It was fun while it lasted, but the lake went above what its previous high mark was, and so I think it's time to archive this cache.
I have an idea for a replacement though - so those of you who found this one previously, look forward to Northern Tasmania II some time in the future.

I suspect this one has been washed away as the lake has been high since the last log. We looked under every rock around GZ with no luck.
well to give you the back story we (the bandits and cracky gekkos)had quested around the mountians for a total of 24 km so we were tired and geo sister had got so nasty sunburn on the back of the legs note to self even though you are in the "snowy" moutians you still can get sunburnt, so today we thought we would get a boat and go island hopping, we started with such high spirts that began to slowly disaper evertime we looked under a rock and found no cache so becasue i have writen way to much. we didn't find the cache
hope someone laughs when they read this

Three adults and three older kids looked everywhere for over an hour but we didn't find it - dissappointing as we are unlikely to try again for some time. But there you go that's caching.
#807 @ 9.10am. Staying in a nearby caravan park & the day shaping up to be wet - we decided to hire a tinny with a canopy which became an issue getting in & out of whilst trying to keep the feet dry . The last find on this cache was back in Sept when we ran our Pocket Query so we weren't sure whether the cache was still above the water line. Thankfully Dad came up with the very well hidden (& dry) critter and we made it back into the boat with dry feet.
Took: Bruce the Shark
Left: Green 69 Dodge Charger
TFTC nathanr.au & wilga - we had a blast burning around the lake at the speed of smell - I think we peaked at 1.5knots

located 7am 24/11/2010, after a short paddle in the Kayak, after the previous days experience with snakes I was very wary, It must have been too early for them as I found the cache without any encounters and signed the log, Took nothing left nothing, It must have seemed weird to a passing fisherman to see me walking along the bank using the kayak paddle as a brush stick. TFTC.
Found by Team Zed and Ayzeds - fourth for the day, on Team Zed's first day caching! Took a bit of finding, but Little Zed finally came through. Took stretchy frog & Star Wars dude; left brooch & Bruce the Shark. TFTC
And it was our 100th cache !!!!
And it was our 100th cache !!!!
One of the highlights of our trip to the ACT. We hired a 3 person canoe from the nearby camping ground for a couple of hours and did a figure of eight around the two islands. The cache took a bit of finding as it was well hidden. So, sooooo tempted to place a puzzle cache on the nearby island as we went past however maintenance would have been an issue. Thanks for a great cache and a reason to go out canoeing.
Alas we failed but had lots of fun canoeing over. even with four sets of eyes we could not find. Firstly we were searching the wrong area then reset coords but still no luck. we will be back. a great adventure despite the outcome. TF the adventure
I like the spirit of the previous cacher - this cache is much more about the journey to the cache than it is about finding a plastic container with a log book.
I'm glad you had a great time. We're thinking of placing a follow-up cache next summer - stay tuned.

On this one we canoed out to the island and were in the wrong spot (dad) so we put the right cowordinents in and still couldn't find it.

Swam over from caravan park with Hools26, we were there for the Multisport race. Thanks
First solo find after taking up geocaching at christmas with a friends dad. A great refreshing swim over to the island and a little bit of scouting about soon revealed my find!! Bring on the caching
Back again after our 4wd trek. Sent the boys over to the island in a kayak hired from Caravan Park. Success. Geo son is a wizz at finding tricky caches. We never expected to ever find a 5 star rated terrain cache! TFTC.
Decided to cool off with a swim to the island at the end of a hot day in Jindabyne. The water was delightfully refreshing. The swim was exhausting for us not very strong swimmers. The find was fun but uneventful. So many rocks. Which one to choose? Perhaps we'll try again next week after our 4wd adventure in the high country.
Crystal Warrior and I dropped by today to check out the possibility of wading over. It looked a bit deep! We also considered boat hire but the cost would have been $45 min and we were not 100% sure it would be there! We will return another day to tackle this one! All the better for the challenge.............
The lake is quite a bit higher than last year, so it's definitely a swim at the moment, not a wade. It's swimmable if your GPS is waterproof, and you're a reasonable swimmer - just be a bit careful of the speed boats around the Christmas - New Year period, as it's the peak of the summer tourist season.
You can hire a kayak or canoe for a fair bit less than the previous poster said - we certainly set this geocache as the challenging one for the area. I will go and check up on it over the next few days and do any maintenance required.

Sorry, I could have mentioned that there are kyaks and canoes for less cost. These are available from the Big 4 Caravan Park around the Lake near the Thredbo turnoff. Choose your own adventure!
Woop woop! Escapetheratrace and bro got me into a canoe for the trip out to the island. Found the cache after about a 10 min search and am pleased to report it's all in good nick.
A nicely earned cache. Big thanks for the cache as I wouldn't have canoed otherwise!

Drove down to the lake amazed at how low it was. Only a 5m gap to the island. Very windy cold day. Could see it snowing on the mountains and decided to do something a little adventurous!
Coincidentally we had swimmers and towels and I decided to cross over to the island! Called a friend for the co-ords as I remembered there was a cache here. Then suited up, GPS and some coins reaady for a drop, and headed over!
Water was beyond freezing. Thought it was going to get up to my chest so changed my route a little. Got to the other side with numb feet, legs and eager to get the cache! Made it to GZ to find it was a rock cache! Noooooooooooo!
Looked inside and out over the rocks with numb feet (which kinda helped as some were sharp) looking for it. Tried every gap as much as I could in the cold, went over each place even going as far a 6 or so meter radius just in case to GPS was off. Watched the sun go down behind the mountains but persisted looking for the cache. Eventually it was too dark to continue, I headed back having not found the prize after such a feat but still quite a tale to tell!
UPDATE: Was looking for some weather temperatures for the time I went into Lake Jindy and found an article about a man who disappeared in the lake only a day or two before. Keep in mind I went in about at about 16:45. http://www.illawarramercury.com.au/news/national/national/general/mans-body-found-in-lake-jindabyne/1598060.aspx and http://www.canberratimes.com.au/news/national/national/general/death-in-the-lake-fatal-bravado-in-freezing-water/1597915.aspx?src=rss

0855 Ah … Nathan, you should have been there !!
A quick wade over, dry the feet off, then up the hill to place the backpack on a rock while I scoured around to find the cache. Ah, right under the pack, right at the coordinates. Hope I didn't hide it too well for the next cacher. Yes, there was ICE in the puddle next to the lake.
Left: Stretchy frog, 2 x AA batteries, and a StarWars keyring.
Took: Magnet - for a themed cache at home.
Brought through, and photographed the following: Baa, Oink, B2B, Weltenbummler coins, and Mushoo, Stan the Tan, and Minntonka Moccasin TBs.
TFTC - hope to see you in the Manning Valley where it is warmer, especially if you have to wade !

Yeah, it's really low at the moment. Looking at it a couple of weeks ago it looked like a knee deep 20m walk. I've been waiting for the first person to do a winter wade to this one. Alas, not yet.
Didnt get out there, but if the water level goes down any further, will be able to walk there soon!
We Took the boat option, but parked it on the wrong side of the island so we walked up and over.
Our search for this one was briefly interrupted by a lightening storm - we jumped back into the boat and returned to the camp site till the weather had cleared.
On our return we looked and looked but were unable to come up with the cache.
Was on a good run, and wasn't going to let this one slow me down! Less than 1/2 an hour from car to cache and return! In fact, the hardest part was finding the cache!!! Thanks again nathanr.au and wilga.
We were thinking about it - but time was the factor - we would certainly have enjoyed trhe swim !!
Next time guys....
Next time guys....
Looked at it....and looked at it again.
However time wasn't on our side, so the decesion was made to wait until the next time we are in the area. Which I hope wont be too long.
Cheers,

Thanks to our friends usat31 we had a tip off about this new cache. We'd been camping near Cooma for a few days and were heading into Jindabyne anyway so it was great to have a new cache to go for. What they didn't tell us was that it was a 5 star terrain! And it certainly lived up to it too! After stopping off at the local shops to buy a towel and swimmers we headed down to the closest place before attempting it. Mr H was to do the deed and with no form of water craft, swimming was the chosen option.
It was a very windy day and a strong current made it very, very hard work. It was a lot further than it looked too! The cache was found using the Garmin Oregon that was fortunately waterproof and then the return journey had to be done. With numb arms it was probably a bit dodgy, plus there was a speedboat towing a water skier back and forth so another option was taken...
"Excuse me, Mr fisherman...can I have a lift!?"
An elderly couple had just started fishing and actually seemed a little annoyed when asked to perform a rescue but after explaining to them that I wasn't a weirdo and telling them all about geocaching they seemed quite interested in the end!
This was a great cache and one of the most fun and challenging ones we've ever done.
Thanks!
