#4217 Today is day 36 of my geocaching vacation in New Zealand. The weather looks nice, and it's warmer as well. Today, my goal is to get a geocache in Gisborne region and make it back before the road closure. Found it! Yay! I made it to Gisborne region. I was a little bit confused about the question and couldn't get the checker to pass. So, I reached out to the CO and some past finders. The cellphone signal was spotty, so I wasn't sure how many messages were sent out. I kept trying different numbers and finally got a green light. At the same time, I got a message about the clarification. That's what it means! Okay, now I walked to the final and saw the remaining of the seats like previous logs mentioned. The hint did not apply anymore, so I scrolled down and read more logs. Then, I found it under the rock behind the middle one!taybee, thank you for the cache! -crystaloops from Taipei, Taiwan on November 5, 2024 @ 16:03:33Picked up [TB9WNJF Buzz Lightyear](https://coord.info/TB9WNJF)[GC1KDBP] Top Look Out (Gisborne) was a D2.0/T2.5 Small Multi-cache at the time of finding.

Great hide - not exactly where it says, but keep looking cos its not too hard and quite a cool hide - enough to earn it a fave. Wonder what this was before it all became overgrown.Left some cool swag cos its a big enough cache, and since Im leaving Gisborne after teaching up here for a few days, I thought this was a great place to leave my second ever TB, one of 5 in a race to reach my brother in Morzine, France. Bye my lil buddy Buzz Lightyear! (TB9WNJF) Safe adventures Mihi ki a koe mo te keteroki #249

A nice quick find here this morning while heading to Gisborne. I found the required information online, and using some information in a recent log the cache was a quick find in the first place I looked. TFTC

First I thought it was gone, but after expanding my search I did find it.TFTC

Today we drove from Hastings to Gisborne where we are staying for a couple of days. We grabbed some caches on the way. Here we parked nearby and crunched the numbers and plotted the final then had to work out how to get to GZ. Summer vegetation certainly makes these sorts of hides more challenging. We got to GZ where the cache was found after quite a search - not as per hint though well hidden. We replaced the caches as found and will message the CO with where we found it TFTCTim and Viv - ddm

Nothing here...

Clever maths question.

After a fleeting visit to Gisborne we are on our way to Napier for a similarly fleeting visit there.
We remember stopping at the Top Look Out years ago at night, and failing to find the cache here. Today we had no trouble spotting it. Nice to tick this one off, thanks.

#1809. Day 5 of our (GB Leader and I) 10 day Hawkes Bay odyssey to watch grandsons play cricket. Today was the last game for the elder grandson, at Park Island, Napier. Another win. That makes their record 4 wins and a loss. Another nice ground with lots of trees surrounding the arena. I did a couple of the WP’s of the AL here.

Then it was off to Gisborne, for the first time in decades! Didn’t have a lot of spare time to stop for caches along the way, but made time for this one, as I had solved it at home with some easy maths! You don’t really need the data from the plaque. And it’s friend taybee’s cache.

I have to say, the hint is up the spout, as are the hint photos. After searching where it seemed the cache should be, I reverted to using cache sense, and spotted a rock at the end of the middle of the five former seat legs. Bingo!

This is now my Easternmost cache find, replacing Whakaki Lagoon, which I found 54 minutes ago.

Tftc taybee. Glad to knock this one off! Now off to Gisborne.

Great views thanks

Great views today nice quick multi worked out then off to find the cache cache all good signed the log and placed back whete found tftm

17-Oct-21
Road Sign clearly showed a rest area, so we couldn't miss this spot. The place is still a nice lookout and the first stage easy to find and solve. I agree with the previous logs: a shame the area of the final is more of a lost place. Cache in good order though.

*** Out on our MEGA Roadtrip with Wilbywarrior. Who says this can only happen when the MEGA is actually held?! Greetings from Dunedin, caching friends Smile

Stopped for this cache and got some good photos of the view. Gathered the required info and made the short walk to the final. After a bit of searching (avoiding the white paper stashes!) the cache was located. It seems a shame that some of this area hasn’t been kept as i imagine it would be great.
Malinkaly and I planned a road trip to go to the MEGA but Covid has postponed the event again. We decided to continue on with our planned journey making adjustments as we go with the ever-changing travel restrictions.
Greetings from Dunedin!
Thanks for the cache, taybee

An easy solve to get the final co-ordinates. On the way to the final, I found this is a "popular" toilet stop for travellers so you really need to be careful where you step. Cache was a quick find once at the right seat. I went on a road trip following the "Mega that wasn't" in Auckland over Labour weekend. TFTC.

Travelling from Gisborne today to Napier with Nosynel and Ethness. Our goal is to find all the TMGT caches in a big figure 8 across the centre of the North Island. Nellie made the find. I guess the layby has changed a bit over the years. Tjanks for the hide.

A nice wee multi. I am on a North Island Figure of Eight tour. For the first 4 days I spend time in the Bay of Plenty with my husband JDScout in Rotorua. Now I am on part one of the eight loop going around the Eastern Cape. This part is being done with my good friends Ethness and Jude_E.
Thanks taybee for creating this hide. It was find 8985 for me.

======== NZ Mega 2021 ========
Planning for the NZ Mega 2021 event is well underway. It will be held in Auckland over Labour Weekend, October 2021

02-Oct-20
Double checked if I had the correct coordinates (had reception ) and then it was a walk in the bush to find a cache.
Jude_E, NosyNel and I are continuing on our figure of 8 tour of the North Island collecting the ‘Tour’ caches, plus others, plus seeing the scenery, plus having a good old time. TFTC.

Would have been an even nice view in it’s day tftc

On a TMGT expedition, with four wagging tails in tow. They got to stay in the camper with the rain, although there was a brief escape.
Not so much a lookout anymore, with taller growth in front.

Mmmm I managed to mess up my maths and had 5 goes before getting the green tick and relied on a previous cachers comments to get to the right spot once at GZ. While there I counted 6 tui in the trees above and for this alone it was worth completing this cache. Beautiful birds and I feed these a nectar solution in my home garden as well as provide fresh fruit for them to feed off.
The views from here would have been much nicer when it was being used as a Lookout.

30-May-20
A brief pause to take in the views, followed by searching for and finding this one. Tftc.

24-Jan-20
Thank goodness for the checker. We squared the first number not realising it meant digit. Then at GZ it was the middle item shown in the checker, not the second from right! But got there in the end. Thick fog in January!!!

24-Jan-20
With a liberal interpretation of hint 2, we found our way to the spot and grabbed the cache!! TFTC

Found 2/1/20 while on a road trip from Palmerston North to Gisborne. We decided to stop here for a rest and some lunch. I checked for nearby caches and hey, there's one right here. Getting the required co-ordinates was straight forward but getting to the cache site proved a bit more challenging. I initially considered a very steep treacherous route but after not making much progress there moved around and located another possible access point. Whilst easier to get to GZ it was a very stinky route that has clearly been used as a toilet for many travellers. Fortunately the cache was easily found once at GZ and I made a hasty retreat back to the wonderful views of the lookout point.

29 December 2019 11:56 AM. Beautiful day to come up here in a convertible with the top down and to check just in case there was a cache here. Smiled to see a fellow ChCh Mega committee member was the last to find the said cache. Easily solved and MP Mum followed the coords after spotting the 'track' while MP Dad took off 8n the opposite direction with the pen. MPM got to fight the blackberry twice more to retrieve the pen and return the cache log! MPD is not allowed to be in charge of the pen for the rest pf thr day even if he is solving multi coordinates lol. TFTC taybee

A nice quick find today with Ms_KR. A wee bit of a scramble to GZ, made the find in the end.

Christmas holiday road trip to Auckland. Day five, from Napier to Gisborne.

Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

17-Dec-19
This passenger woke up a bit grumpy and got somewhat hot and grumpier doing the calculation with the windows closed to keep billions of bees out. Initially walked up the road as not keen to dive into the potential toilet stop. There was more toilet paper there tho than in the bush.Back and up the steep way till we saw something hintlike, signed, and down the old path. Tftc

On a road trip for weekend dropped kids of for a hike at Lake Waikaremoana and I carried on across to the coast following the caches.

#6516. I have been away on a short holiday with my two girls to the east coast to enjoy the sun, heat and surf. After staying a couple of nights in Tolaga Bay, we are making our way south today. While I had a fairly big geocaching wish list the girls made it clear the stops had to be short and infrequent. We stopped here on the way north and gathered the necessary information to correct the coordinates. However I didn't go far enough into the trees, then a van pulled up nearby. So gave up. Today on the way south I had read past logs and knew I had to be more adventurous. Scrambled up the slope and soon spied objects of interest. This area has clearly closed in over the years. The cache was found in the third place checked. Signed the log and replaced where found. Thanks taybee for the cache.

18-Jan-19
After success at the hut we came up here. Soon had the numbers sorted and it was off to find the cache. Mr TW led the way and we soon arrived at GZ without too much blood loss. Cache quickly located, thanks

Day 4 - Monday - Wellington to Gisborne. The Mega Event is over but we have 10 days to go exploring with. So lets hit the road.

The original track here is all overgrown and the seat long since disappeared with ouly the uprights in existance. No view what so ever. Took the direct route straight up through the trees which proved to be the easiest and less prickly option. Snagged and tagged. Cheers

The Seagnoid, Zara and I are on another epic caching adventure for the next two weeks, starting with the Wellington Mega, then East Cape, Taraunga, Waihi, Rotorua and back to Wellington. Its been an awesome journey, over 2500 klms later, visiting many amazing places. Thanks to all COs

29-Sep-18
One week off during school holiday time, combined with some cheap flights made a great adventure in the HB and Gisborne area, popping into BoP a couple of times also. I had great fun and I am grateful to all CO's who placed the caches for others' entertainment!!
The coords were easy enough to work out, but the cache took forever and it got completely dark. I am surprised I found it at the end!!! TFTC!!

Now what an adventure that was! Thank goodness I bought some gum boots for these rainy winter days . Cache differs from original sistema, but is still a good container. Left a giraffe so it can stick its head out over the clouds to see the view! TFTC taybee.

This was not easy, though a walk in the bush and not giving up found

No problems solving this one and getting the green tick. GPS spot on, well hidden so would have been a quicker find if I had used the hints. TFTC

14-May-18
My first Multi in New Zealand. Driving the camper south from Anaura we decided to pull in for a snack. I jumped out and gathered the numbers. Typed the updated coords into my phone and set off. Judging by the tissues the way to the cache is sometimes used as a toilet. I assume when the path was laid it was a great spot to sit and take in the view. A little rummaging around and I had the container. It’s not the CO’s fault that others are so thoughtless

May 14, 2018 11:59:11 GMT+12 Find #6791

Here’s a synopsis of my caching journey so far:
I've been geocaching since January 2011
My longest caching streak is 366 consecutive days. I gave this streak up when it became a chore and I had to drive miles to get my daily cache.
My busiest caching day had 179 finds when I walked the SWALK series above Shoreham, Sussex, UK.
My most diverse day was 3rd August 2016 when I achieved 11 icons traveling up to the UK Mega – Wales.
I’m currently working towards my 3rd and 4th loops of the Difficulty / Terrain grid and only need 4 caches to complete both.
I've been First to Find a geocache on 385 occasions.

Thanks taybee for placing this cache! Smile

Holidaying for a couple of weeks in NZ to do a bit of sight seeing and catch up with family. We have been from Auckland to Tauranga to Hicks Bay, the East Cape and Tolaga Bay and are now heading to Napier! This was a quick stop and a not so quick find due to dodging land mines all the way up to GZ. Yuk.

Thanks for the cache but yeah, um... ewwww.

Tried this yesterday but made a stupid mistake in calculations. On our way back to Hastings seen our error straight away, and soon had the cache in hand. TFTC

Got this wrong the other day on our way to gisbourne but realised where we went wrong on our way back home and cache was soon in hand. Tftc

Got a set of decent looking coordinates and set off to find the cache. Wandered about for a short while before I believed where I needed to go. Coords pretty well spot on once I got to GZ. TFTC

Lookout !! [:o]
I had arrived Smile
What a great view on a sunny day Big Grin

Averting me gaze long enough to have a poke for the cache,
had me thinking that this might be a multi-cache [:o]
And with the cache notes read,
I was able to come up with a new set of coords in double quick time !!

A short wander away from where I parked,
and I was in the scrub,
being poked by trees,
snagged by blackberries,
and sliding on tree roots Big Grin

All part of the fun of finding this cache.
And away from the view,
which this seat once had,
I found the cache Smile

Bit misty to see anything from the lookout, so just had to do the cache instead. Oh dear, what a shame, never mind.

09-Oct-16
On a short holiday, destressing and roadtripping up to Gisborne via a heap of caches.

We replaced the cache due to its long period without finds, and tidied up the area too. TFTC

09-Oct-16
School holidays, must be time for a road trip to Gisborne. And of course a cache or two.
Very overgrown at GZ, watch out for the white tissue paper, you don't want to know what it might be hiding [xx(]
TFTC taybee.

09-Oct-16

Replaced container and new log sheet. Clue, behind middle one.

13-Jul-16
Unfortunately no luck finding this one. Pretty sure we had the right spot. Maybe others will have better luck.

29-May-16
Quickly worked out the final coordinates and then it was a process of elongation at final location. TFTC

25-Apr-16
Squirrel Nutcase and myself are on a road trip to the Gisborne area chasing caches with a higher D rating for our licence challenge. We visited area 3 months ago and hopefully we will have better success this time and collect anything else on the way. Day 1 was to get there first and day 2 back to Rotorua via Wairoa Napier way.

10am - Had solved this one at home and thought it would be a quick find but not to be. Increased the search area and found hidden cache. Good to get this one. SLTFTC

With Gap (of Fap and Gap)... After five months of grief, it's time for another serious attack on our current caching license. We're heading east to target seven high difficulty caches, and anything else that catches our attention...

Gap had this one sorted from home, so the find was expected to be a formality. We projected the final location, but something I read on the cache page made me doubtful... In the meantime, Gap headed away to the final coordinates while I took a few messages on my phone... Gap eventually found the hinted objects and after widening his search area, found the hide. TFTC.

08-Mar-16
Great view point here, but sadly we couldn't find the cache and we didn't realise that the spoiler pictures were in geochecker which would have been a great help.

29-Jan-16
short multi, we soon found the correct information for the final. It was a bit difficult to get to the place, and once we arrived there we had to search some time before we found the cache

Quick solve and then to off to find the cache both in jandals we slipped on pine needles. Co-ordinates spot on. No travel bug here though. What a stunning view here. TFTC Smile

Stopped for lunch with the cache as a bonus. Once I found the route to where the GPSr wanted me, I also found the relic of the past and the cache. Thanks.

19-Jun-15
Very chilly up here today, but the views were awesome.
The co ords were very quick & easy to work out, then we were off to find the final. No problems finding the cache. The clue gets you close enough, so with a bit of a rummage, the cache was found.
Left a pet rock - a hippo. TFTC taybee

21-Feb-15
The calculation for the final was quickly done, the search for access took a little longer. We could not really follow the hint, as there was no seat in the area anymore. Left a wooden coin. Great views! Thanks for the cache.

First cache in the district - and unfortunately GZ is used as a toilet. So be very careful with your footing - unfortunately we were not. So finding the cache was quick - cleaning the shoes took a while. Never mind, TFTC

Thanks for shwoing us the very nice look-out. We had some trouble finding the final box, but in the end, we got it!

On our way to Napier after a few days geocaching around Gisborne. Solved the puzzle which was confirmed with the geochecker. Got the pictures and found the hints and we logged with permission of the CO.

Lots of Fulton Hogan trucks stopping here and we were worried we would not be able to find. But.... one was asleep and the other moved on then before we could hunt another arrived. Popular spot obviously.

Thanks heaps taybee. Gets a FAV from us. Another smilie on the road from Gissy to Napier.

This is our first multicache. And we did it! Geohusband was a bit confused by the whole thing, but he is only there to search in the bushes Smile

10-Jul-14
Think we solved the puzzle and found the old seat base. I think we were looking in the right place but it was really cold and wet and maybe we didn't try hard enough, because the cache eluded us.

Found as Hemaludy but now have my own caching name. Just catching up on logging. TFTC.

Lovely place to stop for a cache. Well over grown since the last time there

Great views though

It was a long, long search. And that only because I didn't read (and understand) the text. Hmmmm
Thanks for putting a cache out here. I agree with previous cacher, it is a shame that they have removed the seat, it is a great way of overlooking the whole area.

Caching with the Seagnoid on our way to Gisborne for the NI National Daffodil Show. Thanks for the cache.

13-Sep-13
Here with popmac on a geocaching / daffodil trip. Popmac grows daffodils and is taking a bunch to a daffodil tournament thingy in Gisborne with plans to cache along the way, and I came along for the ride.
Popmac has not done any multis, and doesn't know how to enter coordinates into his GPSr. okay, he has done one - while scouting for a cache location he came across a cache, so found that one without the use of GPS. The description says this is a simple read-the-sign multi, so I thought it would be a good teaching exercise. Worked out the answers, got popmac to enter the coords, and he was off! Leaving me to lock up the car. I raced after him (after confirming he was going in the right direction) and found he hadn't found the cache yet. Lookout... I climbed up to the top, but no, cache is where the seatless bench is. Someone should restore that bench and trim the trees. Ended up having to use the hint. Well hidden!

Could not find it. As far as we can see there used to be a path to a higher lookout, but that's all been taken away and fully overgrown now. Hints do not make sense anymore, but of course we could be wrong. Would be great to hear back from the cache owner if it still exists?

After reading the past logs it seems we just did not look hard enough. Will come back to tick this one off!

We do not understand why this cache remained unfound from the last two cachers. The calculations are pretty clear and there is even a "cacher highway" to the box. The box was found in good state and nearly where it should be. So thumbs up for this one! Thanks!

By the way, awesome lookout!

I was really keen to find this cache (the listing is >500m above sea level which would help with a Challenge cache); found the plaque, did the numbers, was a little confused re the East co-ordinate... decided to look up Google maps in the luxury of my motel that night.
Driving south the next day, didn't seem to make sense so I abandoned the attempt.

Solved the coordinates easily enough and found the remnants of an old seat. Also found bush lawyer, blackberry and household rubbish but no cache to be seen by us today.

Got the required info a couple of days ago and entered it wrong in GPS. Re-calculated it in a more comfortable place and went to collect it today. I'm an idiot, was wearing jandles and it was raining. I was sliding about, the bushes dripping all over me and the temperature was dropping. I would have given up but Mrs Kenny was watching me from the car and I could feel her eyes bearing into me, I knew I better not go back empty handed. Perseverance paid off.
