Our first day of Skindo back country gravel roads plus a few other caches on the way. Managed to find 49 caches and 2 DNF. Particularly enjoyed the area around Mauriceville with lots of history and old buildings. Quick solve here once our compass decided to flip 180 degrees and point the right way. TFTC
Back in June of this year I got a huge Geocaching fright! Having spent quite some time attempting to solve as many Skindo Puzzle Caches in the Wairarapa as I could so I could spend more time over there exploring the country, I discovered that large numbers had been archived. Worse still, there was some talk on various forums as to whether someone should go around and collect them up rather than leave them in place to still be discovered.
So I have been itching for a chance to get over to the Wairarapa and try to find as many as I could before they disappear forever, and with Spring here and Daylight Saving having now kicked in, Stardust 718 and I teamed up to go and explore some of the northern half of the region. There would still be a lot of ground to cover (I drove about 350km today) and the weather wasn't being the most helpful to us, but we figured it would still be worth it as there would be quite a few other caches to find along the way too, including this one.
This particular cache was solved about a year ago. I remember it being one of the first time I used Geocaching Toolbox to do a projection, so I'm glad to be able to come here today to see if I got it right. Luckily I did and it was a quick and easy find at GZ, which was great as we really wanted to push on and get as many caches found today as possible. The log was quickly signed with both our names and then it was back to the car to dash off to the next one.
Thank you for placing this cache.

I was out exploring the Wairarapa with TwigNZ today between wind, rain and sunshine. We explored some lovely countryside on the back roads, talked with a couple of farmers while searching for caches, and had a great day arriving home 10 hours later cold and tired.
A nice find with the street names. The cache was quickly located thanks to TwigNZ's prior homework.

Never been to this part of the Wairarapa before - really lovely on this sunny winter's day. Cache quickly located and signed. TFTC Yeetrees!
With Gap (of Fap and Gap)...
We have been planning for Queen's Birthday weekend for some time - routes and caches were identified and mapped, and Gap solved a whole lot of puzzles in readiness for this adventure. We scoured many online logs and took note of the condition of the caches and their logbooks. We determined to replace any containers and logbooks where there was a dire need - This is not usually our habit and is quite time consuming; but we are enthusiastic cachers and believe in doing our bit for the wider caching community...
After overnight rain, the early morning was quite dark and gloomy. However, as the morning wore on, the sun came out, and it was quite warm if one could find a sheltered spot out of the wind... We set off with the intention of caching our way to Masterton and zipping in and out of any side roads as well. The proliferation of caches in this area would definitely keep us busy today... This was an unexpected puzzle along our route. We struggle with these angular conundrums, but Gap eats them up. He had this quickly nailed down. Thanks Yeetrees. TFTP and TFTC.

Day 2 of our Road Trip
Early start today, weather fine but very cold.
Heading south we detoured up side roads, some sealed some gravel.
Caches like yesterday that needed log sheets replacing as they were so wet we couldn't sign them. Just as well we bought new log sheets and bags with us.
The huge numbers of caches in this area we know that we will have to return on another trip.
Always great to visit new areas. Thanks for the cache placements. SLTFTC

Today was a numbers run over to the Wairarapa to mainly boost my finds for May, as they've been sorely lacking. I had a couple of missions I wanted to achieve - finding the remaining 250 finds in a month caches (even the ones I haven't yet qualified for), and to attempt to get Skindo's 1000th. I also wanted to visit some locations in the Wairarapa that I've never been to before (even before geocaching). In 12 hours I managed to find 53 caches, including 25 traditionals, 24 puzzles and 2 multis. I also signed 5 challenges, pending future qualification.
I had been interested in this cache right from my early days of geocaching, when I was looking for suitable caches for the lonely cache challenge, as at the time this had qualified for it. However it was found before I could make it this far north. Since then it's been sitting here waiting. Well, I wasn't going to let it wait any longer and parked up today. Got a little concerned with a neighbour muggle nearby, but he was busy doing muggle things so I was able to quickly grab the cache and sign. All good here. TFTC

Driving through the area looking at the historical sites which we had noticed at various geocache sites. A really interesting story of toil, hardship and for some a very short life. TFTC
Mrs Popmac and I were in this area to attend the final service at the church nearby, and stopped at GZ to solve the puzzle, a quick stop. Thanks Yeetrees for this puzzle cache.
A nice and quick find. Cheers.
Today we spent biking around Masterton, and a drive to Eketahuna and back on roads less well travelled.
Thanks to all of the COs for placing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

#4919. I have had a full on week at work - full of meetings and briefings, reviewing documents as well as chairing another meeting all day Saturday. Of course Wellington was having its hottest and driest spell of weather on record while I was deskbound. So was hanging out for a geocaching expedition today. I love caching in the Wairarapa so decided it was time for another full day visit. The weather started off a bit miserable with the first rain in Wellington in 4 weeks and the showers only stopped once I hit Featherston. After that it was cloudy and warm but mostly dry all day. Managed to get 53 caches found on my ambitious list of 80 with just 4 DNF's. Intriguing name for a cache and the GZ explains it all. Soon worked out the ultra difficult field puzzle and headed off on the tramp to the GZ. All good here. Signed the log and replaced the cache as found. Thanks for the cache Yeetrees.
Our 300th find!
Miss 3Prettys was getting a calf ready for Pet Day at a friend's farm, so we headed out to find a few caches out this way while we waited for her. This was a very quick find (it took longer to open the 3 containers!) on a stunningly beautiful spring Wairarapa afternoon. We lingered by the monument taking milestone selfies in the sunshine, then headed off to our next find.
Thank you for this cache, Yeetrees!

On a road trip to collect mainly puzzle caches to help get to 250 for August to collect another puzzle cache. Like usual we got sidetracked on nearby traditionals. We do this ALL the time lol. Heading home and we find ourselves on this road.
An interesting side road! With lousy directional radar I just wandered around in a half circle at the required distance while hubby used the compass and went straight to it. If we had read the hint and bothered to retain it we would have not needed to take either of those options. Dah! Cache all in order. TFTC

Another day off today to catch up on working all weekend. After another refreshing night's sleep, I got up early to head to another Skindo run in the Wairarapa. Headed over the Saddle to encounter a lot of fog between Woodville and Pahiatua, but it had cleared by the time I started this run.
A quick find here, even though the cache was completely buried. As my last name is East, I am clearly the missing piece of the puzzle here. TFTC

On a caching road trip collecting unfound caches around Mauriceville and enjoying previously unexplored rural vistas.
As with many of the caches we located today, this one added another thread of local Scandinavian history - a worthy placement; TFTC Yeetrees.
(P.S. Is this the easiest puzzle cache in history?)

Great spot! would have never noticed this if it wasn't for this cache! took a photo of the sign and quick retrieval of the cache. lg book very damp may need some TLC during winter! TFTC and TFTP
A straightfoward cache, but I was driving South, and didn't want to double back to GZ. Still a few to get in the area, so another time perhaps.

A MEGA Adventure
Both Nova Lightning and myself had set ourselves caching targets that we were hoping to meet in time for the NZMEGA in a few weeks. So with a plan in progress and fuel in the tank away we set.
Departed home at 6pm Friday, returned home 3.30pm Monday, 7 hours sleep approx 470 caches and a great adventure.
Thanks to all those that have placed caches especially Skindo as I think we gave his caches a bit of a nudge
Thanks for a great weekend of Caching and Bull.

Mega Weekend
It all started about a month ago when Cats&Dragons brought up the idea of heading down the line to collect 350+ caches. We both had targets that we wanted to meet before attending the NZ Mega. Plans and locations were drawn up and puzzles were begun to be solved. It took me a while to get my head around a few of the puzzles and with the help of a cacher I was soon on a roll.
The weekend finally came and we departed Hamilton at 6pm on a Friday night. 3days, 2,000km, & 11hrs sleep, later 472 caches collected. Thanks to all those who's caches I found especially Skindo with a huge number laid.

cache #29 (for me) of day one of Etherlord and the Seagnoid's almost-100-cache-"Attack on Skindo's Puzzles" weekend in the Wairarapa.
Skindo: 24
Others: 5
I must admit that the Seagnoid wasn't quick enough to explain the 'puzzle' portion of this cache and instead I went straight to where my non-paperless GPSr was pointing me... apparently the rain-laden clouds overhead "improved" my accuracy
Skindo: 24

Out in the Wairarapa with Etherlord on an Attack on Skindo's Translation Puzzles weekend.
Note sure why this is a puzzle cache - GZ was right on the cache location. Love the signpost!

We noticed as we drove up, there were a couple of steers in the area around the monument, with an electrified fence around them. Sure enough, the cache was within the fenced area too!
Dad carefully stepped over the fence to retrieve the cache - fortunately the animals weren't interested & didn't bother to move.
Log book is falling apart, but signed it & returned to it's hiding spot.
Left a pet rock - a frog. TFTC

It wasn't a very nice morning to be out caching with some white floaty stuff falling.
Cheers for the cache.

A quick park and puzzle at an interesting location. The compass must have been in a bit of a spin here for North to be opposite West. TFTC
Nice simple puzzle,Found on way south

Seemed like we were miles from anywhere here.
There was an awful smell in the area, as though something had died, so we quickly found the cache, signed the log and moved on.

A nice easy puzzle, and a good spot for a cache. Strange that north and south meet at right-angles. Thanks.

A quick find while on a caching expedition in the area today. This was effectively a traditional cache for me as I spied a likely looking cache hiding place when I arrived and the GPSr led me straight to it before it had time to settle down closer to the sign. Signed log, TFTC!
Thanks for the interesting information. It was a nice drive to this cache site on a very warm day.
Puzzled over this one at home many months back (when still a newcomer) but, in reality, it was a super-quick driveby. Left in a somewhat easterly direction to complete the compass.
Decided to leave the GPS in the car for this one, and do the projection with the ol' eyeometer. Pretty accurate as it turns out! Like the street signs - there can't be many round like that.

#26... 3/4 on the afternoon leg of our Masterton cache tour. Another quick find after the Mauriceville Info Stop, very damp at GZ and likewise for contents inside (not soaked luckily). Replaced the logbook bag (as it was we and had holes in it) with a fresh snap lock bag we happened to have in the cachecar. Also dropped of Zamdee's Cinemaboxer geocoin. Hopefully everything stays dry ! TNL(Geocoin) SL TFTC!
Another unplanned visit on our long afternoon. Clever location to have a cache. Good find.
Found easily in a remote location I would not have come to if I were not chasing a cache. TFTC
Interesting spot, an overheated muggle topping up his radiator nearby but didn't spot the hunt. TFTC.
Tried yesterday but it seemed like every muggle in the Wairarapa was driving past the cache ... so I came back and got it today TFTC
Found using the Nuvi 760 and the instructions. First find of the day on a crisp frosty morning at 0725hrs. TNLN SL TFTC
Another interesting piece of history about the region. Many thanks for the puzzle and the cache. SL. Driveby puzzle caches like these can be fun!

This was the fourth cache of the day and and happily it was easy to find as had a few difficulties and failed to find a couple of others but certainly not prepared to admit which ones until I've had another shot! TFTC - I presume that means Thanks For The Cache ??!!
Found cache without difficulty. Another fascinating piece of history recorded on the plaque. Thanks to bringing me to it.
Never realised the Scandanavians settled this far south as I had perceived they had all been further up the line.
A great bit of history lies amongst this series of caches in this area. Thanks for the excuse to tackle the navigation and get ourselves out to here today.
This was a straightforward find, true to coords, description and clue. Thanks for that. Cache all in order and rehidden well, as found.
TNLNSL, TFTC found with team cacher Sweet P too
The Turtle strikes again!

Note: did not see Flip Flop NZ travel bug here.
Thanks, Yeetrees, for this series of caches out here around Mauriceville - they piqued my interest due to my own Scandanavian (Danish) ancestry; quite interesting, and definitely a nice area to visit.
I also like one of the property names on South Road: Dunvirkin ! lol

3TF and only missed TreMichLan by 15 minutes. Lovely hot Wairarapa day and an enjoyable drive out to this one, never been here before and a nice little side trip today to make the visit.
No trades or TB transactions made.
