we couldn't resist. We walked around then ooops it's on the other side.... thought of jumping over but was not wearing the right clothes so thought not! Got to GZ, cache was found and replaced, walked away with a few cuts and scratches...cheers!! Thanks for bringing us here!! Not to sure about the colour hmm orange!! TFTC.
Don't you love the colour Orange. The streams seem to be draining the old Rosedale Landfill, so the colour could be from anything that had been dumped.
Also don't you also love cutty grass. I'm glad I have a hiking stick that I take caching with me for times like this.
Cheers for the cache.

Had time for a couple a caches after work, but found I had left the change of shoes at home. Not to be put of I headed of and gingerly worked my way down the bank (slip on heeled shoes not ideal), only to find I was on the wrong side. Could see GZ from the explosion and the.pud's stick. So carefully back up and round to the other side. Got to GZ, with out breaking neck or ankle, and found cache using TT's method rather than the.pud's. Out - 'Hugh' spidder (i love him), in -Girraffe eraser, car, duck, large dice. TFTC (got back to car in one piece too).
Used the poke and prod method for success.
One stream looks as though it is polluted but the water is clear. Strange !
Thanks Glyn

3.10pm. Know the area well we used to have a cache not far from here.
Used the 'grab a big stick and bash' method of finding the cache as don't like the stuff it was hidden in.

Often drop someone at work opposite and didn't even know the small reserve was there. The stream is pretty from a distance but woudn't put my toes in...
Placed the Sad Little Groom in the cache as we think this may be a popular new cache with lots of visits so chances are he may be picked up and taken somewhere closer to his runnaway bride.

Not to far from home , so had to go and get this one.
No problem in finding the loot.
About the colour of the creek!! As far as I know that generally happens when leach water enters the creek at some point. This happens if water seeps through buried debris like vegetation, building rouble and the like. Well there is a huge landfill just across the motorway, but I think the source is closer - more likely the filled - up area where the nearby buildings were build on![?]

Of course if there are two sides to a stream I'll always pick the wrong one. No problems crossing near GZ though.
My theory was leachate from the old landfill across the motorway, but maybe gr8dad is correct.
