It was so hot playing our instruments in a small room. Our bandmaster said that we had free time before dinner, so I set off with a few campers. We are spending the long weekend (for us) at Silverstream Retreat at our annual band camp. I have messaged the owner suggesting the cache had been destroyed by a mower. However remnants were there including a log. Thank you The BOrg for an interesting history of this site. I have been at this camp several times now.
Quick find. Log too wet to write on so inserted a waterproof log in a pill container which should stay dry.Nice easy puzzle too which is great.
Fun puzzle, Love historical hospital stories and sites like this. And I definitely saw some buildings from GZ like mentioned. Thanks for placing.
An interesting, diverting puzzle to solve this morning, came looking this afternoon. As I approached GZ, I was aware of a very excited dog nearby. Took extra care that the owners attention was in the other direction before I started searching. Fortunately a quick find. All good, tftc!
I actually first came looking for this one just over a week ago. No problem finding the cache but when I spotted the date of the last entry I thought I'd put it back and come and properly find it sometime around now, which is what I ended up doing in my lunchbreak today seeing as it had actually stopped raining lol!
I solved this puzzle ages ago but it's taken me this log to get around to going to look for it.
The log is mildly damp, but nothing serious. Thanks for the bit of local history and bringing me here today for this lonely cache.

Had two searches for this one. First on the way up when I was put off by a nearby muggle and then on the way back when I disturbed a bird using the hint object as a satisfactory nesting spot. She flew off as I searched, leaving three blue-green eggs in the nest. I should add it was not a nightingale but a blackbird! Not wanting to cause her more distress, I abandoned the search and will have to return.
Today is a Small dot-day. It is also a Puzzle dot-day. Well, that is a thing! So a small puzzle it is. So after work I got on the bike and cycled the 10km from Petone to here. I remember saying I was a little concerned about living too close to work, that I might have to take the long way home, and I must admit, dooing these puzzle dot days is definitly working magic for me.
So I get to GZ and make short work of the find - I had looked at the previos logs and one mentioned it was one of his least favourite hide styles, so I knew exactly where it was - it's my third least favourite - cutty grass/toitoi being first and mechanism hunts very close behind. But this one was nice and quick, and I left a path tag for the next person. And now another 10km cycle home! And probably back here tomorrow! Woohoo!
Interesting puzzle. I always like a bit of forgotten history. Many thanks for hte cache!

Nice find- clue led me straight there. Was just at this ‘hospital’ for a seminar- it’s looking fabulous! Beautiful setting, buildings upgraded, and nicely landscaped.
#1585. Knocking off a few Hutt caches while in the area. Solved this one last night. Interesting history. Today, time to collect! It’s a cold, wet day but the rained stopped when I did. Did more CITO. Hint not clear to me, but cache found pretty quickly. Busy road but parking was good.

I solved this puzzle back in July 2020 and had it on my To Do list ever since, but never quite found a suitable time to look for it. Today I wanted to find a cache to fill a dot day and also one that would give me another 'Solar System Wonder' towards the souvenirs that are on offer. I had a car load of rubbish to take to the tip too, so this cache fitted the bill perfectly, being nice and close to the landfill access road.
As luck would have it, the day was wet and miserable, which is not ideal weather for a walk. It also isn't good weather to be searching for a cache in/on/under/around the designated hint object, which is one of my un-favourite cache hiding spots. Still, nothing ventured, nothing gained. I parked a couple of hundred metres away and had a little walk to get to GZ. Another car pulled in behind me as I parked and a man got out with his dog, but luckily he was walking the dog in the other direction and I didn't have any muggle issues to worry about. Given the weather I was surprised anyone was out walking apart from mad Geocachers.
As anticipated, the place where the cache was hidden was obvious (given the hint, though that wouldn't be obvious to the botanically challenged), but actually putting my hand on the cache took several minutes of paintstaking searching. Well, it could have been worse: it might have been in a thicket of blackberry. Then I had the cache in hand. Nice camo and a nice surprise that after all this time the contents and log were completely dry too. I soon had it signed and tucked away back in its fairly dry hiding spot and headed back to the car.
Many thanks Dr B0rg for another very informative Upper Hutt cache. I've learnt a lot of local history from your caches over the years.

I can't remember exactly when I solved this puzzle, I think it was quite a while ago now but do remember enjoying solving it as it was quite different to any of the other puzzles that I'd solved before. I liked the way the puzzle tied in with the description of the cache. A quick find today using the hint with nobody around at GZ. Funny that the cache had a visitor just yesterday. Thanks for the puzzle and TFTC

Staying at silversteam so during a very boring session I got the required information sorted and when all was quiet at night I had a wander out, after a brief search it was in my hand. The hint didn't make sense but glad to have it. Cheers
TFTC. Spent a Saturday night solving puzzles with skaga, and this is our first collect Sunday morning.
We solved the puzzle on a rainy day in Europe and today we had the chance to find the cache on a sunny day...( they have about 1 m snow at home just now. thank you.
After the Mega Registration we teamed up with bkj97 and Little Blue Hen to tackle our list of solved puzzles and the trads along the way. We are also attempting to find 11 cache types today. Silverstream Nightingale has been on our solved puzzle list for over 2 years now, so we are pleased to finally have the opportunity to turn it into a smiley. We understood the hint, so made a quick find here. Thanks for the Puzzle cache.
We had been looking forward to this weekend for the past year, we first heard about it at the Geofest in Oamaru. We registered our will attend as soon as we could and then watched and watched as the numbers grew until it was at Mega status.
This morning we had already attended an event and found the oldest cache in New Zealand which was very awesome. We found a few other traditional caches around the area but we could not find too many as I had to get myself up a hill to get to another nearby event.
Once we had attended the event and found and signed the 1000 day challenge cache we headed back down the hill.
We then started driving around looking for a few caches to find as we filled the day in while we waited to go to the next event.
We noticed these few caches along this track so we decided to have a look for them.
They were all nice easy finds, that we were able to find in between the muggle bikers and dog walkers.
Thank you for placing this cache and of course thank you for the smilie
A good bit of history to base a puzzle on. When I saw hint I thought this find wasn't going to just be a walk in the park. Luckily hint item was only small. Tftc
Nice bit of history with this one. Well constructed puzzle.
Another Mega and the inevitable list of cache finds to log. Not really a chore, just time consuming for this old geriatric. My apologies for the repetitive logs but I will attempt to add a few additional comments as I go. Had a great two days. Catching up with other cachers is always great. Day one was mainly a solved puzzle collection with little blue hen and Kiwicouple. We also squeezed in a few adjacent traditionals and a couple of multis while participating in the CITO event in Trentham Memorial Park. Quiz night was a fun event after a very tasty roast dinner and we were happy to finish only 4 points behind the eventual winners. Day two little blue hen and I gathered a few more traditionals that we hadn't done close to the Mega centre. A few coffees, a favourite point or two, some frustrating searching at one or two and then off home for a rest. Thanks to all the COs for making it another fun weekend. Now to prepare for the Melbourne Mega in November. TFTCSL Favourite added

#6122. The day of the Wellington Mega Event. After the nearby CITO event, I had an hour to find a puzzle cache final then drive up to Kaitoke where I was hosting an event. So decided to try for this one that I had solved ages ago but then clearly forgot to put in the correct coordinates. As when I checked last night they were the same as the listed coordinates. Dumb, plain dumb. Solved again and this time loaded the corrected coordinates correctly. Parking was a mission. Had to drive on some distance to turn around and come back up near GZ. Wandered along the path to the GZ. The hint made sense as I arrived. But despite the limited area to look for the cache it still took me several minutes to spy the container. If only I had a set of young sharp eyes. Wasn't the first here this weekend I see from the logbook. Signed the log and replaced the cache as found. Thanks for the puzzle and the history lesson Dr B0rg.
Day two. Part one. I decided to take two extra days off work for WENZ weekend. Bbear arrived last night and we are staying in Upper Hutt. Today's plan is to stay in the Hutt and Petone area most of the day until after the fish n chip event. Thanks for hiding and maintaining your geocache.
Sadly there is no large event in New Zealand in 2019 but there are a few Mega events planned in Australia. I plan on going to the OzGeomuster in July. To find out more visit this site: https://www.ozgeomuster.com.au

We're staying at the Silverstream Retreat for my sister's wedding today. When I noticed this puzzle directly over the venue, I had to solve and find it. Solved last night, and visited the GZ this morning (in the rain) for a quick find. Thanks!
Decided to go for a walk along the stream this cool afternoon. It's about time I knock out some of these puzzles I solved a few weeks back! Thanks for the history lesson
I think I solved this puzzle because I did a search on low-difficulty puzzles that I hadn't solved yet. Indeed there were no problems arriving at the solution. I drive past GZ on a regular basis but left this cache until I had reason to be on foot or bike. As there was now a small cluster along here I hadn't found I did a sweep along here today. I thought I was experiencing a deja vu while searching for this cache because I know I can't have actually searched here before - but I realized it was because there is another cache along here somewhere with an extremely similar enviroment. But this cache was hidden differently and it took me a surpsingly long time to find.
As I departing I realized I didn't have my sunglasses with me (I have to figure out how to stop doing that) so I returned to GZ for another search. They were not where I was expecting and also took a while to find - and they weren't even hidden! Must be time to stop for the day.

Lucky last cache and Maccas is calling my name now, as well as stomach rumbling. Parked close by and headed over to G Z. No clue with the hint but circled G Z and got lucky spotted in lying low down so moved into the 'heart' to protect a little better before it slides out and down into that long stuff. All good with puzzle and find, T F T P and C Dr B0rg
After a long day in class for the course I am currently on it was heartening to see that the South Island sun has followed me across the Strait (at last) and was beaming it's big yellow warmth across the damp and sodden Wellington area.Heading out ina vehicle lent to me by a very kind friend I had a mixed bag of target caches including the two nearby Earthcaches, a couple of solved puzzles as well as anything that I would be 'passing'. Quite an eclectic bag of finds, a down and dirty dozen and a maccas for dinner.

I was staying at the nearby Silverstream Retreat for a Youth and Children's ministries conference over the weekend. Sherlock the Puppy asks if I want to go find a cache or two over the weekend- he had a daily streak to maintain, after all!
While perusing the Geocaching Map, I noticed that the question mark for this cache was hovering right above where we were staying, and so set about solving the puzzle, which fortunately didn't take too long. On Sunday morning, we headed out after breakfast to go pick up the final.
Once at GZ, the work began. I think we actually overlooked it TWICE and moved on to look elsewhere, before returning to our original spot and looking harder- it was very well concealed, but we got there in the end!
Cache in good condition. Logging duties quickly done, and back we hurried to the retreat, hoping that no-one noticed that we snuck in a few minutes late to the first workshop!!!

I had travelled down from Auckland to the nearby Silverstream Retreat Centre to help coordinate a conference... and of course in the down time I needed to make sure that I kept up my current daily caching streak. When it came to this one, I had raised the idea of solving the puzzle and finding it with Mrs NewlynFam. However... before I even had a chance to look at it she had solved the puzzle and figured out the co-ordinates! Man... that was easy! And so the only thing left to do was team up and find the cache which as it turned out wasn't too far from the camp. So Mr and Mrs NewlynFam and myself took on the challenge! On the way to GZ, after navigating the fence line... we noticed again that the river was probably the highest that I had ever seen it... However, once we arrived at GZ, the find proved a bit trickier that I had hoped... and after a period of time in which we looked high and low, Mrs NewlynFam soon said those magic words... "found it!" So we both signed the log, and then put the cache back where she had found it. So thank you TheB0rg for taking the time to set up this cache. I really appreciated your efforts. Nice job.
In the vicinity today and having solved this quite a while ago was able to sneak in and make the quick grab. Thanks for the piece of history, the puzzle and the cache.
I'd walked along this part of the Hutt River just a couple of weeks ago but missed this because I'd not then got round to solving it. Tidying up a few loose ends today, I stopped and grabbed this. A nice easy find after a short walk from the nearest parking spot. TFTC
What an interesting history! Thanks for placing a cache on this pleasant walk along the river and for the history.
Great puzzle cache. Out and about and got showered on. Hubby sent down to retrieve cache while i looked after little one. TFTC

#2315 It was such a nice day today that I decided to get out on my bike and explore some more of the Hutt. Solved this last night and grabbed it today while out and about. Quick find between groups of walkers. TFTC!
This one has been a nemesis of mine for a while. The solving of the puzzle was no trouble and I had the original intention of saving it for a puzzle streak challenge, but on that attempt (which was at night), I could not find the cache. Neither could I find it one the one or two other occasions I visited the GZ. Today I was determined, and it was after a lot of vigorous searching I was able to get my hands on the container, at last! this is the first puzzle I ever solved but it has taken ages to cone and retrieve it. but today was the day. tftc and the history never knew so much about a place we just called the "nut house".
solved this a while ago. had a look a while ago but wasnt sure what the hint object was. Back an lunch time today but a workman with a digger over near river meant I couldnt search properly. Solved a wee while ago and decided on this one to hopefully start a run of ten days with metal-art. A bit of a seedy start, I arrived at rendezvous spot a few minutes earlier than metal-art. A guy was loitering next to his car by the nearby loo and he then proceeded to enter and exit several times, obviously up to no good. I trained my car lights on him and luckily he eventually left, was relieved when metal-art pulled up alongside. We realised a relocation would get us closer to GZ so we moved further along the road. A short stroll and quick retrieve despite the dreaded phormium. A passing dog walker no doubt thought we were a bit dodgy ourselves with our furtive lurking in bushes in the dark but never mind, such is the nature of caching. Thanks for the cache and the wee night time adventure.
847 A start to our ten day in a row mystery cache challenge. Intetesting site above, had visited the hospital as a boy and then again recently for a course at the conference centre. TFTC
Wow, a really interesting cache. I would never have known about the hospital had it not been for this cache. Solved a while ago, but had not been in the area until today. A nice easy find. TFTC!

Worked out months ago, thought we had better get it this weekend. Took quite a search to find cache and we were starting to wonder if it was still there as it hadn't been found for a while when I finally found it. While signing the log I spotted a strange looking bug on the cache lid, I took a photo to follow it up and it turned out to be a False Scorpion (Pseudoscorpions), never seen one of these before but it seems they aren't that unusual. Thanks for the cache.

Interesting history of the Old Silverstream Hospital which was built and used by the Americans during WW2.
As a boy I can remember seeing American servicemen standing at the railway station that was where the present day steam museum now resides. The main railway line in the 40s passed along the bottom of the hill through where the steam museum is now, then alongside the road that leads to the hospital then accross a tressle bridge to the Western side of the valley and followed the old Western Hut road to meet up with the Melling Station.
If you look carefully at the construction photograph relating to the history of the building of the hospital you can see the old tressle rail bridge crossing the river at the end of a row of huts under construction and the trees on the left. [top left hand corner of the photograph]

Down from Auckland for the day with 10centcoin, on a mission to find some caches around the Wellington region.
Enjoyed this puzzle and intended to make the find today while in the area. We sneakily stopped across the road from this and made the dash across to GZ. Had a quick look, couldn't see anything so referred to the hint - no clue whatsoever what the hint was on about so after a bit more of a search, gave up disappointed.

It took a lot of searching to find the goods here. We arrived and looked in the right spot but weren;t sure about the clue. After a little while still with no luck we googled the hint and it confirmed where we were hunting.
One last go and I managed to lay a hand on it.

The background to my considerable interest in doing this cache can be found in my earlier DNF log (which can be put down to inexperience and an inferior GPS at the time!) so I won't repeat it.
There was a mountain bike event today which had caused me some problems further south, and included the Hospital/Reynolds Bach Area and the Hutt River Trail but fortunately the cache was accessible without any conflict with the race.
Found after a short search, several trackables visited. TFTC.

Found on an afternoon foray to the Silverstream area. A bit soggy near GZ, and as StreetWalker was wearing gummies and I wasn't, he was "it" for retrieval duties.
Thanks for the information and the cache.
Thanks for the information and the cache.
#2215. Troodles had solved the puzzle some time ago. Easy find today (the recently finished rain helped keep the muuggle factor low).
Great cache. Made even more enjoyable as we were staying at the Silverstream Retreat (on the site of the old hospital) at the time. TTFC.
Thanks for the puzzle and info on the old Hospital. Cache in place and all good. TFTC.
Always enjoy the puzzle caches that I can actually solve and find. A double whammy really.
Cache found all in order, signed the log, rehidden safely, as found.
TFTC found with team cacher Sweet P too
The Turtle strikes again!
