15:05I had to go help a friend in Gisborne with his Internet connection... he'd been using the same dongle for the better part of a decade, and now it doesn't work because of the 3G shutdown. With his computer hooked back to the outside world through his phone, I was free to go and play...After a drive through the Black Forest, I took the old highway to the parking coordinates for a nice little walk. And at the end... a familiar signature hiding spot. It's been a while, Team Ladava. Thanks for the walk and the historical titbits.#9360

31-Oct-24
On my way to a 3 day 4wdriving navigation event in Guildford so I decided to grab some along the way!

12-Oct-24
Great hide! Found on our way to micaparamedic's Earthcache Day Event in Vaughn Springs.Andy thinks Story 1, but Nel thinks Story 2 considering that Story 1 doesn't get a mention on the new plaque TFTC - fave point awarded Smile

*Found on the 21 Sep 2024 @ 5:02pm.**Cache find # 15830.* After a day out up North, I was now heading towards home but there were still a number of caches to be found along the way, taking the less direct route so that these caches that would normally get passed by, were not. This was an interesting walk to GZ, a walk that I would never have known about except this cache pointed it out, once in the GZ area, it wasnt long before the nicely hidden cache was found. As for the stories, they are both believable so it is a bit hard to decided, maybe story 2.**Thanks to Team Ladava for keeping the game going by placing this cache.**

Quick find whilst passing thru this beautiful areaTFTC

08-Sep-24
Found with my favs Bogonghazy and Geo dog. Crossing off a few of my blank dates. Enjoyed the walk and the history, but feel story 2 is the most believable . Thanks Team Ladava for placing the geocache

I went to the post office waypoint first, saw an open gate and thought that's the way to go. Then I was on the wrong side of the fence. That was an easy fix and on the way back I found the right path. The cover plate was on the ground. Box was okay. TFTC

04-Aug-24
Found it Scotts / Drummondboys

17-Jul-24
Made use of a break between showers to make the walk through the trees. Found the graves and the clever hide. Left a 1949 halfpenny. TFTC.

17-Jul-24
Spotted GZ from the road but thankfully the parking waypoint stopped us from jumping fences. Nice walk (although the track peters out as it goes). Seems the Horse Race story is the accepted one these days. Very nice hide - understand all the favourites now. Found with UncleTom3 - TFTC

25-Jun-24
Beautiful walk through this short trail. Who would have guessed there would be a couple of graves here!Story 2 is my pick.

10-Jun-24
Fantastic little walk in a secluded area. Super effort with the hide. Tha k you. Some nice local history.

07-Jun-24
Found this interesting cache, so beautifully hidden at 12:43pm, the only resident was a tiny slug...thank goodness! We're on our way to Wangaratta for a Caching weekend and it's 11 months since we found our last cache, so looking forward to some fun. This one was very impressive. Took spoon, left Little man. Signed log. Thank you!

Took us a minute, hard to find somewhere park

28-May-24
Walked down from the park, good spot well hidden.

18-May-24
Great hiding spot

08-May-24
Very nice spot

07-May-24
Very nice spot. The container is homed to a huntsman so I didnt open it up. Looked to be a couple of spider nests around the container

01-May-24
Found it! Accidentally walked too far and had to backtrack but oh well, it was a nice walk along the River. BUT... a warning to fellow arachnaphobes there is a huntsman spider living in this cache location. So be careful on your retrieval. A very long stick aided me in the shooing away of said spider so I could return the cache. But I got the absolute shock of my life when it made itself apparent to me... Do not open the attached photo, it contains a spoiler, and a spoider.. anyway, tftc. I enjoyed the finding, except for the unexpected friend.

I headed up to Dimboola for a CITO yesterday and did not realise it had been cancelled on Friday evening until I was checking what time it was planning on starting when in Stawell. It was cancelled due to the heat and the total fire ban as well.It was going to be hot picking up rubbish so it was for the best.I did some caching in Stawell and still headed up to Dimboola to do a small I Spy Series. On the way back I tried booking some accommodation for the night. After finding out that all of the accomodation is booked out between Stawell and Ballarat for night I stayed in Avoca for the night and now it is a different way home. After touring the Perydale historic area and finding a mine I got out of the bush only to find I was heading back in again but in a different direction. So Im back out of the bush again and hopefully for the last time as I have to get home eventually.Zig zagging my way around the backroads and finding random caches as I go.I have been here before and I got out safely but without a cache.I used the waypoints to park the Geocruiser and headed off to this one.I read all of the boards along the way and soon came across the headstone and the other memorials.I made my mind up about which story to believe then went off looking for the cache.A Team Ladava cache that I have seen before was soon spotted.A fav goes out to you for this one and for showing me this area.Story 1 is the correct story to follow. Thanks Team Ladava TFTC.

24-Feb-24
Found with DSD on a road trip through Victoria on our way to the SA border, with an amended route due to the bushfires. We needed a pit stop & this trad with a multi nearby looked good! I think Story 2 must be the correct one, as the old sign has been removed and a new sign put in place! The new sign only has Story 2 on it, with no mention of the other story! Very interesting spot! Awesome cache hide too, will get a favourite from me. However I have run out of FPs so will add it to a list and come back to add it later. TFTC

25-Jan-24
Parked across the paddock and made my way to GZ what a strange spot this is. Great cache and very unique. This was my last stop for the day and had a great time around the area. TFTC

13-Jan-24
bunadoorian and I spied this cache with so many favourite points while we were having lunch at Woodend. We came here and enjoyed the walk from where we parked the car. The new sign says story 2 is the correct one. Thank you for showcasing this area of history Team Ladava. TFTC and a favourite point for the whole experience of finding this cache.

13-Jan-24
After careful consideration and reading 1 version of the story twice and 2 other versions of the story I find myself obliged to opt for story 2 even though 1 version of story 1 mentioned an honourable JP Parker or perhaps because it mentioned an honourable JP Parker.I enjoyed the cache and the storys and have decided that all in all this cache was well deserving of a favourite point. Thanks for the entertainment and TFTC.

06-Jan-24
Story 1. Dodgy spot. TFTC!

Quite an interesting spot with loads of history. Loved this town with all its plaques on its history it’s been a great visit. Thanks for highlighting this area and the clever hide

23-Apr-23
Found with Serial on a day trip out. Lovely walk. We think it’s story 1!

23-Apr-23
Sweet walk, we think its gotta be story 1

23-Apr-23
Out and about with Echidna44 and our Muggle Husbands, this is another brilliant Team Lavada cache. Just so clever. I favor the second story, though I could imagine both events happening.

23-Apr-23
Another brilliant Team Ladava cache.
I favour Story 2 where he was accidentally killed while jumping his horse in a race.
Out for a Sunday drive on a beautiful autumn day, BoabTree and I walked through a VERY uneven ground to get to the cache, but it was well worth it, thanks.

21-Apr-23
When Mrs B & I came found this cache we assumed the two stories related to the two individuals mentioned on the nearby plaques as we couldn't see the image in the description on our GPS. The plaque for John White attributed his demise according to Story 2 while the other plaque was for another individual whose demise was followed Story 1. I guess the original plaque was replaced with these two after further heritage research was done.

We enjoyed the walk to this cache on a lovely sunny day, great story too.

14-Apr-23
Nice spot

14-Apr-23
Drove here after my day of working remotely in Kyneton. Made my way to the grave site visiting the 2 plaques on the way. Story 2 is where I’m going with the likely outcome. Only geocaching would have brought us to this interesting location. Thanks for bringing us here and TFTC. A favourite point.

07-Apr-23
Having made plans to go caching as our usual tradition on Good Friday; Ghihash and I change our plans on Thursday night from the Mega to Riddles Creek due to bad weather and time restraints.
We took Ghihash’s car thinking we won’t need the clearance for the day. We started with the caches in Carsruhe before heading to Riddles creek.

Ghihash and I discussed the theories behind both stories and thought it more likely that he was the groomsmen

07-Apr-23
Having just one day off this week I asked k9team if she wanted to go to the mega, however realising that was a 3 hour drive there and a 3 hour drive back with unfavourable weather we decided to go caching in Riddells Creek. On the way I saw I still hadn't done the caches in Carlsruhe so we spent some time before lunch finding all the caches here.

I think both story's are plausible but for the sake of the vote I'm leaning towards story 2.

Tftc Found with k9team

Found it. Nice site.
Looks like someone stole the original cache container.
The replacement is not quite right.
LOL.

I had spent the morning on an MX-5 Club run that was visiting various old bridges through out central Victoria... starting in Avenel and ending in Malmsbury. I stopped off for this cache on my way home... as I was going past and not on the freeway!

Either story is plausible and *Story 2* should be easily verified... so if there is any doubt as to which one is true, I would vote for *Story 1*.

Thanks **Team Ladava** for putting this cache here.

Loved the trail! Bring good shoes, not too far but lots of debris

Excellent!

Seems the original cache container was replaced, as I found the place it should be (nice camo) but it was actually hidden nearby and doesn't fit in the spot I figured it should sit

**Story 1 or Story 2, 18th January 2023**
*Cache find #1241*

The Cache Whisperer had to come to Woodend today to taste beer at a local brewhouse. Yes, it’s his job. I just heard “geocaching” somewhere in the conversation, so came along for the ride. We geocached around Woodend and Carlsruhe today and learnt a lot about the area.

Whilst in Carlsruhe today, we wandered over to look for the graves and read the stories of the two young men killed by/with their horses. On all accounts they are very sad and tragic yet plausible, we both are voting for Story 2.

Thanks for highlighting this historic place and for hiding the cache for our enjoyment Team Ladava. Cache on

**The Cache:** Good condition. TNLN, signed log as Let Them Eat Cache, LTEC or something in between. Replaced as found.

*Throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Explore. Dream. Discover.* **Mark Twain**

05-Dec-22
Either story is plausible but I’m going with story 2

I enjoyed the wander through the trees and was amazed at how high the water has recently been.

TFTC Team Ladava
Keep smiling

Woo Hoo. Thank you JAMS crew - I'm first to sign your new piece of paper!! The river must've been lapping at the heads of these graves going by the height of debris on the path in. Is it coincidence that both William Jones and John White were killed in horse related activities??? As a longtime horsewoman with a wee streak of thron, tell me not to ride a spirited horse & guess what I'll do/have done/will continue to do - despite being old enough to know better? Story 1 gets my vote. Many thanks & Happy St Andrews Day

17-Nov-22
The JAMS team (JJ52, allister w, mogni, sir_spectre) have hit the road again, this time heading to the Wittlesea Mega event caching along the way. We had various goals that we wanted to achieve on our 5 day road trip concentrating on old caches, LGA's, unusual D/T combinations and caches with lots of favourite points. [^]

We covered a lot of ground and had a fun time touring around Victoria. We also really enjoyed the Mega and caught up with lots of people, some we hadn't seen for quite a while. There was plenty to see and do at the showgrounds and we managed to fit events, labs and the maze while we were there before heading out to find more caches. Big Grin

We were lucky with the weather, which turned out to be much nicer than what was forecast and we were able to get out there and find the caches we had targeted. All in all a great 5 days. Cool

A nice walk to this one. We found GZ and part of the cache some way away so we put it all back together and added a log, but it isn't waterproof. Big Grin

Thanks for the cache Team Ladava. Smile

17-Nov-22
Deoured here to get a new vic LGA for the team. Seeing this cache had 45 fav points it was a target. Started walking down to the creek and wondered if the cache was still there. There is deris 6 foot above the current water level of the creek and that level is above normal. I found a bird house that had washed down the creek on route to gz, i took it and going to use it as a cache. At gz we found the bottom of the themed cache, no log sheet or inside container. Once we found that we realized that the top half the cache was something we passed on the walk in. We walked back the 80 meters and replaced cache as it should be. Very nice cammo here. added a log sheet inside but with out a inside container that isn't going to last, so didn't have a plastic bag. dropped a temp cache, a bucket with a logsheet at gz so this one can still be found, till the co can come and repair this cache. fav point

The JAMS team ( JJ52,Allister w, Mogni, and sir_spectre minus mitchell&hound ) we where out for there usually monthly caching adventure. This time it was to Victoria for the Whittlesea Mega. We left thrusday morning and came back monday We targeted as many Vic LGA's on the journey there and back plus trying to get some extra's around the " melbourne CBD ". A few letterbox D/T's that don't exist in S.A. where stamped and selected D/T's in victoria for our fizzy grid only using victorian caches ( 11 to go before this trip for me ). Where possible old caches where targeted in the missing LGA's ( 2000 or 2001 ) or caches with high fav points. This filled holes in some of the teams Jasper grids. The recent rains caused localized floods that caused a few road closures that slowed our team down and meant we didn't get all LGA's targeted, we where also slowed down by the parks that have turned in to marshes with the rain. Also one tree was climbed which was a record low for the team. It was good to catch up with some teams we have seen for many months or a year or two at the mega and meet some new teams as well.

17-Nov-22
The JAMS (JJ52, allister w, mogni, sir_spectre) crew went on a MEGA adventure. We all managed to get a 5 day weekend so we made the most of our trip out of state. Our main targets were old caches, different LGA's and those that have lots of favourite points.
Thanks to all those who have placed, hosted events and kept all the other caches alive for us to find.
All caches signed as JAMS.
Thanks to Team Ladava from mogni Smile

17-Nov-22
Found with the jams crew on our way to the Whittlesea mega. We saw the top half of the cache about 100m from GZ. No logbook but we added a piece of paper and put the cache back together. TFTC

Awesome spot. Story 1 is my vote

Story 2 is our guess. TFTC

Easy find and nice scenic walk to it, thanks

13-Aug-22
Good easy find, thanks for this! Lovely walk

04-Aug-22
Took us ages to find. Had to read comments. “Looks out of place”. Ha! It was right where we started looking. Great hide.

29-Jul-22
This was an interesting site. We are fairly sure that we shouldn't have entered this site the way we did but we couldn't find another way. This was a great cache, hidden in plain sight. Thanks for the cache and remembering these tragedies.

29-Jul-22
I like to look for as many old caches as I can so I was pleased that we searched for and found this one today. unfortunately, these tragedies are likely to be forgotten with time as access and the existence of this site are not obvious nor advertised. Thank you.

24-Jul-22
Really nice walk. Tftc

24-Jul-22
Very cleaver hidden cache

24-Jul-22
A nice little walk. They have another man buried at this grave too, and he drowned crossing a stream on his horse. A random location in the hush with 2 people dying in horse related events. Found this cache with the two Flaggy teams. We all 3 vote for story 2 please. John White seems a common name, we vote for him being a rebel who entered a race and it went wrong. Tftc.

21-Jul-22
Found it! This was such a lovely walk, throughly enjoyed it, I read all in information posts too. The story of the two graves was really nice, and very clever way to hide the cache. I took a coin and seashell and left a rabbit plush. Also signed the logbook. Thanks!

01-Jul-22
Great story

29-Jun-22
Little obvious but still nicely hidden

29-May-22
We enjoyed the walking trail to the graves. Very clever concealment. We vote for story 1.

24-May-22
A great cache idea here, i loved it, have a favorite.

24-Apr-22
A nice find

19-Apr-22
Find #5141. Found @ 11:31 with The Good Lady Wife and j-bean.

Travelling back to Melbourne from an Easter getaway in Echuca and wanted a break. TGLW chose this cache as a break point.

The rain that had been accompanying our drive decided to pause while we were here, but that did nothing to help the wet ground situation and we were soon soaked through from the knees down from the grass. I made the tactical mistake of taking the route via the indicated waypoints, which left us with a fence to tackle. Not a problem, but a slight inconvenience.

Once at the graves, it was a quick find of the cache. Nice camouflage which gets a favourite point from me. The walk back to the car was much easier along the plantation path. The view of the Campaspe was a bit underwhelming compared to the Murray end where we just came from.

And for my money, the second story sounds more plausible. The added detail of the horse's name provides some credibility, although that could be a complete fabrication - who am I to know?

Took nothing, left pathtag, signed log and visited some trackables.
Thanks for the cache Team Ladava.

15-Apr-22
Good spot near graves not to hard

15-Apr-22
The trail to get there was a bit rough but it was a very good hiding spot

14-Apr-22
Heading away on an Easter adventure to Wooroonook Lakes and got an early getaway to hopefully beat the traffic. So far so good. Stopped in for a short break to grab a couple of caches.

Made the trek into this one. A cool hide at GZ which I’ve awarded a fav.

Probably story 2 works best for me.

Thanks Team Ladava for adding this cache to the worldwide collection for us all to find.

Took me a couple of guys to find the ‘hidden’ path , but then all good I’m going with Story 1. Good hide, most impressive. Thanks Garth
